Mail Upgrade message in Mavericks won't go away

Have upgraded from 10.8 to 10.9 Mavericks on my Macbook Pro, everything pretty much went fine, except for a problem with Mail.
Everytime I open it, I get the below screenshot, saying "Welcome to Mail. To use the new features in Mail, your Mail messages need to be downloaded to this computer...."
If I click continue, I get a "bing" sound and then my Mail opens up, but I get the same message each time I open Mail.
Annoying.

I don't get the message anymore by doing the following:
Try to repair disk permissions first.
If your mail is also on a server and provided that you have a backup of your rules, signatures, etc, you can try the following:
go to ~/Library/Mail
Delete all contents of the Mail folder. Don't delete the Mail folder.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Delete the file com.apple.mail.plist
The above actions will delete all local mail and reset the app completely! If you don't have a backup of your mail don't follow these actions!

  • Messages on Mavericks won't open after 10.9.2 upgrade

    Hi,
I upgraded to 10.9.2 this morning and now when I try tro open Messages I get the following Box.
"The last time you opened Messages, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?"
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks in advance
    Mavericks 10.9.2

I was able to solve it with help from a thread on the Microsoft help forum for Mac stuff.....hey, you never know where you'll get help, ehhh?    Here's the link,   http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macword/all-microsoft -office-for-mac-2011-programs-crash/70036380-1efc-4a8a-b99c-426f5bb0f925 if you read through it you see my last post that explains how I got it, but key steps include:
    1.  Do a proper un-install of Office.  It's not a no brainer, you need to follow this link  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768
    2.  Re-install Office, make sure at the end you activate automatic updates and it should go through an update to version 14.3.4.  Strange for me, I thought I had auto updates on before but for some reason my Office version was an old one?  Anyway, regardless of your version, I would un-install first.
    3.  In Font Book in Applications, I was told to validate my Fonts, but there didn't seem to be a way to do this.  I was able to run "look for enabled duplicates" in the edit section, and I did that.
    4.  Run Disk Utility in the Utilities folder in applications, in First Aid you need to verify and then repair permissions.  Actually I had to run Disk Utility twice.....go figure?
    5.  Restart your Mac and perform a Safe Boot......here's the link.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    6.  I think I started Office in Safe Mode after the Mac started up....and it worked then.
    7.  Restart your Mac normally.  Run Office....
When I did this stuff, it worked.  So far so good.....
    good luck!

  • Mail-Red Badge in Dock won't go away...

    Hi all,
Small problem, yet annoying. Suddenly the red badge that is on the Mail icon in the dock persistently tells me I have one email, although I don't have any.
Don't waste your time asking if I am sure that I have checked all mailboxes... there is not a single unread email, yet that red 1 keeps taunting me.
I have already rebuilt each of my mailboxes, restarted the app, etc.... I have not tossed the prefs as of yet because I don't imagine this information would be stored there.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

make a smart mailbox with a single condition to show unread messages in any mailbox. see if it finds anything. also, in Mail preferences->general set "Dock unread count" to "inbox only".
If none of this helps try rebuilding the entire mail index. quit mail and eleted the file /users/username/library/mail/envelope index. start mail and let it import (this means reindex) your messages.

  • Norton Personal Firewall messages at startup won't go away

I used to have Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) installed on my G5 iMac. For some time now, whenever I start up, I get two messages related to NPF. The first one says that I have installed new system software and need to restart my computer. The second one says that NPF "cannot launch the kernel extension" and that "some features of NPF may not be enabled."
I have been just ignoring and closing both of these messages, but recently I have been doing a cleanup, deleting files I don't need any more, and when I recently upgraded my Norton Antivirus software, I decided that NPF was superfluous, since Mac OS Leopard (10.5.5) has its own firewall. I tried to use the Norton uninstaller to delete the program, but the uninstaller does not list NPF in its list of applications to uninstall. I have done a Spotlight search for any NPF-related files and have also deleted all my old System 9 folders. I'm still getting these messages, though. Has anyone else ever seen this problem, and do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Thank you very much, but this is an older version (1.0.2) of the Symantec Uninstaller that came with NAV (1.1.1). As I mentioned, when I open Uninstaller and it searches for installed applications, Norton Personal Firewall does not show up in the list. So I can't use the Uninstaller to uninstall NPF. But I appreciate your attempt to help me.
I wonder if somehow there are still some "residual" files remaining from NPF? If so, I have no idea how to find them, since they don't show up with a Spotlight search. Maybe it is something that is somehow embedded in the System?

  • Pop-up error message about USB won't go away?

I keep getting a pop-up message that says my USB device is drawing too much power from my Macbook Pro so it is disabling it, but I have nothing plugged in to my USB. Now I realize my sound isn't working at all...songs in iTunes won't even start. I've tried shutting it down but that didn't work. Any ideas?

When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.

  • Sstem preferences - Network - this message pop up won't go away

This is an Airport card I installed in the iMac G4, so I'm not sure if it's called Airport Express per se.
    Here's my issue:
I just connected to the internet via Airport Card. So when I go into System preferences, click 'Network', this drop down message that reads 'Your network settings have been changed by another application' keeps popping down. Even after I click 'OK', it just keeps coming & coming. So I can't get it to go away.
Here's what happened. Airport card is installed. Then, I turned on airport by clicking on the grey Airport icon on tool bar right hand side. Got it turned on. I also click 'Open Internet Connect' to check status. Does this have anything to do with the annoying pop down message? Now I can't get into System preferences, Network pane at all.
Also, how do I go about setting a password to prevent something from using my wireless connection. I noticed that when I click the Airport icon, other wireless networks also show up.
I could get on some other network, but for others, a window pops up with 'Wireless Security: WPA Personal, and asks for password. How do I get my wireless network to do the same?
    Thanks.

suggests going from the top level of your main disk to /Library/Preferences, then moving the folder SystemComfiguration out of there (perhaps to the Desktop for temporary storage until you want to delete it). Reboot your Mac, then redeclare your network preferences and see if things work better.

I've been printing from iPad to HP Envy with non-HP cartridges for years with no problems. Now the "non-HP cartridges installed" error message on printer won't go away when I hit OK.  iPad reads this as "printer is out of  ink."  Rebooting didn't help.

Try to force quit the mail app
Double tap the home button. When you see the app previews on the screen scroll sideways if needed to get the preview in question on the screen. Flick that preview up and off the screen to close the app. Single tap the home button or home screen preview to exit the mode.
Failing that, go into the settings, mail, contacts and calendars and remove your account info then put it back in and see if that works

  • Lost saved mail messages after upgrading to OSX Mavericks

I rencently noticed that after upgrading to OSX Mavericks I have lost all of my saved messages from before that date, messages mainly from my gmail account that is syncing with Mail. I have also noticed that the same messages are now missing when I log into Gmail and look for them there.

    HI,
I also use IMAP and the "folders" I create in the Mail App are actually created on the IMAP server.
My Mail side bar looks like this:-
Between the INboxes and the Google folders are the Smart Mailboxes (Today)  and the On My Mac line which is current closed/hidden.
I have a bunch more folder that are On My Mac in here.
I went the Google Mail Web page the other day and was informed that there was a New Inbox.
I also received an email about it.
It appeared to happen just as I logged in to Google.
I not sure it this was coincidence or the trigger.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Since upgrade to iOS 7 Email error on over 100KB emails "Cannot Send Mail  The message was rejected by the server because it is too large." Connecting to Exchange via Activesync

    Hi,
Following the upgrade to iOS 7.0.3 on all our iPhone and iPad devices, it has been identified that when sending emails around 100KB in size and over an error message appears on the device stating “Cannot Send Mail  The message was rejected by the server because it is too large.” See error message below. The send/receive limit is over 10MB so this is not the issue.
We are in an Exchange Environment using Microsoft Activesync. This issue is not evident in iOS 6. This has been tested on an iPhone 3GS running version iOS 6.1.3. We have been unable to repeat the issues seen on iOS 7 on the older OS. It is not possible to roll back to the older operating system as Apple are no longer signing the software.
We use Microsoft Active Sync to connect to our Exchange servers through a TMG. The issue is very inconsistent, some identical emails go through, some fail. This is not an issue with the send/receive limit as this is over 10MB. The error message when it fails on the TMG is Status: 413 Request Entity Too Large, which we believe is from IIS on the CAS server.
Does anyone have any suggest course of actions to take?
    Many Thanks

This resolution have to attend at the server not with the ios device. My employer's mail administrator reject me to correct it from the server. As his concern is, if ither ios devices works why don't mine? So I am helpless than changing my iphone. It works fine for early versions of ios and with androids. And also one of my friends iphone4 with ios 7 (similar as mine) works too. So I guess it's something wrong with my iPhones settings. But basic question I cannot understand is it works in my phone before this ios7 upgrading. And currently working with my yahoo account too. Favourable reply expected.
