Mail question - Mark as read

Does anyone know if there's a way to just mark an email in the list as read - without opening it? Just curious, I haven't found a way yet.

I didn't think so, I had seen it in the documentation, then again, there are features coming with the rev updates which are harder to find documentation on.
Thanks, I appreciate it.

  • My Mail is marked as read

All of my mail (in Mail) is marked as read within a very short time of receiving it. This is obviously very frustrating. I have Mail on my iPhone, iPad, Mac desktop and laptop. My account is synced with Google (Gmail). I have looked through all the settings in Mail and Google and don't see how I can adjust this. The most recent things I have done that might have affected this is to cancel a Plaxo account and added an iPad to my collection. What can I do?

This is happening to me too on one e-mail account setup in mail (of seven). It's a OSX (mail) Server that is running the mail server in question. The Google apps e-mail accounts don't have this issue.
Edit: Just realized this was osx 10.7 - I am on 10.9.

  • Is it possible to flag e-mails and/or right click an e-mail to mark as read/unread, etc. when using Microsoft Outlook Web Access in Firefox on a Mac?

Is it possible to flag e-mails and/or right click an e-mail to mark as read/unread, etc. when using Microsoft Outlook Web Access in Firefox on a Mac?

    Every time Firefox opened
== I've never been able to figure out how to do those things in Firefox.

When you use OWA in something other than IE, you're using OWA lite and no--it is not possible to do either in OWA lite (well, new Exchange stuff makes my answer a little less emphatic but still: pretty much no). Thanks Microsoft. But this guy made it possible to mark unread/read and select all/none:

  • Mail with Gmail IMAP: All mail getting marked as read

So other than being painfully slow, and just plain irritating, I have one huge problem with Mail (Tiger) and Gmail IMAP. All incoming mail is marked as read. The mail downloads, gets sorted into folders by the various rules, but the folders never show up with a number showing new messages. I have missed so many emails lately, I think I will have to go back to POP...or add a line to every single rule saying "mark as unread".
Is there a simple solution to this problem I am overlooking?
    Thanks...Sam

Yeah, the stupid part is that all SPAM comes marked as unread. So I get to see that I have spam, just not legitimate mail. Ugh.

  • Mail being marked as read automatically

I have iOS 6.1.4 on iPhone 5 and multiple mail accounts.
Gmail or Exchange - mail is being marked as read automatically even if I have not touched the mail. Not sure why this is happening but it is definitely an issue. I also beta tested version 7 beta 2 ios and it does the same thing.
with 5 minutes of the mail running on the iphone and no user intervention mail files are marked as read. The read is then synced to Gmail and Exchange accounts so you miss mail as all are marked as read.

I have stumbled across and answer to a similar question posted in 2012.

    It is not possible apparently.

  • E-Mail Not Marked as Read on Phone

    Hello,
I have a 9650 with BIS on Sprint. I get my e-mail through OWA. When I open or mark as read an e-mail on my phone, my Outlook inbox on my desktop is updated accordingly. However, when I open an e-mail on my desktop, my inbox on my phone is not updated to show that the e-mail has been opened. I have to go in an mark as read all of the items, which is a royal pain.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Mail being marked as read after I have read it - iOS

I have an issue where mail is being marked as unread immediately after I've read it on my iPad (3rd Gen) and iPhone 5 both running latest iOS 7. Any ideas?
I can see the blue dot, then I open the mail, the dot disappears temporarily, then while the mail is still open and I'm reading it the blue dot comes back. Its happening with two accounts setup as IMAP on both my devices.
Could this be a problem with the server on the side of my mail client? For what it's worth I have the same two accounts setup on my MacBook Pro as IMAP and have no such issue.
    Any help would be great!

This reply to is to correct the title of my question. It should read "Mail is being marked as UNREAD" after I have read it"

Hi, blwyer. I'm glad to hear your problem was resolved simply, but you really shouldn't be posting in randomly-selected forums to announce your success.
Now that your HD directory has been straightened out, are you able to connect to the Heirloom Castings web site that was giving you trouble before?

  • Sent Mail shows as "Delivered" but has question mark in icon

I have a user with a few sent emails to multiple parties that are listed as "Transferred" in the mail properties but have the question mark icon next to it. The definition of the question mark icon reads: "The item couldnt be delivered to the destination post office or it failed to transfer to the Internet."
Am I right to assume that these emails are successfully being sent out but are receiving the question mark icon due to an error on a recipient's end?
    Thanks!

  • Why do the e-mails in my BT Yahoo inbox marked as read when the e-mail is delivered to my iPad mini?

Why do the e-mails in my BT Yahoo Mail inbox mark as "read" when the e-mail is delivered to my new iPad mini..?

    Hi rowinator,
I assume, you've activated the thunderbirtd junk-filter? Or do you use your own filters?
May be there's another filter, executed afterwards, that marks the mail as junk? You can have a look into the filterlog.html in your TB folder, there you can see if one of your own filters caught this mails.
    regards

  • Mail, how to move and "mark as read" only copied mail?, Mail, how to move and "mark as read" only copied mail?

    Hi, I need a help to make a folder-backup (using a limited-size Exchange mailbox ... )
Is there a way, using Rules/Filter for Mail to:
copy a mail to a specific folder
mark as read only the copied mail
If I write this rule, the mail is copied, but both mail are mark-as-read and I cannot find what I need to read.
    Thanks.

But this marks the message as read also in Thunderbird.

  • Spaces turn into questions marks(?) on windows machines

    Hi.
I am new to Macs and am more than impressed so far. I am working in an office that uses strictly PC's and when I compose an email in Mail my coworker sees spaces at the end of my scentances as question marks when reading my email in his Outlook. They are not present online in GMail etc.
I am a bit of a rogue for using a Mac at work and want it to be seamless. I tried changing fonts and still same problem. Any ideas??
    Thanks

    Hi W. J.
Thank you for your reply. I tried your suggestion and I when I go into Mail preferences I seem to be stuck on the 'Accounts' section. I remember being able to alter my preferences when I first set up Mail (I have three accounts on the go) but I can't get back to the other prefrences.
I tried the suggetion that the next fellow suggested by going into terminal and it seems to have fixed my text problem and I can now use rich text. I am supprised that this is an issue since no one (even PC users) should be able to deny OS X's superiority over Win XP but these small incompatabilties are often what people use as an excuse not tomove to a Mac and Apple would do well to eliminate it (even if it is a weakness on the PC end).
    Thanks again for your help.
