Mail Server Settings - Automatically adding :username at end of server

i cannot receive mail with my POP account. this happened on my G5 as well with 10.4.10 Mail, and i was able to fix it performing the 3 steps below. No luck though with the new iMac.
1. smtp server: make sure there's 1 server @ smtp.mywebsite.com
2. server settings: outgoing mail server is smtp.mywebsite.com
i selected port 25 with password authentication and left SSL unchecked, and typed my username and password in the fields below
3. restart mail...
still not able to get mail. checked preferences and advanced smtp settings, and mail keeps adding a colon then username after my server. this is happening automatically. i have deleted the server and repeated these steps several times. did not have this colon problem on my G5.

This is ok when your username gets added (indeed it's just displayed, but no setting is changed). Besides that, SMTP is not being used to receive mail (SMTP is for sending mail only).
When you can not receive your mail, there is something wrong with your POP3 settings (or IMAP settings, if your account is of this type).

So, i am not able to enter anything in fields under SMTP server settings

You probably have changing settings disabled in Restrictions.

  • Workaround to adding two e-mail alias accounts with same username.

I have two e-mail addresses (aliases) (for example [email protected] and [email protected]) running under one (same) username "jimmy" and the same password on the same mail server (basically one e-mail account with two e-mail address aliases). I wanted to have both added to my iPad running iOS 5. I added the first without a problem, but when I tried to add the second one, the iPad complained that an account with the username "jimmy" already exists and gave me a prompt window with two options, "Cancel" and "Edit". Cancel was supposed to cancel the whole e-mail account creating procedure and take me back to Settings/Mail, and "Edit" was supposed to take me back to editing this e-mail account so I could change it (select another username). It turned out that both "Cancel" and "Edit" threw me out of the editing procedure and put me back into Settings/Mail. Seems like a bug.
I managed to use a workaround to add my second e-mail address account (alias) to the iPad 2 with the same account username. I started creating the second account and filled in all the information but I intentionally mystyped the username as "jimmo". Now when I tapped "Done" the iPad wanted to verify the account (as normal) but soon warned me that either the username or password were incorrect and that the account may not work correctly, but it did allow me to add it.  I then went in and edited this second account and changed it's incoming mail server username to "jimmy".
Now I have both e-mail addresses (aliases) using one account correctly set-up. Just thought I'd write this in case anyone would encounter the same problem/bug.

EDIT: When using Mail application to check e-mails I am getting sporadic "Cannot Get Mail: The user name or password for "<name_of_account> is incorrect." The password is correct and it works when I retry. If I disable one of the accounts in the Settings/Mail (set to Inactive) then the other one (using the same password on the same server) works without hiccups. They definitely have to work on this bug and fix it.

  • Correct settings for adding Exchange account in Mail

I have successfully added an exchange account to my iPhone. However, to add the same account to Mail there different, additional settings that I cannot seem to get right.
the details I entered into my phone are as follows (please excuse the xxx's but I thought it best not to publish the full details of how to access my server!)
    server: arexxx1.axxxring.com
    domain: axxxring.local
    username: daniel
    password: xxxxxx
the settings that are required to add an exchange account to mail are:
    incoming mail server
    username
    password
    outlook web access server
    outgoing mail server
can anyone advise me how the settings I entered into my iphone might apply to the fields in Mail or if it is even possible.
    I am using os x 10.5.8 and exchange 2003.
    Many thanks

Obviously you know your username and password so all you should require is the incoming and outgoing mail server addresses which you can obtain from the domain IT people who provide the Exchange account. I am not sure what the outlook web access server address is, but your IT people should know.

  • Mail server automatically cc all email for user to other acct but group...

Back on April 2007, David_X answered this question:
How to have the mail server automatically cc all e-mail for user to other accounts, (gmail, hotmail, etc). Here is the old post that explains that:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4357149&#4357149
What I did not catch at the time was if you setup a Group, one of three ways, the cc step no longer works. There is a fourth way but it is not practical. Creating local groups on individual Macs.
    *Group method 1 per David_X:*
Use edited group files on the server.
The following sends to members of groups but does not show all recipients in the received message...
    In /etc/postfix/aliases, add...
    groupname: :include:/path/to/groupname.txt
In a file called groupname.txt (using plaintext editor)...
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    Reload aliases...
    sudo newaliases
    sudo postalias aliases
    sudo postfix reload
Mail sent to [email protected] gets passed to amavisd once, before then being relayed out for each individual recipient.
    *Group method 2 per David_X:*
    Make a user, e.g., "accounts"
In mail settings, select 'Forward' option and enter the group members' email addresses, comma separated e.g.,
    [email protected],[email protected]
This gets a bit 'long' for lots of members.
The email then gets sent to each of the people in this list.
*Group method 3 that I just discovered:*
Create a group in Workgroup Manager.
Drag the users you want in it.
    Save.
    Test sending to that group.
Best part, the group name shows up in Address Book if you have LDAP setup.
So I have setup all three. If I send an email to any type of group, they work.
    The problem:
If one of those members in the group also has a BCC setup to Gmail or any other outside email, they never get the e-mail copied out to the external account.
    Example:
I send an email to [email protected]. He gets the email there and also a copy at his Gmail account.
If I send an email to the Sales group that jsmith belongs to, he gets the email there but nothing at the Gmail account.
It looks like the mail server processes the "aliases" file and skips the "Recipient_bcc" file that handles the forwards.
Is there a way to have my cake and eat it too? David_X your thoughts also?
    Thanks everyone!

    Bump.
Short version. Sales guy has a Gmail account he wants his e-mail copied to also.
Send e-mail directly to his Xserve account, he gets it there and it gets sent on to his Gmail account.
Send an e-mail to the sales Group that he is a member of, he gets it there but it never gets sent out to the Gmail account.
    Ideas?

  • Can't connect to mail server - DNS Server settings?

    Hello:
Let me preface this question by saying that computer networking is not my strong suit.
Last week I moved our web hosting from our ISP to Lunarpages; our domain is marshall-arts.net. I set up some POP email accounts on our new mail servers and was able to successfully send and receive email wirelessly using our G4 ibook. However, none of our networked desktop systems could connect to our new mail server, although they could connect to our ISP's mail server; they also have no problem connecting to the web. The mail server and user names were identical between the desktop systems and the ibook. But upon closer examination of the TCP/IP settings of the ibook I found that the ibook had 209.253.113.10 entered into the DNS Servers (optional) field. That field was blank in the desktop systems. Once I entered that address into the DNS Servers field on the desktop systems they had no problem connecting to our Lunarpages mail servers.
Here's our setup, as best as I can describe it:
We have an AirPort Extreme connected to our DSL router. It's connected via ethernet, configured manually with a static IP, router and DNS server addresses provided by our ISP. It's set to distribute IP addresses with the AirPort client computers sharing a single IP address using DHCP and NAT (10.0.1.1. addressing). It's connected via ethernet to a Linksys gigabit ethernet switch to which we have connected three desktop Macs running OS 10.3.x and 10.4.x.
The TCP/IP of the three desktop systems and the ibook are configured Using DHCP.
As I wrote above, only the ibook had an address entered into the DNS Servers field, 209.253.113.10. This doesn't correspond to anything our ISP provided (those addresses are entered in the AirPort Extreme.) I have no idea where it came from.
    So I have two questions:
Would that address have been generated automatically while setting up the AirPort connection on the ibook?
Why would that supposedly optional DNS Server address be required for me to connect to our new mail servers (but not our old ISP mail servers)?
    Thank you.

  • Adding "address_verify_sender" to 10.3.9 Mail server

I would like to include the "addressverifysender" restriction to Postix, which is availabe for use with Postfix 2.1 and up.
Since I am running 10.3.9, Mail came with Postfix 2.0. I am reluctunt to upgrade Postfix, specially since last time I tried that it caused all kind of problems the least of which is the Apple's Graphic interface and overriden Serveradmin command-line action.
Any one with suggestions on how to upgrade Postfix are adding the equivelant to "addressverifysender" to 2.0 with minimal problems?
Incidently, I am also running CLAMAV and Spamassassin.
    Thanks in advance
    Nabil

Actually, the feature I am interested in is " rejectunverifiedsender " which is usuaully inserted in the "smtpdrecipientrestrictions" in main.cf
According to postconf5 (http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html) " rejectunverifiedsender " is available in Postfix 2.1 and up. I have previously tried it with 2.0 and it indicated thet "restriction is unknown"
In the links indicated by David the setup first implies that you know the "usual suspects" domains ( yahoo, msn, netscape, etc..) The "rejectunverifiedsender " checks the existance of a sender username with the sending mailserver, and that after it verifies the mail server (helo, domain, etc..)

  • Adding an SMTP mail server to an existing Weblogic server on Windows 7

    Hi,
I need to send e-mail from pl/sql, using UTL_MAIL, but my google searches don't find how to add an SMTP mail server to my pc.
I have found that Microsoft offers IIS but I think the SMTP server could be part of Weblogic?
Please redirect me to the proper Oracle Mail forum if it exists.
    Many thanks for your help.

Sure, all you need to do is install the server with the mailbox role (and other roles, if you want), configure whatever mailbox databases you want on it (and configure the other roles you have added), then put mailboxes on it.
Some advice - do not use the GUI for the installation because it will install default mailbox and public folder databases.  If you use the setup.com (the text-based installation), you can control databases.  We had to rebuild a server once and
the engineer assisting us had us use the GUI and we ended up with a public folder database, which we had to remove (since we have no public folders in our organization).
Once you have the new server installed, you can either create new mailboxes on it, or you can move existing mailboxes from your other databases to it.  With the Exchange 2010 move mailbox commands, this is a very simple process.
BTW, when you get around to removing your P2V'ed system(s), make sure you handle any CAS virtual servers (OWA, ECP, OAB) and ensure they are hosted on a server that will remain.  You could end up painting yourself into a corner if you don't.

  • What is incoming and outgoing mail server on adding a new emial account???

What is incoming and outgoing mail server on adding a new emial account???

The servers your email provider uses to route incoming and outgoing messages to and from email accounts.  If you are trying to set up and email account on your phone you need to get the required information for these settings from your email provider.

  • Hey guys! I went to Mexico over spring break and messed up my email settings. Now I can't send any emails what so ever, but I can get them. It says that an outgoing mail server smpt.live has failed. So...I need help! I haven't sent an email since march!

    #emailhelp

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • Can't setup Gmail account - "Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server "

Since upgrading to Yosemite I can't add one of my gmail accounts.
It's my business domain which is hosted with GMAIL. It worked before the upgrade. Now adding the email address in 'internet accounts setup'  I get the message "Can't setup Gmail account - "Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server "
Mail will not let me setup an email account directly in mail either.
There seems to be major problems with mail in this update.
    Also SMTP keeps failing.
    Yosemite is a disaster.

Try this. I saw this solution elsewhere on the boards here.
When setting up a business gmail account, something other than @gmail.com, when you try to add the account in Mail preferences, don't select Google as the account type. Choose, "Other." Fill out the name, email and password as usual. Worked great for me after having similar issues trying to get my business gmail account to work in Yosemite.

  • Mail Server Settings for Email Clients

There must be something wrong with my iCloud account but I can't figure out what it could be:
I can't add my iCloud account to third party clients (Postbox, Airmail & MailPilot) I get error messages.
I succesfully added my cousin's iCloud account in those apps, on my own iMac in all 3 apps, no problem at all, yet It doesn't work with my account even though I'm using the exact same settings in both cases!
    I'm using the following settings
    IMAP Server: imap.mail.me.com
    IMAP Port: 993
IMAP Connection Type: TLS / SSL
    IMAP Authentication: Auto Detect
    SMTP Server: smtp.mail.me.com
    SMTP Port: 587
    SMTP Connection Type: Start TLS
    SMTP Authentication: Auto Detect
    I did peruse this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4864 and tried many changes, no can do! I also tried to replace ' imap.mail.me.com ' and ' smtp.mail.me.com ' with ' p07-imap.mail.me.com ' and ' p07-smtp.mail.me.com ' (I found ' p07 ' in Mail.app settings). I also tried p04, p99... Nothing seems to work.
But then again those 3 mail clients work instantly with anyone else's iClound account, on my very iMac! (which sports OS X 10.9.2)
Other than that, no problem using my iCloud account on MAS, iTunes Store, iTunes, iOS. iCloud.com...

    They're Apples instructions, not mine.
What (if any) error messages do you get, and have you checked what is happening with Connection Doctor?

    Hi all,
Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
Hope that helps some of you!
