Mail stopped sending

Recently I've been creating New Messages in mail and when I hit send they message window disappears like normal, but it doesn't go to the outbox or send. It's just gone and I have to try and write it again. Also when this happens I have to Force Quit Mail and start all over. Any ideas? This only started recently.

It is possible that the Property List file (com.apple.Mail.plist) has become corrupted. The file stores details about the configuration of your email accounts and the settings you have in place.
A suggestion is to close Mail, move that file from the folder ~/Library/Preferences to the Desktop and then re-start Mail. You will have to re-create your email account(s) because Mail will behave as if it has never been setup before. Once you have re-created your primary email account Mail will pick up all the messages that you have stored locally and if you have other email accounts then re-create them via Mail Preferences (Add account).
If that fixes the problem you are having then you can Trash the com.apple.Mail.plist file you moved to the Desktop.

  • Two days ago Mail stopped sending my emails.

Two days ago Mail stopped sending my emails. I am using OS 10.10.2. Connection Doctor shows the connections as green. I can send from my iPhone in iOS, but from my Mack Book Pro, nothing sends. What changed? How do I fix this. I get an error message saying "The identity of smtp.cox.net cannot be verified. The certificate for this server is invalid. … When I ask it to connect anyway, or try the send again, I get a second message saying "Cannot send message using server smtp.cox.net… Authentication required."
Connection doctor says "Connection to server succeeded; login not required."
    How do I fix this?

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are several possible causes for it.
Back up all data, then take each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & Time
Select the Time Zone tab in the preference pane that opens and check that the time zone matches your location. Then select the Date & Time tab. Check that the data and time shown (including the year) are correct, and correct them if not.
    Check the box marked
              Set date and time automatically
if it's not already checked, and select one of the Apple time servers from the menu next to it.
    Step 2
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
If the problem is not reproducible in safe mode, then it's caused by third-party "anti-virus" or "security" software. If you know what that software is, remove it as directed by the developer after backing up all data. If you don't know what it is, ask for instructions.
    Step 3
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemCACertificates.keychain
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open. The dialog should show "You can only read" in the Sharing & Permissions section.
    Repeat with this line:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
If instead of the Info dialog, you get a message that either file can't be found, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it by pressing command-V. Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 4
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the upper left corner of the window, you should see a list headed Keychains. If not, click the button in the lower left corner that looks like a triangle inside a square.
In the Keychains list, there should be items named System and System Roots. If not, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain
from the menu bar and add the following items:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
Open the View menu in the menu bar. If one of the items in the menu is
              Show Expired Certificates
select it. Otherwise it will show
              Hide Expired Certificates
    which is what you want.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them has a blue-and-white plus sign or a red "X" in the icon, double-click it. An inspection window will open. Click the disclosure triangle labeled Trust to disclose the trust settings for the certificate. From the menu labeled
              Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    select
              no value specified
Close the inspection window. You'll be prompted for your administrator password to update the settings.
Now open the same inspection window again, and select
When using this certificate: Use System Defaults
Save the change in the same way as before.
Revert all the certificates with non-default trust settings. Never again change any of those settings.
    Step 5
Select My Certificates from the Category list. From the list of certificates shown, delete any that are marked with a red X as expired or invalid.
Export all remaining certificates, delete them from the keychain, and reimport. For instructions, select
              Help ▹ Keychain Access Help
from the menu bar and search for the term "export" in the help window. Export each certificate as an individual file; don't combine them into one big file.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Step 7
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    /var/db/crls
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "crls" should open. Move all the files in that folder to the Trash. You’ll be prompted for your administrator login password.
Restart the computer, empty the Trash, and test.
    Step 8
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open -e /etc/hosts
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in the same way you launched Keychain Access.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window should open. At the top of the window, you should see this:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1                              localhost
    255.255.255.255          broadcasthost
    ::1                                        localhost
If that's not what you see, post the contents of the window.

  • Mac Mail stops sending Mail

Ok so this problem is intermittent, but for the last few days its been constant. I'll be going through emails replying, then when i highlight an email all of a sudden it wont mark as read until i click it a second time. From then on all replys i send just dont happen, they dont get marked as replied to, it doesent say outgoing mail and when i search no mail has been sent. Shortly after that Mail will crash so ill force quit. I;ll re open mail and reply to the emails that wouldent respond and it will work as usual until another 15 emails later then itll all happend again. Its really frutrating me now as i cant get on with ANY work.

I re-booted and it went away... for now.  Will get back to you when it happens again so I can describe it.

  • Mail stopped sending or receiving mail on some accounts since update

Since update two of my mail boxes can't send or receive email.  I can't see where settings have changed.  Anyone else having the same problem?

You changed but did not delete and recreate the
    account?
I deleted the account details using the Edit server function in the account window
I have since then again put in my ISP details, account name & password and email address. I then received a single mail sent Jan 5th as a test. My other mails are still in the Webmail.
I tried to send a mail but it gave me the message "Cannot send the message using the server smtp.africa-online.net" It then advises that I use the pop up menu to select a different server. And in that pop up is the server smtp.mac.com:(then my account name).
This is the server I just thought that I had deleted with the Edit function??
If so, changing all account settings probably
affected the account named folder at Home > Library >
Mail which stores all account mailboxes.
The account named folder for each account is named by
the user name and incoming mail server for the
account. If you have two account named folders with
similar/slightly different names, this is the reason
the messages are missing. If so, the missing messages
are probably in one of the account named folders.
Found my old Inbox messages about 2 days ago on this method, I forget now where they were but it was in the Home~Library~mail folder.
There are currently 2 addresses in there. One which we set up 3 days ago to check messages on a new mail address africa-online and the other which is a bad spelling of my normal address but with a comma not a dot before the net. Should I trash these?
.Mac account information is stored at System
Preferences > .Mac under the Account tab. When
targeting the Mail.app preference file, the .Mac
email account information is recreated automatically
Mail with the information gathered from System
    Preferences.
Had a look in there and I am not a paid up .mac member so did not get far and do not have Mail priviliges anyway.
    hope you are still there!

  • Why has mail stopped sending?

I cannot send mail either by iMac, powerbook or iPhone. Why should this suddenly happen?

Are you on iCloud at all? There are some ongoing service issues: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/

  • G4-Tiger -When I use OS Classic, Mac mail stops sending  mail.

My G4 Flatscreen has latest tiger, and latest mac mail, but
when mail is open and I open classic and macwrite pro to get old documents, mail will not allow me to send or reply to email. it receives incoming mail fine. The Reply button just barely blinks, and the new mail button does nothing.
3 trips to Apple Genius Bar only told me that the "genius" are only good at IPod repair for teenieboppers. They had no clue. I dragged in the G4, and after an hour they gave up.
The only fix, after running all the fix programs, and archieve and install was a total erase and reinstall of Tiger and hence Mail. Now I am stuck, how do I get old documents that AW6 will not recognize, and Text Edit butchers so badly that it is useless. I have had to wipe hard drive 4 times in 5 weeks. this is getting very old.
    [email protected]

I think that you give less credit to 'most users' than they deserve. Speaking in generality confuses people and provides them little or no information. It also makes it appear that the person making the statement has no solid information and is merely "hand waving".
Although 'most users' may not understand the technical details they don't want to be talked down to. They would rather be given the information and then digest it at their own rate. Saying that almost anything can cause interference with your wireless network will cause a lot of misunderstandings.
I looked at the sites that you have in your post and they have a lot of detail especially compared to the statement I questioned.
Let's examine your original statement:Almost anything that emits a signal and or using High or Low Frequency signals can possibly affect your Network if the conditions are right. Now, let's say that there are 2 people talking face-to-face. They are emitting a signal. As they talk they use both high and low frequencies. Their conversation will not affect the performance of your wireless network.
That statement can certainly cause fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) in those less technical that are using or contemplating a wireless network.
Last but not least, In my opinion there are ton's of users that decide they want wireless technology, without doing no more than plugging in and expecting it to work without doing any homework on the pro's and con's of the technology and the use of the same.
Sure, I agree with that. I don't think that has anything to do with this discussion though.

  • Mail suddenly stops sending out messages.

I use Mail with Snow Leopard. I have 3 email accounts: U-verse, MobileMe and godaddy.com. Up until last week everything worked just fine. Then Mail stopped sending out messages on all three servers. They just sit in the Outbox. I can receive messages OK. I can go online and use the associated webmail sites. Connection Doctor gives me green dots on all accounts. Have not changed any settings although I did confirm they are configured properly. What the heck is going on?

That means nothing is wrong with Mail itself. The problem lies in your data. Mail is a very complex application with a lot of files. Rather than going through a long diagnostic process, I suggest you make a record of all your account settings, quit Mail, move your Library/Mail folder to the Desktop, delete the file Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from your home folder, and start over with a clean slate. Set up your accounts as if for the first time, test, and if all seems well you can restore your messages either from Time Machine, if you use it, or by importing them from the old Mail folder (File > Import Mailboxes...). It will take some work, but I don't know of an easier way. Make sure you have backups of everything before you start.
If you do use Time Machine, you have the option of restoring all the Mail files from a snapshot that predates the issue, but then you'll also have to find and restore the messages created since that time.

  • Mail has stopped sending

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1. I use an IMAP account to send and receive email. It's been running perfect for over a year.
Then yesterday, and for no reason, mail stopped sending and goes straight into the outbox after this error message:
"A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed".
The thing is I haven't changed any mail account preferences, SMTP, Passwords or anything. Furthermore the exact same mail account settings on my MacBook Pro work just fine. I can send and receive perfectly.
    Anybody have any clues?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Thanks again ckuan.
My outgoing mail server is the same. Password is the same.
Problem still here this morning. Every time I send an email it won't send. Gets sent (with error message above) straight into the outbox.
Just to note. I can recieve email into this account fine.
I contacted my service provider to check all setting are correct. They are.
I'm totally at a loss as to:
    A) Why it just suddenly stopped working despite me not changeing any mail account settings
    B) What I can do to fix it. My iPhone is no use unless I can send business emails

  • My IPhone 5s has stopped sending e-mails suddenly.

Yesterday afternoon my iPhone stopped sending my e-mails via aol. I can receive but not send. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the e-mail account, I have reviewed the sending server as suggested by some other support pages. I am at a lost as to why and need some help, this is also affecting my iPad. Thanks in advance

Check first whether the you can send emails using web (Either on Safari App or try it on a computer)
If it doesn't work in webmail ,there might be an issue with the email account.
If its working , you can try adding the account to outlook on your computer and then sync the Email settings thru iTunes.
If its a windows computer which you are using you'll get Info tab in your device page.
Click on Info and then select Sync Mail and then Apply.

  • Mail Stops Responding While Sending Messages

Mail has been freezing on me a lot lately when I am sending a message. I tried to find a pattern, and it seems the problem is multi-tasking. Since I have Activity Viewer open all the time, I can see what Mail is doing. If I send an e-mail and try to do something else in Mail before the message is sent (as shown in Activity Viewer), then Mail stops responding. This something else could be opening the original message, opening a different message, deleting a message, filing a message, viewing a different folder, etc.
Does anyone know why this happens and if there is anything I can do?

I am seeing the same issue just as you described. Have you managed to find a solution? It just seems to be a recent problem.

  • Apex Mail Queue stopped sending

Suddenly the APEX mail queue on our production server has stopped sending emails. We have logged into the internal workspace as ADMIN and can see the emails in the queue. There are no errors against them. We've tried both using the "Send all mails" button and also apex_mail.push_queue() from sqlplus but neither has worked - the emails are just backed up. There are no emails in the sent log with errors.
The configuration is no different from our development server (ie, same SMTP server, same setup within APEX) and that works fine. We haven't made any changes to anything, it just randomly stopped working the other day.
We have tried using UTL_SMTP on the prod server and that works fine, so it looks like it's something APEX specific.
Can anyone offer any advice or help before I raise this as an SR?
    Thanks,
    John

You should run this query as DBA to see ORACLE_APEX_MAIL_QUEUE job run details.
This job should run for every 5 min or 3 min depending on your apex version. See the latest run date.
When you run apex_mail.push_queue; then, it should do the same task what above job does. Pushing the queue didn't help you. So I suggest to raise a SR with Oracle Support.

    Hari

  • Why has my mac mails suddenly stopped sending email

I have a new mac air--not even 6 months old.  My mac mail has had the same address for almost 10 years.  In the last year my mac mail will suddenly stop sending.  The last time I talked to mac support they said there was a definite problem and when the new update was installed with the fix, it would start working again--it did, a few weeks ago.   Today...it stopped sending again. WHY?

How are you trying to read them? What process are you using and what applications are involved?

  • It stopped sending mail and moving messages between folders, junk messages stopped being moved.

Recently, Thunderbird stopped sending mail and moving messages between folders, junk messages stopped being moved.

Further notes (different user, same problem):
    * This is a problem that started in Thunderbird 32
    * This involves both automatic (filter) moves and manual moves
    * This includes use of keys and hotkeys (the delete key, for example)
    * Restarting Thunderbird does seem to "reset" the problem... for a while. I notice the problem most when either I've been away from the computer/program for a while or when waking a laptop computer from a sleep or hibernation state.

  • Stopped send crashes mail

This is making me crazy. I stopped a message that was being send via the "X" button in the bottom left corner of the mail screen, the 'mail activity' window. This was going through .Mac. Was that a mistake.
It is now apparently stuck in some loop somewhere because every time I log on to mail, it won't get emails from the .mac account and just keeps spinning, I get a "warning: message delayed 72 hours" message that keeps popping up in my 'drafts' folder and a message flashed up every five minutes or so that says port 993 timed out and it's taking .mac off line... until it crashes.
I can find nothing in mailboxes either on this box or on .MAC that this is connected to. I do not have this problem on another box I have at school, so I'm guessing it's not .MAC but this box.
But I have no clue how to find this message and throw it away so it will a) stopping sending me these nondelivery messages and b) stop crashing the app.
If any of you guys know, let me know.

I can't send or receive any mails.
    I am using
iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 Patch 1 (built Aug 19 2002)
    libimta.so 5.2 Patch 1 (built 23:25:07, Aug 19 2002)
    SunOS util01 5.9 Generic_112233-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
if i send mail to my same address on the same box it works fine but if i try to send mail to yahoo account it dont work(i dont receive mail on yahoo account) or if i send mail from yahoo account to my messaging server i dont receive it nor i get any bounce mail.
On top of that i am running 2 mail servers on same domain with 2 MX records say :
    domain.com (With MX record - level -1)
    a.mydomain.com(With MX record - level -2)
if i send mail from [email protected] to [email protected] it doesnt go to destination & that mail is totally lost.
is there any posibility that if i send mail from my yahoo account to [email protected] it first checks under domain.com (Because we have specified level -1 for domain.com) & then it just stays over there. Is there any way we can set rule that if [email protected] is not there then try to pass it to [email protected]
Please let me know your suggestions.
    Thanks
    Rajeev
