Making a Game on a Java Applet

I want to write an applet for a game, like a card game or something, could you tell me where i should look for libraries or code examples for linking two or more users together for the game.
I can write the game code easy enough it the linking together of different users i'm finding a bit tricky.

A lot of the J2SE library is not available on J2ME and the user interface components will have to be completely changed. Check out the J2ME API and you can see what parts of your code you will be able to keep and what will have to be changed. There is also the consideration of performance, the design of J2ME apps is different from J2SE so you may need to make changes to make sure you don't drain the battery etc.

Java Applets Running Games In IE 5.5 and Windows ME

I've got problems running Java Applets on computer. I'm not sure who is to blame for the problem, IE or Windows ME. I find this problem when I go to any site mostly game sites and try to play a game through a java applet. I just get a box with a small white box in the upper left hand corner that has triangles in it like a gif that can't find its image to load on a web page. I have tried the advance settings in IE 5.5, all of the java stuff is enabled and I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java 2 Platform Standard Edition v 1.3.1 and Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition, v 1.3.1. I appreciate any feedback I can get on this.

Hi Maya
First of all an Applet does not have to be "installed" as you would with a normal application. The browser handles the install and execution of the applet.

Java applet freezing over internet but not on harddrive

Hi,
So I have this java applet game, When running the webpage with it off my harddrive the applet runs fine. However, after putting my website on my server after leaving the second menu, into game mode, the java applet freezes. I don't think it's a code issue since it doesn't freeze when running off my harddrive, or when running in netbeans. What would cause this????

Java applet window blocking yahoo games

not a devloper, but I really need some help handling this java problem. when I log onto yahoo games, bar that says "java applet window" blocks the bottom portion of the screen. how can I get rid of this?

Unable to increase display size in Yahoo Games Java applet; zoom doesn't work.

My father is vision impaired. He play texas hold em in Yahoo Games. Once the game java applet launches, he needs to make the card display larger. I can't find any way to do this. he's using a PC with Windows 7.

How to get started on java applet client/server game?

I've googled, but didn't find any useful information about creating java applet client/server game. I've followed the example of Client/Server Tic-Tac-Toe Using a Multithreaded Server in Java How to Program from Deitel, but I when I tried on Applet, my cliet doesn't communicate with the server at all. Any help to get started with Applet would be great. Thanks!

well, i decided to put in portion of my codes to see if anyone can help me out. the problem I have here is the function excute() never gets called. here is my coding, see if you can help. Why does my Firefox say my java applet is corruped and will,not download for my game

I play a lot of games on POGO and they tell me that I have to have JAVA and Mozilla Fire Fox for my browser. I have 1 game that I get kicked off of each time I try to play it. I get a notice telling me that my browser says my applet from Java is corrupted and will not download. I have done everything they suggest and nothing works. Mozilla seems to be a terriable choice for me as a browser I have a lot of ppproblems with them getting me to my web pages.. help!!

Anyone else here have Laggy performance in Java Applet Games?

I noticed that when i play at pokerroom.com the games lag. It is not internet lag for sure. The poker games perform perfectly on my old PIII but on my new system teh games are choppy and laggy.
I noticed that people are having choppiness and stuttering on their online games. Perhaps this is linked. Anyone else wanna give their experience?

ok so you are experience this crappy perfromance in java applets then as well. its not only me.
unfortunatly i RMA'd my Motherboard and Processor already thinking one of those may have been the culprit.

Problem Launching Java Applet with Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01

Hello out there:
I recently installed j2re-1.4.2_01 on my home computer but have been unable to access Web sites emmploying JAva applets. The following is an email exchange with Jeff Hall of Lowell Observatory, manager of an educational site hosted by Lowell, trying to resolve my problem. The messages are better understood if read in reverse order.
I'm hoping that someone will recognize the source of my problem and can recommmend a solution. I would appreciate any help offered.

Well, I guess the problem lies with me somewhere. Here's my answer/status to your questions/suggestions:
1) I'm using MS Windows Me version 4.90.3000
2) I do have the directory C:\Windows\.jpi_cache\jar\, but the only thing in it is an empty folder labeled "1.0". The file LP.jar does not exist anywhere on my hard drive.
3) I tried several game sites that utilized Java applets and got the same results: the Java cup in the upper left corner followed a few seconds later by the red "X". So, evidently the problem is somewhere on my end.
I'm going to post our email exchanges in a Java Users Forum managed by Sun to see if anyone out there can solve my problem. However, if you have any more suggestions, I'll be glad to try them.

Rats! What version of Windows are you using? It's a little strange to

I still have the Java "blues". I followed your instructions, but am still unable to launch a LOPARC session. After an initial failure, I uninstalled all three Java versions I had (1.4.0, 1.4.1, 1.4.2), then reinstalled 1.4.2_01 from the Sun website.
Now, when I try to launch LOPARC, I initially get a blank window with the Java cup in the upper left corner. After about 20 seconds, the cup changes to a red "X". During those 20 seconds, the following appear in the IE message bar at the bottom of the window: "Applet LPRemote notinited" (their spelling) which changes to "Loading Java Applet Failed..." when the red "X" appears.

Try it now. I think this problem has arisen because Sun just
released a new version of the Plug-in (1.4.2), and when we released the
public beta of LOPARC, only one relevant version (1.4.0) was available
and the LOPARC code was written to look for that by default. I have
just recoded the relevant routines so they should now cause your browser
to simply pick up the latest 1.4 version of the Plug-in you have
installed, whatever it is. I "broke" Java on my machine to replicate
your problem, and the code I inserted today did fix it. Hopefully it
will have the same effect for you. I am running IE 6 and plugin
1.4.2_01 (as accessed via Tools->Sun Java Console).
One broader problem: some (non-LOPARC-specific) users on the Sun
forums have reported the "JRE collision" you are seeing when multiple
versions of the Plug-in are installed on the same machine. So if the
fix I made to our code doesn't work, one option would be to uninstall
all Java components from your computer and do a fresh install of the
latest runtime environment.

My browser is MS Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106 Initially I was
using Java Plug-In version 1.4.1 and received the error message. I went
to the Sun website and downloaded/installed Java Plug-In version 1.4.2
and still get the message.
Before I try to launch LOPARC, I can select Tools->Sun Java Console from
IE's pull down menu to check my Java Plug-In version. When I try to
launch LOPARC, I get the following message:
"Applet(s) in this HTML page requires a version of Java different from
the one the browser is currently using. In order to run the applet(s)
in this HTML page, a new browser session is required, press 'Yes' to
start a new browser session." If I select 'No', I get the following
message: "Java Plug-in detected JRE collission"
If I select 'Yes', a new browser window opens and then I get the first
message above.
Can you help?

I just helped my Dad set up his computer with a new
cable modem, and had the situation where we couldn't
access any secure Web sites. The cable folks had us
disable the proxy. It looks like the error message is
saying it can't find your proxy server, and the logs
you posted say that you've decided to configure your
proxy manually, rather than using the settings from
IE (which is how mine is set up in the plugin
control panel.)
Could that be the problem?

My web page uses a Java Applet to allow my visitors to replay chess games; the Chess Viewer Deluxe applet was written by Nikolai Pilafov some time ago and has been working properly for some time (until recently). I don't monitor this part of my site regularly so I am not sure when it began to fail. On his web site [http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/11/chess-viewer-deluxe.html] he has a link to check LiveConnect object functionality (which fails for OBJECT tags). His recommendation is to "seek platform specific support which might be available from the JRE developers for your platform".
I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Until I checked the LiveConnect object functionality, I was unable to identify the source of the console error messages. This does seem to be the smoking gun.

I just went up to check the LiveConnect object functionality page AND IT WORKED THIS TIME! I must confess, this is very mysterious. I will do some more checking and reply here if I can determine why it is working now (and more importantly, why it didn't work before).

Java Applets do not run when UAC is enabled on Windows 7

HI,
I'm deploying Java 6.0_26-b03+ on Windows 7 and experiencing following problem:
Java applets do not run as standard domain users in Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 when UAC is enabled (i.E. http://www.java.com/de/download/installed.jsp). When logged on as Administrator or start IE9 as Administrator java applets do run.
If I diable UAC an log on as normal user then applets do run. Applets then still run if UAC is re-enabled again. It seems that UAC needs to be disabled for the Java Plug-In to register something in user context (assumption). If this registration happended Java applets do run also for standard Windows 7 users if UAC is enabled.
Since we're planning a corporate Windows 7 rollout (>800PCs) we cannot do this manually on every computer. Ther must be any solution for this problem.
Does anybody have the same problem and has already found a solution?

Java Applet Bar on Bottom of Screen

I get a bar on the bottom of my screen when on pages that require Java, " Java Applet Started" is typical. Folks I've asked about this say they aren't getting it. What is the cause and what is the solution? I'm using Windows XP, and this most often occurs in Yahoo's game rooms, if this helps with determining what's up. Thanks for the help on this one. I'm not sure which you are talking about, but it's 1 of 3 things:
1) The applet is not signed, and it opens a Java frame or dialog and there is a message at the bottom of that which says something about it being a Java Window.
2) The bottom of the browser has a status bar, which says that the applet started. This is just a status bar in the browser has. Some browsers let you hide it, but it otherwise is the same bar that shows the URL when you mouse over a link or gives loading status of pages (loading..., done).
3) If it only happens on certain sites, then this is some custom page/applet design thing explicitly done by the site designer.
