Adding "address_verify_sender" to 10.3.9 Mail server

I would like to include the "addressverifysender" restriction to Postix, which is availabe for use with Postfix 2.1 and up.
Since I am running 10.3.9, Mail came with Postfix 2.0. I am reluctunt to upgrade Postfix, specially since last time I tried that it caused all kind of problems the least of which is the Apple's Graphic interface and overriden Serveradmin command-line action.
Any one with suggestions on how to upgrade Postfix are adding the equivelant to "addressverifysender" to 2.0 with minimal problems?
Incidently, I am also running CLAMAV and Spamassassin.
Thanks in advance
Nabil

Actually, the feature I am interested in is " rejectunverifiedsender " which is usuaully inserted in the "smtpdrecipientrestrictions" in main.cf
According to postconf5 (http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html) " rejectunverifiedsender " is available in Postfix 2.1 and up. I have previously tried it with 2.0 and it indicated thet "restriction is unknown"
In the links indicated by David the setup first implies that you know the "usual suspects" domains ( yahoo, msn, netscape, etc..) The "rejectunverifiedsender " checks the existance of a sender username with the sending mailserver, and that after it verifies the mail server (helo, domain, etc..)

  • Adding an SMTP mail server to an existing Weblogic server on Windows 7

    Hi,
    I need to send e-mail from pl/sql, using UTL_MAIL, but my google searches don't find how to add an SMTP mail server to my pc.
    I have found that Microsoft offers IIS but I think the SMTP server could be part of Weblogic?
    Please redirect me to the proper Oracle Mail forum if it exists.
    Many thanks for your help.

    Sure, all you need to do is install the server with the mailbox role (and other roles, if you want), configure whatever mailbox databases you want on it (and configure the other roles you have added), then put mailboxes on it.
    Some advice - do not use the GUI for the installation because it will install default mailbox and public folder databases.  If you use the setup.com (the text-based installation), you can control databases.  We had to rebuild a server once and
    the engineer assisting us had us use the GUI and we ended up with a public folder database, which we had to remove (since we have no public folders in our organization).
    Once you have the new server installed, you can either create new mailboxes on it, or you can move existing mailboxes from your other databases to it.  With the Exchange 2010 move mailbox commands, this is a very simple process.
    BTW, when you get around to removing your P2V'ed system(s), make sure you handle any CAS virtual servers (OWA, ECP, OAB) and ensure they are hosted on a server that will remain.  You could end up painting yourself into a corner if you don't.

    i cannot receive mail with my POP account. this happened on my G5 as well with 10.4.10 Mail, and i was able to fix it performing the 3 steps below. No luck though with the new iMac.
    1. smtp server: make sure there's 1 server @ smtp.mywebsite.com

    i selected port 25 with password authentication and left SSL unchecked, and typed my username and password in the fields below

    This is ok when your username gets added (indeed it's just displayed, but no setting is changed). Besides that, SMTP is not being used to receive mail (SMTP is for sending mail only).
    When you can not receive your mail, there is something wrong with your POP3 settings (or IMAP settings, if your account is of this type).

    It was a known issue at the time of launch. There was a recent over-the-air update that addressed at least one Exchange sync issue (now allows http:// in addition to https:// access), but I have not read about whether it resolves the IP Address issue.

  • How to setup e-mail account without deleting web mail server

    When I delete e-mail on i-phone, it delete web mail server mail also.
    I like to keep these web mail server mail.
    Like old i-phone 4 was not delete web mail server mail, even I delete i-phone mail.
    Please tell me how to set up e-mail on i-phone.
    Thank you

    I had things set up that way and it worked fine. However, last week on my iPhone, my bellsouth.com account kept coming up with "the POP server is not responding," but the account worked on my Macs and my iPad. I deleted the account and added it again. Now it seems to be an IMAP account (the POP server still does not respond). When I access the "advanced" tap in the setings, when I click "Deleted Mailbox" under "Mailbox Behaviors" it appears to show an option to leave mail in the server inbox but the word "Inbox" is in grey and not clickable. Has ATT changed its servers?

  • Mail server setup problems

    we are in the process of setting up a SL mail server and have pretty much everything running nicely, except mail.
    our setup is as follows:
    • previous email provider mx records are still active but have allocated higher priority to new server's mx record and according to the ISP those changes have since propagated;
    • billion router as dhcp server for a shared studio space/network (same subnet for a variety of parties - we know not good, but since we need to share printers, etc. the only easy way to do so!), allocating a static IP to our new server with all necessary ports forwarded as well;
    • DNS configured and running, does reverse lookups and added mail.example.com as A record;
    • webmail works, i.e. we can login with a test users credentials;
    we experience 2 problems:
    1. incoming emails to an activated account get rejected with a 550 error message, still indicating our previous mail providers nameservers;
    2. currently only SMTP seems to be working, i.e. we can send emails from external clients but strangely not from the server itself using mail.example.com (it does work using the servers internal IP address though);
    3. if we telnet into mail.example.com from outside the studio we get connected, but internally again this only works with the IP address;
    as we have trawled the net for some clues and unsuccessfully tried various things, we are beginning to wonder if something on the router is interfering.
    any help or thoughts much appreciated.
    ds.

    If you can't access your server using the domain name mail.example.com it sound to me like you have a dns problem.
    When you ping your server's mail.example.com from your internal network what ip are you getting?
    Are you getting a your server's internal ip or external ip?

  • Branch Office Mail Server?

    I have Mac OS X providing mail services to about 100 users at a main office. We are opening a branch office with 20-30 users. I'm wondering if it is possible to setup another mail server for the branch office using the same domain. The users at the branch office are moderately heavy users who will often deal with lots of attachments. I would like them to have an IMAP server that is local to them for better performance and to reduce traffic on the main office network.
    I thought I'd give it a try. There's a field called "Mail Server" on the mail tab of WGM for each user. I put the address of the branch office server in that field. However, the main office server keeps the messages in its own mailstore. So, what's this field for? It doesn't seem to do anything.
    I see a way to accomplish this by editing the postfix alias file for each user and adding a line for each branch office user like branchofficeuser: [email protected] but that wouldn't be so nice if I ever have to turn over administration of these servers to someone else.
    Is there any way to distribute mail for users of the same domain across more than one IMAP server without resorting to entering aliases to subdomains for each user?

  • Mail Server suddenly stopped working

    My mail server has stopped working, and I can't figure out why. This is a brand new MacMini with the latest Maverics Server (preinstalled) that I just setup last month. (We migrated from an Xserve running 10.6.) Up to this point, mail has worked flawlessly.
    This afternoon I used the Server app to create a new user. I then went about setting them up for ssh access and installing a public/private keypair (this is for a git repository). Around the same time, my mail server simply stopped working. As far as I know, no other configuration changes were made.
    When I go into the Mail service in the Server app the status perpetually says "Starting...". The 'postfix status' command says that postfix is not running. I've checked every log and error file, and I can only find three anomolies:
    The SMTP log file reports:
    Feb 11 01:31:06 mail.gloaming.com postfix/postmap[7152]: warning: /Library/Server/Mail/Data/scanner/amavis/local_domains.db: duplicate entry: "mail.gloaming.com"
    This warning has been logged before, several weeks earlier, so I assume it's not a serious problem.
    The other warning is:
    Feb 11 00:10:49 mail.gloaming.com postfix/postfix-script[23141]: warning: not owned by _postfix: /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta/./guid_device_maps.plist
    Other threads seem to indicate that this warning is benign.
    The only other problem that looks really suspicious (to me) is in the system.log:
    Feb 11 01:22:52 mail.gloaming.com ocspd[4947]: ERROR: unable to get the receiver data from the DB!
    I'm not sure what that means, but it doesn't sound good.
    Some threads point a finger at the virus and junk mail scanners. If I disable all mail filtering, the mail server status will finally change to "Serving mail at mail.gloaming.com". But it isn't. All attempts to get mail from the server are refused.
    (Oh, and I've restarted the server several times.)
    The postconf command tells me that the postfix system isn't accepting outside connections:
    inet_interfaces = loopback-only
    So it would appear that Server is setting this. Any attempt to change it back to "= all" fails, as the server software overwrites it with "= loopback-only" at its first possible opportunity. (Editing the main.cf file and reloading postfix doesn't fix it either.)
    Here's the really strange part. The server just started do this today. I recovered a backup of the main.cf file from yesterday and diffed it with the one that's not working:
    mail:postfix root# diff /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf /Users/admin/Desktop/main.cf
    675c675
    < inet_interfaces = loopback-only
    > inet_interfaces = all
    682c682
    < smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname reject_invalid_helo_hostname
    > smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_invalid_helo_hostname reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname
    692c692
    < mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com
    > mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com, $mydomain
    712d711
    < postscreen_dnsbl_sites = zen.spamhaus.org*2
    As you can see, the Server software has deliberatly started setting inet_interfaces to loopback-only and I can't figure out how to get it to set it back to "all".
    Some of the other threads have suggested "wipe and reinstall", but I've spent three weeks setting up this sever and shipping it to a co-location facility—starting over really isn't an option.
    I'd really just want to know why the Server software is suddently configuring the mail server so it won't receive any mail!

    The mystery continues.
    This morning, I decided to take a fresh look at what's going on by recovering a backup copy of my entire /Library/Server/Mail/Config directory from last month. Looking at the item capture list, it shows that none of the files in my Mail/Config directory have changed since late last month.
    Here are the disturbing changes.
    In Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/dovecot.conf, there is one different line.
    working:
         protocols = imap pop3 lmtp sieve
    now:
         protocols = lmtp sieve
    So clearly, the server doesn't think we should be running IMAP or POP. Which is probably the root of the problem.
    In Server/Mail/Config/postfix/mail.cf, there are a number of minor/cosmetic differences, but the problematic ones appear to be
    working:
         inet_interfaces = all
         mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com, $mydomain
    now:
         inet_interfaces = loopback-only
         mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com
    Again, this configuration would imply that there are no public mail services.
    Some other odd change occured in the Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf file
    working:
         smtpd     pass  -       -       n       -       -       smtpd
         pickup    fifo  n       -       n       60      1       pickup
              -o content_filter=smtp-amavis:[127.0.0.1]:10024
    now:
         smtpd     pass  -       -       n       -       -       smtpd
              -o receive_override_options=no_address_mappings
         pickup    fifo  n       -       n       60      1       pickup
              -o content_filter=
    Reading through some other posts, I also found another inexplicable change reported by other users having similar problems. The /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postfix.master.plist suddenly changed.
    working:
        <key>OnDemand</key>
        <false/>
        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>master</string>
            <string>-c</string>
            <string>/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix</string>
        </array>
    now:
        <key>OnDemand</key>
        <true/>
        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>master</string>
            <string>-c</string>
            <string>/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix</string>
            <string>-e</string>
            <string>60</string>
        </array>
    The postfix service is now "OnDemand" with a new, and myserious, "-e 60" option added. (I can find no documentation for an -e option in the postfix control tool.)
    Ultimately, I "fixed" the problem by restoring the backup copy of my entire /Library/Server/Mail/Config folder, the /System/Library/LaunchDaemon/org.postfix.master.plist file, and immedately restarting the server. The mail servers started and everything appears to be normal.
    But this whole experience has made me very learly of the Server app. Why did these configuration changes occur? What settings or circumstances caused them to spontaniously change to an, essentually, unusable state? I'm now afriad of making any changes via Server.app for fear it will decide I shouldn't have a working mail server again.
    If anyone has any insights, I'd ver very interested in hearing them.
