Maintaining Comment & Markup Toolbar under Browser Plug-in

Dear all,
We have a problem in showing Comment and Markup Toolbar in Adobe Acrobat 9.3.3 Pro under browser plug-in in Internet Explorer 7 under Windows Vista.  Here is our environment.
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 (latest updates applied)
Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0 (latest updates applied)
Acrobat version: Acrobat 9.3.3 Professional (latest updates applied)
PDF Producer: Acrobat Distiller 8.0.0
PDF Version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x) with reader extension enabled
In Acrobat under brower plug-in, if I enable comment toolbar, then I retrieve another page, the comment toolbar will disappear.  Kindly advise if the toolbar can be maintained.
Thanks & regards,
William Leung

We enabled Adobe Reader Extension because it allows auto-saving of markup via browser plug-in with Acrobat Professional.  If Reader extension is not enabled, the Acrobat Professional via browser plug-in does not have comment and markup toolbar to be enabled.
Now our problem is that is reader extension is enbled, we can enable comment and markup toolbar.  However, when next page is loaded, the toolbars are reset and user have to customize the toolbar again.

  • Enable Commenting Tools in Adobe Acrobat under Browser Plug-in in Internet Explorer using

We have a problem in showing commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat under browser plug-in in Internet Explorer.  Adobe Support cannot answer my question and refer me to Devnet here.
Our system is using browser plug-in to display PDF file by Acrobat under > > Internet Explorer (document viewer). The PDF documents have reader extension enabled.
We supposed that if a PDF page is viewed and I customize the toolbar, the same toolbar and icon will be displayed next time when I retrieve a page, only if I select "Review and Comment" icon, and it only applies for v8.0.0. If I do not select review and comment icon, or I have selected review and comment icon but > > use other version of 8.x, my selected toolbar and icon cannot reappear next time.
If my selected toolbar and icon do not appear, I can press F8 to hide the icons. If press F8 again to unhide the icons, all my selected icons can be shown this time. But it does not automatically re-appear if I open another documet viewer.
Kindly note that all PDF files have reader extension enabled, and only Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional is used in client PC. There is no Adobe Reader in the PC. The PDF version is 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). The user has comment rights since the PDF file has reader extension and Acrobat 8.0.0 is used. User has no problem in mark-up the PDF files, but has problem in showing the selected tools.
    OS: Windows 2000 SP4
    Browser: IE 6.0 SP1
    Acrobat version: Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional
    PDF version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)
    Steps to produce the problem.
    1. Scan paper document and create a batch of PDF files (one page per file)
    2. Enable reader extension for all PDF files by LifeCycle.
    3. Put the PDF files into a web based interface, entering a page number will open a new web browser which interface the browser plug-in and display the content of the imaged PDF file by Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0.
    4. Open a page. It only show a few icons on toolbar (see a.png).
    5. Select the commenting icons to be shown (do not enabled in "review and comment)".  The icons will be shown.
    6. If the browser is closed, then use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools cannot be shown (same as a.png attached in my previous email).
    7. Select "review and comment" tool. (see b.png attached in my previous email)
    8. The selected tools are shown again (see c.png attached in my previous email).
    9. Close the browser, use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools are still here.
    10. Unselect "review and comment", the selected tools will be hidden next time when a page is opened by the web interface.
    11. Close the browser, and open a new page in web interface, the PDF file will be shown, and the selected icons are hidden.
    12. Press F8 to hide icons, all tools are hidden.
    13. Press F8 to unhide icons, all selected tools that are not shown in step 11 are shown again
    14. If Acrobat 8.0.0 is patched or updated, "review and comment" tool has no effect in "memorizing" the selected tools.

That option is nothing to do with the PDF being editable, it's to control the display of the toolbars. "Reading Mode" is when the toolbars are hidden and the black head-up display navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
PDFs displayed within a web browser with Acrobat/Reader X are not editable, nor can you apply markups, unless you're within a browser-based-review workflow. You have to save a copy locally and open it in desktop mode to make any changes.

  • Show Comment & Markup Toolbar automatically with Browser Based Review

    Hi,
We have a web-based application which displays PDFs in a browser-window for review using a SOAP collaboration. In all versions of Acrobat prior to v8.2, once the Comment & Markup toolbar was set to show for a PDF in the browser-window - the toolbar would always show when subsequent PDFs were opened in the browser-window (as you would expect).
However, since Acrobat v8.2 the Comment & Markup toolbar has to be manually set to show each time a PDF is opened in a browser-window (by clicking Comment > Show Comment & Markup toolbar).
This is very frustrating for users - does anyone know of a way (plug-in or otherwise) that Acrobat can be forced to show the Comment & Markup toolbar automatically whenever a PDF is opened in a browser-window?
Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can provide.

    Try refreshing the browser instance.

  • How to expose Comment & Markup toolbar without Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab?

Is there any way to expose the Comment & Markup toolbar from within a plug-in without setting Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab = true via AFExecuteThisScript()?
I think I have found the correct toolbar and associated menu items using the SDK calls -- AVAppGetToolBarByName("Annots:TopLevelMenuComments") and AVMenubarAcquireMenuByName("Annots:TopLevelMenuComments") -- but cannot I cannot make either the toolbar or the menu item visible.
Please note that I can expose the tool bar by setting "Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab = true" via AFExecuteThisScript() and subsequently calling AVMenuItemExecute() on the "ShowHideToolbarCommenting" menu item.  However, what I want to do is to implement the functionality of "Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab = true" without using Javascript.
I'm trying to do this with Acrobat 9 from a browser.

That's what I figured.  What I need to know is what those other things are. More importantly, is what I am attempting to do even possible using the API?   Can I expose the Comment & Markup toolbar with enabled buttons via the API?
I've now tried creating my own menubar and add the buttons from the Commenting toolbar.  I've had to implement the AVToolButtonSetComputeEnabledProc and AVToolButtonSetComputeVisibleProc callbacks, which work.  However, clicking on the button doesn't do anything, presumably because I did not implement theAVToolButtonSetExecuteProc callback.  But I want to use the ExecuteProc that's implemented with the native button.  Is there anyway to call that ExecuteProc function?
If Adobe considers this a trade secret, then just say so.
    Thanks.

  • Missing Comment & Markups Toolbar in Acrobat Pro 8

I had Acrobat Pro 8 (version 8.2.1) intsalled on my machine last week.  I had been using Pro 7, but due to problems with it my IT folks upgraded me.  At first, all was well.  However, two days ago I went to highlight a document and the highlight tool was missing (I had made shortuts to it and other frequently used tools).  Per Pro 8s' Help:
You can use the Highlight Text tool, Cross-Out Text tool, and the Underline Text tool to add comments by themselves or in conjunction with notes. The Cross-Out Text tool and the Underline Text tool don’t appear in the Comment & Markup toolbar, by default.  You can add a highlight with a note or cross out text by selecting the text using the Select tool or Text Edits tool or and choosing that option from the menu that appears. However, if you’re marking up a lot of text, the specialized tools are faster and easier to use.
Choose Tools > Comment & Markups, and select the Highlight Text tool , the Cross-Out Text tool , or the Underline Text tool...
Comment & Markups doesn't appear in either View>Toolbars or Tools.  Anyone have any ideas where it's gone to?
    Thanks, kratsmit

    Yes, it's sitting in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\plug_ins.  Reader's version's at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins.  I have a theory, but not sure it's accurate.
As I mentioned earlier, I was having trouble with Pro 7, which is why IT installed Pro 8.  However, they didn't bother uninstalling/rebooting the machine before Pro 8 was loaded, which is something that I always do on computers where I have Admin rights.  I'm wondering if this latest Acrobat problem is in some way related to earlier issues that I had with 7...?
I'm going to try to see if Acrobat will do a repair with my limited rights and then restart the machine.  Will post afterwards what I find.

  • Where is the Comment & Markup toolbar now?

I have recently upgraded to Acrobat Professional 8.1.2. First time I try to add comments... I don't find the command anymore. On-line help refers to a "View > Toolbars > Comment & Markup" menu which I don't have. Right-clicking on the toolbars I don't find a "Comment & Markup" toolbar listed. Nor do I find any comment related item in the menus. Surely I must be overlooking something obvious.

Bernd and graffiti, first thing I did was to check the on-line help, which states
"You use commenting and markup tools (View > Toolbars > Comment & Markup) to add comments."
Now I happen to have no "Toolbars" item in the "View" menu, hence my posting to the forum.
However, I do have a Comments menu in the top bar, which is in fact the obvious thing I was missing.

  • Enable Commenting Toolbar in Browser (doesn't work for IE / FF)

I've seen a lot of chatter about this scenario but nothing seems to be working for me. What I want to do is this:
    Create a .pdf.
Attach to the enterprise wiki software Confluence.
    Check-out in Confluence.
Have the Commenting / Annotation toolbar available in IE / Firefox.
    Make changes.
    Save the .pdf.
    Check back into Confluence.
This isn't working for me. What I've been doing is this.
Create a .pdf in FrameMaker 10.
    Open in Acrobat 9 Pro.
Navigate to Advanced > Document Processing > Document Javascripts
Create a Script (I called mine 'Commenting').
    Click Add....
    Used this JavaScript:
    function Commenting()
    {Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab = true;
    Click OK.
    Click Close.
    Save.
Click Comments > Enable for Commenting and Analysis in Acrobat Reader.
    Save.
    Attach the .pdf to Confluence.
When I Checkout the file from Confluence in IE 8, the document appears but toolbar doesn't appear. When I Checkout the file in Firefox, the document doesn't appear at all.
I'd really appreciate a clear response on how to get this work. While I'd prefer to use the Acrobat Commenting from within Acrobat Pro for peer document review, I've been asked to research using Confluence as the primary nexus for peer review. I'm not having any luck thus far.

Clicking the link to the .PDF launches the file in a browser (same gimped toolbar for both IE 8 and Firefox). When I right-click the .PDF toolbar in-browser, I have access to the following toolbars:
    File
    Find
    Page Display
    Page Navigation
    Select and Zoom
    Tasks
I don't see anything for Commenting / Annotation.

  • How to add the "comment and markup toolbar" in adobe reader 9

Hi there, I've been trying to add the comment and markup toolbar in acrobat reader 9 but I simply cannot do it. I've tried both the Tools and View menus but I cannot add this particular toolbar. Does anyone know the reason? What can I do to get this toolbar? Even when in a pdf document commenting is not allowed, Should'nt I be able at least to see the toolbar unavailable?
    Many thanks,
    Enrique

Impossible, and illogical. PDF files are not streamed or RAM-cached so if someone is viewing a file they must have already saved it.

  • Comment and Markup Toolbar

The file I'm proofreading is not allowing me access to the Comments and Markup toolbar.  The bar itself is "greyed out" and I can't make any of the editing changes to the pdf as I normally would. The only difference I see with this file is the messages "You are viewing this document in PDF/A mode"-- is this preventing me access the C&M toolbar? Any suggestions as to how I could get this toolbar back?

You can turn off PDF/A mode in perferences: Edit > Preferences > Documents > PDF/A View Mode > Never
Once you're done editing, you shold probably set it back.

  • Comment and Markup Toolbar in Full Screen Mode

I am not able to open comment and markup toolbar when I am reading a PDF in full screen mode. Can anybody help me in resolving this issue?
I want that toolbar should be visible. I do not want to use keyboard shortcut.
It works fine when the PDF is in normal mode(Not in full screen mode).
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

Figured this one out myself. Apparently if you move your cursor to the top of the screen in full screen mode the toolbar drops down. Then there's a little lock symbol you can click to make it stay down. Basically it works like the launch bar on the desktop.
    Thanks self!

  • Control Adobe Reader browser plug-in programmatically

Is it possible to control the size of the
    Adobe Reader Browser plug-in programmitically?
I would like to be able to:
    1) Reduce the size of the plugin, so that I can use the
botton half of the browser to display other information.
    2) Change/Reload/Specify a different document to display.
    3) Programmitically zoom or chnage pages.
I would like to do this with ASP.NET, if possible.
I've seen thrid party ASP.NET controls that do this.
I would prefer to use the Adobe plug-in.

    Try reinstalling Lion:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Browser Plug in

    Greetings,
I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong forum.
Whenever I visit the following page:
    http://ca.blackberry.com/apps-software/devices/
I get a message saying: "This webpage wants to run the following add-on: 'BlackBerry WebSL Browser Plug-In' from 'Research In Motion'. This only happens in Internet Explorer.
Why am I being asked to download a plug-in? What does it do?

    Hello SGoodman,
the BlackBerry WebSL Browser plugin is a legit activeX developed by RIM.
Some reminders: currently when you want to upgrade the OS on your BlackBerry smartphone, you have several ways:
use the option on your device, the installation is made "OTA" : over the air.
connect your device to your PC, and use Desktop Manager, and let Desktop Manager find the relevant OS installer (= the most recent from your carrier)
connect your device to your PC, and use Desktop Manager, after installing the OS you want (= one that matches your device model)
connect your device to your PC, without using Desktop Manager. In this case, you can rely on Internet Explorer for Windows OS, after installing some kind of "desktop manager lite" that will do the same as item 2.
so when you browse that page, Internet Explorer tries to install what needs to be installed for item 4.
    HTH.
comment : I strungly advise you to use item 3 (control is power)
comment : I strongly advise you to never ever use item 1 unless your life is in danger. Or if you believe your life is not spicy enough.

  • Enable comments & markup

    Hello all,
We create postscript files and then have the distiller convert the files to PDF.
A user with adobe reader 9 is trying to use comments & markup to write his comments etc...  Just until recently when he upgraded to 9, he can't add comments anymore.
When i create the PDF i dont put any restrictions on it at all, because i never set the security.
I checked the Documents Properties and the "Commenting" is listed as "Not Allowed".

OK, I have a .pdf form.
It was created in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2.
I open it in Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 and go to  "Comments > Enable For Commenting And Analysis In Adobe Reader".
This is the message I get:
"This form is interactive and has special features. To save a copy of it that you can treat as any other PDF file, choose File > Print and then choose the Adobe PDF printer. This creates a PDF file that does not have special features, so you can add comments to it or send it out for review."
So I create this special pdf file and then I open in Reader 9 and voila!
There is no comment toolbar, no way to comment.
Tell us all then: what is the PROCESS to go from enabling for commenting in Reader (using Acrobat) to opening the document in Reader and making comments.
Please tell us what we are all missing here.  OR if there is some version disparity that we don't know about.
    Thank you!

After trying for a week  with no luck I went for the back road opened Google and typed "AppWorldinstaller-en.msi" I fond a known website with the same file so I download and install successfully. After that went back to the BlackBerry ID sing in page entered my e-mail and pass and log on. The website checked for the plug-in and reply that it NOT INSTALLED how can that be possible??

Have you checked your programs and features list to see if it has already installed? I had exactly the same problem using windows 7 x64. It wasn't working and so I tried installing again and got your error. The chances are it's already installed but you're running the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer (or another 64-bit web browser) and the Appworld plugin is only 32-bit, so it wont run inside the 64-bit browser. If you run a 32-bit web browser and go back to Appworld, it should recognise the plugin is installed just fine.
