Making a midi note play glissando

Hi all,
does anybody know how to make a midi note play glissando??
i often write my music in sibelius and export it over as a midi file into logic and tweek it from there. the problem is if i write a glissando in sibelius from say A up to an E with a glissando line logic only reads the file as A held with a where the glissando line would be... so, how can i make a note play glissando in logic.
i know how to do this with key switiching( in somthing like Kontakt) but maybe there is another way?

I'd also thought that there was a pitch bend solution, but the problem is that a real glissando is not simply a pitch bend. There's an interesting discussion over on this board http://www.macjams.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=3;showtopic=151058
and this guy JONK came up with a great solution. Not the simplest thing, but definitely a solution.

Random midi notes playing and midi playback transposing on it's own.

hi,
i wonder if anybody can help with this..... i am using 10.5.5 and logic 8. when i play something using midi, after a few playbacks normal it suddenly pushes all the notes so that they play back different, its like it transposes all the notes up a tone or down a tone when i hit record it often records long notes very high up in the scale that i never played. it's driving me crazy.

This will better explain the scrubber bar, sorry, sometimes I think too quick without realizing it. In the 3.0 version, from the playback display for a podcast, tapping the screen brings up a set of expert controls: a button to email a link to the podcast's page on iTunes; a 30-second "What's that, now?" instant rewind button; and a playback speed control to give you 1/2 speed, normal or 2x "FedEx mode" playback. The scrubber bar itself has been given a charge, even though it doesn't look any different until you tap it; it displays the relative playback position within the episode being played. Dragging horizontally gives you high-speed scrubbing (previously known as "just plain old scrubbing"), but if you keep your finger on the screen and drag down, your scrub rate lowers step by step through half-speed, quarter-speed and 'fine scrubbing.' This detail control makes it a lot easier to cue up a particular spot in a long show or book chapter.
Check & see where yours"might be set".
If its not this, then try & restore from backup & see if that fixes the problem.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
10. Reset the NVRAM.
11. Reset the SMC.
12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Midi keyboard does not play the note F2.

Hey guys,
My Logic is running fine overall but this one thing is realy upsetting: My usb midi keyboard (Alesis q25) does not play the note F2. If I press the key on the midi keyboard the note is not shown in the transport area (or transport field? don't know the correct english word) BUT when I release the key it shows that the note is not played anymore (a crossed note appears and next to it it says: F2_ _64). Furthermore it is not a problem of the hardware because when I use another octave the same key makes the midi files play but another key, now assigned to F2, is not working anymore. The caps lock keyboard is working fine so i think there is a problem with the midi setup but logic is not really making it easy for me to reassign the keyboard completeley. Could anyone help me please?

My ipod classic has started making a mewing sound and all it does is scroll through the songs. It will not play except when connected to my computer. I tried resyncing and that did not work. How do I fix this problem?

It will play when connected to the computer...but that makes it hard to take it on a walk with me I thought it might be a synching problem so tried that--still doesn't work. How do I fix this problem with out restoring it to the factory setting? I do not want to lose all my music content as some of it I cannot replace easily. Please help with suggestions and advice. Midi notes or audio region do not play at the start of a bar?

I am having an issue with a midi loop I have created. If I let the song play a bit until it reaches the loop, logic works just as you'd expect it and everything plays correctly. But if I stop the song, or if I set the song into cycle mode so it repeats, the very first note of the midi loop is ignored, and not played.
So for example, if I set the cursor to start at bar 9, the starting point of the loop, the first midi note is not played. But if a set the cursor at bar 8 and let it play into bar 9 and the loop, all of the notes in the loop play correctly.
I found the following description of the same problem on another forum, but it seemed to suggest that there is no fix for this, which if true, seems kinda bad for a pro application. I was wondering if anyone knew of a workaround or fix to this, because its really annoying missing the notes, or having to expand the cycle region just to get all of the notes to play. Here is the text from the other forum:

Question: If a region starts at e.g. 1 1 1 1, and it starts playing from the same position, it seems that Logic misses the first few samples - which is especially noticeable with fast-attack transients.
Answer: Apparently Logic doesn't use some kind of pre-play buffering. The workaround is to have your entire song start e.g. one bar later, at 2 1 1 1, and let Logic play from 1 1 1 1. This workaround obviously doesn't work if you've set up a cycle - in which case Logic will miss the first samples when it starts playing as well. Next time it loops through the cycle it does play properly. There's no workaround for this - it's a serious shortcoming of the way Logic handles audio playback. With cycles, you could resort to using the Pause instead of the Play button/command: this will let you start playback from somewhere before the start of the cycle instead of starting at cycle-start (which is what Play does).

I'm having the same problem.
one workaround is to change the delay to +1/192=20 in the delay box in inspector on the given midi track...but this is a terrible thing to have to do over and over again.
PLEASE help if you know what's going on.....I ran logic on my macbook and this NEVER happened. I just bought a macbook pro 2.5 and it's apparently now an issue?
I have searched the net for fixes, and none work....logic does have a pre-play buffer, but it's range isnt large enough to buffer the instrument I'm using...which means the range is less than 1/192...come on....that's messed.

Itunes 10.7 not playing MIDI files

ITunes 10.7 is not playing midi files (.mid). I often play MIDI files and convert them to MP3 files using iTunes. Has Apple stopped supporting playing and converting MIDI files in iTunes?
When I try to open a MIDI file in Quicktime 10.2, it also does not play MIDI files. I do get a message that Quicktime 7 is required to play midi files.
I sure hope this is changed in future updates of iTiunes and Quicktime.

I don't think this is the complete picture... I have tried importing midi files into iTunes 10.7 on three different computers, and it worked on one, not the other two. The differentiating factor? Seems to be the operating system: it worked on the one with Snow Leopard but not on the ones with Mountain Lion. I don't have a computer with Lion to test on, unfortunately. This might be an actual bug, or temporary omission, from the build for Mountain Lion. Worth filing a bug report, anyway - since it's free and the more people report it the higher priority we might hope it gets? http://bugreport.apple.com/

Midi note B below middle C is being played as Eb (below middle C) in the region only

When I'm recoding midi I'm running into a very strange problem..... randomly the B below middle C gets re-routed to Eb (below middle C). It shows right visually in the region, and when I go back to the controller and play the B note it plays correctly but when playing back the region it plays the Eb. Sometimes it will play back correctly but after a while it will happen and when it happens there is no way to make it do anything else....i tried other plugins , other tracks but it stays the same. Again, when you open the region to look at the midi, the midi notes are in the right place, if I click on the Bb note in the region it plays an Eb but if I go to the controller and play a B it plays a B...???. I have looked through everything to try and find anything that would be causing this but haven't found any reason for this.... it is very strange that it is only happening to one note and it always does the same thing....B to Eb....

Yep, that's a known glitch. Very hard to repeat, but reports keep trickling in. There are a few solutions though, but no method of preventing it. Since I reported it first, I haven't encountered it again. Knock on wood.

Logic randomly playing midi notes. How do I turn it off?

When i solo a track logic triggers a midi note. same with mute and selecting and pretty much every button and menu in logic triggers a midi note or CC. What is going on here? My midi keyboard keeps playing notes cuz logic keep triggering them.
Solo plays a F1
Mute plays a E1
Record plays a C2
selecting a track plays a D4
Everything triggers a midi note or CC. it's bugging me a messing up my sessions. Pleases help me.

As far as I can see, it's random. Everything. Nothing makes any sense!
A the moment, the iPhone is playing music with the SIM card, but without anything plugged into it, but it's occasionally fading in and out.
Oh, and I doubt this is related, but about two months ago the iPhone failed to show that the battery was draining - it was stuck at 100%. This went on for a few days, it wouldn't even warn me at the 20% mark, it would just shut off. This happened for at least three full charges - I remember at one point it suddenly started working again at about the 70% mark, I'm not sure if it was alright after that or if it went glitchy on the next charge... but in any case, the problem mysteriously never reappeared after those few days.

Safari not playing embedded midi music clips

I recently noticed that embedded midi music clips in Apple Mail and in Safari do not play. Basically, I am referring to background music one often hears while going to some web sites. Particularly those individual web sites folks have created. Of course, many on this forum, who have never been a Windows user and specifically, Internet Explorer, probably never realized there even was any background music.
This is not necessarily a issue for me, but it is for my Mom ,who, along with many others her age, like animated graphics and music in their emails and web sites.
I still can't believe Apple Mail and Safari can't auomatically play embedded midi files. Especially given that Internet Explorer and Outlook Express can.
Many one option is using Firefox and Thunderbird for a Mac?

Safari can provided the page has been coded correctly. Many sites that add sounds use the <bgsound> tag which is only supported by Internet Explorer and not part of the HTML standard.

External Synth not Playing Back midi data

Hi everyone
I have one FF400 connected to a Mac G5 2.3 dual core,using Logic Studio 8 as sequencer.
I connected to the MIDI port 1 > Korg dw 8000 (master) > Kenton midi converter connected to a Juno 60 (via midi trhu of the Kenton box)...
In the MIDI port 2 i connected an old Oberheim OB8 with midi.
Well...When i start to record in Logic 8,everything is workin fine with the midi port 1...Logic record the midi notes file and the audio come out
by the synth connected to the midi port 1 in playback mode!!
If i try to do the same with the Oberheim connected to the Midi port 2,Logic record the midi notes files but no audio is coming out by the Oberheim
in playback mode!!
If i try to connect the Oberheim to the Midi ch 1,it work very well!!

Your region is muted. Select it and hit 'M', it'll unmute.

I have encountered a strange problem in Logic Express 8, which, as far as I know, is only affecting one project.

As you can see, I can hold a note on my MIDI keyboard and the note plays fully. But when I press play (or record) it plays a repeated note over and over, when I hold the key.
As it only seems to affect this project, I tried looking in the Project settings, but I've not found a fix yet. It may be something simple that I'm just missing, I've been using Logic for almost a year but every now and then I still forget things!
Any help would be great.

Also, I'd recommend creating an on/off switch for all your Arpegiator based environments... works a treat
