"Mail Merge" example on XE: Result ERROR?

I used Mail Merge example to generate MSWord documents. Now I tray this on Oracle XE and got this:
"FORBIDDEN The requested operation is not allowed"
is it possible to execute procedure through URL with XE?

Security has been tightened in Oracle XE production,you have to "allow" your stored procedure to be executed.
See the documentation here: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/appdev.102/b25309/adm_wrkspc.htm#BEJCGJFJ
Here is a working example using the schema HR:
conn HR/<pwd>@xe
create or replace procedure hello_world as
begin
  htp.p('hello world');
end;
grant execute on hello_world to anonymous
conn SYSTEM/<pwd>@xe
alter session set current_schema=FLOWS_020100;
CREATE OR REPLACE function wwv_flow_epg_include_mod_local(

return boolean
is

    -- Administrator note: the procedure_name input parameter may be in the format:
    --    procedure
    --    schema.procedure
    --    package.procedure
    --    schema.package.procedure
    -- If the expected input parameter is a procedure name only, the IN list code shown below

  • Mail Merge & cell references

    Hi @all,
    I have several tables in numbers (09). On is for users input, the other for calculating values I need in a mail merge.
    In the first table, the user types a date in this format "DD.MM.YYYY hh:mm" (german datetime). In the second table, there is only a mapping A{i}={first table} :: A{i}.
    Now using the second table for mail merge in Pages, the results are strange. The merge-mapping is: "date" = {file}{table}{column name} (made with the inspector). But Pages takes the values for date in this order: first replacement is taken from column 1 line 1, second replacement is taken from column 2 line 2, third is taken from col 3 line 3 and so on... In effect, pages traverses the numbers table diagonally rather than vertically.
    If I replace (in Numbers) the reference by direct values (not A{i}={first table} :: A{i} but A1 = "01.01.2009 09:00", A2 = "02.01.2009 08:30", and so on) everything works fine!
    Is this a known bug in Numbers / Pages?

    If you are interested to see merge at work, I uploaded a disk image with two examples into my idisk:

    Hello
    +Attached is a demo of an oddity in the merge function in iWork '09.+
    +Tested with the revision 2 under 10.4.11 but behave the same in other operating systems.+
    +the pair 4merge behaves flawlessly. In the spreadsheet, the dateTime values are typed in the cells.+
    +the two pairs 4merge2 and 4merge2- fail.+
    +This is due to the fact that the field date contain dateTime objects resulting of formulas.+
    +the pair 4merge3 use also calculated dates but this time, as I concatenate them to a nil string, the cells contain strings, not dateTime objects and this time the merge behaves flawlessly.+
    +It seems that what we get with merge2 and merge2- resemble to what we call a bug. Isn't it ?+

  • Change data source - mail merge

    I have a mail merge document which was migrated to a new server. Now every time when I run the mail merge document it tells me "Error has occurred: The Microsoft Access database could not find the object '   '. Make sure the object exists and
    that you spell its name and the p". In the error it points to the old path on the server. When I click OK the data link properties window pops up. I change the data source to point to the path of the new server and the document opens up. The only problem is
    that this does not save. I have to specify the new path to the server everytime. How do I set this permanently?

    1. Do you have the same problem if you try to connect a completely new Word document to the data source? If so, probably something wrong with the Excel file - if you can reconstruct it, or even create a test file with the same sheet name and column names,
    that may show that the file is/was at fault.
    2. For the default OLE DB connection type, the SQL message is the correct one - the SQL does not reference the workbook path or name - that comes from the file name or connection string which is not displayed in that dialog box.
    3. When you see the SQL warning and click Yes, do you then see a dialog box which provides the workbook path/name. Does that file exist? Is it the one you expect? If yes, again, I would suspect the Excel file. If no, the wrong data source is "sticking".
    That will happen if the previous data source has not been properly disconnected - e.g. If you proceed from the dialog I mention, then choose the option to find the data source in the next or subsequent dialog, it does then appear that you have corrected
    the problem, but in fact Word "reverts" to the previous source the next time you open. Typically clicking Yes in the SQL dialog box should disconnect the old data source, but I would at least "make sure" by e.g. setting the mail merge main
    document type to Normal Word Document in the mailings tab.

  • Why do I receive "4.3.2 connection rate limit exceeded" error message using the mail merge extension and what can be done about it?

    I am using TB 31.3.0 with Mail Merge 3.9.1. I routinely send an email to 435 members of an volunteer emergency responders group that I coordinate. I do so using a .csv list with mail merge. While there were no problems in the past, more recently the mail merge function will hang after sending a varied number of messages successfully and I get the following error message:
    "An error occurred sending mail. The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: 4.3.2 connection rate exceeded.."
    There is an "OK" button in the error message pop up that can be clicked to resume the mail merge process. It would appear that if I click the "OK" button immediately whenever the error message is received I must do so frequently and some members do not receive their email. If I delay clicking the "OK" button, I found that I only needed to click the "OK" button twice to send to all the members.
    An on line search suggests this is the result of some sort of throttling by my ISP, Sonic.net. There is also this comment: "If you are receiving this error, you are likely using mailing list software which cannot decipher the temporary fail codes. If so, you will need to set your software to slow down its delivery rate and/or reduce the number of active connections per remote host."
    I am not super technical. Is it realistic to think that I can tweak mail merge to that I do not have to babysit my email to this group?

    then I suggest you send using a mail provider that is not actively trying to block your outgoing mail. Or use a yahoo / google groups mailing list feature so you only send a single mail.
    Or use a free account from the likes of http://www.ymlp.com/ who limit free account mailing lists to 1000 subscribers. ( Googled them this morning)

  • PDF Maker Mail Merge error

    I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Office 2007 operating on Windows XP SP3.
    I have been using a Mail Merge word doc for sending out mulitple documents as attachments on emails.
    I have tried to use the Merge to Adobe PDF option and the Mail Merge under the Adobe menu and get the same response on both options:
    "Word experienced a serious problem with the 'acrobat pdfmaker office com addin' add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?"
    Any suggestions?

    I'm sure glad someone seems to be having success finding work arounds...
    I'm running Vista SP1, Office 2007 SP1, Acrobat Standard 8.1.5

  • I get an error trying to use Apple Address Book with Word Mail merge - says it cannot open data file?

    I am running MS Word 2011, latest Mac OS, and trying to use the Mail Merge option with the Apple Address Book as the data source.
    However whenever I select the Apple Address Book as the data source, I get the error "Word was unable to open the data source".
    Anybody got any idea why?
    Thanks for your help

    I am guessing you could have solved this little problem already but perhaps someone else may benefit:
    I struggled with the same problem - not being able to use Mac Address Book (i.e. Contacts) with Word 2013 for mac mail-merge (on Mountain Lion and, now, on Mavericks) - with the exact same error message reported by Klausngigtoas above .
    So I read lots of techie stuff on forums which passed a nice few hours but didn't help. Finally, with slumped, defeated expression, I gave up.
    But I just now (such is life) I accidentally stumbled upon the simple solution:
    1. Enter System Preferences and click Security & Privacy.
    2. Select the Privacy tab and then on Contacts on the left hand panel.
    3. In the right hand panel ("Allow the apps below to access your contacts") just tick the Contacts box.
    4. And Voilà! - at least it worked for me - hope it does for you.

  • Error Mail Merge Aborted due to error in creating the Mail Merge DataSource

    Dear All,
    please help me with this problem (Oracle release 12.0.4.)
    1. PROBLEM:
    When attempting to extract data, using Web ADI in HRMS, Word is selected as the viewer, but an Excel spreadsheet is generated rather than a MS Word document containing the data. Also error "Mail Merge Aborted due to error in creating the Mail Merge Data Source." appears on screen.
    We are using MS Office 2003.
    2. PROBLEM:
    Unable to create data source from HR form PAYWSLEE.
    We are using custom integrator. This integrator is attached to form function. Form function is attached to responsibility. We also created the layout.
    The next step would be to create data source from form PAYWSLEE, but we are not able to perform this...
    In release 11i we used this form (PAYWSLEE) to create datasource (for mailmerge), but in R12 this is not working... Something is missing here and I need your help to determine what. I checked the most documents on Oracle Support and didn't find solution for this problem...
    Please advise.
    Kind Regards,
    Andreja

  • Mail merge ('09) is giving spurious results

    I am trying to do what should have been a fairly simple mail merge function, but it is producing weird results.  I am doing date calculations in Numbers, and using that for producing a document with different date elements (all are in the spreadsheet).  The formulas are working correctly, and the cells contain the correct information, but when I do the mail merge, Pages picks up data from different cells.  I can even change the target cells, and it still picks up the same data.
    Here is a portion of the Numbers data.
    The first entry (B2) is entered as a date.  The rest are all calculated using date functions.  The pattern is: Date, Month Name, Day Date.  Then repeat for the next day, etc.
    And, here is what it produced, with the target cell name preceding the merged data.  The text in blue worked correctly.  Once I created a text box, and put merge fields inside it, though, it started falling apart.  As you can see, the data did not match the cell data associated with the column name.  I then tried using the same data outside of the text box, and it was again spurious.  It seems that using a text box messes it up.  What I am using this on is very graphically oriented, and I hate to think of the challenge of not using text boxes and lining up graphic elements with underlying text… ugh….
    After spending a full day on this simple project, I gave up and went to Word.  I exported my Numbers data as an Excel spreadsheet, and it merged beautifully on a test run.  So, I reformatted all my documents (with a lot of images, which is part of why I wanted to use Pages). After spending another day getting it laid out in Word, I did the final merge.  Success!  It looked beautiful.  I cut the documents to the size I needed, only to find out it had resized them!  Back to Pages, which I prefer.  I can't get past the spurious results.  I've tried reloading Pages and the documents, but it doesn't work.  I have a number of templates in Pages that I need to use for this function, and I hate to think of finding a different program and redoing all of them.
    I am using iWork 09.  My Pages is version 4.3, and my OS is 10.7.5.
    Any ideas?

    Oh, one other quirky thing happened.  In the text box I entered "mon1" for the starting date.  When I highlighted it, and added it as a Merge Field, it immediately changed the text to "mo1n".  I tried to correct it, but it changed it every time.  I have had that happen a number of times with other merge fields.  The "n" shows up after the date in the merged document, suggesting that the Merge Field was "mo1".  However, in my list of Merge Fields, it shows as "mon1".

  • Mail Merge error - ?

    I am getting an error when doing a mail merge.
    I have a FM database that has been exported to excel (Why ... FM is owned by Apple for goodness sake).  I have then opened the xls file in Numbers and I am getting the error
    "Please select a Numbers document that has one or more named columns and one or more rows of data."
    Please help.
    Thanks,

    You need to designate a row as a header row in the Numbers table. Imported spreadsheets don't mark the first row as a header row. If the top row does contain the labels, hover the cursor over the row number, click the down-facing arrow that appears & choose conver to header row.
    If you don't have a row with labels to convert, add a header row using the Table menu or click the icon (middle icon) in the format bar then type in the labels.

  • "Word was unable to open the data source" error message in mail merge

    I am trying to do a mail merge in Word 2008 for Mac and receive this message when I try to open the Excel file for the data.  Can someone please help?  I tried changing the filename to .xls (originally .xlsx) but it didn't work.

    As far as I know, you cannot merge from a  .xlsx data source in Mac Word 2008, and even though there is a KnowledgeBase article at  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2604725 that suggests
    that all you have to do is "rename" to a .xls, I think what you actually have to do is open the .xlsx in Excel and use Save As to create a .xls.
    Generally speaking, you will be better off researching Mac Word questions in the relevant forum on Microsoft Answers, in this case here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2008-macword
    This particular issue was discussed in this conversation: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2008-macword/cant-open-excel-file-for-mail-merge/90ccfd11-273f-4c2a-aa37-1d859b8e41e2?page=1
    If that does not help, and you cannot find anything else in the Answers group, I suggest that you post a new question in that group, referencing the above conversation and specifying your version of Mac OSX.

  • Mail merge fields not displaying properly - Dollar signs and percentages

    Hi folks,
    I don't know much about mail merging, so I have a question.  I have most things working on my merge, but need help with a couple of minor items (I hope).  I have an Excel 2010 spreadsheet that we use for merging to a Word 2010 document.
    It has various fields such as name, address, city, etc.  It also has a field for a dollar amount formatted to two decimal places and showing the $ sign in Excel (ex. $67,000.00), but when it gets merged into the Word document, it displays as 67000.
    It doesn't pull the $ nor the decimal point and cents.
    I also have the same thing with a percentage (Ex. 6.00%), displays in the Word document as .006.
    I think I have everything else working, but can't figure out how to format these items in the Word document to display properly.  Any advice?
    Mike

    If you insert the fields
    { MERGEFIELD Total_NB_Premium_away_from_Plan }
    and
    { MERGEFIELD Total_Premium_of_Team_Sales_Target }
    directly in your mail merge main document, outside an IF field, not nested in an { = } field, with no formatting switches, what results do you see?
    Word will only apply a numeric format to things that it decides are numeric (broadly speaking, that includes numeric and currency amounts that it can recognise). It will leave anything else unformatted. So if you have something that looks a bit like a number
    like "$-164,209.00", the chances are that Word will leave it exactly as it is.
    When Word does not recognise something as being a number or a valid numeric expression, it will generally display one error or another when you try to put it in an { = } field. So, e.g.
    { =$-164,209.00 } would give you the syntax error that you are seeing. (Assuming "$" is set up as the currency symbol in your COntrol Panel's regional options. If the regional currency symbol was £, you would see a different syntax error.)
    The problem in this case probably originates in something that has happened in Excel. Normally, things that are numeric/currency in Excel come through as things that Word treats as numeric. But if for example, someone has entered a number formatted as text
    in a column that has texts rather than numbers above it, Word may receive something that it does not think is numeric. You may have to fix your sheet before Word will "see" the numbers correctly.
    When you have got to the point where WOrd sees the numbers correctly, you should be able to use
    { MERGEFIELD
    Total_NB_Premium_away_from_Plan} \#$,0.00 }
    (and the negative numbering formats if you want) without nesting the { MERGEFIELD } inside an { = }

  • Mail Merge from Numbers with long text fields

    I'm having trouble doing a Mail Merge that's reading fields from a Numbers spreadsheet. Everything is working as expected except for my one field that contains several sentences of text for each record. Nothing from that field gets transferred into the merged document and there is no error message (the courtesy of an error message would be much appreciated if I'm hitting some limit of the feature!).
    If I make fairly short text fields, it will merge successfully, but it would be tedious to go through my large text field and break each one into multiple shorter ones, and I haven't been able to figure out the limit on text length if there is one, so there would be a lot of trial and error. It doesn't seem to be by number of words, so perhaps it is by number of characters?
    I have tried cutting and pasting into a new table in Numbers, pasting as values in case there was any weird formatting at issue.
    I can't find anything to help me either fix this or at least know what the limitations are on Mail Merge. The only discussion I found here suggested either splitting the text fields or creating a new document, and those haven't worked for me.
    Thanks for any leads people can give me on this!

    mezzaluna wrote:
    Luckily I'm only merging a few dozen records, so I can go through by hand and pick out the odd spaces. But I'm open to any ideas for saving me that work, too!
    Numbers can do a character count, but unfortunately can't do that 'live' as you are entering characters into the entry box; only when the string has actually been entered into a cell.
    You can, however, make an estimate of the number of characters by entering them into a text frame of fixed width using a mono-spaced font. In the examples below, the font is Andale Mono 10pt, and the text boxes are 4.50 inches wide.
    The top example shows the result when exactly 254 characters from the first paragraph of your previous post are entered in the box. For this example, leaving off the two words that wrapped onto line six and including only the first five lines of text would leave a 'headroom' of nine (or ten, depending on whether the space after "but" was included) characters.
    To use: Enter your text into the text box using Andale Mono 10 pt. Select and Cut the first five lines. Click on the table cell to receive this chunk. Go Edit > Paste and Match Style to use the font set in the table, or simply Paste to use Andale Mono in this cell.
    Repeat until all text has been transferred.
    More below.
    You can also get the actual character count using the LEN() function. In the table on the left, each of the cells B3, B4 and B5 contain the formula
    =LEN(A)-254
    A3, A4 and A5 contain part or all of the text shown in the two text boxes. I've set the alignment of these cells to 'Align right' to show the end of each string.
    The Conditional formatting rules below are applied to cells B4 and B5. They set the background colour of the cell to 'amber' when the cell in column A is within 10 characters of the maximum and to red when the maximum is exceeded. The numbers in the cells show how many more characters may be added (negative numbers) or how many excess characters (positive numbers) are in the cell to the left.
    These check cells may be placed in a separate table, and the formula revised to include the table name of the data table.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Looping in Word mail merges/ checking for missing fields

    I am trying to convert a project that uses WordPerfect merges to use Word mail merges.  One issue that I am encountering is that I cannot find a way to use any looping structures in Word mail merges. Specifically, my data file is a csv text file.
    I control the contents of the file but its current structure is that it will consist of a single record (not counting the header row).  The number of fields will vary but it will contain a field named Person1.  There may or may not be a field named
    Person2, Person3 etc.  There are several of these types of fields in the record so it is not an option to make a separate record for each person ie for the record I will have Plaintiff1, Plaintiff2... and Defendant1, Defendant2....
    I am having trouble with two things:
    1. how can I test for a blank or missing field ie I want to have a statement like {if {MERGEFIELD Defendant2}="" "Defendant is" "Defendants are"}.  That statement works but it throws error messages to the user that the
    field Defendant2 is missing and prompts them to substitute another field.  That sort of statement occurs multiple times during a merge so asking the users to ignore the errors is not an option.
    2. is there some sort of looping mechanism in Word mail merges.  I need to be able to do two things with a loop:
    a.  I need to be able to list each of the Persons, Defendants, Plaintiffs ie. While {MERGEFIELD Defendant{#}<> "" " {MergeFIELD Defendant{#}" (increment variable # by 1).
    b.  I some circumstances I need to create full documents based on a loop i.e.  While {MERGEFIELD Defendant{#}<> "" <<merge a defendant summons here>>(increment variable # by 1)

    For clarification: In a Word mailmerge, if any of the field headers are missing from the data source, you will get an error. Thus, you can't have a mailmerge main document that references «Plaintiff2» or «Defendant2» and not have the corresponding headers
    in the data source. The fields may be empty, but the headers must exist.
    Re 1:
    You can indeed use an IF test along the lines of:
    {IF«Defendant2»= "" "Defendant is" "Defendants are"}
    or:
    {IF{MERGEFIELD Defendant2}= "" "Defendant is" "Defendants are"}
    Re 2a:
    Creating a list is as simple as inserting the mergefields one after the other:
    «Defendant1»
    «Defendant2»
    «Defendant3»
    This will, of course, result in empty lines when fields have no data. To cater for this, Word provides the mergefield \b and \f switches.Given you can have one or more defendants, you could suppress the extra lines via, say, an \b switch:
    1. select the
    «Defendant2» field and press Shift-F9 so that you get {MERGEFIELD Defendant2};
    2. edit the field code so that you get {MERGEFIELD Defendant2 \b "¶
    3. delete the paragraph break or line break after the field, so you get:
    «Defendant1»
    {MERGEFIELD Defendant2 \b "¶
    "}«Defendant3»
    where ¶ is a real paragraph/line break
    4. Do the same for the «Defendant3» field and so on, till all are done.
    The following construction can be used to manage data where one or more related fields («Defendant2», «Defendant3», «Defendant4», «Defendant5», & «Defendant6») may or may not be populated, so you can get commas before all except the last in a multi-defendant
    sequence, which is preceded by 'and'.
    «Defendant1»{IF«Defendant3»= "" " and «Defendant2»" ", «Defendant2»{IF«Defendant4»= "" " and «Defendant3»" ", «Defendant3»{IF«Defendant5»= "" " and «Defendant4»" ", «Defendant4»{IF«Defendant6»= "" " and «Defendant5»" ", «Defendant5» and «Defendant6»"}"}"}"}
    Note: It is assumed that none of the fields after the first empty one will be populated.
    Re 2b:
    It's not clear what you're after here. However, in addition to using an IF field as per 1, above, they can also be used to conditionally output multiple pages, including text, tables and images, together with additional mergefeilds on those pages. For example:
    {IF«Defendant2»= "" "«Defendant2» is a nasty fellow ... plus the rest of defendant 2's content & mergefields"}
    Note: The field brace pairs (i.e. '{ }') for the above examples are created in the document itself, via Ctrl-F9 (Cmd-F9 on a Mac); you can't simply type them or copy & paste them from this message. Nor is it practicable to add them via
    any of the standard Word dialogues. Likewise, you can't type or copy & paste the chevrons (i.e. '« »') - they're part of the actual mergefields, which you can insert from the mailmerge toolbar. The spaces represented in the field construction are all required.
    Instead of the ¶, you should use real line/paragraph breaks.

  • Difficulty cross-referencing PDF created from MS Word Mail Merge

    Hello!
    I'm using MS Word Mail Merge to create PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat 9 (Merge to Adobe PDF ribbon). Adobe allows me to specify the file name to use, which Adobe uses for the first portion of the file name, but the remaining is up to Adobe and varies depending on the total number of documents.
    The help shows as: "The PDF will be named using this text plus a series of numbers. For example, if you type JulyLetter in the Specify PDF File Name box, the mail-merged PDFs might appear as JulyLetter_0000123, JulyLetter_0000124, July Letter_0000125, and so forth."
    If the numbering was sequential, there wouldn't be a problem. However, if the number of records exceeds 50 documents, the convention changes at intervals of 50 and it makes it difficult to cross-reference without opening the document.
    As an example, if there are a total of 67 documents, you get the following results:
    Record 15 is named JulyLetter_15015.pdf. (meaning range 1-50, record 15)
    Record 20 is named JulyLetter_15020.pdf (meaning range 1-50, record 20)
    Record 56 is named JulyLetter_51676.pdf (meaning range 51-67, record 6)
    Record 66 is named JulyLetter_516716.pdf (meaning range 51-67, record 16)
    The breaks are at intervals of 50 records, meaning that if there were 230 records to print, record 143 would be JulyLetter_10115043.pdf, record 180 would be JulyLetter_15120030.pdf.
    Does anyone know where the naming or breaks are controlled within Adobe to just keep it sequential or if there is possibly a cross reference file created that may assist with cataloging?
    Thanks

    In each of the successive versions of Acrobat to the version you have, improvements have been made in converting a PDF to Word format. Acrobat X and the version about to come out, Acrobat XI, do the best job. I can't guarantee that the results would be an improvement in your case, but I have a hunch they would.
