Mail has no content

From this morning my exchange mail account has no content in any of my mail. It is the same on my iMac. Both my iPad and iphone is still seeing the content so I assume it is OS Lion that has the problem.
Any experience or help would be appreciated. It was fine yesterday.

Try resetting the device ...
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, try here >  Apple - Support - iPad - Mail Assistant

Often I get E-Mails listet without content and no sender "This E-Mail hasn't got any content" I can't get rid of the ghost, only by  total restarts. . Why does this happen and how can Iavoid this?  Klaus

Move them out of the trash and back into the Inbox.
Open the Trash, tap Edit, tap the email to select it, then tap Move.

  • Viewing Sent mail has no content, attachments missing in Lion

Lion and Mail 5.0 . Some Windows computers are unable to view email body content. Also attachements don't appear eventhough they have uploaded and show the correct file size in the my sent mail folder.
Sometimes an attachment shows up as a thumbnail only with no attachement file.  PostBox works fine with these problem Windows computers.. body of text displays properly and attachments show up properly.

Have you set Edit/Attachments/Window friendly in Mail?  There have been some reports that it doesn't work, but it is working for me.

  • Mail has collapsed: No Content - Emergency

I am reposting this question, becuse I mistakenly marked it as solved. It is far from solved. Mail keeps losing its content. I have reindexed mailboxes, and the content comes back, but the slightest action in Mail, like trashing one email, and it all vanishes again. I was going to try to rebuild the mailboxes immediately after reindexing them, but the last time Mail came up after reindexing, the first click produced the Spinning Beachball of Death. It lasted a couple of minutes. Then I was able to rebuild all mailboxes. It looked like everything was fixed, but then I quit Mail & restared it. Everything gone again!
This is ridiculous. Mail has collapsed. Reindexing and rebuilding do not stick. The problem repeats itself. I clean installed my Mountain Lion system to avoid stuff like this. What is going on?

Booted from another drive & ran Disk Warrior. Directory was 41% out of order. I have never seen a directory this scrambled. Repaired directory. Rebooted into my main system, and reindexed mail. Mail started up to a blank state, and Activity Monitor shows system processes mds, mdworker, etc, working overtime.
Mail has no content and its Trash box is missing.  I am going to restore the entire user Library-->Mail folder from Time Machine to see if it helps. No other problems on the computer. This seems to be just about Mail.

I have two computers one IMac 10.5.8 one MacBookPro 10.6.8.  Updated the MacBookPro 10.6.8 and now my mail has disappeared on that computer - do I sync account to get all my mail content back onto the MacBookPro?

You can do it. This article from Macworld will be helpful to you:

    I recommend the "brute-force" method.
Just make sure you have your data backed up properly!

  • Mail "this message has no content" for random Exchange messages

Are other people still having this issue with Mavericks Mail?  I saw many old threads for previous OS X versions.
I have a new MBP (supplied with Mavericks installed - now 10.9.2 Build 13C64) which connects to a local MS Exchange (Small Business Server 2010).  Mail is configured to collection mail from it and some other email accounts (eg .mac and Google).  Mostly this works fine but randomly I get some emails from the Exchange account which show "Loading ..." in the preview pane and then "This message has no content".  These messages show up on my iPhone with full content.
The suggested workaround, from some older thread, was to delete the message and then drag it out of the Trash.  This appears to work every time.
Is this a timing issue? Does Mail give up waiting for the Exchange server?
Are others still having this issue?

    Back up all data.
Select the message and delete it from the mailbox. It will be moved to the Trash mailbox. Immediately press the key combination command-Z to undelete.

  • HT1414 Why do I get 'This message has no content' with some e-mails on my iPad when the same messages can be received on my MacBook Pro without any problem, and how can I fix it?

Why do I get - 'This message has no content' - with some e-mails on my iPad when the same messages can be received on my Mac Book Pro without any problem and how can I fix it?

Is this a POP (POP3) email account?  If so, you MacBook Pro may be retrieving the email and deleting it off the server before your phone can.  Another possibility is that both your Mac and your phone are trying to retrieving it at the same time, and the POP server, which will only allow a single email client connection at a time, is locking out your phone resulting in the "has not been downloaded from the server" error.

  • I get junk mail on my iPad that states "this message has no content".  If I click on it my mail freezes up and after some time my mail program works again.  I use a .mac address.  Anyone have similar issues?

I get junk mail on my iPad that states "this message has no content". If I try to delete it or click on it my .mac mail freezes up and it takes some time for my mail program to continue.  Has anyone else had this issue?  Ideas for resolution?

Yeah, I've seen it from iOS 7 to the present. It appears to be a network issue, as the Mail app is trying to grab the information to display the first few lines in the abbreviated display. I haven't had mine freeze though. When I click on it, it will simply show a blank message. Now I can quit the app and later reload the app, and "sometimes" the contents come back right away. In other instances, not right away, but eventually.
You might try quitting all the apps, then going to the Settings app to Reset and reset your Network Settings. The iPad will reboot. Try it again after that.

  • IPhone 3G mail with IMAP gmail getting "message has no content"

I have been using a POP3 mail account with no trouble. I switched to gMail, and started getting occasional problems where mail forwarded from my work e-mail would show up as "message has no content" on the iPhone, yet in the gMail web interface, there is indeed content. I have seen that a lot of other people are having this problem also, and it seems to have started with the upgrade to software version 2.1. Does anyone know if Apple is working on this problem? I really need to get this to work, because I am the sole iPhone user here amidst a sea of Blackberry users, and I cannot afford to look like I am the only one having a problem.

have the exact same problem and would appreciate some suggestions and solutions as well.

Running Y0semite 10.10.1 on an external Lacie rugged drive 27" iMac 3.2 gHz core i5,

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

  • Problems with Mail. No content shown.

I have a problem with Mail on my iMac OSX 10.9.5. Mail downloads the message ok but message has no content. I click on the message but no content is shown. This happens in all the boxes and includes emails that have previously opened. When I reply to one of these messages the content is shown in the reply window. So everything works fine except when highlighting each email it tells me NO Message Selected. I hope I have explained that well enough. I hope there is someone that can help.
I have been trying to solve it for about 5 hours. Help please!

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Io7 "This message has no content" and incredibly slow search...

So, ever since upgrading to io7, I've had a few problems with Mail on my iPhone.  I'm using a standard IMAP configuration.
I suspect the principal problems here are that the mac is connecte 100% of the time to the email server and no longer has a batch of emails downloaded on the phone.
    1) Searching mail is orders of magnitude slower than it was before. Sometimes it just churns and churns.  It used to be nearly instant unless I specifically chose to "search for more messages on the server"
    2) At least a few times a day messages fail to download... I get "this message has no content".  Usually after a while these eventualy download.
    3) I finally figured out you could add "subject: from: etc..." to the search bar but why be so gimicky?  The original search filters were so much easier to use.  Now I have to find the dang colon key?

A friend of mine had the same problem with his search. When he found out that mine was super fast, he did some testing. He ended up taking out Email search.
Settings---> General---> Spotlight Search---> And remove Mail from the list of checked items.
Try that to see if the search speeds up some, I know you may not like that though.

  • Sent mail has stopped appearing in the Sent box

    Hello,
This problem just started 2 days ago. When I send mail I hear the little "sent" sound, but the email does not appear in my sent box. I am pretty sure that the emails are actually getting sent because I am getting replies to them.
It's just really annoying to not know if something has been sent or not (especially when they are emails to my boss).
I have an IMAP account set up with my school email address, and it has been set up for 2 years, it's working fine (the emails are actually getting sent to the best of my knowledge).

What you say doesn’t make sense. If messages sent from this account have been saved locally on your computer instead of on the server all this time, it has to be because Store sent messages on the server was OFF. Otherwise, messages sent from this account would have been stored on the server (or not at all if Mail couldn’t do that for some reason).
If Store sent messages on the server is ON, then the Sent mailbox that you see in Mail has to be somewhere on the server, but its real name could be something else (e.g. Sent Messages).
Changing the Store sent messages on the server setting causes a different mailbox to become associated with the standard Sent, so it should be no surprise that the contents of Sent in Mail change as a result, but the mailbox that was previously associated with Sent doesn’t just disappear; it should appear somewhere else in the mailbox list with its real name and a generic folder icon.
the "Sent" mailbox appears below the "Inbox"
No, if you’re talking about the standard Sent with the paperplane icon, that’s not what I’m asking. Actually, I didn’t mention “Sent” in that question at all, did I? I asked about mailboxes on the server in general? Or doesn’t this account have any server-stored mailboxes?

  • Slow iMac (s?)-Mail has created a monster?

I've only noticed this over the last 2 days, and only saw this symptom this morning.
I have 2 iMacs that I use regularly, a 2.8 GHz Core2Duo/24"/2 GB RAM (Mid 2007), and a 3.6 GHz i5/27"/ 4 GB RAM (Mid 2010) at home. I usually leave my work iMac on over night, and only turn it off if I am going to be out of the office for more than 1 day. The last 2 mornings, I came into work, started Mail, Groupwise8, and Safari, then noticed the Mac was incredibly slow. Using Activity Monitor, I saw that, despite the fact I only had a few apps open, my free memory was about 9 MB, and my swap file was >7 GB. I restarted the machine, and all seemed fine for the rest of the day. I. This morning when I came in, I started Mail, Groupwise and Safari, and again noticed the machine running very slow. I opened Activity Monitor (after a long wait), and again saw that my swap file was huge, and I hardly had any free memory (again about 8 MB). Additionally, when I checked page ins and page outs, there were about 250,000 page ins, and almost 800,000 page outs. Anyway, I decided to check to see what application was hogging my memory, and found that Mail was using 1.2 GB. I just quit Mail (had to force quit), and the computer was back to normal, and I have almost a Gig of free memory. A similar thing happened with my home iMac yesterday, though it hadn't been left on overnight. Just, after startup, it ran extremely slow, and recovered after a restart.
In the past, on the older iMac, I have had many applications open (Word, Excel, Canvas, etc), and it has run fine, even though the swap file would grow as large as 3 GB. Any suggestions as to why Mail has become a monster, and what I can do about it?
BTW, both machines are completely up to date with regard to system software.
I just restarted Mail, and watched it go from using 89 MB of Real Memory to 1.1 GB, with >3 GB virtual memory. What is going on?
    Thanks in advance.

Update: I just restarted Mail again, and repeatedly got this message in the Console log:
7/14/11 6:54:00 AM /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail[5213] MDS Error: unable to create user DBs in /var/folders/Yj/YjU3ypLXGM0mMO+1Wnda6U+++TI/-Caches-//mds
    Does that help?
