Making a gallery in dw with fireworks?

Hi, 5 days ago I downloaded a 30 day free trial of fireworks
cs3 but in dw when you do commands>create web photo gallery the
dialog box comes up and says "this feature requires that you have
fireworks4+ installed on your machine" then bellow that it gives
you the option of downloading a free trial. I even looked in the
program files folder and I see fireworks cs3 in the adobe folder.
Please help me. The client I am doing this website for has alot of
pictures. If you all cant help me then I do have a backup plan. But
it would be preferable to do it this way if you all can help.
Thank you.

Are you saying that if I have a project with HD video, I do not need to use the DV codec in order to be compatable with IDVD?
Tom Wolsky said you don't need to use DV and (of course) he's right.
In my original reply I said use DV since that's what you shot.
If you had shot some HD format and had "optimized" the clips to Pro Res, iDVD would be happy with that too. And so forth.
I also said I didn't know the answer to your chapter marker question (which I do understand). And I can't test until later.

• Slideshow Issues with Fireworks CS3

Hello all,
I apologize in advance for this; I'm trying to fully take
advantage of all the software included in Creative Suite 3 Web
Premium. I've been using Dreamweaver and Photoshop almost
exclusively, and thusly haven't touched Fireworks until this
morning.
I thought it would be nice to have Fireworks produce a
slideshow for my website using the "Create
Slideshow" feature. I have all the images in a folder on
my desktop (my iMac desktop.) The album selector allows me to
choose that folder and uploads the pictures into the images window.
If I choose to create the slideshow and have the files exported
back to the desktop, it shows a nice progress bar and (pretends,
apparently) to write the necessary files.
However, that's all it does. Pretend. The filenames of the
images, when clicked in the images window, do not load previews
into the preview pane. The empty pane says "file not
found." And when I attempt to "preview in web
browser," Safari gives me a "file not
found" error. Sure enough, when I go back to make sure the
.swf and .xml files have been written, I discover they are not.
Fireworks behaves the same regardless of whether I use the
Flash-based or SPRY based players.
Since my problems were addressed verbatim in
this
thread, I made sure there were no spaces or capital letters in
either my folder or filenames (there aren't,) and Fireworks only
has to go as deep as my desktop to import and export the files it
needs/produces.
Please tell me I'm making some sort of newbie error. Since I
use Dreamweaver, I am making the (somewhat large) assumption that
Fireworks can work offline. That is, none of these files are
uploaded to my web server, nor is the finished product uploaded to
my web server. Is that the problem? I'm so very stumped right now.

Hi,
Not much I can do, as I'm not on a Mac and I couldn't get the
link (even
after I'd stuck the clipped bit back on the end) to work, so
couldn't get to

Does this ...
www.fasterthanu.com
...work for you? If it does, will a peak at the code help
with your problem?
If not, if you'd like to zip up a few of the images you want
to create your
gallery with and specify the gallery you want, I'll have a go
at knocking
together a gallery for you. Then, perhaps we can establish
what's going
wrong from your end. Send any zipped files to peter (at)

• Issue with Fireworks CS3

I'm experiencing an annoying issue with Fireworks CS3.
Immediate use of the application is not available after its opened.
Meaning, clicking on the application menu more than once returns a
message in the title bar, "Adobe Fireworks CS3 (Not
Responding)", and it hangs there at least 30 seconds or so
until it's ready to be used. And this is even having Windows Aero
disabled.
I recently formatted my computer and have minimal programs
installed. Here's an overview:
Windows Vista Business x64
Intel Core2 Quad CPU @2.40 GHz, 2400 MHz, 4 Cores
8 GB Memory - DDR2
500G 8M 7200 SATA II Hard Drives (x2)
GeForce 8600GT 256M video card
Office 2007 Ultimate (complete install)
CS3 Web Standard (less Contribute and Version Cue)
Acrobat Pro 8.1.1
iTunes 7.6
QuickTime 7
If anyone has an idea why this may be happening, please let
me know.
Thanks,
Mike

Clutching at straws here but my last bit of advice would be
to make sure
you have the latest NVidia drivers for your graphics card.
Other than
that I don't know what else to tell you except that Fireworks
works
great for me which of course doesn't help. Maybe a call to
support would
get you some more pointed advice are you certainly don't seem
to be
alone with this issue although it doesn't affect every Vista
user.
FWIW, before I got this machine last July (2007) I ran CS3 on
an aging
2001 AMD Athlon 1 GHz machine with 1 GB or Ram (running XP
Pro). While
no CS3 (or any other) application was blazingly fast,
Fireworks was no
worse than any other. The worst offender for me was
Illustrator.
There has to be a combination of hardware, drivers or memory
resident
apps that makes it worse for Fireworks somehow but these
kinds of issues
are the hadest to troubleshoot. That's why I think getting a
hold of
Adobe's official support may help as I hope they are
gathering data on
this to hopefully pinpoint a cause for the problem and may
have some
more meaningful advice than I or other users here may be able
to give.

• CS 3.3 with Fireworks and Acrobat 9 Just Announced

I just saw this. Those of us who have been waiting for Fireworks (or are about to fire some off) it's here. CS 3.3 also includes Acrobat 9.
www.adobe.com

As a recent (June 19, 2008) CS3 purchaser, the Adobe customer service folks sent me, at my request, an "updater" DVD with Fireworks and Acrobat 9.0 Pro for a fee of around $5.00 S&H. I'm not certain of the "cut-off" dates for this consideration. I had to submit, via pdf email attachment, a copy of my CS3 purchase receipt. Very pleased with their consideration and got my DVD in about a week. No install issues. Having registered and activated CS3 helped process, I believe.

Is there a reason each path is it's own object? Do they have
to remain
this way?
If they don't, you can select the paths that make up the
different areas
and try using Modify > Alter Path > Join or Modify

Union. You will probably need to remove some anchor points if
you choose
one of these options.
Are you aware of the Vector path tool which let's you draw a
path
freehand? That might be a better option than the Pen tool.

Mac user, OSX 10.9.4. CS6, in the new Blur gallery the pin with adjusters does not appear for any of the three blur filters. This may have occurred since taking adobe watermark add-on and updating Bridge. any ideas?

I am using Mac OSX 10.10.1 (memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, graphics Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB)
and my version of Photoshop is CC.
I ran into the same problem: I am able to place and view Blur Gallery pins but the adjustment wheel or outer control arounf the pin that allows you to tweak the blur value disappeared after being initially available. Additionally, the placed pin or pins appear to flicker on screen (while in blur gallery mode) until committing the change with the OK button. I have tried restarting both the computer and Photoshop, as well as what some other users have suggested such as View>Show>Edit pins turned on. Nothing has helped so far. I am still able to adjust the blur amount from the Blur Tools slider. thank you.

• Associate PNG with Fireworks instead of ImageReady?

No matter what I do in Windows XP's "File Options" dialog I
cannot cause PNG files to be associated with Fireworks. Fireworks
does not show up in the list of programs that can open *.PNG. If I
manually browse and point to Fireworks.exe as the program to open
PNG then PNG is associated with ImageReady (I have PhotoShop too).
This is very frustrating - I prefer to open files via Windows
Explorer rather than within applications. Thanks for tips you can
share.

Mark,
In Folder Options, instead of using the 'Change' button, use
the
'Advanced' button. There you can change the Edit, Open and
Preview
options. Browsing to Fireworks.exe from there should work.

I had the battery problem. I upgraded the to iOS 5.0.1 last night and at least that problem seems to have been fixed. However, the problem with no audio on phone calls remains. Have not tried swapping the SIM card yet. The ATT guy says that they have resolved 90% of the no audio issues with a new SIM card. Not sure athat what has to do with anything but will try that first before requesting a replacement phone.

• Slide menu with fireworks on dreamweaver

hi,
i've done a slide menu with fireworks. HOW exactly do you put that on the webpage now (i use dw 8).
thanks a lot

Hi
By slide menu you mean something like a menu bar? I don't really get it. Post an image if you want.
I recommend to create your menu inside dreamweaver using html and css and not in fireworks, because your site is going to be really heavy and not compatible with the web standards.
But, to answear to your question: Since you've got a complete menu with slices, or symbols such as buttons, export it as html and images (be sure to export the slices too).
Inside dreamweaver use the Insert > Image objects > Fireworks HTML. Browse to your exported file and press ok.

• Edit with Fireworks

There is no "edit in fireworks" command on this context menu
even though I have Fireworks installed. I only have "edit with . .
." and it makes me choose the external program .exe file every time
I need to edit an image. How can I define an editor? I am sure
there is an easier way.

In PREFERENCES | File Types / Editors, Make sure you show the
correct path
to FW in the field called "Fireworks:". Then, under the
various desired
graphics file extensions, REMOVE Fireworks so that the right
panel is blank,
and then RE-ADD Fireworks.
Your other issue is a system issue, not a DW issue, and I
believe you were
given a solution earlier in the thread.

• Trouble with fireworks integration

I installed Dreamweaver CS3 a while ago and was using it with
Fireworks 8. I just upgraded to fireworks cs3. I changed the
preferences so Dreamweaver looks for cs3 instead of 8. But when I
go to edit a png from the link in dreamweaver, I don't have full
access to the png. My graphic is there, but I can't access the
popup menu. If I just open the same file in fireworks, it works
just fine. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix that?

Try selecting the fireworks file in question ( from folder it
is contained in),right click ,select get info ,Then select open
with, select fireworks cs3 and select (Use this application to open
all documents like this. This should change it over to a cs3 file
and then it should be recognized by dream . I am not positive about
this but I went through the same thing about a year ago and I think
this is how I got around the problem.

• Creating standards-compliant web designs with Fireworks CS4 Problems

Hello,
i have some problems with using background image slices.
here is it(from the DevNet arcticle creating standards
compliant web designs with fireworks cs4):
With this feature, seeing really is believing, so let's get
straight to it:
1. Create a new 500 × 500 document.
2. Draw a 200 × 40 rectangle.
3. Set the background color as #000099.
4. Set its fill to be a Linear gradient.
5. Change the first Gradient node's color to #9999FF.
6. Select Edit > Insert > Rectangular Slice.
7.
Change the following properties In the Property Inspector:
* Name: bg_rect
* Width: 1px
* Type: Background Image
* Repeat: repeat-x
* Horizontal position: left
* Vertical position: top
8. Using the Optimize panel, set the slice's export format
to GIF - Exact.
9. Export as bg_slice.htm using CSS and Images.
10. Locate the file and preview it in your primary browser.
i followed these steps exactly but i get no tiled background
only the 200 x 40 rectangle.can anyone tell me what's wrong ?
Kind Regards,

I followed these steps exactly and also viewed the HTML/CSS
exported in Firefox 3.0.5, and the rectangle appeared with the
correctly tiled gradient background. (I'm on a Win XP SP3 machine.)
I tried changing the canvas color to transparent, moving the
rectangle and slice around, changing the width of the slice, and
even changing the horizontal and vertical positioning of the
background image, and the export was still correct. Is it possible
your background image slice is not placed over the gradient? Have
you looked at the CSS exported to confirm that "bg_rect.gif" is
listed as the background image for the DIV and that the .GIF file
is being exported and is a narrow gradient image? Are all of the
export options correct? (There's only a few export options for CSS
and images (.htm), so I doubt this is your problem...)
At risk of asking the obvious, are you using Fireworks CS4
with the updated CSS/HTML extension from the article installed?
HTML/CSS export works differently between CS3 and CS4 - John
Wylie's extension was created for CS3, and Matt Stow updated it for
CS4.

• Convince me to "stick with Fireworks"

Hi All,
I switched from Photoshop to Fireworks back in 1999 - because of its mix of Vector & Raster editing, slice/export and GIF animation capabilities. I've stayed loyal I think you'll agree!
But... my command of Photoshop and Illustrator has suffered. I feel there's so much I could do with those tools not only for for print, but also for websites.
I tried going back to Photoshop a few times over the years but just couldn't manage its drawing tools - maddening!
However, I'm now seriously considering switching if PS does what I need... and more.
FW cons
Most web design job ads specify PS not FW
I need to be adept with PS and AI for print etc. I'm fossilizing!
Assets and Artwork are often PS and AI files, it'd be good to share files with others in the company without probs
It'd be good to use the same app and sometimes the same files for web and print
Raster Image editing is more basic
Less 'painterly' in its capabilities.
Feels like I need to move on and upskill as a designer
FW pros
Can I draw in PS as easily as FW? - or will I need to awkwardly integrate Illustrator into the workflow?
Handy sometimes to make animated gifs (but perhaps I should do it in Flash)
I'm expert with it.
So here it is: Why should I stick with Fireworks?
Thanks all! I'll be keen to hear your views
John

Ditto -- bummer of a workflow.
Someone will eventually consolidate these apps into a plugin-based framework like Firefox. I made a blog post about this, urging people to request this as a (huge) feature.
I, too, need convincing.
I recently switched, hoping to avoid the duality of Photoshop & Illustrator, then found out FIREWORKS CAN'T EXPORT TO EPS?!?! I thought I had beaten the system -- vector AND raster drawing.... I'm still waiting for someone to make a plugin. I'd pay good money for this!
Right now, the only convincing feature is the unique object-oriented nature of fireworks.
