Make screenshots jpg with lion

I am a first time owner of a mac (imac).  When I perform a screenshot, it is in a png format.  I need to change the format to jpg.  I keep reading that I should open it with preview and do save as...
I now know that the new version of preview no longer has save as (which is an interesting decision by Apple)
So I am guessing that the new imac has an even better way to change my png screenshot to jpg, so please help?
Thanks in advance.
tom

there is a Terminal-command to change the screenshot-format:
"In Mac OS X 10.4 and later, the default screenshot format can be changed, by opening Terminal (located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and typing in:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type image_format
killall SystemUIServer
Where image_format is one of jpg, tiff, pdf, png, bmp or pict (among others). If you omit the second line, you will need to log out and in again for the change to take effect."

    what labe maker is compatible with Lion OSX 10.8.2?

    You'll have to search online yourself and see their specifications if it meets your requirements.
    There are CD label makers, Avery label makers, standalone machines that spit out a label at a time etc., etc. check for Mac compatability also.
    A lot of database software also can make labels on a printer using the Avery numbers (or close to it) and similar sized labels, sold in office type stores aka "compatible with Avery 2060" for instance.
    A free piece of database software that works on Windows, OS X and Linux is the free LibreOffice suite.
    However you have to turn Gatekeep to "Anywhere" first to install it, link here.

  • How to make screenshot/jpg/pdf of ENTIRE long Safari window (not just visible part)?

    I want to get a "screenshot" (i.e. an image in any format -- PNG, JPG, PDF, whatever) of a looooooooong Safari window diplaying a Web page that entends far below the bottom of the visible screen area and has to be scrolled down to see all of it.
    I know about the standard screenshot keyboard tricks in 10.6 -- Command-shift-4, Command-shift-4 then spacebar/click, Command-shift-3, etc. But not any of them allow the user to get a screen shot of the entirety of a long/deep window -- they only capture what is visible on the screen.
    Also, another trick people often mention is to "print" (command-P) the Safari page, but instead of sending it to a printer choose "Save as PDF." Brilliant -- except that for some reason I've never been able to "print" a Safari page -- as soon as I hit the command-P keystrokes in Safari, I immediately get a spinning beachball that will only go a way with a force-quit of Safari. This has always been true on this computer (MacBook Pro) -- not sure if it's a common bug or if it's just an eccentricity of my particular machine. Either way, that option is off the table because "printing" is impossible with my Safari.
    I also searched around for various third-party freeware applications, and despite a lot of grandiose promises, none of them actually was able to capture an entire window including portions not currently visible on the screen.
    I did find a commercial application called SnapWeb that does have the capability to do exactly what I want -- but it doesn't produce usable images in demo mode and requires $$$ to unlock and work properly, something I'm currently unwilling to pay for a simple one-use gimmick that simply must be part of the OS already.
    So my question is:
    Is there any native way within the 10.6 OS that allows users to capture an entire long Safari window as an image file (not as a Web Archive, but as an image file composed of pixels), which includes the entirety of a Web page no matter how "long" it is, even if it extends far below the visible screen footprint?
    And if there is no native way in 10.6, if there a freeware/shareware application/widget/plugin/whatever which does the same thing?
    I already know about a commercial software that does it (SnapWeb), so I don't need more recommendations for paid apps. And I know that I can laboriously construct a JPEG by hand with Photoshop by taking a screenshot of the visible window, scrolling down a little, taking another screenshot, etc. etc., and then
    "stitching" them together. Yeah, it's possible (and in fact is what I've done in the past), but it's a time-consuming hassle that shouldn't be necessary.
    Help! I've wondered about how to do this for years, and have never yet found a satisfactory answer.

    Woo-hoo!
    After fiddling with Paparazzi! for another 40 minutes, I finally deciphered (through trial-and-error) how to maneuver through its awkward user-interface to an extent that I was finally able to make it "work" -- at least work sufficiently for my purposes. And lo and behold, it does indeed have the capacity to capture a screenshot of an entire long Web page, including the portion not visible on the screen. In fact my first attempt was to experiment with this very page of our thread on Apple "Discussions" about how to solve this problem -- and I got Paparazzi! to save it as a jpeg!! The whole thread, top to bottom, exactly as on the screen, not re-formatted for printing. The final file size was 985 pixels wide by 4,204 pixels long (1.2mb).
    I have since experimented with a couple other pages and had success with them as well.
    HOWEVER, I can't guarantee that Paparazzi! will work with every page on the Web, because I think one of the problems when I first attempted to use it was that the page I was trying to get a screenshot of contained a lot of Flash elements and other data-heavy widgets, and I think those messed up Paparazzi!'s memory or overwhelmed it or something. But perhaps such huge and problematic pages are rare enough to not be much of an issue using Paparazzi! under normal circumstances.
    So, I'll consider this problem "solved," and give user "jsd2" a "This helped me" star, since even though I already had Paparazzi! he encouraged me to revisit it.
    And for the record to help those who might stumble on this thread in the future seeking a solution to the same problem:
    The freeware program to get is called "Paparazzi!" and is available directly on the developers site here:
    http://derailer.org/paparazzi/
    Also, note that the current version only works with 10.6.8 or later, but if you have a previous version of the Mac OS, the developer helpfully maintains an archive of older releases that work with older OS versions -- you can access the old (and new) versions here:
    http://derailer.org/paparazzi/downloads
    It's also available for free download on various popular third-party sites, like:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15966/paparazzi!
    Be warned that Paparazzi! does not have a very intuitive user interface, nor a user manual, so be patient with it and you should be able to figure out how to make it work.
    If you want another application that also does the trick and which has a simpler and better user experience, but you don't mind paying money to buy it, you can purchase and download "SnapWeb" on its developer's site here:
    http://www.tribalmedia.com/bts/snapweb/snapweb.html
    And if anybody seeing this in the future knows whether or not there is a native way to capture entire Web pages built in to 10.6, please post the info here. Thanks!

    What iPhoto version is compatible with Lion OSX 10.7.5 and will it let me make photo calendars?
    I have just upgraded from Leopard to Lion (via Snow Leopard) because I could no longer order photo calendars with iphoto 7.1.5.  However, I still have iphoto 7.1.5 and need to upgrade this.  From the App store it looks as though I cannot get iphoto 9.5.1 due to the incompatibility with Lion.  I was recemmended not to upgrade beyond Lion due to the age of my iMac computer (2008 version) by Stormfront staff.
    What is the best iphoto to upgrade to and how do I do this e.g. iLife '09 or '11, or are there any other 'stand-alone' versions of iphoto that would be compatible?  How do I know whether my computer is capable of upgrading to Mountain Lion?  I definitely want to be able to make photo calendars, books and cards.
    Thanks

    iPhoto '09 or '11 - purchase an iLife '09 or '11 DVD (amazon or eBay are potential sources) and install iPhoto and update to the latest version for your OS

  • I am busy making a website with iweb. Do you know if it is possible to make a page with a slideshow which does not contain jpg's but other documents?

    I am busy making a website with iweb. Can I only make a page with a slideshow containing jpg's? I would like to make a (pages) document with pictures and have this as a slideshow. Is that possible?

    If you use Keynote rather than Pages you can export as HTML to get a slideshow...

    Or you can use a JQuery slider that will display text, images, movies etc...

  • How to make Microsoft Office 2004 work with Lion 10.7.5

    I just upgraded my iMac with Lion and now have OS 10.7.5, and now I have a message that "You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."  However, I run Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac on my PowerBook Pro--is it possible to do something to the 2004 edition to make it work with the upgrade?  Or do I have to buy a new Microsoft office program?

    Thanks--that's what I was afraid of.
    I found the other versions of this question AFTER I posted mine--silly of me...and nice of you not to point it out.
    I will look at OpenOffice but I dislike iWork so will likely get the new Microsoft version.

  • Does anyone know how to make WireTap Studio work with Lion?

    I installed Lion in August, but I have been so busy that I haven't tried to use some of my applications with it until now. One of my favourite sotware suites, Wire Tap Studio, does not seem to be compatible with Lion. This is more than disappointing; it is such a disappointment that I am prepared to ditch Lion and go back to Snow Leopard, if I knew how. Has anyone had a similar experience, and is there a solution?

    I am a bit late to the party . Just discovered that wiretap studio no  longer works..Ive regularly  upgraded the OS and recently  I upgraded to  Yosemite and its the first time  I've had this issue.
    I cant wiretap other than  via a mic  which results in crappy  sound. Apparently Ambrosia are not going to  make a fix..
    Anyone   know of an alternative that can capture sound internally without the  use of a mic the way  wiretop  did.   Ive looked at  MixPAd... It doesnt capture internal sound as far as I can see   and Onedesof Audio recorder   came with a Firefox  Warning about  possible corruption  or tampering .
    I want to capture  good quality sound so I can study the arrangements  without  background  noise filtering  in  via  a  mic.

    Just upgraded to Lion into my iMac.  Now every time I go to trash something, I get the dialogue box.."Finder Wants To Make Changes. Type Your Password To Do This.  How do I turn off this annoying addition with Lion?
    Thanks

    Same problem.  Repair permissions doesn't fix it.   New mini, 10.7.    Got my first kernel panic and had to reinstall 10.7 the second day, but that didn't fix the problem of constantly being asked for the password either.

    Yes, the ColorPicker would be great, except as far as I can tell there's no way to assign names to the colors in my custom data provider. The user needs to know the name of the color (eg. P01 - Wisteria), but the ColorPicker only shows the hex values. Unless there's a way to change that?
    Repasting the two code chunks from above, which didn't display properly:
    Works, but doesn't show swatches:
    TileList.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, changeColor);
    var colorBox:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform();
    function changeColor(e:Event):void{
       colorBox.color = tileList.selectedItem.data;
       box_mc.transform.colorTransform = colorBox; }
    Shows swatches, but doesn't work:
    var aBoxes:Array = new Array(); var i:uint = 0;
    var printColorHex:Array = new Array(0xfac9c2, 0xFF0000, 0x0000CC, 0x00CC00, 0xFFFF00);
    var printColorNames:Array = new Array("R-01 Pale Coral", "Cranberry", "Sky", "Forest", "July");
    var dpPrintColors:DataProvider = new DataProvider();
    for(i=0; i < printColorHex.length; i++) {
         aBoxes[i] = new MovieClip();
         drawBox(aBoxes[i], printColorHex[i]);    // draw box w next color in array
         dpPrintColors.addItem( {label:printColorNames[i], source:aBoxes[i]} );
    aTl.dataProvider = dpPrintColors;
    function drawBox(box:MovieClip,color:uint):void {
                 box.graphics.beginFill(color, 1.0);
                 box.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 140, 60);
                 box.graphics.endFill();

    Sorry, I had a different idea of "mosaic"
    If you want to create something like a collage or a puzzle iPhoto is not the right application.
    Unfortunately you hav to use a seperate application for this. I'm pretty sure you will find a matching App in the App-Store.

    If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
    Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

    Lion 10.7.2 On both mac book pro and iMac, both with Lion 10.7.2, obtain repeated iCal event notifications from calendar or address book.  Cannot turn these off.  They repeat several times per session and every time computer is used.  How to diagnose this?

    First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
    If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
    Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
    Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
    Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
    Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.
