Mail Program is spamming my friends.

I sent a couple of pictures to a friend. Now the program keeps re-sending them, giving me an error message that it was unable to send the email. However, I have conformation from my friend that he's received 7+ of these emails from my phone.
The pictures were taken with then native softwear, using the Email Photo function from the Cameral Roll program. The email address is one I have saved under Contacts.
It seems that it might resend the emails every time I open the Mail function, giving me the message of "1 Unsent Email", or "Sending 1 of 1" at the bottom of the screen.
There are no options, that I can see, to abort this process. I've tried turning off the phone for a few minutes, then turning it back on again. It did nothing to help.
I should say that before I downloaded the new patch, I never had this problem.
Your help is much apprciated.

It seems like that may have helped. I'm gong to send bunch of random pictures out to see if it happens again.
Thanks, Allan.

In my Mail program (4.6), OS10.6.8, can I send bulk email bcc? If so is there a limit to the number of names/addresses that I can send?

To add the BCC field to the message window, create a new message, click the 'three lines' button near the to and from fields & select the 'BCC Address field' or choose the 'customise' option. This button may be a 'gear' on the older OS (I don't recall for 10.6.8 Mail).
The BCC field is more likely to be limited by the email server than Mail app. If you add hundreds of addresses (or use large groups with many addresses) the email server may assume you are sending spam. Sometimes it causes the server to drop the message or bounce them, different providers also have different rules, so you need to use bcc & ccc with care.
If you plan on doing mass mailing you would be better with a service that handles it correctly for you (i.e. sends multiple messages without using ccc or bcc).

  • Specific domain blocked for both mail programs

Hi all. Need some help... One specific domain name's email addresses has been blocked by my mac for outgoing email from both 'mail' and entourage programs. I don't get any error messages but the emails never get delivered. However emails from the domain name get delivered to me just fine.
It is isolated to my mac as I can send/receive using a different computer on the same internet connection to the domain name addresses.
I think it results from a moment last week when I accidentally clicked on 'junk' instead of delete for an email from the domain name thats causing the trouble. I immediately clicked 'this is not junk', and thought nothing more of it. it appears that somehow the computer will now not deliver email to the domain name address in question. Its like a very specific block, but effects both mail programs. Apple Support suggested posting to this disscussion board or an 'archive and install'. Hope someone can help. thanks.

Open one of these messages in the Sent mailbox, and then click on View in the Menubar of the Mail window, place the cursor on Message, and choose Long Headers from the resulting menu. In the Long Headers, is there on named Message ID#? If so, then the message was sent from this Mac, as the ID# must be reported back from the SMTP.
Are you using Rich Text Format, when composing and sending on this Mac? Do these messages have any attachments, or images such as might be in a Signature? If this is the situation, then the RTF may be getting converted to HTML, and a SPAM filter in front of the recipient may be blocking the receipt of messages from this Mac.
Try resending one of these message, after first changing to Plain Text, as a test. Open the message in the Sent mailbox, click on Message in the Menubar, and choose Send Again. Next click on Format in the Menubar, and choose Make Plain Text, and send.
    Keep us posted.

  • Mac mail program hacked?

I'm afraid I'm not posting this in the right place - but any advice would be welcome.
I think my mail program/mac.com email account has been hacked. I am recieving around 10 postmaster notifications every day that emails are returned undeliverable - but they are emails I never sent and are not in my sent itmes (or on iCloud). I have changed my password for my mac account, changed it for my computer, and have run a ClamXav scan and found nothing. Yet the emails continue to go out. All my software is up to date.
Here is an example of the email I'm recieving. Note, the email recieptients are not from my contacts - I don't know who they are.
The initial send date is after I changed passwords and scanned the computer. I deleted my email address from the message (replacing with MYEMAILADDRESS).
What should I do? Please help!
    Thanks.

    <Edited By Host>

I'm surprised that nobody but one of the hosts has taken the time to answer you. Not my area of expertise, but I'll give you some ideas.
I've never run across any case of the Apple Mail application being used in this way without physical access to your computer over by controlling it remotely over a network. All a spammer really needs is your e-mail address (which I suppose is what the host removed for you) and he can send tons of e-mail out that appears to come from you, some of which doesn't go through and is bounced back to you.
The second biggest way this happens, as you have guessed, is to hack your e-mail account by guessing the password and using that to send spam. Depending on what your preferences are set to, you may be able to tell if this was done if the outgoing messages appear in your "Sent" folder. If you find such messages, you can be assured that they were sent using your e-mail account in some manner. If there you do save sent messages and there is no sign of them, then they are just using your e-mail address.

  • How can I get outgoing mail in Mail program to work consistently?

Some times using Mail messages can be sent immediately on any of my several accounts including a gmail account. Other times no mail can be sent perhaps until the next day. It just read sending. If I transfer my outgoing gmail messages to gmail on safari I can send it immediately. I am changing no settings and incoming mail is coming in without difficulty. This is most frustrating if I am trying to response to a message and I can't get it out until the next day. Any suggestions? Thank you

I have had sbcglobal dsl and now Uverse and periodically have had the problem of outgoing mail being rejected by the smtp server. The problem has been changes made at the server by the isp. I make no changes and things go from working to not working. Over the last 6 years I have gotten pretty good and "fixing" the problem by deleting accounts and reentering the data in the Mail program and at the AT&T website. A process they call verification is involved. Now it is broken and it is unfixable.
I have spent the better part of the last 3 days trying to get a third party or vanity email address to verify. The panels say I have successfully verified my address but it will not send. Along the way I have read a lot of stuff on various forums and am thinking that the issue may be the same between at&t and other big providers... they shut down 3rd party address on smtp in their war on spam.
So we called att support and were told we would have to pay for premium support. We asked instead to cancel our service. We signed up with a local dsl service (Houston) and discovered to our dismay that DSL does not equal DSL. The local service has never been able to swap over a Uverse dsl service. So we were back to Uverse to have Uverse dsl canceled and regular at&t dsl installed.... it is like dealing with two different companies. Along the way we discover that at our location we will lose the 6 Mbps service and only be able to get 1.5 Mbps... our modem will have to be changed out and at this point we are sad and weakened. The Uverse rep offers to lower the premium support charge from $30 to $15 so we gave in and signed up for it. The next day I get the very polite and seemingly competent Paulo on the line. We get set up for him to take over the cursor and we start reviewing my settings. Bottomline. I had all my settings perfect... practice, practice etc. They were absolutely correct on every panel. Paulo got to see that the verification does not work and that it is not possible to set up a "reply to" third party address that will work. Paulo was very nice and very baffled. He invited me to call back but he really had no idea about what to do to get things working.
By this time I am feeling pretty defeated and trapped... I cannot reasonably move to another provider and no one at AT&T can make it work. There is a happy ending for me in this though and this could work for someone else which is why I am making this long post. My vanity email is from an email forwarding service where I have had an account for 12 years. My isps change as my job has moved me overseas and back and across the US several times... my email address does not change. The company I use is pobox.com I was looking around at their website and noticed that my service includes use of their smtp server. I printed off the instructions, which they have for about 20 mail clients, pc, mac, et al and within 10 minutes I was sending mail from [email protected]. I got no error messages and when the mail arrived it showed from [email protected] and when we replied to that email it put [email protected] in the to:. Man am I happy! This fix did not cost me incremental $ and it was easy. The service costs $20 per year for a single year subscription... I have a 5 yr which runs me $15 per year. There are other benefits to the service... decent spam filtering and url forwarding.
If you are having a problem with a vanity address not working through your isp smtp server and you can stomach $20 per year, go on over to pobox.com and tell them Pam sent you.
ps the other thing that I got to work was sending mail out from my mobileme account using their smtp server. Mobileme will not allow me to use my vanity address but I am happier having .mac in my return address than att or sbcglobal.

  • How many GB can the Mac Mail program handle?

My mail program has 2.2 GB. My friend told me that the mail program has a limit of 2 GB is this true?

    Hello,
To break-up the size of your mailbox folders, you could divide your messages up into several mailboxes. This way your inbox doesn't over-fill and cause trouble.
Click on the little plus sign down on the bottom left of your Mail program (under the Inbox, deleted, etc.).
    This will create additional mailboxes.
I usually have some that are sorted like this:
    Business Keep
    Personal Keep
Purchased items receipts (like confirmations for online purchases)
    and, so on.
I'll organize messages I want to keep into those folders, and then it keeps my inbox clean.
You can get as specific and organized as you like. The idea is to keep things running smooth, and know where to find stuff.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi,
The easiest way to send e-mail from Forte is using ExternalConnection class
    - no "C" wrappering required. Simply, just use SMTP. It is very easy to
implement and because it could be written in Forte you get all the
    advantages that come with it.
On Forte -users list look for mail that I send a few weeks ago about SMTP
    email client.
If you can not fidnd it let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail program has stopped working

A few weeks ago I discovered I was unable to send pictures through the Mail program. Now I'm also unable to send text emails. The only thing I'm receiving is spam.
I contacted my ISP which is my phone comany and they say it's a Apple program problem.
Any help would sure be apprecaited!!
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Welcome to the discussions, miltwho.
You are not giving potential helpers a lot of detail. What sort of email account - pop or imap? When you try to send email what happens? Is there an error message, and if so, what?

  • Comcast Mail and Mail program

I just changed over to Comcast and updated added my accounts to the mail program. I added 5 accounts from Comcast. All work fine except for one. The settings are all EXACTLY the same for each account. However, I cannot send to (nor receive from...) the one problem account within the mail Apple mail program. I can, however, send and receive from the Comcast web based mail.
    The error I get is:
SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<" Earthlink accounts set up in the mail program. Maybe it's just too many mailboxes (13) altogether?
    I would appreciate any help!!
    Thanks.

In an effort to prevent spam, most internet providers will only allow you to use their outgoing mail server when you use them to connect to the internet. Make sure your SMTP server is either mail.comcast.net or smtp.comcast.net depending on what your local Comcast website says for setting up any e-mail client like Outlook or Eudora in its help. Delete all other outgoing mail server settings in your preferences.
You don't have to change your incoming server settings though.

  • Deleting old email addresses so they no longer pop up in MAIL program

    Hello,
I'm running the Apple Mail program, Version 2.1.3, on an iMac, with operating system version 10.4.11.
When I compose an email using Mail, and a type the first few letters of a person's name, the program automatically completes the email address for me for that person. However, some email addresses for my friends have changed, and I have entered their new addresses into the Address Book program; however, the old email address has not gone away, and continues to pop up in that line, along with the new address, too, as options of addresses to send to.
How do I permanently delete someone's old email address, so that it no longer pops up in the Mail program?
    Thank you,
    George

    gg3, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Open the Address Book. In the Name column, are there two entries for the person's name - one showing the old address & another showing the new address? If so delete the old Name/address.
If there is only one name entry, click once on the Name to highlight, then click on Edit (at bottom of window). Then a window opens for that person. Go to the "home" line & click on the arrows. Are more than one email address listed? If so, delete the old address.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Puzzled by the Mail program...

    Hello everyone,
I just got the new iPod touch and am kind of baffled at how the mail program works. I am hoping someone can enlighten me.
First puzzling thing is, I have the mail preference set to manual but the mail continues to download automatically. Finally to make it stop I turned off my WiFi connection. I manually deleted the mail in the inbox, and now it shows a message to give me the option of loading 25 more messages out of a total of over 2 billion unread messages! What in the world is going on? I know I do not have 2 billion messages on my server.
As far as I can tell, when I select manual it is downloading new mail every time I access the program. Is this correct?
Second thing that would be great is if I could tell the iPod mail program to only download recent messages. I do not want it downloading messages more than one day old. There does not seem to be any preference available for this and it is currently downloading all messages remaining on the server. Not what I need from a mobile device.
I would be interested in hearing what others have done that works conveniently for them when using Mail on the iPod touch or iPhone...
One item of note regarding SPAM, I found that Spam Sieve can manage spam on the iPod touch if I make my mail accounts IMAP and set mail to automatically update on my computer. The e-mail that Spam Sieve moves to the spam folder on my computer gets deleted from the IMAP server because it is moved out of the main account folder. Then when I check mail with the iPod the spam has already been eliminated. iPod e-mail would be unusable for me otherwise since I get hundreds of spams a day.
    Thanks all!

For the recent messages part, the program should automatically receive only the most recent messages, up to the number specified in settings (the options are 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 most recent messages).
If the option to "Show next 25 messages" is there in the mail program, those technically aren't downloaded yet; by clicking the button, then the messages are moved to the phone as well. The 2 Billion messages might just be an error. I've personally never seen it. You could try deleting the account on your phone and re-entering it if you feel like it, that might correct the problem (it could right itself after a while too).

  • HT2500 How do you delete bulk mail folder in Mail program?

In my Mail program on my MacBook Air there is a Bulk Mail Folder usually full of annoying junk mail. How do I eliminate this folder so I don't get Bulk mail anymore?

    Hi Macmonter,
i have seen the complete post here and realised that your answer should have been selected as most useful, unfortunately Charlie7 didn't tried it and hence it was ignored. I still appreciate your experiemnt.
I am pretty new to this community thing, but i did a lot of experiments with Mail application and hence i m writing this post specifically which might be helpful to others. I use Yahoo Mail (only) for all online services like Facebook, G+, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. all possible. It's my central ID now and i cant change it any more. Going online and checking yahoo mail is sometimes very resource taking hence i decided to use mail client like Mail.app. Let me tell you that i personally tried all other mail apps including thunderbird but noticed one very imp thing that when u use Mail.app then your mails 7 their attachments are automatically indexed by Mac OS which is very important feature and when you search something then it searches within your mail also, this is really awesome. This will not happen if u use thunderbird or any other mail client. Also you get to use free Cloud with auto sync. Now this also tells you that I am stuck with 2 (idiotic) giants : Yahoo & Mac OSX Mail.
The thing is, Yahoo now uses IMAP (prior it was POP). IMAP has many advantages over POP for sure. Basically when you use multiple devices, filters and folders and want all those things in Sync. Google for more comparison, but let me tell you IMAP is really good. Now the problem is, Yahoo has powerful spam engine but it calls it 'Bulk Mail'. Apple also has powerful Spam Engine but they call it 'Junk'. So some how you have make apple understand that they are the same words, which is suggested by Mr. Macmonter which is really a great & very useful thing. If you mark 'Bulk Mail' folder as 'Use As Junk' then you are done. All messages from Bulk folder will be routed to Junk and you will see common Junk Folder.
I know there are people who dont want to see that Junk at all! And for that this is smart trick :
Configure your Yahoo as IMAP (which is default). Clear all messages from online Bulk Mail folder using browser login. Then Sync so all your online folders are downloaded if any and all your mails. Basically this is for people who has created online filters and folders (i have 12 folders)
Once your account is in Sync, disconnect. Export all your folders one by one slowly. It takes times if you have many mails and attachments. Once this is done successfully, DELETE this account!
Now create Yahoo POP account. Apple dont allow you to do this now, but there is trick. You will have to give wrong user-pass and shift to manual settings and there you can give correct server config which should be POP settings of Yahoo. And take this account online.
In online Yahoo Mail, set 'Do not download spam' under POP and Forwarders. So this will only start downloading Inbox messages. Remember POP dont see any other folders, hence we removed all filters and downloaded all folders. IT will download all mails coming to Inbox filtering Spam. So you never see spam. If you want to see some then you can go online periodically and check manually.
Now import your recently exported folders in this account and create filters and rules in Mail.app for routing of incoming messages for particular messages.
This gives you all old messages, pure inbox from yahoo, 2 way spam filter yahoo & Mac, and local routing of messages with index, smart folders and cloud! Only thing you dont get here is Sync with multiple devices if you have iMac, Air & iPhone. But there i suggest you to keep one of them as center for downloads and others should keep just 15days old copy. This will also save your resources!
    Enjoy..

  • Hotmail acct hacked and now Mail program won't work

It looks like my hotmail account was hacked and sent numerous spam emails to my address book. I changed my password and they seemed to have stopped, but now I cannot send/receive emails using this acct through mac mail program. I have accessed my hotmail acct thru mail for years now.
The only thing that comes up is the msg: "POP server "pop3.live.com" rejected the password for user ...
    but doesnt take the password.
Now I cant send/rec from my iPhone either -- tells me the user name or password is incorrect.
The questions: would the spam issue block my hotmail acct and freeze the mail program. If so, can it be restore and how? ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANKS

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
And maybe instead if entering pop.live3.com, try using 208.87.32.68

  • Help with GMAIL in Mail Program....

    Hi,
I am using the Apple Mail Program in Leopard and just picked up a Gmail account. I want to set up my Gmail account on 4 different computers work/home/laptop) that I access all the time and am hoping I can set it up so that wherever I check my mail it looks more or less like it does on Gmail.com with respect to the emails:
    1. All mail that I've deleted on another computer is gone from all the other computers when checking mail on those other computers. Is that possible??? Currently, I use a bellsouth.net account and a .mac account, and when I log on to any of the computers via the mail program, it gives me all of my 'new mail', whether or not it was deleted on another computer.
    2. Sent mail. Is there any way to send it on one computer's Mail program and have it show up in my Sent box on the other computers?
    3. Ditto on Trash and other folders
I did try to set it up my Gmail account using IMAP but I thendeleted the account on Mail because it looked 'weird'. I had a Mailbox in my Inbox for the Gmail account and then also another whole separate, duplicate Gmail account (with All Mail, Drafts, Sent Mail, Spam, Starred, and Trash Folders) further down the left side of mail. In testing an email to gmail account from my .mac account, the mail ended up in two places in my Mail and deleting one did not delete the others.
If this cannot work, I can just go to gmail.com. BUT, I so love MAIL that I am hoping there is a fix to all this.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

My recollection is that unless you are a paid Hotmail account member, you cannot use Mail. Do a search within the discussion group, as I am not an expert, but I recall not getting Hotmail for that very reason.
    Perhaps give gmail a try.....
That said....I still need some help with my posting! So please and thank you.
