Mail randomly highlights address field

I have a problem with Mail on our new iMac 20" 2.0 Ghz running Leopard 10.5.1.
For whatever reason, as we are adding addresses to the 'To' field of a new email, the 'To' field suddenly highlights all the addresses we've added so far, and then overwrites them with any new addresses we are adding. So it goes like this:
- Create New message
- Add one email address to the 'To' line
- Add another email address
- Add a third address
- About to add a fourth address when suddenly the whole 'To' field highlights all the addresses
- Add fourth address which (since all addresses are selected) overwrites previously entered addresses
It's as if we hit "Select All" (command A) as we are adding addresses to the 'To' line. It also does it on the 'Subject' line. I thought maybe we had a stuck key or something, but it ONLY happens in Mail, in those fields. The body of the message works fine. All other apps work fine.
I'm a designer and have used Mac for years. This only happens at home. My work Mac doesn't do it.
We are pulling in our Hotmail use HTTPMail plugin.
Please help it's almost impossible to create new messages at this point...
Thanks!
Greg

  • Mail skips from address field to subject field mid-typing

Sometimes -- maybe one out of fifty times – when I'm typing an address in the address field of a mail, a comma is automatically inserted and the cursor jups down to the Subject line, where I finish typing the addressee.
I then have to erase the Subject line, return to the Addresee line, remove the comma and finish the address.
This is really annoying but intermittent.
And it's been happening for over a year.
    Can anybody help?

  • Address field inserts my own email address from mail

    Hello,
Having a couple of issues with Mail and Address Book applications.
    1. When I am in the email application and want add a mailing address from the email to my existing contacts in Address Book, it successfully adds the physical address BUT it also always adds my personal email address in the email address field. WHy?
    2. In the same situation, mail does not always highlight the entire mailing address, cutting off the street address. Are physical addresses font sensitive or format sensitive? For example, the email from friend goes like this:
    My address
    XXX Main Street Unit 1
    Sunnyvale, CA XXXX
Looks like mail is confused with the "my address" and only allows the City, State, and zip to be added. I would think that mail would be much more smarter than this. If so, is there a workaround?
    Thanks!

Here are ways to add contact information:
In an address field of a message you’re sending, click the arrow in a Smart Address (an email address that appears within a blue field) and choose “Add to Address Book” from the pop-up menu.
In a message you’ve received, move the pointer over a phone number, email address, or street address anywhere in the text. Mail detects the information and outlines it as a field with a pop-up menu. Click the arrow and choose an option from the pop-up menu. For example, you can add the information to an existing contact or create a new contact. If you’re connected to the Internet, you can map an address.
In a message you’ve received, click the arrow in a Smart Address and choose “Add to Address Book” from the pop-up menu. Or select a message in the message window and choose Message > “Add Sender to Address Book.”
Choose Window > Previous Recipients. In the list, select an address and then click “Add to Address Book.” Addresses that are already in your address book have a card icon next to the name in the list.
To select addresses that are next to each other (contiguous) in the list, hold down Shift as you click the first and last addresses you want to add; to select addresses that are not next to each other in the list, hold down Command as you click each address.

  • Can I have Mail format the "From" field based on my Address book entries?

I have most of my contacts in my address book, but Mail still displays the "From" field in the message list pane with the normal email address header.
    Here's an example:
User A emails me a message from this address:
    "User A" <[email protected]>
In my Address Book, I have User A's info as this:
    First Name: Bob
    Last Name: Marley
    Email Address: [email protected]
In Mail, though, the "From" field in the message list view still says ...
    User A
... when I want it to say ...
    Bob Marley
Does that make sense? How can I do this?

All you need is a plug adaptor, if required. Apple sells an adapter kit:

  • Is there any ways to make Mail app show prefix and suffix in the address field?

I apologize for any inconvenience that my poor English may cause.
I would like to ask if there is a way to make Maill app show prefix and suffix in the address field.
This is, in my culture, very important, especially for formal situations. When I call someone such as professors, bosses, I should put prefix after their names to show my respect. In Microsoft Outlook, there is a field called 'Display as'.
    http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/contacts/contact-address-book-options-settings/
Therefore, I can choose how the name will be shown in my messages. For example, Prof. Kim instead of Kim. However, as far as I know, there isn't such options in Mail app. Is there any way that I can modify the way of displaying names in the address field in Mail app?

As far as I can determine, that is only how you see the email address, not how it is sent.
You can set up Prefixes and Suffixes in Contacts using the Add Field submenu of the Card menu:
If you use the Edit Template... command, you can choose to always have the Prefix and Suffix show on new cards.
However, I don't think Mail uses anything but First, Last for addressing emails.
You can override the behavior by manually with:
Prefix First Last Suffix <[email protected]>

  • Which e-mail sender address field is checked for restricted ePrint?

If I restrict ePrint to only accept print requests from certain e-mail addresses: Which e-mail address field of the incoming e-mail is checked?
    a) E-mail message header From:?
    b) E-mail message header Sender:?
    c) SMTP MAIL FROM: (the sender address on the "SMTP envelope")?
    Thanks

    Hi Christob,
If you are selecting Allow Senders Only under ePrintcenter.com.
Then you have to put in the email address of the people who can send jobs to your printer via ePrint.
Example:- If your friend wants to send an email to your printer and you have selected allow senders only.
You will have to have his email address in there (the email address from which he is going to send an email) for him to send an ePrint Job to your printer.
I hope this answers your question, if you have any question please let us know.

  • Validate 2 E-mail address fields in insert record form

    Hello,
I have used the Insert Record Form Wizard to create a form, including using the Validate Form Server Behavior to validate many fields.
I can't figure out how to compare & validate 2 E-mail address fields.
After the form was created I opened the existing Validate Form Server Behavior - Advanced tab and built the condition {sub_email2} != {sub_email} but this had no affect on submitting the form.
The other thing I tried was creating a new Compare Transaction Field behavior with the same condition {sub_email2} != {sub_email}, this also seemed to have no affect.
I am just a beginner, so I admit to not really knowing what I'm doing, for me ADDT has been a great aid.
The other thing I noticed, when I tried both the items above, besides not affecting being able to submit the form with different E-mail addresses. The red asterisks indicating a required field, would disappear.
Here is the form http://www.oescahealthregistry.org/forms/pedigree_submission.php this version of the form does NOT include either of my attempts to validate the E-mail fields.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Dennis

    Hi,
A compare statement should work fine. As an example I made small form that inserts name and email (2 fields) using Insert record wizard.
Name field is required, email field is required and checks that its a valid email structure ([email protected]). I then finish the wizard.
    <input type="text" name="email" id="email" value="<?php echo KT_escapeAttribute($row_rsemail['email']); ?>" size="32" />
    <?php echo $tNGs->displayFieldHint("email");?> <?php echo $tNGs->displayFieldError("email", "email"); ?>
I then add the extra field to the form that the 2nd email will be entered into, this one I called email2, I then copied the display hint and fielderror code from the first email and placed it behind the 2nd email box and changed the text to reflect email2. Which probably doesnt matter but I put it there anyway.
    <input name="email2" type="text" id="email2" size="32" />
    <?php echo $tNGs->displayFieldHint("email2");?> <?php echo $tNGs->displayFieldError("email2", "email2"); ?>
Now that I have both email fields in the form, I go to the developer tools under server behavior and select compare transactions fields under form validation.
I hit the + to add a field I then choose email for field, then == for condition, then {POST.email2} for compare to. I enter in an error message and hit ok.
Thats it the form is ready.
The first email field will check against email validation and the 2nd email will check against the first email.
    I hope that helps.
Take note that the database actually only has 2 fields to enter data. Then 2nd email field is only for validation.

  • Desktop Mailer truncates address field to 30 characters w/ Lorton NCOA

My database fields include a primary address field and a secondary address field, both with 48 characters maximum length.
After running the Lorton NCOA process using Business Objects Desktop Mailer Extended Services, data in the secondary address field had been truncated to 30 characters.  A Lorton technician assured me that Lorton had not done it, but that it was apparently a problem with Desktop Mailer.
No truncation appears to take place for the primary address field when data length > 30 characters.
Can anyone confirm this behavior and present a solution?

    Harry,
This is actually a limitation of Lorton.  This was included in the users guide for 7.90 on page 124
"When you perform Extended Services NCOALink, DSF2, or ZIP4 processing, Lorton Data returns 48 characters for the Address Line 1 field and 30 characters for Address Line 2 u2014 except in the case of move-updated records. If your Address Line 1 field and Address Line 2 field are set up longer than 48 and 30 characters, respectively, data in those fields will be truncated, and you may lose data. Move-updated records receive a total of 48 characters split between Address Line 1 and 2."
We are working with Lorton hopefully change this in the future.
    Thanks,
    Kendra

  • Yahoo! Mail glitches with Lion mail client and Address Book app

I had really been looking forward to using my Yahoo! mail account in the Lion mail client but now that it is here and I have set it up and used it for a few days I am noticing the following issues:
New mail is not always received or is received late. Yahoo! Webmail portal shows new items but these sometimes do not appear in Lion mail client even after a manual 'get mail' check.
Mail marked as read in Yahoo! Webmail portal or in mail clients in iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad is not marked as read in Lion mail client, however the reverse does work (i.e. mail marked as read in Lion mail client does mark the message as read in webmail and in clients on iOS devices).
Yahoo! Aliases are not supported. Yes, you can add aliases by inserting the other email addresses in the 'Email Address' field of the account settings, but you cannot add more than one display name.
I have also found that if you turn on Yahoo! contacts via the tick-box in the new 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' pref pane in System Preferences that I end up with random duplicated contacts. These duplicates are not seen on iOS devices, just in the Address Book app. If you delete a duplicate contact, it deletes the contact altogether. However, I have found that if you keep contacts unticked in the pref pane and add your Yahoo! account the old-fashioned way (i.e. via the Address Book app's own preferences) then the contacts sync through perfectly with no duplications.
I would be interested to know if anybody else is experiencing these issues. It may be worth noting that mine is not a @yahoo.com address but @xtra.co.nz which belongs to my ISP here in New Zealand, but the mail is managed by Yahoo!. The account works perfectly as a Yahoo! account on iOS devices and does appear to be working in Lion, except for these small glitches but I don't imagine these are specific to @xtra.co.nz addresses.
    Thanks
    Steve

i've had the same experience here.
essentially it seems like lion mail.app just takes an incredibly long time to pickup new changes from the IMAP server at yahoo.
ios and webmail are obviously much quicker.
if it is working on ios, why does is it so delayed in mail?
    any solutions out there?

  • How to use a .Mac alias in the outgoing address field from iPhone?

I do not want my .Mac Apple ID showing up in the outgoing address field from my iPhone. I want to use an alias instead, just like I use in Mail. How can I use the same alias in iPhone?
The iPhone has been great once I finally got it activated...no problems synching from Outlook on my PC and Address Book and iCal on my Mac. Now all of my PC and Mac data are finally merged on my iPhone and on both computers...wish I would have saved the money I spent on two versions of MissingSync! Looking forward to some software updates...

If you want to setup a different REPLY TO, you have to use the OTHER shortcut when creating the mail account on the iPhone. It allows you to specify an address in the Account Information box different from your incoming and outgoing server login IDs.

  • How to define a mail group email address?

    Hi,
I have defined several groups and would like to use them as a mail group. By the default the address is [email protected]
I have defined several virtual domains on my server that can accept mails for individual user. I would like to have the following address working [email protected]
How can I set it up as the email cannot be set for groups in the workgroup manager (It is only working for users).
I also tried with the directory utility but I can create an Emailaddress key for a group or an user but it is not taken into account by the mail server. (workgroup manager probably does more than just creating an entry on the open directory :-( )
    Thanks for you help !
    Frédéric

group addresses have been broken for some time.
I've used scripts to create aliases based on a group name and its members.
Below is a script that I've used on 10.7 with users in LDAP.
Any group which has a comment of 'mail' will be turned into an alias with the proper recipients.
You'll need to run it on a schedule (unless you want to run it manually) and you'll need to modify it for 10.8 and your specific environment.
I'll try to put together a 10.8 version sometime soon...
    cd /etc/postfix
    # clear current aliases
    echo "" > group_aliases.tmp
    # Get list of groups with 'mail' in the comment field
    gr=`dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -list /Groups Comment | grep mail | awk '{print $1}'`
    for group in $gr
       do
          echo $group: `dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -read /Groups/$group dsAttrTypeNative:memberUid | cut -d : -f 3 | grep -v "No such key"` >> group_aliases.tmp
       done
    cmp -s group_aliases.tmp group_aliases > /dev/null
       if [ $? -eq 1 ]; then
          echo different
          cp group_aliases.tmp group_aliases
          /usr/sbin/postalias /etc/postfix/group_aliases
          /usr/bin/newaliases
       else
          echo same
       fi
    exit

  • Unable to create or edit AD (mail) contacts in address book

    Hi!
I recently imported quite a list of contacts from an old CRM application into Exchange. All entries are nicely created in domain.local\company\location\Contacts. All fields are visible in Outlook under All Address Lists\All Contacts.
As we have a small company, just a few users, I want to give most of them the rights to create and update entries in the All Contacts folder, just as they were used to in the old app.
I started by creating role groups following this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2013/08/07/creating-rbac-role-to-delegate-contact-management.aspx
I created an Admin Role group named Contact Administration, which contains the required Members, and I assigned two role groups to this group: Contact_Management, which is based on the Mail Recipient Creation parent group, and Contact_Management_2,
which is based on the Mail Recipient parent group. The Write Scope is: domain.local\company\location\Contacts.
Because this didn't result in anyone being able to update the contacts, I also created a group in Active Directory and delegated control on the contacts OU to this group, even though I think this doesn't add to the desired result (as it indeed didn't).
What am I missing here? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to create or edit a mail contact in address book, please follow these steps: -
Use the Shell to create a contact
This example creates mail contact for Debra Garcia in Exchange Server 2013
New-MailContact -Name "Debra Garcia" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected] -OrganizationalUnit Users
This example creates a mail contact for Alan Shen in Exchange online.
New-MailContact -Name "Alan Shen" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected]
    3.     This example mail-enables an existing contact named Karen Toh in Exchange Server 2013.
Enable-MailContact -Identity "Karen Toh" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected]
    To add a contact: -
You can use the EAC to change selected properties for multiple mail contacts. When you select two or more mail contacts from the contacts lit in the EAC, the properties that can be bulk edited are displayed in the Details pane. When you change one of these properties, the change applies to all selected recipients.
When you bulk edit mail contacts, you can change the following properties areas: -
    ·        Contact Information: - Change shared properties such as street, postal code, and city name.
    ·        Organization: - Change shared properties such as department name, company name, and the manager that the selected mail contact or mail users report to.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

  • How to migrate addresses Mail remembers, into Address Book?

So I just discovered I could make mailing lists using Address Book, but that leaves me with a giant task. Since I started using Apple Mail, I've entered many addresses which Mail now remembers, but ... Mail does not automatically migrate the remembered addresses I've entered in its To/Cc/Bcc header lines, into Address Book. So, I will have to enter the addresses I want to put in a group, into Address Book manually, unless ... someone knows how to transfer Mail's remembered addresses (i.e. the dropdown choices Mail gives you when you start typing a name/address it has seen before) into the Address Book application.
Also I've never been able to determine if there is any way to delete or change the addresses which Mail remembers. I now have a bunch of addresses for people who have changed their email address, and their past addresses appear in the dropdown list when I start typing their name. Anyone know how to manage Mail's remembered addresses?

This didn't work for me. I highlighted a bunch of addresses in the 'previous recipients' list, clicked 'Add to Address Book' then closed out and looked in the address book. None of the names were to be found. Noting that the functionality of the 'add [address] to Address Book' dropdown is also missing, is there currently some incompatibility between Mail (v4.4) and Address Book (v5.0.3) that needs to be remedied?

When I insert and then merge address fields into a letter, when the letters are built the letters seem to be in random order - rather than in Alphabetic order - Starting with Last names that start with A on through to the Z's.

I would really like to know the answer to this one as well. I've tried everything. My Address Book is in alphabetical order of contact surname but letters and envelopes come out in a random order (could it be age of the record?)
