Mail Receives Mail Late

Am i the only one...but every-time i start mail.....or occasionally when i click the "get mail" icon...i begin to receive mail that should have been received days ago...my iphone receives email at the exact time it is sent.... i only have Gmail, and it is very fusterating......it's either i recieve some email messages or none...then a few days later i receive alot of old ones.......but the iphone retrieves it all the time without delay.....what can i do?

It's possible that it's somehow server related, but I'm having a very similar experience. It seems to be related to the size of your IMAP mailbox. Unfortunately with imap you can't choose to sync only some messages, so it's scanning your entire database on server and client side. It seems to take longer for read messages than unread messages to update.
I can't find a solution to this anywhere in the threads. I experience the problem differently on my two different macs, but I do experience it to some extent on both macs but neither blackberry nor iphone.
For me, the other oddity is that Mail never exits, I always have to force quit.

  • Lion Mail receives mail but will not send

Suddenly my (1 year old) MacBookPro's Mail program will receive but not send to my gmail account.  When it trys to send I get the message:
"Cannot send messageusing the server smtp.gail.com:[email protected]
The server “smtp.gmail.com:[email protected]” cannot becontacted on the default ports.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list belowor click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
I have a MacBook Air on which the Mail program works perfectly.  I've verified that the MBA and the MBP are using identical settings.
Any thoughts on what I should try next?

Just execute the three commands in three different terminals.
The IP-Number you connected to is strange. A reverse-lookup gives:
    $ nslookup 74.125.53.108
    Server: 192.168.178.1
    Address: 192.168.178.1#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    108.53.125.74.in-addr.arpa name = pw-in-f108.1e100.net.
That is definitively not google. Is it the same from both notebook? If not you have a dns problem on the MacBook Pro! It could be your local router or some kind of proxy of your internet-provider.
Try entering the IP directly. So, a forward-lookup (in terminal) should give the following IPs:
    $ nslookup smtp.gmail.com
    Server:                    192.168.178.1
    Address:          192.168.178.1#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    smtp.gmail.com          canonical name = gmail-smtp-msa.l.google.com.
    Name:          gmail-smtp-msa.l.google.com
    Address: 74.125.39.109
    Name:          gmail-smtp-msa.l.google.com
    Address: 74.125.39.108
Use one of the above IPs directly in Mail as your server for sending mail. Does this help?
If not: Did you try the "Connection Doctor" in the windows-menu of Mail? At which point it becomes stuck?

  • Mail: Received mails - addresses with foreign chars

    Hi
It's hard to describe my problem in the topic
I am using Apple Mail, currently Version 2.1.1 (752.3). Now I have a weird issue with mail addresses. When I receive email (mostly from our company's outlook users), some of the mail adresses in the TO or CC fields are split and unusable. An example: I receive a mail with CC to a guy called "René Füglister". His mail address would be [email protected] or something. The sender sent the mail to "René Füglister <[email protected]>". Now, my CC line looks like this:
    Füglister, René Füglister <[email protected]>
When I try to reply to all now, it tries to reply to "Füglister" and "René Füglister <[email protected]>". The fist one is obviously wrong and gets rejected by the mail server.
I have experienced this ONLY with foreign characters. What can I do?
    Thanks for any hint!
    Cheers
    Rico
PS: It didn't help to change my app language from English to German :-/

  • Mac Mail receiving mail from another account

I have 2 completely different e-mail accounts active in Mac Mail. Although mail is being sent to the "non" Mac mail account, the Mac Mail account receives the mail. When I move the mail to the other account, it reappears in Mac Mail.

Okay, I have had the problem of not being able to send email although I was recieving email.  After reading prior posts on this topic, I turned OFF all three of my email accounts and then turned them back on and that worked!!!!!!!
Finally!  I have spent a lot of time on this issue trying to resolve it so I hope this post will help someone who has the same issues.
I didn't have a problem with this with my original iphone, but then I dropped that phone in my coffee one morning and when I recieved the replacement, for some reason I had to manually set up each account and it wasn't as intuitive as it was the first time I set them up.  Good luck.

  • Mail receives mail automatically when I open it. How do you stop this?

I have set up my Mail to "Check for new mail manually" in preferences. However it checks for mail when I start the program. I'd rather it not and make it a totally manual process.
Is there any way to stop it?. Thanks!

Are you sure the account is checked for new mail?
A .Mac type account is really an IMAP type account so any mailboxes stored on the server (under the .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer) are automatically synchronized with the server when first launching Mail and connected to the internet if the account is enabled under the Advanced tab for the account preferences.
I have 3 POP type accounts, a .Mac account and 2 IMAP type accounts. As a test, I deselected "Include when automatically checking for new mail" for all accounts and then quit and re-launched Mail. None of my accounts checked the incoming mail server for new mail but all server stored mailboxes for my .Mac account were synchronized with the server.

  • Unable to send mail, can receive mail

I'm working on my mother's computer. It's sent mail just fine. All of a sudden it can't send any mail, receives mail just fine. I've been reading previous posts. I tried entering port 587 in the server port. I changed use authentication to password, checked user name, and password. We get an error message that mail is unable to send and will remain in the outbox. This time after we changed to the port 587when we tried to send a message: we got a message to re enter our password. It never asked that before.
We plan on checking with verizon tomorrow to see if they can help from their end. I hate being caught in these loops, my guess is they'll say it's the computer. Can anyone help us?? What else can we do? We have 6 messages sitting in the outbox unable to send any.

Unless Verizon's SMTP server requires and supports authentication, changing the authentication from None to Password will have no effect.
Try deleting and re-creating Verizon's SMTP server and if there are any SMTP servers available to choose from not being actively used by any account, delete those.

    hi,
    1. create your directory configuration using directory wizard
and you'll be sure that everything will be ok
    2. make sure you use outbound asynchronous message interface (for mail)
    3. make sure you check quality of service to Exacly once

  • Problem to receive mail with Apple Mail client

Apple Mail cannot receive mail. Mail is sent without any problems. I thought that it may have to do with my iPhone but when it is shut down I still get this error.
The error message that I get is:
    Unable to Receive Mail
The mail server denied access to the account "xxxxxxx" because an administrator or other mail client was using it when Mail tried to log in. Please try again later.
The server error encountered was: Unable to lock maildrop: Mailbox is locked by POP server.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

I determined the problem had to do with other computers configured with POP (same account) locking the mailbox. Moral of the story is to just have one computer configured with POP and all the rest with IMAP.

  • Mail not receiving mail and refuses to quit when prompted

When I open Mail, it seems to work fine. It receives all messages from the server without any problems; however, a few days later I notice that I don't get any mail from the Mail.app. However, I know I have been getting e-mails because of my iPhone and the Gmail Notifier.
I try to quit Mail when this happens, but I have to force quit the application. Mail does not stop responding. It just doesn't quit. There are no error messages. It just doesn't receive mail after a while and won't even if I press the "Get Mail" button.
Thank you in advance for helping me out with this.

I have this same problem as well. Mail will work fine for a few hours then it will get "stuck" on downloading a message. I never gets unstuck and I can't quit mail or the activity of downloading the mail - thus I have to force quit the app several times a day. It will also occasionally tell me to rebuild the index, which I do, but it only seems to help for a couple of hours until the next message gets stuck while downloading. Mail.app ran fine up until recently.
The only thing I can think of recently is that I have been on some sites that say "if you visit this site it may damage your computer" - I never downloaded anything... can malware be added to you computer just by visiting a site via the safari browser? I ran a malware/virus scan and it found mostly windows malware/viruses in old archived email attachments. Any ides?
FWIW: I'm using POP accounts and keeping them on the server for 1 week

  • Receiving mails in BPEL

    Hi All
I am trying to implement a buisness scenario where
    (1) User are receiving email notification
    (2) Bpel is receiving email notification
For the scenario 1 , i am able implement using email notification services provided in BPEL
but for Scenario 2 i need help
I tried using the sample tutotial 117.ReceiveEmails , but it is not working .
The service used in the tutoria is MailService and the wsdl file is provided .
I am not able to figure out where the service is delpoyed as the wsdl file is not discussing anything about the end point ?,
Can any one please suggest some way of receiving mails in BPEL ,.. or any information about the sample tutorial which could lead to a working solution.
    Cheers

Thanx pater.Ya i'm trying the same thing which is given in 117.ReceiveEmails tutorial.
I got the thing.its working. Actually i m using JAMES Mail Server and ThunderBird cliet GUI.
The first problem was it was throwing Exception but was not displaying
Which Execption Error . Then i saw application server command window there it was giving "Exception....Summary:Authenticatuion Failed". So it menas username/password is worng. But i was passing correct values then also it was throwing same exception.Later i cretaed new user in mail server then i got it.It was working. But why it was not working with previous username/password is still mistry.
Second problem i faced was BPEL process was waitng infinitely on receive activity for mails even though i have sent the mail. Then some how i observed that after sending the mail if i use ThunderBird tool to see that mail then tht mail was getting deleted from Inbox so BPEL process was not getting tht mail. So what i did is after sendng the mail i didnt check thru ThunderBird tool then BPEL process was getting tht mail n its working.
i think its Server setting problem. Mails are getting deleted once u read them.So either BPEL or ThunderBird only one of then was able to detect the new mail.
Anyways, now m working with Search string option in Mails.
i may ask u if i wont get it. Fine??
    Thanx,
    -Mishit

  • Cannot RECEIVE mail - But can send :(

Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong here? I'm switching from MS Entourage to the new version of Mail. I've copied all the settings across from Entourage (which is still sending & receiving mail after the upgrade from 10.4.10 to 10.5) The connection Doctor is saying that everything is connected etc I've even set up a mail account to my home email, which i can send & receive from...
Account type is POP, email entered, password entered, incoming & outgoing mail servers entered, there is no error messages coming up. I create a message in Mail, addressed to myself - nothing happens... ten mins later I fire up Entourage, and receive the message I sent from Mail!?

Call your mail service provider. Have them tackle it.

  • Can Send but CANNOT Receive mail

Ok, so I tried fixing this by myself but that obviously hasn't worked. I recently updated to Leopard, had a problem sending mail which I fixed, everything was running smoothly, and now all of a sudden I just don't receive mail anymore. It's been about a week, I just don't get the mail, the account won't synchronise with the server, etc., There are no error messages and it's as if everything worked fine except that I don't receive my mail.
    THanks
PS: the incoming mail server is correct.

    Hello M:
Check the help menu when mail is open to be sure you followed all of those suggestions.
Here are some troubleshooting tips I got from the knowledge base:
    +Top 10 troubleshooting tips+
    +1) Use the Connection Doctor+
+If you're using Mac OS X 10.4 or later, have the Connection Doctor make a house call. In Mail, choose Connection Doctor from the Window menu to have it check your server connections. If it finds any trouble, it'll display a red Status indicator next to the problematic account and provide some information and advice in the Details column. If you see a red indicator, follow the doctor's advice to try and fix the issue.+
+2) Make Sure That You're Connected to the Internet+
+To send and receive email, your Mac must be connected to the Internet. To verify whether your connection is working, open your web browser and visit any website. If your Internet connection doesn't appear to be working, see our Internet Quick Assist to get your connection back up and running.+
+3) Ask for Permission if You're Being Denied+
+If a sheet appears that says you need permission when you try to send email, your computer's administrator has restricted email access for your account. To request permission from your administrator to send the message, click Ask Permission in the dialog.+
+4) Make Sure That You're Not Being Blocked by a Firewall+
+If you or a network administrator has a firewall blocking email traffic on port 25, 465, or 587, you may not be able to send email. If you've installed firewall software separately from Mac OS X, try temporarily disabling it to see if you can send email. There may also be firewall software built into a shared Internet router or administered by your ISP or network administrator; contact the appropriate person to find out if a firewall exists.+
    +5) Check Your Email Settings+
+Open Mail preferences (from the Mail menu, choose Preferences), click Accounts, and verify the settings for your account in question. If you can't send email, make sure that you're using your ISP's SMTP server, or “smtp.mac.com” if you have a .Mac account, for the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) setting. If you can't receive email, make sure that you're using your ISP's incoming mail server, or “mail.mac.com” if you have a .Mac account, for the Incoming Mail Server setting. Check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or network administrator if you're unsure about what settings to use—especially if you've changed some Advanced options in Mail preferences, such as SSL or authentication to access an account remotely.+
    +6) Send Yourself an Email+
+If you can send email from your account but you're not sure whether or not you're able to get any, send yourself an email. Your message will go out through your outgoing mail server and back in through your incoming mail server. After sending yourself a test email, wait a minute or so for the servers to send the data, then click Get Mail in Mail (wait a little longer if you still haven't gotten it yet). If you don't get your own email after waiting about 15 minutes, try these other tips.+
+7) Find Out if Your Mail Servers Can Be Reached+
+Open Network Utility (/Applications/Utilities) and click the Ping tab. Ping is a utility that lets you test whether a server is running or not and if it can be reached from your computer. If you can't send email, type the outgoing server address in the top field (it'll look something like smtp.company.com). If you're not able to receive email, type the incoming server address in the top field (it'll look something like mail.company.com). Then click the Ping button. If you see 10 repeating lines, your computer can successfully reach the server. If you see a message that says something like “unknown host,” the server is either down or unreachable. Wait a while and then try sending or getting email again. (Please note that this test does not work with .Mac accounts.)+
+8) Check If Your Account is Using the Email Servers+
+To check if all servers are in use by your accounts, open Mail preferences, click Accounts, then click Account Information. From the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) pop-up menu, choose Edit Server List to display a list of servers. If you see an entry in the “In Use By Account” column for a server, that server is in use. If you have any servers listed that don't have an entry in this column, select the server, click Remove Server, and then click Done. If you see that your affected account isn't “In Use,” go back to step 5 to reset your server settings.+
+9) Make Sure That Your Account Isn't Offline+
+If Mail can't connect to and access your account's incoming server when it checks for messages, it will take your account “offline.” Take a look at your Inbox icon. If it appears dimmed or you see an exclamation point or tilde-looking icon (~) next to it or one of your account names (if you have more than one account), try taking it back online. Click the icon to the right of the affected account's name or select the account and choose Mailbox > Online Status > Take “account name” Online.+
    +10) Reset Your Email Account+
+Try deleting your email account from Mail and then setting the account back up again. Before you do this, save all messages that you want to keep in a different mailbox on your Mac (to create a new Mailbox, choose New Mailbox from the Mailbox menu, choose On My Mac from the Location pop-up menu, type a name for your mailbox, click OK, and then drag the messages that you want to keep to this new mailbox). To delete the account, choose Preferences from the Mail menu, then click Accounts. Make note of the information for the account you want to reset, then select the account in the Accounts list and click the remove button. To recreate your account, click the add button and reenter the information for your account. You can then drag all of your messages from the alternate mailbox back into your newly recreated account.+
