Making CD case "title inserts" FYI

I found a great way to make title insert for CD cases. Crop a 5x5, color, outline 40 pixels, ( 5x5 is a little large and an inside "outline gives you a "trim guide" ) Do your outline in white to save ink. I insert photos and adjust transparency to about 60% for a background and then type song titles. Using "gradients" adds really nice background effects. Print to any paper you choose. This is SO much easier and better than typing!

I have always just used generic photo/image editing software like Photo Shop Elements, Photo Deluxe (there's an oldie), etc. You might be able to do it with AppleWorks as well.
I haven't made on in a long time, but when I used to do it fairly regularly, I simply measured the "U Card" and the booklet sizes on a CD, draw the frames for those and saved them as templates. Then when I need a new cover, I would pull up the template, make my cover/artwork (usually on another layer) then deleted or hid the template before printing.
Once you have made one, others are much faster.

Hi thigpen - it sounds as though you are not doing it correctly. You do not drag the actual text. Instead you drag the small blue square from beside the title-option you have chosen. Drag it down to a join between two clips, just in front of the one you want the title to superimpose on (or if creating it 'over black', then drag it to where you wish the title inserted on the track).

Changing Mixed Case (Title) headings to Lower Case...

Hi,
I am converting several word documents into InDesign CS3 documents in order to create a book. Certain paragraph headings use mixed case (Title Case) and I wish to change each of these into lower case and then apply a character style using an expert font. This seems to be a great task for GREP. However, I have not had much success with creating the correct expression. Any tips or tricks for doing this sort of thing? Also, do you know if there is a shortcut assigned to (Title Case)? It may be the case I will have to use the shortcut key to apply Title Case.

Hi Greg, Glad it helped. I was actually referring to the simple all-purpose one which will use whatever grep settings you have. Alternate way of making jewel case inserts

Hi folks, ok so I attempted to make a jewel case insert with Itunes...was not happy with the result..is there any shareware or free software that can make a decent cd insert? That would allow me to design the spine as well. I'm really not looking to spend anymore more money than I have already buying recording software. I tried disclabel but they print with a demo stamp until you buy. Any help is appreciated.

Software for mac to print CD and DVD cases and inserts

I have a powermac/tiger OS X and want to print up CD and DVD sleeves/covers and inserts but i have looked on the web for software that would enable me to do this with my mac and operating system but can not find anything.Does anyone know of any software i could purchase to enable me to do this with my mac ?

There are several applications that will do that. A couple that are specific are Discus, from Magic Mouse software, and DiscLabel from SmileOnMyMac. A version fo Discus comes with Toast, from Roxio, which is an application that offers advanced disk burning options. I got DiscLabel after getting a LightScribe drive, since it supports that. Both of these will label disks, as well as making covers and inserts.
Actually, any good paint application will print up the covers and inserts, but these applications will size them automatically. With less specific applications, you will need to do your own layout.

Well, what else did you expect? CASE evaluates brances starting first one. If WHEN condition is not met it continues to next one. As soon as WHEN condition is met, THEN clause is executed after that CASE exits. You need to use IF statement, not case:

Making Jewel Case Covers from iDVD Themes

I'd like to lift an iDVD 6.0 theme into iPhoto or some other application to use as a cover for the jewelcase, or even to print as a label on the disk itself. Anyway to find the theme file so I can copy/manipulate it in other applications?

How about this instead?:
Here's how I make inserts of the main menu of my iDVD project.
Go into the Applications folder. Find the Utilities folder. Open it. Find Grab. Double-click on it. Go into the Menu, click on Capture and select Selection. Now, drag your cursor across the menu and release. Name and save the image (to your desktop?).
Open in Photoshop (or Elements). Crop to 4.75 x 4.75 inches for Apple's CD case. Crop to 5.125 x 7.25 inches for DVD case. Print and insert.
Not exactly "easy," but it works for me.

All you do is compare in the same case i.e. temporarily convert what you are comparing into the same case as what it is being compared with. There are API methods for this. Dont quote me on this but I think (from memory) they are part of the String package and they are to toUpper() and toLower() but like i said thats from memory so best if you look it up in the API docs yourself.

Making a case to a Genius for iPhone 4S battery replacement

Due to poor battery performance, I recently asked a Genius to declare my 4S a lemon and replace either the battery or the whole unit. I'd jumped through all of the remediation hoops, hard reset/rebuild, etc, and it looked like a legit lemon to me. The Genius assessment was that my battery performance was within the acceptable range and thus my request was politely denied. I'd like to understand what constitutes a replacement-worthy battery condition and whether there is a standard that is applied consistently across all Geniuses in all stores.
In the past, I've had my 3GS replaced by the Genius Bar for poor battery performance and the assessment seemed very subjective. This time with the 4S, the Genius used an iPad to download logs from my phone, notably the battery usage statistics for the two weeks prior. These are the Usage and Standby values that you can see in the Settings > General > Usage screen. They average two weeks worth of these values for their assessment.
In my case, the average Standby value was 18 hours. The Genius said that this was within the normal range and that 10-11 or worse would warrant concern. I don't recall if the average usage value came into the discussion.
I have two issues with the assessment:
1) It didn't take into account "booster charges". Standby measures duration from 100% charge to the time you read the setting. In the case of the Genius assessment, it seemed to measure the duration between 100% charge and the lowest charge level before a full recharge started. Lets call this a "battery day". The problem is that if you plug in during the middle of a battery day, you extend that day and skew the meaning of Standby duration. The iPhone notes this by showing the message "The iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge". The problem is that the Genius doesn't take this into account. But simply, my average Standby of 18 hours was only that high because I was extending the battery day with brief booster charges.
2) Even without regard to the above, 18 hours is vastly less than the advertised 200 hours and significantly less than my informal poll of Standby values of 4S owners.
So my question is: Is there an objective Apple standard on what average Standby and Usage need to show to warrant replacement?

You may already be aware, but just in case, note the following quote from https://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html indicates that the battery must be at 50% or more from original specs before they will replace it under AppleCare+.
Service coverage is available only for the iPhone and its original included accessories that are defective in materials or workmanship or for battery depletion of 50 percent or more from original specification.
Another option you may consider would be to pay $89 Cdn to have the battery replaced: Apple - Support - Service Answer Center

Making a case for a separate cube

How do I decide whether I need a separate cube or just add the new info objects to existing cubes? Thanks.

Basically on the business requirement.
Additionally consider these:
1. Most of the time when you add new fields to an existing cube you would need to delete the data and reload.
2. You would need to create new queries for the new cube by making copies of the old cube queries.
3. You can make a copy of the existing cube and transfer the data from the old cube to the new cube using export datasource.
4. You may need to create/modify the process chains.

Contact Sheet II "Upgrade"

Could someone please explain why Adobe took a perfectly good tool, Contact Sheet II, and made it more complicated and difficult to use, takes twice as long to get a final result, and then offers an unusable, optional plug in for those of us who were perfectly satisfied before they "improved" it in CS5? Did anyone ask a user before they "upgraded" this feature?

I used my contact sheet II a little different. I have a psd template that I created for making jewel case thumbnail inserts. The template is 4.5x4.5", I make a contact sheet with 1 to 36 images sized to 4.5x4.5". Then, because it's a psd I simply drag and drop in onto my open template doc. I add the clients name and shoot date in a window at the top of the template. Make a print and slip it into the jewel case. Then just pitch the contact sheet and close my template without saving, so it's ready to go as a blank template for next time.
But this can no longer be done with the bridge contact sheet. I have to save the doc as a pdf, find it, open with... in CS5, select in the "crop to" drop down to "Trim box" (the default is Bounding box, so I have to change this every time I open a contact sheet) - (don't see a way to change the default). If I don't change the crop to setting, the default setting opens the pdf not at the same size it was created in bridge / contact sheet. You'd think that the default setting would open the pdf at the same size it was created???
Then I add one or more folder icons I made to indicated what is on the CD / DVD, example: a folder of e-mail jpegs, FPO's, etc.
Here is a sample of how I had used the old contact sheet II. With CS5.1 I have to jump thru several more hoops / steps to achieve the same thing.

Recommendations for creating dvd case inserts?

Hello! As far as I can tell, iDVD 6 has no feature for creating dvd case covers/inserts.
I'd appreciate recommendations for inexpensive or free software for making such covers.

You're welcome, David. I'm not familiar with all the Sharpie product line, but the common one that marks anywhere uses a fairly harsh solvent, and in theory could eat through to the reflective coating of the DVD. I found a Memorex product at Fry's Electronics named, "CD Marker." It is labeled non-toxic, water-based.
Personally, I've not had any problems with the sticky labels (I've used Memorex and CD Stomper labels for a few years) but there are some strong feelings opposed to their use (and I can imagine a problem could come up in 10-15 years). You can do a search in these forums; an alternative is printing directly onto the DVD if you have the right printer and disks.
