Mail e-mail account problem

I have a very annoying problem. (I specify that my preference setting (under "Composing") is "Send new messages from Account of selected mailbox")
For all the emails that are local ("ON MY MAC") classified in folders when I hit "Reply", the new e-mail is sent from my .mac account and not the e-mail account of the currently selected message.
Also, if I'm in any local folder and I compose a new e-mail, it is composed by my .mac account.
Very annoying. In previous OS versions this worked perfectly.
I noticed that if I right-click on a local 'On My Mac' folder and do a "Get Account Info", the displayed Account is always iCloud. Could this be the reason? Is there an e-mail Account linked to a local folder? (Can't see the reason why because it's local). If this is the case how can I change the Account linked to a folder?
Any idea that could help me?
Thanks
Laurent

If you sign into your Gmail account on your PC, on your mail page click on the Settings link on the right of the page; this will take you to the Settings page where you can click on the POP and Forwarding link---on the next page you can choose to enable IMAP and/or POP forwarding and save these settings. If you don't enable these features in your account, you will not be able to use the Gmail client on your phone.Hotmail and Gmail may well be available in India, but whether they are accessible via mobile email servers is another matter. You can of course access them by using your phone's browser. As for SE's settings download service, it's no longer operational, as has been recently stated on this forum.

Google them to confirm the settings that you need for the outgoing server, then check the setting you entered on the pad.  Pay real close attention to the outgoing server name, and port.  You may need to change in on the pad.

I have Mail with 5 accounts. The problem is that one of them is constantly active, that is, with the moving wheel showing a search for new mails, while the others accounts are not active.

    hello
Would not take the moving wheel as indication that account is active. There could be other reasons for it. From the menu Window, choose 'connection doctor' that will show you how each account has connected. Next, from the Window menu choose 'activity veiwer' that will show you exactly what activity is causing the moving wheel.

lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that

  • Cannot send attachments in Mail using .mac account, pop account is fine!

Within my Mail.app, I have 2 accounts: one is a .mac account, the other a pop account.
When I send attachments (jpg always and sometimes pdf) with the .mac account, they do not get encoded properly and my recipients cannot view them -- or they can view, say, 10% of the photo.
When I send the same attachments with the pop account, and within the same Mail.app, I do NOT have this problem.
Furthermore, if I send the attachment from my .mac webmail, I do NOT have the problem.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
I have tried Repairing Permissions, deleting the outbox.mbx (and emptying the trash).
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is driving me crazy.

    Hello Neil.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
    None that I'm aware of.
The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for message/attachment encoding (which is the internet standard) for all email accounts.
Is your POP account and the SMTP server used for the account provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
If so, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server (the same SMTP server used to send mail via your ISP's POP account) to send mail via your .Mac account as a test.

  • I can't SEND e-mail from an account on my iPad 4, that CAN receive -mail

    Hi Again,
I am hoping someone on this forum will possibly have an answer to a very confusing problem.
I can't seem to get one of my e-mail accounts to be set up 'properly' on my iPad 4. The account in question is an account from BT, which has @btinternet.com at the end of it. I have 'installed' and deleted this account more than ten times. When setting up this account (as with all other accounts that DO work properly), the only info I am 'asked' to input is my name, e-mail address and password, in the 'text entry spaces' that relate to the INCOMING mail server. When this is done I USUALLY see the word 'verifying........' Then the 'blue tick marks' confirming that the info I have entered is correct. The validity of this info is also confirmed by the fact that this account can RECEIVE the e-mails sent to it.
Each of the last four or five times I have deleted this e-mail account and re-installed it I have NOT seen the word 'verifying.....' And I have NOT seen the aforementioned blue ticks. Selecting 'done' after re-entering my info just makes this settings box disappear, rather than show the verifying and the blue ticks, which then allows me to see that the account is 'properly' set up - or should be anyway.
Even so I still get all the e-mails again, but still cannot SEND, OR REPLY
The error message I get every single time I try to SEND, OR REPLY using this same e-mail account is:
    'Cannot Send Mail'
'The username or password for SMTP: ***********@mail.btinternet.com is incorrect'
My username and password are NOT incorrect. The set up process does not even ask for a username or password for 'SMTP'!
Even if I go further into the settings for this account, I can find two spaces where I COULD put a username and password, for SMTP, but these spaces already have the words 'optional' in them so they are not supposed to be 'required'. Even if I DO put in these spaces my surname and password for this e-mail account it does not make any difference.
I have tried 'switching on' the 'other mail servers' which are shown below the 'Primary mail server' in another settings box, for the btinternet.com e-mail account settings, but this still does not stop the error message, AND the e-mail in question is then actually sent from one of the e-mail accounts connected with the 'other mail servers' - I know this because it appears in the 'sent' items folder of whichever account my iPad has decided to use at the time (not always the same one either). It also appears in the sent items folder of the account that I TRIED to use, despite the fact it was NOT sent from this account, and the error message said I cannot send mail (from this account).
I have contacted Apple Tech Support and they have told me that the problem is NOT with the iPad, it is with the 'account provider'. This is because they say that the info held and used by BT - the info that is used as the 'correct info', that is compared to what I have put in the set up boxes on my iPad - IS actually the info that is incorrect despite the fact that the info I use on my iPad and the info I use on the BT website (which was originally determined by ME when I first got my account) and is held by BT, is the info that is causing the problem of the error message. To put it another way, the info referred to in the error message is NOT incorrect, the error message is incorrectly generated.
Typically, BT have tried to deny the problem is caused by them because 'the info referred to' - which is my e-mail address and password - works correctly an ALL places that is supposed to work (on the BT website) AND works with the BT/iPad applications like BT Wi-Fi, BT Smart talk, etc. :( :( :(
Any help or advice that anyone could give will be very greatly appreciated
    Many thanks
    Bob

    Update to above question:
    Hello All,
To anyone with the same problem described above, on THEIR iPad (if it is running iOS 7.0.2):
Go to Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; DELETE your *******@btinternet.com e-mail account, that you originally set up either using 'Other', or the 'BT' option which I am sure was in the list previous to the iOS 7 update.
Then ADD a NEW account choosing YAHOO from the list of options. DO NOT USE 'OTHER'.
Enter the correct details just as you (almost certainly) had already done in your previous attempts using 'other'.
When you see the 'verifying......' and 'the blue ticks' you should be able to exit settings and open your mail app and then receive all your 'old' e-mails again, AND be able to SEND as well.
All my 'old' e-mails, were NOT found in the 'old e-mail' folder though. THEY are still in my inbox.
So this fix worked for me.
After I deleted my account from 'OTHER' and put it in Yahoo, I like other people also ended up with more folders.
I hope this works for you on YOUR Apple devices.

  • When I wake my computer up from sleep all the Mail and Calendar accounts are offline?

Now that I have upgraded to Mountain Lion, when I wake my computer from sleep all of my Mail and Calender accounts are offline. This includes Gmail, AOL, and iCloud accounts. The connection doctor in Mail says that Mail can connect to the internet but puts red dots next to all of my accounts stating that connections to both the IMAP and SMTP servers could not be made. This issue has shown up only after upgrading to Mountain Lion, and the only way to resolve it seems to be to manually quit and relaunch Mail and Calender at which point everything goes back to normal until I sleep the computer again. Any ideas?

Further to my previous post... I think I may have stumbled uppon a solution.
Summary: When I fixed a problem with dictation, mail started working again.
Background: I noticed that after upgrading to 10.8.1 the dictation feature no longer worked. When I pressed [fn] twice the dictation bubble would appear, three dots in it would shake and then it beeped. No dictation. I searched for a solution, tried it out and dictation worked again. Then, this morning I opened up my Mac and mail sucessfully downloaded without having to restart mail.app!
Solution: This is a fix for dictation issues so don't blame me if it messes up your perfectly working dictation! However, it appears to have fixed my mail problems:
Locate and delete the file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.assistant.plist (Finder’s Go and press and hold Alt option). Then restart your Mac, turn off Dictation (Apple > System Preferences, click Dictation & Speech, and then click Dictation) and reboot your Mac a second time and try again.
    The original thread is here.
So, a random "solution" with beneficial side effects! Let me know it works for you.

  • Has anyone solved the "all mail marked as junk" problem?

Mail marks almost all incoming mail and all sent mail as junk. I've found some inconclusive posts on this but no solution. Can anyone explain (or, better) fix this problem?

    Hi
have you read this thread? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=292113&tstart=100
esp about disabling junk filter & quitting mail.
You're using junk filter in automatic mode?
anyhow - blank field spam does seem to figure in breaking mail's junk filtering. Are you able to create a rule using the applescript linked to in my previous post?. If so - create one & put it at the top of the rule list to weed out any blank subject mail.
    Still a problem?
quit & restart mail - make sure junk filtering is enabled
    delete/empty the junk folder.
Find the mail in your inbox that's marked as junk & move it to the junk folder ( select them all & drag , or messages-move from the menu )
In the junk box, pick one of the moved messages & click 'not junk' - does it get moved back to the inbox? is it still marked as junk (assuming it did move back...)
If clicking 'not junk' isn't behaving - select all the messages & move/drag them back to the inbox. Are they still marked as junk? (hopefully not)
Repeat above with the 'sent' mailbox.
Disable junk filtering in mail prefs
quit mail & open it again
    re-enable junk filtering
    Any better?.....
If you're still having problems - make a note of all your rules ( you 'might' have to re-enter them)
    Quit mail
find the folder ~/library/Mail & drag a copy of the folder to the desktop (mouse + Alt) . Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist in ~/library/preferences/ & drag a copy of that to the desktop too.
These copies enable you to restore your mail to exactly as it is now - in case anything went wrong in the next stage. NOT that I expect it to, having tried all these things on my own mail installation......
Make sure mail is not running.
go into the original ~/library/Mail/ folder & trash these two files - LSMMap2 and MessageRules.plist
start Mail , go to prefs & make sure that junk filter is enabled for your account(s)
Send a message & see if it's marked as junk.
If you had a lot of rules & don't want to re-enter them manually - you can try quitting mail, replacing the MessageRules.plist file in the real Mail folder with the one from the copy made earlier & re-starting Mail.
If sent/junk is fixed - remember it may break again with a blank field email.
Sorry to write so much - but remember, I don't have the problem- so I can't test to see exactly what might fix it & just tell you the good bits.

  • Duplicate e-mails from different accounts

I have two e-mail accounts that feed into the Mail program. Suddenly last night I had a problem where e-mail from one of the accounts would not have the blue "unread" indicator. I tried various things (mostly retying account info and double-checking settings) but nothing really seemed to work. So I decided I would run a software update before going any further.
Immediately after he software update I see my inbox is filled with duplicate messages--the entire inbox, not just recent messages. An e-mail sent to account #1 is there along with an e-mail listed as being from account #2--even though that e-mail was only sent to account #1.
    Thoughts?
    --Darin

You cannot. Once you delete the account you delete all the files and data associated with it. Under the best of circumstances you may be able to use file recovery software to recover the data if it has not already been overwritten:
    Basics of File Recovery
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down.
When you delete files you erase only the directory entries, not the files themselves. However, the space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Third-party e-mail using bellsouth account on FiOS ISP

My elderly parents were just set up on FiOS as the ISP. They have bellsouth.net as a third-party e-mail through my account. Even when I change the outgoing SMTP to outgoing.verizon.net and try port. 25, 465 or 587, outgoing e-mail through Outlook Express still doesn't work.

If you are using outgoing.verizon.net, then you need to set it to "My server requires authentication" and enter your verizon.net username and password. Port should be either 25 or 587.
If you are using a 3rd party outgoing server on a Verizon connection, then it would be set up as normal but on a port other than 25. Any other port the 3rd party allows should work, but 25 will not.

  • Two mail clients: One account

    I have a problem:
I have a private mail account (i mean, not gmail, or hotmail or anything)... and i access it from two clients in two different machines (i don't want to use the webmail interface)
The problem is that, obviously, if i download a mail in one client, it won't be downloaded from the other one... unless i enable the option to keep a copy on the mail server.
Big problem is the quota: I receive lots of attached files by mail, and if i don't access it for, lets say, a week, the quota will reach its top and i would stop receiving mails.
I thought about a solution that i want to ask you guys if is possible to do:
Install a mail server on my company that retrieves the mails from the external mail box and stores them.. so, when i connect from the two clients, i do it against this local mail server.... and never delete the mails from it...
I don't really know where to start from or even if this is possible..... any suggestions?
    Thank you!!

Retrieve your mails using getmail or something and run an IMAP server using dovecot. For multi-access you eventually want imap anyway. offlineimap is a good option for doing IMAP with a full local copy (you could exclude an 'archive' folder if storage on your client machines is tight).
You could also set up a gmail account which accesses your private mail account (gmail allows retrieving mail that way), which would do the same thing you're trying to do (in my example, it replaces getmail and dovecot). Then just use the free IMAP option. Of course, then google gets to see your emails...

  • How to recover mail from deleted account?

Had some problems receiving mail from an account and the service provider suggested I recreate it and try again... In doing so I deleted the old account and have lost all of the messages in the old inbox and sent mail box. I cannot find anywhere where these might have been put and expect that they have disappeared but does anyone have any tips for finding and restoring them?
    G5 Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Mail 2.1

It all depends on the type of account and how it was configured. For IMAP-type accounts, mail is stored on the server, and setting up the account again is all that’s needed to regain access to your mail.
If you deleted a POP account, however, then all your mail stored locally in that account’s mailboxes has certainly been wiped out, not just moved somewhere, and you were warned that this would happen by the following alert:
    Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.
If the POP account was configured to leave mail on the server for some time instead of removing it right away when downloaded, incoming mail that’s still on the server can be re-downloaded by setting up the account again, just like for IMAP accounts, but keep in mind that this would only work for received (i.e. not sent) mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don’t have a backup, your only option in the case of Mail 2.x is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • OSX ML & Mail 6.2 - Accounts Go Offline

Since upgrading to 10.8.2 & Mail 6.2, if my Mac Pro or MBP 'sleep', my accounts go off-line & the 'electric bolt' or 'lightning' icon appears beside my Mailbox Icons.
Going to the Mailbox Menu & clicking on 'Take All Accounts Online' has no effect (The 'Take All Accounts Offline' line is grayed out).
But Quitting & Re-opening Mail takes the Account back on-line - until the next time the computer goes to sleep.
No problem with my older MBP running Lion (10.6.8).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Sending e-mail from another account while I want it to send from another

Hello, my problem is kind of delicate. So first, in my Mail application on my iMac I have loaded the 3 of my accounts. And I usually use one for sending e-mails while the other 2 are for work and pleasure. I was in the settings for idk what reason once and since then everything went wrong. When I want to send e-mail(with the account i usually use for sending e-mails) it sends the e-mail with the 3rd account(thats for pleasure, and I've never used it for sending e-mails) I know that there is a bar where you select what e-mail you want to send from, but when i select the right e-mail another bar pops-up next to this one and there are some e-mails with strange names. What I want is to get my Mail app to factory settings, delete all 3 accounts from it, and then make a fresh start, I want to load all the e-mails from the 3 accounts and have it all working perfectly like before. So i need to get to the factory settings. How can I do that? I also tried deleting the e-mails but when I get them back same thing happens again.

    Hi Raptole,
On your mail application open the preferences file and select Accounts. Delete the existing mail accounts and you have a fresh start to create the accounts. When you have set up your account select the Composing tab in the preferences and there you can select the account with which to send new messages default.
Don't do anything untill you have a current backup though.
