MailServer anomolies

Hi.
I would appreciate any useful comments regarding the following anomolies
During a weekly examination of mail services i notice that there are many connections opened and being maintained to the mailserver port 25 also some being maintained to port 993 used by users to access their mail.
Further examination revealed that a large number of fileperms have been altered.
Any helpful comments or suggestions relating to possibilities would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

  • I need a mail server without SMTP authentification. Which is the right one? Or how to configure OSX Lions Mailserver?

    Hello folks,
our HP Scanner with email delivery is one the most used pieces of hardware in our office. Just scan and get delivered to your inbox. That works easy and perfect.
Unfortunately we had to change our standard mail server and now a prerequsisite is the smtp authentification. But the HP admin interface on the scanner does not allow to enter smtp auth credentials. It only supports smtp delivery without username/password. Now I have a serious problem. I cannot find any external provider that supports smtp mail delivery without smtp authentification (against spam of course, I understand that).
I have a OSX Lion Server running as a file server in our network. But I have no clue if there's a way to use it's mailserver without smtp auth.
Is there anyone who can help me out?
    Cheers,
    Joo-Chen

    Sure. Turn it on.
The default mode is to not require authentication. You have to turn on authentication if you want it.
Changing authentication on/off is a matter of clicking a radio button.

  • There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site "Mailserver"

    Good day Guys
First of all I am not an Exchange Expert, and I might be asking a very stupid question, but please bare with me. :)
While I was on leave our Mail server fell over and The company got a Specialist to help out for the time being.
We where\are on Microsoft Exchange 2007 , which Fell over, and the specialist was able to recover as much data as he could.
They then installed Exchange 2013 and tried to migrate everything from 2007 to 2013 and not everything migrated over.
But the problem is, Outlook Anywhere was enable on 2007 and worked a 100% (before the disaster)
With Exchange 2013 I get the following error message when trying to connect With Outlook 2013, using an external connection:
"There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site "Mailserver"
Outlook is unable to connect to the Proxy server. (Error Code 0)"
Has anyone had the Similar when migrating over from 2007 to 2013 or is this an Issue on IIS and nothing to do with Exchange migration?
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Firstly, I would suggest we use Exchange 2013 FE as the Outlook Anywhere proxy server.
For the certificate issue, it mostly occurs because the host name that Outlook are trying to access does not match the certificate SAN. Please check with this point. If they do not match, you
can change the host name by referring to the following article:

  • XI3.0 MailAdapter: Problem with receiving mails from Mailserver

    Hi all,
I tried to set up a scenario using the mail adapter as the sender and the file adapter as the receiver.
The problem is that the mailadapter logs in into the mailserver but then it stops working with an error.
Here is my setup of the MailSenderChannel:
    Transport Protocol: IMAP4
    Message Protocol: XIPAYLOAD
    Adapter Engine: Integration Server
    URL: IMAP://mailservername
    User: ****
    Password: ****
Mailattributes: Use Mail Package & Keep Attachments is checked
Namespace and Interfacename is also filled in.
The Error Message is as follows:
    #1.5#000255AF6C53005500000BC8001010520003E93BC7109362#1100867882226

    #com.sap.aii.messaging.srt.xmb.XMBIMAPInitiatorServiceImpl#Plain##
#exception caught during processing mail message; java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException:
String index out of range: -1#
I guess this message came up because my interface definition is wrong. How does the Datastructure for an incoming mail look like? I just defined one field as string to keep the whole email message. Does this work or do I need to have some kind of standard xsd for mail?
    Thanks in advance!
    /Michael

  • Changing Mailserver Name Issues?

I have an older server doing both email and web and I plan to split the services across a couple of boxes and limit this box to just doing email. So far it has used the same domain name like foo.bar.com for both the address of the email and webservers. I have arranged to get foomail.bar.com working and pointed at the same box and I have the SSL cert creating and working. It's my plan to notify the users of the change and push out the new certificate and eventually change foo.bar.com to point to the webserver box instead.
What's the easiest way to make this transition while my users will be using and mix of both names? Can I change the mailserver setting to foomail right away and make foo a virtual server or vice-versa? Is there a better way?
    Any input appreciated,
    =Tod

I have to admit that is my first inclination - although experience tells me that the frequency of emails to users seems to have little effect on their awareness of these things. Unfortunately the main reason we run our own mailserver is because some of our least technically proficient users have been on some version of our mailserver literally for years. So I was hoping to make the change via a virtual server at first to give everyone time to try it out and handhold our problem users through the process.
The other issue is that we are in an environment where the DNS is handled by other powers that be which makes timing an exact change-over a little more difficult. (But the trade-off is that they are very good and I don't have to worry about DNS.)
Switching gears a little is there any easy way to direct any emails that might go to the new server under the old name short of doing the email forwarding thing for every account? Users are supposed to use @bar.com but some still sometimes use (or have used) @foo.bar.com and when the mailserver becomes @foomail.bar.com I'm sure some mail will still go to the new @foo.bar.com which will no longer be a mailserver.
Obviously I could run mail and do a vacation message warning system but is there a way to set-up forwarding or redirecting without setting up all the user accounts from the current server?
    Thanks,
    =Tod

  • Mailserver communication channel polling twice

Hi, we are using a mailserver communication channel. When an order is sent, it is received in the R3 system twice.
Upon investigation, we have noticed that the system is connecting twice to the mailserver.
Does anybody know any solution on why this is happening?

    Hi Seshu,
this is because system had a lack of resources or some threads were blocking
the XI adapter engine from working properly. Therefore,
    - Please check if MaxThreadCount parameter is set to 350 in the Visual
    Administrator, as per steps below:
    1. In the left frame choose Server -> Services -> Configuration Adapter
    2. In the tab Display Configuration (right frame) choose Switch
between view and edit mode to activate the edit mode.
    3. Choose cluster_data -> server -> cfg -> kernel -> Propertysheet
    ApplicationThreadManager
    4. Choose Show the detail of the selected node
    5. The parameter MaxThreadCount must be set to 350.
    6. Restart the J2EE after changing the value.
For more information, please refer to the note #937159 - XI Adapter
    Engine is stuck
    - Please increase the consumer threads for the related adapter
    according to the note below.
    #1084161 - Performance decrease after applying XI 3.0 SP20 7.0SPS12
In order to check this parameter, go to the Config Tool
    -> server
    -> services
    -> com.sap.aii.af.svc service
    -> messaging.connectionDefinition
-> add the template below for the required adapter type (maintain the
global and add the template separated by a comma). The example below
    is for the File adapter.

  • Moving Mailserver from Xserve G4 to intel, Best practice?, Recommendations?

    Hi!
I will receive a new Xserve intel soon and possibly want to move mail services from the currently used Xserve G4 (which is working fine) to the new Xserve intel.
The Xserve G4 is running a heavily modified mail setup thanks to pterobyte's excellent tutorials on fixing, updating, extending, dare I say "pimping" Mac OS X Server's mailserver setup.
What I want to achieve in the long run:
Have Mail services run on the Xserve intel and have the Xserve G4 work as a mailbackup. (They will be connected via permanent VPN, but be in different LANs on different ISPs). They shall be serving email for at least three distinct domains then. (All low volume. currently the G4 is serving a single domain using WGM aliases.) I want (and need) to switch to postfix aliases.
    What I need to consider:
My client desperately wants/needs to update to Leopard server once it becomes available. Both Xserve definitely will be upgraded to Leopard Server then.
Time is not an issue at the moment as the G4 is working very well. I want to keep the work at a minimum in regard to the Leopard switch. I am fine with an interim solution, even if it is somewhat inelegant, as long as it runs fine. The additional domains are not urgent at the moment. It will be fine when they transfer to the intel Xserve once we run Leopard.
    Questions:
Does it pay to do all the work moving from the G4 to the intel (I'd need to compile and configure all the SpamAssassin, ClamAV, Amavisd-New, etc. again...) move all the Mailboxes, Users, IMAP and SMTP. In regard that there will be a clean install once Leopard comes out. (I am definitely no fan of Updating a Mac OS X server. Experience has proven to me that this does not work reliably.)
Are there any recommendations or best practice hints from your experience when moving a server from PPC to intel?
    Thanks in advance
    MacLemon

By all means do a clean install. If time is not an issue, make sure Leopard has been on the market 2-3 months before you do so.
Here is what I would do:
    1. Clean install of Intel Server
    2. Update all components
    3. Copy all needed configuration files from PPC to Intel Server
    4. Backup PPC mail server with mailbfr
    5. Restore mail backup with mailbfr to Intel Server
This is all that needs to be done.
If you want to keep the G4 as a backup server, just configure it as a secondary MX in case your primary is down. Trying to keep mailboxes redundant is only possible in a cluster and a massive pain to configure (Leopard should change that though).

  • Suddenly strange new folder in Mailserver

    Hello everybody,
I'm having a problem with my mailserver.
Until a couple of days, the structure of my mailserver-folder looked like this:
    MAILSERVER/imap/stage.
    MAILSERVER/imap/sync.
    MAILSERVER/imap/user
Then suddenly, a new folder appeared:
    MAILSERVER/imap/^_-john^doe
    with those 3 files:
    MAILSERVER/imap/^_-john^doe/cyrus.cache
    MAILSERVER/imap/^_-john^doe/cyrus.header
    MAILSERVER/imap/^_-john^doe/cyrus.index
I checked the dated and it seems like the folder was created at 3:23 am on a friday night, when I wasn't arround. Apart from me, nobody has access to the server (at least I hope not
Does anybody have a clue how that could have happened? Can I just delete this folder?

This is due to an error in /etc/postfix/main.cf
    Make sure that
    localrecipientmaps =
is not empty. If it is empty, either remove it altogether (this will set it to default values) or change it to:
    localrecipientmaps = proxy:unix:passwd.byname $alias_maps
This will make sure the problem does not repeat.
To get rid of the existing folders, use SirAdmin. Do not simply delete them as it will break your IMAP database.
    HTH,
    Alex

  • Mailserver on subdomain?

After som serious head scratching I've gotten a mailserver up and running.
The software I've chosen is postfix and dovecot.
It works fine and I can send and recive mail without problems. I do have one question. How do I make the servers listen on mail.domain.com instead of domain.com as it is now. I want the e-mail address to be [email protected] but the servers to be mail.domain.com
Could someone give me any hints on how to decipher the config files and MX-records?

You should have no problem with postfix accepting mail for both domain.com and mail.domain.com, providing mail.domain.com is your mailserver's name.  If it isn't, then you can also accept mail by hacking main.cf to accept mail for all kinds of domains.
check out the line in main.cf with mydestination in it:
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, $mydomain, mail.$mydomain, www.$mydomain, ftp.$mydomain.
For the MX record, your named zone file should look something like this one, assuming that you are using BIND:
    $ORIGIN .
    $TTL 86400 ; 1 day
    domain.com IN SOA server.domain.com. yourmailacct.domain.com. (
    46 ; serial
    10800 ; refresh (3 hours)
    900 ; retry (15 minutes)
    604800 ; expire (1 week)
    86400 ; minimum (1 day)
    NS server.domain.com.
    MX 10 mail.
    $ORIGIN domain.com.
    server A 192.168.1.1
    mail A 192.168.1.2
    $TTL 300 ; 5 minutes
be aware of the dots at the end of the domains.

  • Mailadapter, receive mails from mailserver: attachment?

    hello
i am receiving mails from the mailserver into xi with
    the mailadapter
this is nice as long as the message data is in the mail text
but we are receiving mails with the message as mail attachment
i couldn't find a parameter to map/access the attachment, i always get the payload which is the normal mail text
the only way i could find is creating an an abap proxy as the receiver and send the attachment back to xi as normal payload
but the receiver should be the idoc adapter

If the attachment is always the same, you can use the PayloadSwapBean (see note 794943) to get the attachment as main payload.
If not, you need to write an adapter module by your own, which figures out, what the right payload is.

  • Outgoing mailserver?

I have a strange issue with Mail using Lion.
I have two mail accounts.  A Mac.com address and a POP account.
At home I have Comcast cable and thus use a Comcast outgoing mailserver with the POP account.  Mac.com uses the Mac outgoing server.
Anytime I use Mail outside of my house (hotel, other persons house, ect) I have to send email using Mac.com account. That is fine.  When I get back home the Comcast outgoing mailserver does not send.  I get a message saying it's not a good outgoing server.
I then have to go into the Mail prefs and delete the existing Comcast outgoing server and create another one exactly like the one I deleted. I can even copy and paste the same server info and everything works fine.
Any idea what causes this or what the fix is.  Funny that the only time it happens is when I use my laptop in another place.

  • Good backup strategy for a mailserver?

    Hi,
What would be a good backup strategy for a mailserver and what software would you use. I've got Retrospect right now ...
    Thanks a lot.
    Jerome

Yeah, ptero, I know. I'm using mailbfr and it seems to work quite fine.
I didn't express myself clearly in this thread, I was in fact looking for the best way to backup a whole MacOS X Server whose primary function is being a mailserver.
I'm backing up the mailbfr via Retrospect on another server, and I'm using Carbon Copy Cloner from time to time to make an image of the whole server. But is that a good idea? I've got a neat program on my Windows servers which makes 'continuous' incremental images of the whole disk while the servers are being used. Is there anything like that for Mac? Or how do you back up the system configuration of your Mac servers?
But perhaps this is the wrong subforum to ask questions like this?
    Thanks alot anyway!

  • Read E-Mail Actionblock -Unable to read mail from Mailserver

    Hi,
As a part of business requirement I need to write a transaction which picks the attachment from a particular mail on a server on a scheduled basis.
I am getting the below error while trying to connect to the server
[INFO ]: ReadMail: Connecting To: xxxx.yyyy.mycompany.com
[ERROR]: ReadMail error: Connect failed; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect+
[ERROR]: ACTION FAILED: End Action ReadMail_0 :
But with the same credentials I am able to send mail from xMII using the Send mail action block. So this signifies that I am using the right MailServer name.
Is this the problem with the firewall with the server ? or
Will there be different MailServer name for receiving and reading mails?
How to know which port number to be used?
Did any one faced this problem before?
    Appreciate your help
    thanks

  • Getting the mailserver of a specific domain

    Hello,
does someone know how I can get the mailserver for lets say hotmail.com from a dns-server??
I can contact my dns server with a socket, but I don't know how to talk with this protocol to get any information from it. I want to ask it what the mailserver adress is for a specific domain.
    Please help me!!
    Thanks,

You need to retrieve the MX-records from the zone.
The MX-records are in fact the mailservers used to receive mail.
To make it simple you can use "DNS Package" from Sinotar.
It seems to be free for personal use.
