Mail stops updating

I have a new issue with Mail where it stops updating. I have it set up with my Gmail via IMAP and have it set to check for new mail every minute. I do not have any input managers installed for Mail.
I will often get new mail and Mail won't notify me. I can see it at the Gmail website, but it won't show up in Mail. Right clicking on the dock icon and picking "Get new mail" does not work, nor does right clicking in mail and picking "Synchronize Gmail". No errors appear and Mail plays the "no new messages" beep.
However, relaunching mail will fix the problem, but only temporarily. So, it shows the inbox as empty, but if I relaunch mail, it will get the new mail and synchronize fine. This tells me that my account information is entered correctly because Mail can connect, it just stops working occasionally until I relaunch it. This is an annoyance because I can't rely on it to tell me if I have new mail.
Anyone else have this problem or have any help for me? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

I don’t know how to solve your problem, but telling
Mail to go offline, then online again (Mailbox >
Go Online/Offline) might also work and you may
find it more convenient -- you can put a button in
the toolbar for that.
That seems to do the trick, and it's definitely a lot easier than shutting down Mail. Thanks for the tip!

  • This morning, for some reason, my yahoo inbox stopped updating and is frozen. I can send a new email but can receive any emails. Help!

THis morning my yahoo mail stopped updating at 8:32. I turned my iPad off and on nothing. I deleted my email and then load d it again nothing. Looking for other suggestions. But my email works just fine on my iPhone.

Thank you for the reply! However, I have already tried deleting my Yahoo account and then adding it back. All that served to do was delete everything!

  • E-mail accts have stopped updating

As of lastTuesday (09/25) e-mail accts have stopped updating and have a continous "updating" comment

    Hi Jim,
Start with checking the services to see if tyhe SBO mailer is running. If yes check the definition of the alerts so that they are still defined to send email. ALso chech the outbox in B1 to see if there are mails not sent.
Further, check with your IT guys that the name or IP of the SMTP server has not changed.
    I hope it helps,

  • My E-mail won't stop updating itself?

Hi, as I said above the E-mail hasn't been able to stop updating itself and it's depleting my battery quicker than usual. I've tried turning off the push option and turned the iPhone off and on several times. It still does the updating on its own. Is this just a bug or is there a problem? Would also appriciate some tips or advise. Thanks in advance.

  • Mail rss feed has stopped updating

my RSS feed in Mail has stopped updating. The last updates were on August 10. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Same here for a couple of weeks now. Only thing that helps is restarting mail. As seen from all the complaints here, it is a random problem and is continuing for some time now. And i think there will be no help from Apple since they have decided in there wisdom to drop the RSS feeds in the mail app all together from the newer OSX versions. I'm on OSX 10.6.8.

  • Mail has completely stopped updating RSS feeds

I have numerous RSS feeds subscribed to in Mail, and they have all stopped updating (for several days now).
Trying to manually tell them to update does nothing. Also, if I try and add new feeds, it doesn't even grab the articles in the new feeds.
Anyone know how to reset this?

Unfortunately I don't have a great answer for you.
Once I found the folder inside the root level Library/Syndication. Another time I found it inside Users/Library/Syndication. When I had the problem, I trashed this folder, then relaunched Mail.
I still have the problem once in a while, and either Syndication folder has not been re-created. When it happens, I quit and relaunch Mail, and it seems to clear it up.
It's really a pain in the neck. I don't know what's causing it. I don't know what else to suggest if you've already trashed both/either Syndication folders and then quit and restarted Mail.

  • Mail RSS Feeds Stopped Updating

    Hi there,
In the past week, I've noticed that my Mail RSS feeds have stopped updating and I'm also unable to open/subscribe to new RSS feeds.
When I try to click on a new RSS feed in Safari, I get the following error message:
Safari can’t open the page “feed://www.vanilladays.com/feed/”. The error was: “Operation could not be completed. (Mach error 268435460 - (ipc/send) timed out)” (NSMachErrorDomain:268435460) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
In parallel to this, I've noticed that Safari is is also taking around 5 minutes to load (the is normal once loaded). I've got a separate topic about this.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? I was having these problems before I updated OSX yesterday.
    Thanks for any help,
    Ste

i was able to find this on another website...
CXL: Safari fails to display RSS feeds when CPU is under load or free disk space on system drive is small. That pretty much sums it up. It's annoying, too, because if Time Machine is doing its hourly backup or I'm converting video files, Safari's RSS display repeatedly fails with the same error message: "Mach errore 268451843 - (ipc/rcv) timed out" or "NSMachErrorDomain:268451843". Under the same conditions, Safari fetches and displays normal webpages perfectly fine. Filed: 5610533.
but this doesn't make sense, I have about 4.5 GB free on my startup drive....
i also found this apple thread which is about the same issue, but also has no resolution..

if anyone figures anything out please help! thank you!

  • Mail stopped working

I have had this iTouch for 10 days now. I have version 2.0.2(5C1) and everything was working perfectly until I connected the iTouch to my Mac Powerbook today. Then, Mail stopped working altogether. Send or Receive is not working. I just see a "Checking for Mail..." sign at the bottom of the screen when I go into an Inbox (gmail, me or company email). All other apps seem to be working fine.
Any suggestions (other than to throw this wonderful POS out?) I actually do mean "wonderful" because I did love this until today. Maybe the "Mobile me" is screwing this up....thoughts?

    Hi CInglez ,
Do you care to share what the solution was? I thought when you ask a question on forum and hope that people reply, should'nt you update if you have resolved the problem.
Anyway, you are not obliged to anyway.
Just wanted to update that i was facing the similar issues.
    OCS version: 10.1.2.4
    OS: SuSE 9 Update 3
Issues: Could not telnet on OCS server localhost on port 25, even though the listener_es and all email processes were running.
Solution: set the stack size to 512
Step by step instructions to resolve:
1.logon to the terminal running ocs apps server as oracle user
    2. run ulimit -a and you will find that stack size is set to unlimited (assuming you have it to default)
    3. set stack size to 512, by running the following command:
    ulimit -s 512
    4. run ulimit -a and ensure the value for stack size has changed.
    5. from that same session run: $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall
    5. Now start all the process from that same session: $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
This has resolved the issue for me, to set this parameter permanently please follow the metalink note # 395083.1
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Dipak

  • Emails stopped updating since 4 jan

    Hi
My emails using bt mail on my iPad suddenly stopped updating on 4 Jan. I cannot see new emails using bt mail but can send eMails. I can still see my old emails . However I can access my new incoming emails by using the yahoo service using their app.
I do not know why this has suddenly happened. Nothing changed on my iPad to explain this . I do not know if it is relevant but my email address ends in Talk 21.
Everything has been working extremely well until the 4 Jan and woke up to find that I was not receiving any new emails.
    Any ideas?

Any ideas my incoming emails on my iPad suddenly stopped on the 4 jan using bt mail account? Strangely I can still send emails but not receive. I had not changed or added anything to my iPad. I have since downloaded the yahoo mail app and can now access incoming emails via this. However I want to go back to the bt mail.
    The account info is:
    IMAP ACCOUNT INFORMATION
    Name xxxxxxx
    Email Xxxxxx@talk21
    Description Talk21
    Incoming mail server:
    Host name: mail.btinternet.com
    Username:[email protected]

If that is correct, try updating your system software. Click your Apple menu > Software Update.
And try "force quitting" using Activity Monitor (located in HD > Applications > Utilities) instead of Command + Option + E or force quit from the Apple menu.

  • Exchange mail in mac mail stopped working

I have been using a exchange IMAP mail on my mac mail for several years now. Recenty the volume of emails in my inbox was exceeding the size limit set by the administrator. I created seperate mailboxes on my mac to store old emails, which was working fine for sometime. However, all of a sudden one day, my mail stopped working correctly: The inbox is constantly thinking (the circiling bars are always circiling), it does not move emails to my offline mailboxes, it does not erase emails, it take at least 15 minutes to receive and/or send emails. I have tried to update the envelope index but no change. I have the same account on my ipad and iphone, and both work fine, only on my mac book (lion ISO) is it not working.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • I upgraded the software on my Time Capsule and outgoing mail stopped on my Mac Air

    Hi
I upgraded the software on my Time Capsule and outgoing mail stopped on my Mac Air
My colleagues are using my Time Capsule on their Mac Air (with Lion OS System) and Dell with MS OS System.
I am on OS X 10.6.8 and was sucessfully using SMTP for outgoing mail .... after my update for the Time Capsule, Mail on my Mac Air stopped
    Why?
    Thanks in advance
    Jan

    Hi Garmulewicz,
Can you tell us a little bit about the SMTP service? What port is it set to use? Authentication SMTP? Have you tried manually sending over Port 25, 587 or 465? If you bypass the Time Capsule can you confirm that SMTP traffic still works behind the same modem?
I've personally never seen an update break SMTP, that would imply that the update somehow is blocking the port where SMTP is occurring. What if you configure a personal GMail account or something else, does that work?

  • Two days ago Mail stopped sending my emails.

Two days ago Mail stopped sending my emails. I am using OS 10.10.2. Connection Doctor shows the connections as green. I can send from my iPhone in iOS, but from my Mack Book Pro, nothing sends. What changed? How do I fix this. I get an error message saying "The identity of smtp.cox.net cannot be verified. The certificate for this server is invalid. … When I ask it to connect anyway, or try the send again, I get a second message saying "Cannot send message using server smtp.cox.net… Authentication required."
Connection doctor says "Connection to server succeeded; login not required."
    How do I fix this?

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are several possible causes for it.
Back up all data, then take each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & Time
Select the Time Zone tab in the preference pane that opens and check that the time zone matches your location. Then select the Date & Time tab. Check that the data and time shown (including the year) are correct, and correct them if not.
    Check the box marked
              Set date and time automatically
if it's not already checked, and select one of the Apple time servers from the menu next to it.
    Step 2
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
If the problem is not reproducible in safe mode, then it's caused by third-party "anti-virus" or "security" software. If you know what that software is, remove it as directed by the developer after backing up all data. If you don't know what it is, ask for instructions.
    Step 3
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemCACertificates.keychain
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open. The dialog should show "You can only read" in the Sharing & Permissions section.
    Repeat with this line:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
If instead of the Info dialog, you get a message that either file can't be found, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it by pressing command-V. Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 4
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the upper left corner of the window, you should see a list headed Keychains. If not, click the button in the lower left corner that looks like a triangle inside a square.
In the Keychains list, there should be items named System and System Roots. If not, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain
from the menu bar and add the following items:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
Open the View menu in the menu bar. If one of the items in the menu is
              Show Expired Certificates
select it. Otherwise it will show
              Hide Expired Certificates
    which is what you want.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them has a blue-and-white plus sign or a red "X" in the icon, double-click it. An inspection window will open. Click the disclosure triangle labeled Trust to disclose the trust settings for the certificate. From the menu labeled
              Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    select
              no value specified
Close the inspection window. You'll be prompted for your administrator password to update the settings.
Now open the same inspection window again, and select
When using this certificate: Use System Defaults
Save the change in the same way as before.
Revert all the certificates with non-default trust settings. Never again change any of those settings.
    Step 5
Select My Certificates from the Category list. From the list of certificates shown, delete any that are marked with a red X as expired or invalid.
Export all remaining certificates, delete them from the keychain, and reimport. For instructions, select
              Help ▹ Keychain Access Help
from the menu bar and search for the term "export" in the help window. Export each certificate as an individual file; don't combine them into one big file.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Step 7
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    /var/db/crls
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "crls" should open. Move all the files in that folder to the Trash. You’ll be prompted for your administrator login password.
Restart the computer, empty the Trash, and test.
    Step 8
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open -e /etc/hosts
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in the same way you launched Keychain Access.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window should open. At the top of the window, you should see this:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1                              localhost
    255.255.255.255          broadcasthost
    ::1                                        localhost
If that's not what you see, post the contents of the window.
