Major, Odd Issue

I purchased a WAP54G Wireless Access Point to replace our old one here at the coporate office of Decorating Den Interiors. We've had our old Belkin access point for several years and it's losing it's signal(it's down to limited areas). Last night I got the chance to stay after hours to setup the new Linksys access point. At first everything was fine. I got it configured, picked up signal, got connected, it was fantastic. Then it all just stopped. All internet connections in the office was killed(wired and wireless). I went upstairs to reset the new router back to factory incase I did something wrong but the IP must to changed to something else. It's not our assigned IP for the access point and it's not the default IPs 192.168.1.245 or 192.168.1.1. I cannot connect to the access point at all, I've tried many different resets. Like holding the button for 30 secs, 60 sec, and longer. Also tried powering it off for a while and plugging back in. The Link light does not come on anymore no matter what I do and I cannot get back into the control panel. I unplugged the wireless completely and restored the wired connections for our next business day. We do not have wireless for the time being but our guests will be needing it aswell as a few company laptops running powerpoint(they need access to our network servers).
So what I'm asking, what has gone wrong with the WAP54G Access Point? It goes from running fine to crapping out. I don't understand it. Everytime I've plugged it back in our internet goes down. Usually this is pretty simple...

This did not work. I followed the instructions closely and repeated the steps several times but I cannot connect to my modem no matter what I do. I can reset to factory but I still can't connect to the control panel. I resetted like it said and set my IP but the page cannot be displayed when I go to connect to it. The link light does now show up still.

[Possible] Major Privacy Issue in Safari 5 - URL Autofill

From what I read on the Apple site, the URL autofill compares what you type to your history. However even if you delete your history, the autofill still comes up with sites that you visited in the past. If I delete my history, where is this info coming from? Seems to me that this is a MAJOR security issue if you're not the only person using the computer.
EDIT: Im seeing all sorts of random URLs popping up in the URL window when I type random letters. Is the URL bar also being used as a web search? (And if so, which search engine does it use for this?) I was under the impression it was only searching your history.
At first I thought these random sites being suggested were sites I have visited in the past and forgotten about... in fact a lot of them seem like sites I would have visited.
Its just so odd how random the results seem. Not just front pages come up, but pages a few levels deep on any given website. Strange thing this is to me.

I'm hoping someone will figure out a way to disable the URL history suggestions. It's totally annoying. I'm used to typing in the first few letters of a bookmarked web page to jump to it quickly. Now if I type some letters, I'm inundated with suggestions from keywords in my history, while the actual URL I'm trying to get to is buried beneath a list of other pages that have nothing to do with the page I'm trying to visit. Totally frustrating. Maybe it's good for some, but a way to turn it off is a must.

Major performance Issues after upgrading to 10.9.2

Hi,
I have been having major performance issues almost preventing me from using the computer at times. I suspect I don't have enough memory to run Maverick as the computer was great before I upgraded.
If any experts or people with ideas for me to speed up the computer, please respond. If you think the only way to improve performance is add memory or revert back to a previous version of OSX that I have a backup for, let me know.

The performance issues are due to third party software. Mavericks at the minimum requires 2GB's of RAM but I don't think that's the issue. And you can upgrade RAM anytime.
MacKeeper should be uninstalled. It does far more harm than good.

Keep an eye on available disk space.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space. Less can slow your Mac down.

Major streaming issue!

Hey Guys,
I am having major streaming issues with my Macbook and Apple TV. Here is a detailed overview of my setup.
Netgear 802.11G Router
SSID off
WEP 128 Bit hex key
DHCP
Wireless devices
Powerbook G4
Macbook
Apple TV
iPod Touch
XP laptop
Wired device
XP desktop
All these devices are able to access the wireless network fine - and have no problem connecting to the internet.
Apple TV is running SW 2.0 - I don't know if the same issue would have occurred in SW 1.0 as I did the SW upgrade on it straight away (getting close to a system reset though)
I am able to see the Apple TV in iTunes 7.6 and have all the details of my Apple TV.
When I try to play any of "my movies" I sometimes get an error saying can't recognize file type or something along those lines - or it just gets stuck on a black screen with the buffering "spinning gear" winding till the Apple TV goes in to the screen saver.
I tried on many different resolutions but it did not fix the issue.
The same thing happens with TV Shows and Podcasts - haven't tried YouTube just yet.
I am able to play movie trailers though both standard definition and high definition.
Another thing to mention is the load up of the Apple TV is very jittering and stutters.
The thing that makes me wonder is I ran it on another Netgear G router network earlier today and everything went fine - and I was able to playback videos that I am not able to do now - which kind of makes me look at the network - but the fact that HD trailers load almost instantly and play fine makes me think perhaps Apple TV? The fact it doesn't load smoothly concerns me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just removed Apple TV from iTunes and cleared an connections in "Computer" tab of Apple TV and reset everything - still the same issue.
Apple TV loads very jittery and it doesn't load video files to playback - but it does playback music and movie trailers. I am guessing it has no problems with the trailers as that is not something that gets accessed via the Macbook. Really starting to think this could be a bandwidth issue know, just weird that it was all hunky dory on another G network! Besides all my laptops get full reception where the Apple TV is situated and I can't think of any interference in the position that it is in.
Any other ideas people - don't want to have to shell out for a base station just right now.

A misleading and malicious popup. Launch Safari with the Shift key held down; if that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

Odd issue with WHERE clause

I'm having an odd issue with a WHERE clause that I've been working on in a Record Set, $upperdate displays as 2011-02-28, $lowerdate as 2011-02-01, but,
WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= $upperdate
returns no values, and
WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= '2011-02-28'
returns the appropriate values,
Here is the code for $upperdate and $lowerdate:

$dateyear = date ('Y');

Finally worked it out,
I ended up putting single parentheses around '$lowerdate' and '$upperdate' and it works now.
It still seems strange, because it worked when I used no parentheses with the variable in:
WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= '2011-02-28'
Also, I had tried the parentheses a few other times without success, so maybe there was something else awry that I fixed inadvertantly while messing around.

Thanks for the update! Next, and this is like a last step for me, but I would quit Safari one more time, then clear all the Safari data from the phone with this info and then test it out again:
Safari web settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Clear information from your device
To clear your history and cookies from Safari in iOS 8, tap Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. In iOS 7 or earlier, tap Clear History and tap Clear Cookies and Data.
To clear other stored information from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data.

Odd issue

I own multiple palms devices, and I am having an odd issue. I have used a Palm m505 for a while now, and recently upgraded to a Zire 72. after installing the new desctop, I discovered that I can no longer sync the m505. just sits there and can't connect, while the Zire connects without issue. could it be that you can't have more than one USB palm device syncing with the same computer?

Nothing at all. that I find to be the most curious. the palm dektop version is 4.1.4, and it does not respond at all. to the m505. I suspected the cradle was bad, when I found it would not light up the charging light no matter how much I wiggled it on the base. So from there, I picked up a m515, just to get the cradle. no joy. this did not help. I still cannot sync or even get it to respond. I've tried different USB ports, but this has not changed. (the motherboard is an ABIT v17) what's annoying is that the zire does not seem to be affected at all. syncs all day. on demand. anytime I press that button. the computer does nothing, the M505 and 515 both give the timeout error message. little red roundle with a white X in the middle, "Hotsync Problem" The connection between your handheld computer and the desctop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.There's not a lot to check. the update manager has two tabs for modem connection, but none for USB. is there an update for the basic manager as opposed to the palm desktop?

Odd Issue when using Firewire drive with Leopard-Locks up Dock, etc.

I have an odd issue that has developed on my MBP using OS X 10.5.1 Leopard. It only appears to occur when I plug in my External Firewire Lacie Rugged Hard Drive. I only use that Hard Drive approximately once a week when doing a complete mirror backup of my MBP's Hard Drive using SuperDuper. As far as I can tell the issue occurs only once the Hard Drive is plugged in, not because of SuperDuper or the Backup.
Here is the issue: For some reason within a minute of plugging in my hard drive my Dock doesn't work. It scrolls when I put the mouse pointer down to the Dock but it won't open up any icons I click on. It's just like it doesn't recognize the left mouse button. Also, I am unable to select any menus at the top of the screen. I can left click on them and even right click on an icon such as Macintosh HD on the desktop and there is no response. I am able to drag Windows across my desktop though but it seems overall that my keyboard becomes inactive. For example in a open Numbers spreadsheet I am able to use the left mouse button (so it works then) to select a textbox and get the blinking cursor but yet if I type and use even the delete key there is no response. Even after I'm done with the Hard Drive if I drag the Lacie to the trash to eject it won't eject. The only way to eject it is simply pull the Firewire cable out.
I had a few issues with my system earlier and found out I had some bad memory. The memory was replaced and the problems went away. I am worried I had some corrupted files from that time but what puzzles me is I have used my laptop for weeks with no problems. It is only while I plug in this hard drive. In a worse case if I can't figure out how to fix it I feel I'll have to do a complete format and reinstall Leopard and I don't want to have to do that. This only occurs when I do the backup but can be a pain. Any ideas if I can fix this?

Erase and reformat the ext HD. Then, redo the SuperDuper! backup.

Odd issue after SP3 RU 5 Installation

We installed RU 5 for SP3 last night and this morning we are seeing a few odd issues.
The main one being that people that have additional mailboxes attached to their mailboxes are receiving messages that Outlook is unable to expand the folder. They still have permissions to the mailbox,
but are not able to access it.
We have gotten around this by removing the mailbox from Account Settings and adding it back, but just wondering why this would be happening.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Major Color Issue

I am having a major color issue in 10.3.9.
Issue #1:
Setting Color Labels...
even though the names of the colors are there, the colors are actually shades of blue and gold.
Issue #2:
Mac Icon...
normally on the dock, it's 2 shades of BLUE.. however on mine, it's 2 shades of GOLD.
Issue #3:
Adobe Programs...
In Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat, ALL PHOTOS have this duotone look (blue and black) and the ONLY way to preview a photo in true color, is if I save for web and in that screen, it shows correctly. I'm a graphic designer and it makes it VERY difficult to adjust photos.
I know its not the photos themselves, because they preview correctly when imported into Quark and also when printed. I have also tried switching monitors, to see if that was the issue and I still have the same problem. I had this problem back in January, when I upgraded to 10.3.9, and my supervisor fixed it through DUMB LUCK! I recently had to re-install everything, including the OS and this problem resurfaced. Now it's almost a year later and we've tried everything we could think of, but no such luck. This is my last hope!
Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or has anyone ever HAD this problem? Is it just my negative energy that is feeding into it and making it want to lash out at me?!?!

I am having a very similar issue, and am really pulling my hair out. I have one user that is having this problem - FROM ALL MACHINES! I have deleted ALMOST every preference in ~/Library/Preferences to no joy. Just started yesterday. (I am using network Home Folders - with no other major issues)
Everything looks like it is in 8 bit color.
I have done all the standard fixes. It does it no matter which machine this user logs into, so it is not a hardware or /Library/ issue. It definitely is a ~/ issue.

Two Macbooks, same spec, yet one has major connectivity issues

I have two (old - 2006) macbooks, bought at exactly the same time, exactly the same spec, probably off the same factory line. Yet one has serious Airport issues which are proving very difficult.
It will pick up a maximum of one wireless network, which it barely is able to connect to. There are 3 wireless networks in this house yet it only picks up the nearest one. The other macbook can pick up at least 15 other networks despite being exactly the same spec and on the desk next to it.
Even when it connects to my network, connections are frequently dropped - over 50% packet loss generally.
Both are running the same OS and are exactly the same spec. I have tried resetting the PRAM, deleting the airport prefs, resetting the SMC; you name it I've tried it. I noticed that this is quite a common issue with Snow Leopard + Airport, but I am now thinking it could be a faulty Airport card. Could this be the case?

You already mentioned that you thought that "it could be a faulty AirPort card". I agreed and offered another possibility as well.
Whether or not you are using Snow Leopard, if you have a faulty wireless card or a faulty antenna connector, you will most certainly have major connectivity issues.
You've already performed all the standard troubleshooting steps and mentioned that you felt it may be a hardware issue.
If you have changed your mind and feel that it's a Snow Leopard issue, (logic would dictate that it would have also affected your other identical computer the same way) you have the option of reinstalling the operating system to see if that might help.

I checked all my account settings. But while I can upload documents from my MAC onto ICloud, they don't show on my IOS devices (whereas previously this worked without issues).

On this Mac I did move all the visible iCloud documents out of iCloud, into another folder, then disabled syncing, exactly as you suggested. But there were, apparently, documents remaining in my Mac's local iCloud store, "~/Library/Mobile Documents/" that I could not see (so could not remove). The Pages file "CSU-PD-UN1.pages" was one such document.
The act of disabling iCloud's document sync'ing, in System Prefs, just renames the local "iCloud" store to "~/Library/Mobile Documents/<appleid#>/" effectively shielding the it from the sync'ing mechanism. Looking at this renamed folder (the screenshot above) revealed that "CSU-PD-UN1.pages" (and other files) had not been removed; it would be reasonable to assume that one, or more, of these "undeletable" files were related to my original problem, and when I re-enabled doc sync'ing, those bad files would just clog up the works again.
So I deleted them with the Finder on both Macs (the other Mac had bad files too, but different ones), then re-enabling sync'ing on the two Macs and doc sync'ing between the Macs (and iCloud.com) appears to now work as intended.
Sadly, iOS devices (iPhone and two iPad) now do not sync at all. Newly created documents do not migrate to any other devices, and documents on other devices do to migrate to the iOS devices.
Your suggestions have certainly done some good, but something is now keeping my iOS devices out of the the iCloud doc sync'ing process. I suspect it's a similar problem as the Macs had ("invisible" files gumming up the works), so I'm going to apply some nasty tricks to explore the iOS devices file system and see if I can find them, and delete them by brue force.

Major color Issues

I got my MacBook Pro for Christmas, and for the most part it's been amazing. However I'm having an odd issue. When I turn the computer on the colors are all out of whack. It's almost like it's running in 8 colors.
I've gone into preferences, switched the colors (which is still set to millions) to every other option avalible. Still nothing. The insanely bizarre way I fix is by starting World of Warcraft and exiting it. As soon as I leave WoW the colors fix themselves. This happens every time I restart, or turn the computer off and back on again.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

… do you also get the same issue? Additionally, yu can try setting your display to different resolutions to see if you can make the the display settings stick. One final thing you can try is to drag the file…
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
… to your Desktop and then immediately restart. If that fixes things then great otherwise you can drag the newly created file to the Trash and return the original file.

Major WRT350N issues

Basic setup... WRT350N router with:

When connect the router with factory defaults.. all works fine, but wireless has security disabled and uses Mixed network.   If I have to reset power to the router for ANY reason I lose connectivity to the internet.  I am still able to browse other computers connected, and have no issue reaching the router "browser" page, but I am unable to see outside the router.   I am able to go the "diagnostic" tab of the router and can ping outside ip's just fine.. just nothing from the computers. I have disable everything i could to ensure it was not firewall or other issues.
If i then push and hold the reset botton on the back it will load defaults and connect just fine until the next power reset.
USB:
Tried using the USB drive when I managed to get connectivty and have a very difficult time seeing anything in the folders... after hours of attempting it I finally gave up and hooked it up local. I have bigger issues to fry right now
Wireless:
When I manage to get the router stable by reseting it to defaults I am unable to conncect anything to it via wireless. I have to select Mixed BG only before it will pop up on any of the wireless computers. I play with different channels and seem to find that chan 9 works the best.   I found the only way to get them to connect at all is to disable wireless setup in windows and manually use the Linksys software to connect. Unfortunately this requires manual connection every time the computer boots.. which is not good for kids.
I have been on the phone with "technical support" for hours now and they were never able to resolve the issue. They finally broke down and said my router was faulty and sent me a new one.. also version 1.  This one displays the exact issues.
I have a backup linksys G router and this one has an odd issue of only letting one wireless connection to be active at a time.. this is the reason I bought the "latest and greatest"..
I finally had enough after weeks of messing with it so tried to return it to Best Buy. I am at 32 days and they won't accept the return.. /sigh
Anyone see any issues like these?

I spent more hours on the phone translating the tech support person. They finally said my router was broken and sent me a new one.. SWEET.
Oh wait.. this router does the exact same thing. hmmmm
I have found that the only way to get my PC's to access the internet is to power everything on and then do a "factory reset" on the router by holding the rest button for 10 seconds or so.   Then you have to setup the router again and it will limp along.
If you reset power to the router for any reason it will require another reset and setup.
LINKSYS>> YOU REALLY NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!
