MainMenu

I was looking into an app called MainMenu. Can someone, in non-technical terms, please explain to me what the following mean/do and can running these tasks actually do more harm than good? Im not too savvy in these areas, so please remember, keep it as non-technical as you can. Sorry for the newb question.
-Repair Disk Permissions
-Update Prebindings

Repair Disk Permissions
This basically sets the permissions on the files and folders installed with Mac OS X to those stored in a database. It should only be done if you have a specific reason to use it.
Update Prebindings
This may speed up the rate that applications launch. It should only be done if applications seem to be launching slower than normal.

  • Mainmenu.xib will not open in a separate window?

    I'm new to developing, and bought the book "Beginning Mac Programming: Develop with Objective-C and Cocoa". I'm only a few pages in, and I've run into a problem. I am running on Snow Leopard and Xcode 3, and when I double-click on "Mainmenu.xib", nothing appears.
    Any suggestions?

    I have the same problem. I'm following the instructions in order to create a HelloWorld routine.
    "Using Interface Builder
    Interface Builder is Apple’s graphical editor that you use to design user interfaces. It doesn’t generate source code; instead it allows you to manipulate objects directly and then save those objects in an archive called a nib file. At runtime, when a nib file is loaded the objects are unarchived and restored to the state they were in when you saved the file.
    You need to add an instance of the HelloView class that you just created in Xcode to the application window.
    Open Interface Builder by double-clicking the MainMenu.xib file, which you can find in the detail view for the project group.
    Note: A nib file can have a .xib extension or a .nib extension. To find out more about the differences between these, see Interface Builder User Guide."
    But when I diuble-click the MainMenu.xib file, it doesn't make anything. What could be the problem?

  • The Interface Builder won't open in Xcode when I click on MainMenu.xib

    I have recently installed Xcode and have been trying to make very simple applications. The youtube videos that I have watched all show someone click the MainMenu.xib file and the Interface Builder opens. I have tried to do this and nothing opens. I am able to open the Interface builder manually but then the application that I make isn't linked and doesn't work.

    Hi chris
    Your question might be better posted in the Developer section of these forums.  It's actually the very last one listed in the scrolling list of "Communities"

  • Urgent: "Exit" in MainMenu Does Not Exit Application Right Away, Why?

    Hello All,
    We have many forms accessible from the MainMenu. I recently modified two forms (Form-a & Form-b) by using the CALL_FORM built-in in Form-b to call Form-a to allow users to return to Form-b with previous parameters and query search results. After the change implementation, all works okay except now our users sometimes have to hit the “EXIT” button in the MainMenu to exit the application more than several times(five times in one case I know of). The following is the PL/SQL code for “EXIT” in the MainMenu:
    BEGIN
      --check_update;
      IF :GLOBAL.SESSIONS > 1 THEN
        REMOVE_SESSION;
      END IF;
      DO_KEY('EXIT_FORM');
    END;Any thoughts/suggestions on this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jinlan
    --

    hi
    try something like this.
    BEGIN
      --check_update;
    :global.sessions :=null;
      IF :GLOBAL.SESSIONS > 1 THEN
        logout;
      END IF;
    do_key(' exit_form'); -- you have to press F4 to exit
    END;If its Correct/Helpful please mark it. Thanks.

  • Do objects created in MainMenu.nib ever get dealloc'ed?

    If my MainMenu.nib contains an instance of one of my classes... for example a "MyController" object... and I give that class a dealloc method... what, if anything, would cause dealloc to get called?
    For example, it seems like when the NSApp is quitting perhaps it ought to dealloc the stuff it loaded from MainMenu.nib, but that doesn't seem to be happening. And, since my "MyController" object alloc's and init's some other objects when it does it's "awakeFromNib" it seems like it ought to release those objects when it gets dealloc'ed.
    Am I missing something, or forgetting to implement something. Or am I just overcomplicating something I really don't need to worry about?

    Have you read this thread at CocoaDev? I think you will find that the objects in MyDocument.nib in a document-based app do go thru dealloc, but I don't see how it much matters if your non-document-based app is terminating. You can use delegate methods like windowWillClose or applicationWillTerminate in your controller class to do clean up duty in a single-window app. I still have a lot to learn about NSWindowController myself.

  • Where Is the MAINMENU Defined in the "Menu Module" Property of MAINFORM

    Hello Ya'll Gurus,
    I am trying to locate both the MainMenu.mmx and it's source MainMenu.mmb files that is being executed in the application run time, but so far with no luck. I am desperately in need of your help, and the pressure is on...
    I have found the following information in our environment and hopefully it will help in resolving my problem:
    The following is the command that runs our application:
    c:\orant\BIN\ifrun60.EXE C:\MMS\Production\mainform.fmx <userid>/<psswd>@mms
    The following are the images of the property palettes for the MainForm and MainMenu forms:
    Image for the mainform.fmb property palette:
    !http://dot.state.ak.us/nreg/jtomasic/MainForm_Property_Palette.GIF!
    Image for the mainmenu.mmb property palette:
    !http://dot.state.ak.us/nreg/jtomasic/MainMenu_Property_Palette.GIF!
    Please help me with the following questions:
    Q1: Since "C:\MMS\Production\mainform.fmx" is included in the command line that runs our application and the "Menu Module" property of the "mainform.fmb" form is "MAINMENU", does it mean the "MAINMENU.mmx" is being executed through mainform.fmx when the application starts running?
    Q2: If the answer to the above (Q1) question is yes, the 'MMS' defined in the Menu Filename is then not being used at all, correct? and where can I find the "MAINMENU" file specified in the "Menu Module" property of the "mainform.fmb" form?
    Q3: The attached Libraries for the MAINFORM include HMMSHELP, MAINLIBR and MENULIBR. Are these libraries loaded to the MAINFORM dynamically or statically? BTW, the MENULIBR.pll is also attached to MAINLIBR.pll and what does that mean?
    Q4: The 'Main Menu" property in the mainmenu.mmb form is defined as "MAIN_MENU" which ties the "MAINMENU" specified in the Menu Module property of the "mainform.fmb" form, correct?
    Thanks in advance for any/all the help on this.

    Q2: If the answer to the above (Q1) question is yes, the 'MMS' defined in the Menu Filename is then not being used at all, correct? and where can I find the "MAINMENU" file specified in the >"Menu Module" property of the "mainform.fmb" form?Looking at the onlinehelp, the property "Menu filename" may be used if the menu is stored in the database. As far as i know this is not possible since forms 6i (but i may be wrong here). If i'm right, the property is no longer important.
    About finding the MAINMENU. I don't know where you find it. If you get no error it seems that it is somewhere on your machine. I would look into the directory C:\MMS\Production first. If its not where, check the FORMS60_PATH-variable and search in the directories listed in that variable.
    Q1: Since "C:\MMS\Production\mainform.fmx" is included in the command line that runs our application and the "Menu Module" property of the "mainform.fmb" form is "MAINMENU", does it >mean the "MAINMENU.mmx" is being executed through mainform.fmx when the application starts running?If i'm right about Q2, the answer is Yes.
    Q3: The attached Libraries for the MAINFORM include HMMSHELP, MAINLIBR and MENULIBR. Are these libraries loaded to the MAINFORM dynamically or statically? BTW, the MENULIBR.pll is >also attached to MAINLIBR.pll and what does that mean?What do you mean with dynamically or statically?
    Q4: The 'Main Menu" property in the mainmenu.mmb form is defined as "MAIN_MENU" which ties the "MAINMENU" specified in the Menu Module property of the "mainform.fmb" form, >correct?I don't understand your question. Forms searches the menu-module which is specified in the property "Menu Module" and "starts showing" the menu which is defined as the "main menu"

  • Missing MainMenu.nib file on Xcode

    Hi, I´m really new to Xcode, i´m trying to follow the program guides and I notice that all of them say that I must have a ManiMenu.nib file in Resources group of Xcode, well, I only see MainMenu.xib, I try to create the nib file but I only can create a library file.
    Also I try to delete Xcode preferences as indicated in help files but without luck, every time I create a new Cocoa project the MainMenu.nib is missing.
    I´m using Xcode 3.2.1 over Mac OS 10.6.2
    Any clue will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    +>is really strange that if they cover 3.0 with snow leopard they did not mention this change.+
    Not at all. Those books all have to be ready for print well ahead of time.
    This means the code being used is most likely beta/pre-release. Lots of opportunity for mistake like this.
    The only way for them to add corrections later that reflect up-to-date implementation is to reprint ($$$!!!) or, as is frequently the case, log corrections to a website when/if they find the time.
    The reality is more likely that users simply start supporting each other and the workload subsequently falls to the community instead. The original authors are off the hook and get free support Nice work if you can get it.

  • Using MainMenu 2.0.05 to clean & fix issues...

    I've searched all through the support forums about this and I don't see much mentioned about
    "MainMenu 2.0.05" as a way to fix and trouble shoot errors like applications quitting all the time,
    cleaning cache etc. Is this really helpful tool or having to do it manually or use other software I see many of you mention on here better ? I would like to think by downloading this application and using it
    today would fix the crashes I am having instead of having to do all the many "different isolating steps" that I see so many go through. This is frustrating talk to me like I'm a 3 yr old will you please? Thank
    you

    I've never used that, but I strongly suggest you get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
    After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
    Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
    At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
    The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
    Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Mainmenu 1.7, does it run and work properly under OS 10.6?

    Does anybody know this? I do not want to pay the money for the upgrade and I do use it to run weekly and monthly tasks. I also have users in my network that would not be able to do that from the command line, so hence the utility.
    If it does not run under 10.6, does anybody know of something else that works as good under 10.6?
    Thanks.

    It's very simple. If you don't want to pay for it, you can't use it. End of story. MainMenu is money well spent. I'm not a rich person but even I can afford £15.
    Think of it as an investment. You can pay £15 now for each computer, or a great deal more if those computers don't get the regular maintenance they need.
    Or maybe you can go to the people at Main Menu and ask them for a special deal. The problem is that the original Main Menu was bought up by some people in Austria, and they started charging for it.
    There are other alternatives, lots of them. Just try going to Version Tracker and searching under "maintenance utilities".

    Am I missing files in that directory structure??

    Did you repair permissions & restart after the
    update?
    I tried repairing the permissions and QuickTime still failed to launch; however, I didn't think to restart the machine. But then I fired up TechTool and it found problems with the volume structure, repaired it, and all is good now. So I'm not sure if TechTool fixed the problem or if it was eventually restarting after repairing the permissions.

  • I lost my MainMenu how can I restore it

    I'm developing a Cocoa-AppleScript app and I accidentally removed my MainMenu and I need it back.
    Thanks in advance

    Unless you made a snapshot or some other backup of your project, the main menu item can't be restored in Xcode 4.  You can copy/paste the main menu from another project or a new Main Menu file, but you will need to reconnect all of the menu items.
    Depending on how far along (or complicated) your project is, other options would be to replace the old nib with a new Main Menu file (from the file templates) and move the interface items, or create a new project and move the script files.

  • Does Anyone Know About "MainMenu"

    Hi, I use a Mac G4 with three (3) hard drives; Hard Disk (Main Disk); 2nd Disk; 3rd Disk. I run Mac OSX 10.4.11 Tiger on Main Disk and 3rd Disk. I installed MacOS 9.2.2 on 2nd Disk. I installed the trial version of MainMenu and I got into a lot of trouble (I think). So as to not mess-up my Mac G4 I need serious help.

    Thanks for your reply, BDAqua. I may have to send you an e-mail because I don't know how to include attachments in this forum. There are 36 attachments. (Maybe Not). As you know I installed MainMenu on my Main Hard Disk and I didn't like it so I thought I had uninstalled it. When using MacOS 9.2.2, using Sherlock, I discovered that all three of my hard disks still had parts of MainMenu on them. I made snap-shots of all 36 Sherlock windows including the folders:
    1. Hard Disk > Users > angelllorente > Library > Preferences > com.creativebe.MainMenu.plish
    2. Hard Disk > System > Library > Frameworks > ICADevices.framework > Versions > A > Resources > pt.lproj > MainMenu.nib

    8. 2nd Disk > 2nd Disk Original Items > System > Library > LoginPlugins > BezelServices.loginPlugin > Contents > Resources > Spanish.lproj (French.lproj; zh_TW.lproj; Italian.lproj; fi.lproj; da.lproj; Dutch.lproj; ko.lproj; sv.lproj; English.lproj; German.lproj; no.lproj; Japanese.lproj; pt.lproj) > MainMenu.nib
    9. 3rd Disk > System > Library > Frameworks > ICADevices.framework > Versions > A > Resources > English.lproj > MainMenu.nib

    11. 3rd Disk > Applications > iDefrag 1.6.9.app > Contents > Resources > English.lproj > MainMenu.nib
    I need help in getting rid of all traces of MainMenu on all of my three hard disks.

  • System Tools - MainMenu

    Hi All
    I was using MainMenu for my system cleaning program, but now it refuses to work with 10.4.3
    I contacted the website for this program, only to be told it may be upgraded if and when they get around to it, which is fair comment seeing as it is a free program.
    Now I need another system tools program, a nice freeware one would be good that does what MainMenu does/did.
    Cocktail I refuse to pay for as they want to much personal info when registering
    I am using MacJanitor as a stop gap, for some reason I do not this program, but I do not know why..
    Thanks for listning
    Washac

    Hi Washac, I don't know Main Menu but if "you refuse to get Cocktail" you could download OnyX for free with no personal info.
    MacJanitor is a good utiliy but only performs one function and that is running your daily, weekly, monthly periodic scripts.
    In general, your Mac should need little if any maintenance so go lightly.

  • MainMenu:correct date on calendar icon, but temp is wrong on weather icon

    Is there a way i can make this right?

    No.
    The Weather icon is not updated with actual information.
    Think about it. If 4,000,000 iPhones(presumably more now) were constantly updating that icon it would(could, rather) create a tremendous load on the servers. That isn't to say it's not possible or that other phones/devices don't do it, only, it's just wasteful - in my opinion...
