Making Child Btn Independant of Parent
I am in the process of creating a drop down menu. I have a
btn drawn (btn1) on the stage that onRollOver fades in another btn
(subNav1) which is being populated with XML generated text links. I
can get the text links to show up but they behave as part of
SubNav1. So for example, the text link background color is supposed
to change onRollOver and they should take the user to a URL when
clicked - they don't as long as they are nested in SubNav1. If I
take them out of SubNav1 and onto the root they work fine.
Also, all of these btns are movieClip objects.
What is the remedy to this?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
not exactly sure if i understand what you're asking
correctly.
if you have a rollover of a parent clip, anything side it
that has a rollover will be override by the parent one.
so, if you want them act independly, you can make it so the
master button is also inside along with all other buttons. that
way, each will respond correctly to their rollover actions.

Creating AWT child dialog within a parent hangs in 1.7 but works with 1.6
Hi,
We are making use of Java AWT packages. In which we are creating an child dialog within a parent window and it hangs, meaning none of the buttons on the child window works, even the close is not happening (parent, child and console all hangs, need to kill the applet from the task manager). No error/exception is seen in the Console. No deadlocks noticed in the thread dumps.
This is seen only with JRE1.7 (update 10,11,13,15) version. But the same code is working fine with JRE 1.6 version.
We also have same codebase of next release, where the code is changed to Swings and that seems to work with JRE1.7.
Can somebody suggest me what might be causing it to fail with JRE_1.7 at the earliest as this a critical issue.
Thanks in advance!We have a tuxedo service which needs to communicate with a POS device by socket. The parent process provides the tuxedo service. The child process provides the connection management for the device. Unnamed pipe is used for communication between the parent and the child. In the child process, there is no code related to tuxedo. The benefit of that design is the tuxedo server does not need to wait for connection from the device when boots up, and the tuxedo service does not need to wait for connection from the device when the service is called.
The tuxedo server was developed 10 years ago, and worked fine till we upgraded tuxedo from 10 to 12 recently. That means it worked for 10 years, and it worked in tuxedo 6.5, tuxedo 10. But in tuxedo 12, tmboot does not return for this tuxedo server. We have to press CTRL-C and yes to cancel. After cancel, the tuxedo service seems working fine. -
Parent pane & child pane and child needs to tell parent something.
Hi,
I cannot find the answer to my question anywhere. Yet, it is absolutely basic. Could anyone point me to my blind spot?
I have fi a parent jpane with a child jpane. The child checks a name. If that name is correct the parent(!) needs to replace the child pane with some other pane (fi a picture).
HOW does the child communicate to the parent?
The actionListener on the child wants the child to do the listening (fine for me).
But contrary to methods, I cannot leave/get-out the child class back into some parent code.
This means that a child pane cannot have button that will change the color in the parent pane.
I find that extremely hard to believe but that is my experience. The converter example code comes closest to the the action I try to describe here. The essential element must be hiding there.
But if anyone of you guys could help me out with a link or so describing/solving my essential problem I would be very very glad.
(I suppose I can 'communicate' to the parent by 'dividing by zero' in the child, so at least the exception handling can do what I want)
I could also imagine that I display the child, and then do a continious loop in the parent where I try to get a value from the child.
When the child has set the value I can than get it and remove the child. However, this doesn't feel as event-handling to me.

WimEWell, sorry for not saying so, but you would have to add that code to your parent's class and create the method swapComponents() in the parent... :-(
You would need to do:
1) instantiate the child
2) add your parent's listener to the child through child.addActionListener(x); - where x could either be the parent itself or an anonymous inner class.
3) add a method called swapComponents() to your parent
4) call swapComponents() in the parent's ActionListener to have it react by swapping the comps (removing comp1 and adding comp2 instead).
I don't know if extending the parent is unsuitable for you. Maybe it would create too tight coupling, or maybe you don't want to extend the parent's class. But as you suggested throwing an exception to inform the parent, I supposed adding code to the parent would be fine.
Still, if this is not a good solution, you could probably do a similar thing by making a type of controller class (instantiate it once with the appropriate params):
public class ComponentSwapper {
private JComponent parent;
private AbstractButton normalChild;
private JComponent specialChild;
* Using AbstractButton for parameter normalChild as it supports
* ActionListeners. Replace this with the class used by your child comp.
public ComponentSwapper(JComponent parent, AbstractButton normalChild,
JComponent specialChild) {
super();
parent.add(normalChild);
this.parent = parent;
this.normalChild = normalChild;
this.specialChild = specialChild;
normalChild.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
swapComponents();
protected void swapComponents() {
parent.remove(normalChild);
parent.add(specialChild);
parent.revalidate();
}Finally, you could also make a quick and dirty solution by wrapping your child inside a subclass of JPanel. Add the JPanel subclass to the parent, and let this subclass dynamically swap child control within itself (have a single child that fills the JPanel sub's interior) as needed. -

It's not possible to 'append' a StringItem or a TextField (or any other lcdui.Item object) to a Canvas or GameCanvas. You can only draw lines, draw images, draw text, etc etc, on a Canvas screen. So, you can only 'simulate' the look and feel of a TextField (on a Canvas) by painting it and adding source code for command handling (like key presses). However, this will be quite some work!!
lcdui.Item objects can only be 'appended' to a Form-like Displayable.

How to Use Messge-Pool of Child DC, in the Parent DC
Hi,
I am trying to achieve componentization of webdynpro projects.
I want to use the messages stored in the Messge-Pool of child DC, in the parent DC.
I have done the following so far:
I have stored all the messages(error/standard) in the message pool of one DC project.
I have created the public part of the component of that DC.
I have Build-deploy-checkin that DC project.
I have added that public part to another DC.
I have successfully added it to the "used Webdynpro components" of the second DC.
I am able to successfully pass values using context mappings, between the two DCs.
But i am not able to use the Messges available in th message-pool of the first(child) DC.
I added the childDC to the properties of the Views of the second(Parent) DC, but i am still not able to use the Messages present in the Messagepool of the child DC.
Is there a way to use the Messages present in the Messagepool of the child DC, in the views of the parent DC???
Thanks,

You have to use EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY AND RETURN addition with SUBMIT stmt.
Try like this:

L_IT_LIST TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF ABAPLIST.
SUBMIT <Child Program Name>

EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY AND RETURN. "#EC CI_SUBMIT

Executing Child Taskflow Method from parent taskflow page
Hi All,
I have one issue with checking dirty data form Parent Taskflow button to check dirty data update in Child Taskflow page's view Object.
JDev version: 11.1.1.3
Scenario :
Outer Container page has back button which need to check wherethere child taskflow has dirty data update or not. Child Taskflow transaction is always create new transaction and non-shared. But from ControllerContext, the root am service still associated with other viewobjects i.e. is loaded in others tabs in that outer container page, which is also checking dirty data from another tabs' viewobject dirty data checking (I need to avoid this issue that's why not working for me with controller context). I am thining to execute the child taskflow method from parent page on back button to check dirty data update for that tabs' page only. For it, how can we get access child taskflow method from parent page with static region taskflow. Is there any solution to implement like this? thank you so much.
- RobinHi,
this should work:
1. child task flow has input parameter "parentBean" defined.
2. The child task flow has a managed bean "ChildBean" defined in pageFlowScope with a property "parentBean" with setter/getter.
3. the parentBean input parameter references (in its value roperty) #{pageFlowScope.childBean.parentBean}
4. The parent bean is configured on the parent view task flow (viewScope) and passed as a task flow binding input parameter. The parent bean has a boolean property "childFlowTransactionDirty"
This allows the child bean to invoke the parent bean childFlowTransactionDirty to tell it that the transaction is dirty. On the parent view, you would just check the parentBean state for this property.
Next is how you set the value on the parentBean from the childTaskFlow. One option is to use a RegionController on the PageDef file of ADF bound views in the child task flow.
public class MyRegionController implements RegionController {
public MyRegionController(){
public boolean refreshRegion(RegionContext regionContext) {
int refreshFlag = regionContext.getRefreshFlag();
//get access to the ChildBean and its parentBean property. Then call
//ControllerContext .... to check the transaction state
//update the childFlowTransactionDirty property
((DCBindingContainer)regionContext.getRegionBinding()).refresh(refreshFlag);
return true;
@Override
public boolean validateRegion(RegionContext regionContext) {
regionContext.getRegionBinding().validate();
return false;
public boolean isRegionViewable(RegionContext regionContext) {
return regionContext.getRegionBinding().isViewable();
@Override
public String getName() {
return this.getClass().toString();
}Next: When users press the back button in the parent view, you call the ParentView bean childFlowTransactionDirty to check the child task flow transaction to be dirty or not

Find child record of a parent record
Hi,
I need to find the child recond of a parent party and if that child also have some
child then I need to find again and this process will go untill no child record
found(child is null)
I am trying to do it by the help of hierarchical query.
can anyone please help and tell me how can I do that and how can I handle if a parent have multiple childs.
MohanIt is always helpful to provide the following:
1. Oracle version (SELECT * FROM V$VERSION)
2. Sample data in the form of CREATE / INSERT statements.
3. Expected output
4. Explanation of expected output (A.K.A. "business logic")
5. Use \ tags for #2 and #3. See FAQ (Link on top right side) for details.
Also see the third post in this thread:

This would probably be better suited in the {forum:id=75} forum. -
Summarize (sum) a field in a child group to a parent group section
Can someone tell me how to insert a summary (sum) of a field in a child group to a parent group? The column is not in the detail row, only a group section.
Hi Mark,
As I understand from the description, you have 2 groups(child and parent) and you want to insert summary of the field in child group to a parent group.
Try following........
Go to Insert -> summary
Insert summary based on required field and then under the option "Summary Location" select the Parent Group.
Please let us know if you are looking for something else.

Transfer Focus From a Child Dialog To its Parent Frame
Hi
I m working on a Multimedia Desktop Application. I have done alomst 90% of work. Here I have a problem to transfer focus from a Child Dialog to Parent Frame. Remember the whole applicatio does not use Mouse every thing is handled on key events. So I required to transefer the focus from a Child Dialog to its Parent Frame from key board. I also cant use ALT+TAB because
1- Child is a dialog
2- This is a Multimedia Application which will be deployed For TV production and can't allow any Computer
Components to be viewable.
So I want only key press to transfer the focus between Child and The Parent.
Thanks.

How to retrieve a child node's immediate parent node from a tree table?
Hello
Hi,
I have a category_subcategories table, and I would like to know how to construct a sql and sub-sql for retrieving a child node's immediate parent node.
Here is my first part of the sql, it only returns the node "Flash"'s parent and its grand-parents:
SELECT parent.category_name, node.lft, node.rgt
FROM category_subcategories AS node,
category_subcategories AS parent
WHERE node.lft > parent.lft AND node.lft < parent.rgt
AND node.category_name = 'FLASH'
ORDER BY parent.lft;
| name |
| ELECTRONICS |
| PORTABLE ELECTRONICS |
| MP3 PLAYERS | |
how can I modify this query so that it returns Flash' parent - 'MP3 Players'?
Thanks a lot
SamHi,
This is an Oracle forum. If you're not iusing Oracle, make that clear. Always say what version of your softwate you're using, whether it's Oracle or anything else.
Whenever you have a question, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), and the results you want from that data. Explain how you get those results from that data.
It looks like you're using the Nested Sets technique for modeling a tree. To get the parents of given nodes, do something like this:
SELECT parent.category_name
, node.lft
, node.rgt
FROM category_subcategories node -- Can't use AS with table alias in Oracle
, category_subcategories parent
WHERE parent.lft IN (
SELECT MAX (lft)
FROM category_subcategories
WHERE lft < node.lft
AND rgt > node.rgt
AND node.category_name = 'FLASH'
ORDER BY parent.lft; This should work in Oracle 8.1 and up. (I can't actually test it unless you post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for some sample data). You may need to modify the syntax a little for your database.

What is wrong with it?What does the error message say?
Apparantly, in your system (unlike Oracle), every sub-query must have a name. Try something like this:
select parent.*
from category_subcategories as parent
having parent.lft = (
select max(parent.lft)
from (
SELECT parent.category_name
, parent.lft
, parent.rgt
FROM category_subcategories AS node,
category_subcategories AS parent
WHERE node.lft > parent.lft
AND node.lft < parent.rgt
AND node.category_name = 'Sofa'
ORDER BY parent.lft -- Is this a waste of effort?
) AS got_name_lft_and_rgt
) AS got_lft
;What is the purpose of having the inner sub-query, the one I called got_name_lft_and_rgt?
Also, in Oracle, an ORDER BY clause in a sub-query doesn;t guarantee that any super-queries will keep that order. Why do you have an ORDER BY clause in the sub-query, and not in the main query? -

Sending events from a child frame to a parent
My application has a main Jframe which instantiates and launches sub-frames. I'd like to send a mouse event from a sub-frame back to the main frame (child to parent).
For example imagine this simple program: jFrame1 has a text box and a button. When the button is pressed a new instance of a different frame (jFrame2) is launched. The user moves the mouse over to jFrame2 making it the active window, and then clicks somewhere in the frame. The text box back in jFrame1 gets set to the X coordinate of the mouse click over in the other frame.
Thanks in advance for any responses.One way that could work would be to use the Observer pattern here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observer_pattern
Quick question though: why are you spawning child JFrames and not JDialogs? The dialogs would seem like a more natural fit.
