Maintaining formats(layouts) on Crystal report with different database

I was just needing some help maintaining the layout of a report but using a different database. The databases are very similar for example, a field for the database in use is line1xxxx what I wish to do is keep all the formating & point it line2xxxx database. Where line1 is the original Database & Line2 is the new database I wish to use. Both of these databases reside in the same folder its just that I need identical reports for both Line 1 & Line 2 & am trying to get away from duplicating all the work I did on the Line 1 report.
Hopefully not too trivial for this forum.
Thanks in advance.

If you have same tables in both the databases then open the report and go to menu option in the report database-->set data source location and create new connection in the bottom window and select both existing connection from top window and new from bottom and click on update. Now the report points to the new database, so now use save as option to save the report with some other name so that you can have the old report with old connection and the new one with new connection.

    Just as an FYI. there is a utility that will actually write the code out for you. See KBA 1553921 - Is there a utility that would help in writing database logon code?

  • How to create a report with different page sizes

    Hi,
    I would like to create a report with different page sizes, it's possible to do it with diadem?
    When I change the layout parameters, changes afect to all sheets...
    Is there a way to change page size individually for each sheet?
    Thanks in advance.
    Marc

    Hi Marc,
    You can use the DocStart and DocEnd commands along with the PicPrint command to spool multiple print commands to the same output PDF file using the direct printer approach.  This should enable you to programmatically specify the page size differently for each sheet that you add to the print job.
    ' Print PDF Page by Page.VBS
    OPTION EXPLICIT
    Dim i, Path, OldPrintName
    Path = AutoActPath & "2D Stacked"
    Call DataDelAll
    Call DataFileLoad(Path & ".TDM")
    PDFFileName = Path & " Page by Page.pdf"
    IF FileExist(PDFFileName) THEN Call FileDelete(PDFFileName)
    OldPrintName = PrintName
    PrintName = "winspool,DIAdem PDF Export,LPT1:" ' Set to PDF printer
    PDFResolution = "72 DPI" ' "2400 DPI" , "default"
    PDFOptimization = TRUE
    PDFFontsEmbedded = FALSE
    PDFJPGCompressed = "high"
    PrintOrient = "landscape" ' orient paper
    Call PrintMaxScale("GRAPH") ' auto-max, see alternative margin setting variables below
    PrintLeftMarg = 0.181
    PrintTopMarg = 0.181
    PrintWidth = 10.67
    'PrintHeigth = 7 (read-only)
    Call WndShow("REPORT")
    Call DocStart ' Begin multi-page document/print job
    FOR i = 1 TO 4
    Call PicLoad(Path & ".TDR")
    Call GraphSheetNGet(1)
    Call GraphSheetRename(GraphSheetName, "Page " & i)
    Call PicUpdate
    Call PicPrint("WinPrint") ' Add a page to be printed
    NEXT ' i
    Call DocEnd ' End multi-page document/print job
    PrintName = OldPrintName
    Call ExtProgram(PDFFileName)

  • Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input parameter?

    Hi,
    I am a new user of Crystal Reports 2008.
    I have created a report with charts in it. The input data comes from a csv text file.
    Can I set the name of this text file as an input parameter?
    as I need to generate 44 similar reports with different text filenames(and data)?
    Thank you.
    Regards

    Brian,
    Thanks much.
    I did exactly what you said.
    Just to see any change, I first gave a bad report file name just to see if I am accidentally pointing to a different file,
    but I got an error saying report not found.
    Then I renamed my original datafile name and generated a report and it still generated one without giving an error.
    Then I also gave a junk name to the logoninfo and printed that name, the new name was assigned to logoninfo, but the code did not error out.
    It ended up generating the report.
    Now here is what I think is happening,
    1) The save data in report option seems to be still on even though I have turned it off in 2 locations
    a) file -> Report Options
    b) file -> Options -> Reporting tab.
    2) For some reason the logoninfo is getting ignored as well.
    Since I did not see any answers yesterday I posted a link to this thread on the .Net forum
    Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input param? C#
    and Ludek Uher says that I am connecting to the text file via a DAO database engine and so need to use the same code for changing the text file as for changing an Access database.
    But the link he gave me tells me to try the same thing that we have been trying..
    Here is my plan,
    1) I will first try and find out why my save data with report option is still on ( but it shows off in Crystal ).
    2) why is LogonInfo getting ignored.
    Meanwhile any suggestions from anyone are welcome.

  • Does BOXI support crystal reports with parameter references in formulas?

    I am designing a report in Crystal Reports XI Developer that contains parameters, which are passed to a stored procedure and are also used within formulas ( in Crystal Syntax ie. {?FORMAT_ID} ) in the report itself.
    I can run the report successfully in CRXI Developer.  The formulas use the correct values from the parameters entered during execution and everything looks good.
    I then deploy the report to Business Objects Enterprise XI.  I do all of the things necessary to manage the report including setting up the proper database connection information and default parameter values.
    When I run the report using the Crystal Report Viewer, I get the following error message:
    Error in File Forecasting.rpt:
    Error in formula <Report Format>.
    'if (not isNull({?FORMAT_ID} ) ) then
    This field name is not known.
    Details: errorKind
    This happens when I press the "Preview" button in the Manage Object dialog from Crystal or when I run the report using InfoView.
    I have changed the formulas and it doesn't seem to matter what the specific content of the formula is; other than the existence of a parameter reference in the formula.  If I comment out the parameter and replace it with a hard-coded value, it gets through the formula fine.
    Does Business Objects Enterprise XI support crystal reports with parameter references in the formulas?
    Thanks,
    Tim H.

    Hi,
       In Crystal Reports under File -> Report Options >check convert Null Values to default > Verify on first refresh > Verify stored procedures on first refresh.
    This corrected the issue by allowing the query engine time to locate those columns and map them to the query being sent by the report.
    The convert null values was added because those field were being used in the record selection and grouping.

  • Business Objects Crystal Reports with Clarity - anyone on here use is?

    Hi all,
    we are in the process of upgrading our Clarity system to version 8.1.1 - which has gone away from Actuate to support Crystal Reports instead.
    Is anyone here using Crystal Reports with Actuate already?
    I was looking into upgrading from CR XI to CR 2008 - but wondered if the extra functionality is worth the upgrade cost.
    They say that users can interact with the data by sorting/filtering and re-formatting without re-querying the database - and there is a parameter panel that allows new parameters to be added to the 'saved' data..
    i was wondering if those features are available when it is used with Clarity..
    thanks in advance,
    Matt

    Hi Matthew,
    I recommend to post this query to the [Crystal Reports Design|SAP Crystal Reports;  forum:
    That forum is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
    Also, all Crystal Reports Design queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.
    Thanks a lot,

  • Crystal reports with BI

    Hi
    what is deffirence for make crystal reports with Bi and build universe and make report on Universe?
    which will be most useful
    what scenerio we use deffirent cases?

    Hi,
    Crystal reports provides you with more features regarding formating your reports. It is a more powerful but also more complex tool when compared to Web Intelligence. Normally you use CR if you want to create highly formatted standard reports. You can even embed XCelsius dashboards in a CR document. Do not forget that in order to design a CR report you need to install locally the crystal reports designer tool. Another major difference if that depending on the integration option you chose during the installation you can publish your CR reports in both the SAP BI and BOBJ system. This is helpful when you want to implement multipass report bursting and assign reports on SAP roles directly on your SAP system. As you mentioned CR reports are built using direct SAP BI drivers. You cannot build a CR report based on a OLAP (SAP BI) universe.
    Web Intelligence (WebI) on the other hand is web-based and is meant to be a tool for ad-hoc reporting. The user is able to create rather quickly appealing reports and the learning curve is rather short. Web Intelligence reports are based on universes which are created on top of BI queries or InfoCubes.
    I personally find the handling of BI hierarchies a little better in WebI when compared to Crystal Reports.
    Hope this helps,
    Stratos

  • Crystal Reports with BEx Query using Custom Exit Variable

    Hi,
    We have BW BEx Query using Customer User Exit variable to derive  the Fiscal Week for Last Year (called it VAR2) based on another user input variable Current Fiscal Week (called it VAR1).
    VAR2 is derived from VAR1 in CMOD via some codings and thus it DOES NOT have the "Variable is Ready for Input" flag ticked in the BEx. VAR1 is user input variable, so it has "Variable is Ready for Input" flag ticked in the BEx.
    When we create a Crystal Reports with the BEx Query using variable VAR2, and when we run it we got an error message saying "Failed to execute query; '[]<java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: No Selection State Support!ZP_MI_LYPUBWEEK>'. Redesign your query or contact the data source maintainer to solve the problem".  (note: ZP_MI_LYPUBWEEK is VAR2 in this case).
    Could anyone please assist? Surely, CR supports BEx customer user exit variables like the above, right?. I also refer to the forum below as it seems to have a similar issue (except mine with an error message), but it does not provide a solution in it.
    Crystal Reports with BEx Query using Custom Exit Variable

    Hi Vibhav,
    We have the SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise XI4.0 Version 14.0.0. Not sure if SP0 or other SP, got to check with Basis Team later.
    We tried that "mandatory" option and did not work either.
    Anyway, SAP has now come back again saying it is something they will fix it in next release/version. We got a phone call from them and a reply below to our OSS.

  • Design a single template for multiple reports with different column order

    Hi,
    I need to migrate the existing reports from SQL Server Reporting Services to Crystal Report 2008, and the column order in the report is very important to the clients since clients have existing code to ingest these reports into their database. Now I want to create a single template with lot of parameters for all reports. My question is how I might use one template to create multiple reports with different column orders in the reports?
    For example, client A has the following column order in their report: firstName, LastName, DateBirth, SSN. Client B has the following column order in their report: SSN, DateBirth, LastName, FirstName. Can I use one template to create these multiple reports?
    Thanks in advance.

    -As I mentioned you can find Template Field object in Insert menu of crystal report Designer 2008.
    As soon as you select Template Field object you will be able to see a box beside ur mouse cursor. Drag and drop this box at required place. Now when you place this object in report you will get some thing like this "<TemplateField1>" listed under Formula Fields tree. Double click "<TemplateField1>" formula to add your conditions.
    -I have not tested it for large amount of Customers. However as the number of customer increases the number of conditions will get increased.
    For the customer that want the same ordering of columns you can put those customers under one condition.
        for Example...
              if(?Client in ['clientA','clientA']) then
                        <TableName>.<Field>......
    -What do you mean be 40 columns? Do you mean 40 fields or you want to show 40 columns in report? Please elaborate.

  • Crystal Report with 2 oracle datasources (left outer join) very slow

    I've made a crystal report with 2 oracle datasources (2 commands). I'm using crystal 10.
    These 2 data sources are linked with a left outer join.
    The report takes a while to run (more then one hour).
    i can run Both query's in a couple of seconds/minutes, but it looks like crystal is runniing the second query for each record in the first query.
    When i make the same report in BO. Just 2 queries with merged dimensions in the report, it is taking a couple of minutes to complete the report.
    Question is if somebody knows how crystal is handling these 2 different data sources.
    Is there any way to say to crystal to fetch the data of both queries and do the join after that?
    At the moment it looks like that crystal is going to the other datasource for each record in the first query, which will cost a lot of time.

    Joris,
    I've always had a bad time combining a Command with any other object. Performance seems to drop dramatically, just as you've described.
    I can't tell you specifically why, it falls off so bad...
    The solution I've used is to do a linked  server query (at least that's what it's called in MS SQL Server) I've never used Oracle, but I'd be VERY surprised if it didn't have that same feature. This will keep 100% of the processing on the server(s) and will get your run times back to what you would expect.

    Jason

  • Crystal Reports with MSY in CRM 2007

    Hi there
    We had built  some reports for CRM Mobile Sales 3.0/4.0 with Crystal Reports in Mobile System Maintanance. Then we upgraded to CRM 2007 and some people still use this old reports. Now we have found an error in one of the reports. When I want to modify the report in MSY I get the error "Error while modifying report; try again". I chose the report in MSY and I click on "Modify Report". Then I get this error and nothing happens.
    Is it possible that you can't edit Crystal Reports with MSY and CRM 2007 anymore? I found no information about this, so I hope someone can help me.
    What do we have to do to let Crystal Reports work with MSY in CRM 2007?
    Thanks in advance for your answers!
    Regards
    Marco

    Hi Marco,
    You might get this error if the reports were developed in CRM 3.0 and you want to modify in 4.0 because the dataconnection is different. I know there is some stuff on the marketplace which describes how to connect.
    May be it is a login issue and note 756331 helps.
    Btw. are you working for ASK in Koblenz CH?

  • JRC bug: apostrophe in string parameter passed to Crystal Report with Command datasource to SQL Server

    Post Author: nl11087
    CA Forum: JAVA
    A single quote/apostrophe in string parameter passed to a Crystal Report with Command datasource connecting to a SQL Server database, using sqljdbc driver does not escape the special character correctly. When doing a preview in the Crystal Reports IDE it allows you to escape the input parameter as expected and work correctly, but through the JRC component it fails. For string parameters without special sql server characters I experience no problems at all. When replacing the Command with a direct table there is also no problem.
    Reproduction:
    1. create a database db1, create a table table1 with a String type column col1.
    2. Create new report Report1.rpt, create a connection to above, Add Command using 'SELECT col1, col2, col3 FROM table1 WHERE col1 = '{?Par1}' . Add a parameter field Par1 : String
    3. In your java stand alone application using JRC add the parameter Par1 with a value "Jon Doe's Value" containing a single apostrophe. Export to PDF. (I also tried MSWord and this failed too, similar behavior). Additionally, in another test try to replaceAll("'","''") to escape it, preventing the code to break, but now it does not retrieve the expected row anymore and you end up with an empty report.

  • BO xi 3.1 u2013 schedule a template for multiple reports with different column

    Hi,
    I need to migrate the existing reports from SQL Server Reporting Services to BO, and the column order in the report is very important to the clients since clients have existing code to ingest these reports into their database. Now I want to schedule a single template with different parameters for all reports in BO, or create a single template with lot of parameters for all reports.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    The only approach I can think of is to create a template report which uses variables
    For each column you would need to variable
    v_columnAName and v_columnAValue
    v_columnAName would have a if statement in it
    =if([client]="clientA" or [client]="clientC";NameOf([firstName]);if([client]="clientB";NameOf([SSN]);NameOf([lastName]));
    v_columnA would have a if statement in it
    =if([client]="clientA" or [client]="clientC";[firstName];if([client]="clientB";[SSN],[lastName]));
    This would only work when you had a small set of clients.
    This might be more managable if it was done in the universe
    Regards
    Alan

  • Link to a crystal report with prompt from xcelsius dashboard

    Hi
    How can we make a link to a crystal reports with a country promt?
    If I named the prompt ContryParam in Crystal.
    And I want to open this crystal report by sending f.eks UK as countryname to this report.
    What will the link be seeing as in xcelsius?
    How will the connection be made from xcelsius to this spesific crystal report`?
    BR

    Hey Sadaf,
    This example uses prompt# to pass "CA" as a value to the first parameter:
    http://<servername>:<port>/CrystalRe
    ports/viewrpt.cwr?id=1152&prompt0=CA
    search for follwing document title for further reading

  • Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input param? C#

    Hi,
    I am new to the forums and posted a question which belonged to the .net - SAP Crystal reports group.
    Can someone help me with my problem? following is the thread that I have started.
    Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input parameter?
    Thank you in advance.

    Looking at the original thread, you are connecting to the text file via the DAO database engine:
    "I added the text file as follow, new connection -> Access/Excell (DAO) -> select the file and the database type as text"
    Thus I would use the same code for changing the text file as for changing an Access database. See Kbase [1218178 - Error: "Logon failed" when connecting to Access database in .NET application|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333233313338333133373338%7D.do] for more information. If that does not work, you may want to consider connecting via ODBC or feeding the data from the text file to and ADO .NET dataset and pointing the report at the dataset.
