Making invisible folders visible

How do i make invisible folders visible?

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following exactly as written below:
tell application "Finder" to quit
do shell script "chflags nohidden " & quoted form of POSIX path of (choose folder with invisibles)
delay 2
tell application "Finder" to run
To change the global setting instead of making single items visible, replace the second line with:
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1"

    how do you make invisible folders visible? My hard drive icon will not show up? I did not set-up this computer.

    The instructions I provided have nothing to do with Time Machine. Did you try what I suggested? If you select the "alias" file then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Show Original in the context menu.
    Maybe it would be helpful if you were to provide a more complete description of this issue.

  • INVISIBLE FOLDERS (BUT NOT ALL) VISIBLE AFTER INSTALL

    I know there were previous threads but nothing does anything for me. Also i have some other details.
    I WOULD LIKE TO ADD:
    I used this same install disk to install several computers including this laptop WITHOUT any problems. The same install disk 2 days later is installing over and over with the folders visible, and not all the other hidden items. l have not really checked the filesystem to see if its all folders or not.
    My concerns:
    Is there a chance this is security related and i have some kind of "swapped" install disk that could have any form of malware built into it? It is troubling to me that the same disk is producing different results days apart. I also don't like the apparently rare nature of this problem nor that it is not fixable using any methods i have found so far. Honestly, I don't want to fix it. I want it not to happen on install or I am going to have questions about its origins, since I have had no problems prior to this.
    Can the installation of Linux (specifically Suse) do something that a Disk Utility wipe would not get rid of such as some kind of open firmware setting (seems impossible to me) or similar vein?
    Any help would be appreciated. The fact that it now appears i cannot install without this happening after 75 installs of it not happening is bothering me.

    Clearly there is no way to make Addressbook duplicates visible. I think this is a huge MUST. Please Apple can you address this!?

  • Weird issue - invisible folders/shares showing up for one user

    I've *never* seen this happen before. One of our users, when using Illustrator, goes to open or save a file. In his file browsers, invisible shares keep appearing. If I unmount his network shares, the problem disappears. I just re-installed his system and that had no effect (archive and re-install). He's run into issues because he'd save files in what appears to be a MIRROR image of a network share and no one else can find his files.
    I found something online that said to remove aliases from the /Network folder but I can't seem to delete the two entries....grrr
    Here's a screenshot:
    http://www.cttechies.com/ghostfolders.png

    Well, I'm not certain, but I think, (lest things have changed), that some of the stuff from System Prefs & User Prefs go into reconstructing those invisible Folders/Files.
    If you boot it into FWTDM you might try trashing those Invisibles, (automount & Servers) at root of that machine, as well as...
    /Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences... the whole Prefs folder there.
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration... the whole SysConfig folder.
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
    Reboot... of course you dont have to trash them, you can just move them to the desktop to drag back if it doesn't work.
    BTW, though there are many, I use Xupport...
    http://www.xupport.ch/
    to make the Finder show "invisibles" so I can GUI get rid of that stuff... along with it's Force Delete or whatever it's called.

  • How do I make hidden folders visible?

    sorry about the basic question, but How do I make hidden folders visible?
    thanks

    Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and run the following:
    do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1"
    Click on the Finder in the Dock with the Control and Option keys held down and choose Relaunch. Some third-party utility software will also do this.

  • Sherlock - Can't open files - Invisible Folders?

    Not sure if it's related or not, but ever since I installed Tiger, my Sherlock for OS9 is messed up. Everytime I search for something, I can't open any seach results.....error says that they are in Invisible Folders. My computer at home is having the same problem. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I still use OS9 at work until we can upgrade our hardware, and it's taking me tons of extra time to open files without just double-clicking in Sherlock.

    I would try the usual first trouble-shooting steps on the X and 9 sides.
    In Mac OS 9 (if you are booting directly to 9), do the rebuild desktop file routine by holding down the Option and Command (Apple) keys during startup until prompted to confirm. If you are running 9 under Classic only, the equivalent action is in the Classic panel in System Preferences, in the Advanced tab (button for Rebuild Desktop).
    In Mac OS X, run Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions. Also, I notice a command in the Disk Utility menu that is not on the window. In the Menu under File, there is a choice called "Fix OS 9 Permissions." I've never used that command, but it sounds like it might be relevant to your situation.

  • Hidden or invisible folders

    Does anyone know how to find hidden or invisible folders? I have used the finder to search the computer for invisible folders and all it finds is .trash ... I am looking for a folder called .kgml_editor which is on my home directory but obviously it doesn't show up. I need to copy a couple of files to it to make my program work properly. I think it must be there, because I have downloaded the program. Any clues would be a great help. I have read older topics after a search but I don't know that they are relevant because many are a couple of years old.

    If the thing is a folder, and it is in your home folder (that is, you know its exact path), you can use the Finder's Go menu bar item to open it. Select the "Go to folder..." option and in the little window that opens type the path and click the Go button. Thus I have a folder in my home folder that I just made invisible by adding a "." to its name (.dwsite). I can open it by typing this in the Go->Go to Folder window:
    /Users/francine/.dwsite/
    So yours would be:
    /Users/yourname/.kgml_editor
    If the folder is somewhere else you can use the Terminal to find it.

  • Making Portal Content Visible/Invisible at Runtime

    Hi SDNers,
    I'm having a Portal Content Hierarchy which goes till 5 levels. The hierarchy includes roles, subroles, worksets, pages etc at different levels.
    Now, the scenario is, not all the subroles should be visible to every user. I would like to make some WorkSets, Pages invisible for some user according to the specified role.
    Means if a user doesnt have authorizations to do certain operations, those Pages, WorkSets should not be visible.
    A Solution would be to prepare multiple Hierarchies according to the specified role. But those combinations are so many that I'm not feeling comfortable with the approach of making all the hierarchies statically.
    I tried to find the solution with "Portal Content Permissions" but unfortunately couldnt come up with one.
    Please let me know if anyone has any ideas for the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mausam

    Hi,
    Use PCDFilter, which can be used to filter role and workset content depending on the users.

  • Making Subform invisible or visible

    Hi ,
    I wanted to make a subform visible or invisible on selecting a radiobutton.
    I tried using
    <subformname>.presence = "invisible";
    in the click event of radiobutton , but its not working.
    Please suggest a solution.
    Points will be rewarded.
    Thanks.

    Hello Thomas,
    You can use the following pattern of the Scripting to hide subforms.
    <formName>.<Subform Name>.presence = "hidden";
    few important points to remember :
    1. use scripting language as 'Java Script'
    2. write the script under 'initialize' mode and the Run at option should be set to 'client'.
    Hope, this helps in resolving your issue.

    Hi Sarah,
    You can use the following in WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED:
    IF  GET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('CONNECT_STRING', visible) = 'FALSE' THEN;
    SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('CONNECT_STRING', visible, PROPERTY_TRUE);
    ELSE
    SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('CONNECT_STRING', visible, PROPERTY_FALSE);
    END IF;Hope this helps.
    Best Regards
    Arif Khadas
    Two posts before me so additionally I will have the statement that can be used to change the label of the Toggle Button.
    IF  GET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('CONNECT_STRING', visible) = 'FALSE' THEN;
    SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('CONNECT_STRING', visible, PROPERTY_TRUE);
    SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('button_name', label, 'Hide Connect String');
    ELSE
    SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('CONNECT_STRING', visible, PROPERTY_FALSE);
    SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('button_name', label, 'Show Connect String');
    END IF;Edited by: Arif Khadas on May 26, 2010 11:43 AM

  • Making Multiple Panels invisible and visible

    So I have this problem, Im trying to make different panels visible and invisible by the means of a button. I believe my code is sound, but its not working. I would really appreciate it if someone were to look at my code and solve this problem. Basically my button isnt working.
    import java.awt.image.*;
    import java.awt.geom.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class panels extends JFrame
    private JPanel panel1, panel2, panel3, panel4;
    private JLabel title;
    private JButton test;
    public panels ()
    setSize (400,800);
    JButton test = new JButton ("test");
    title = new JLabel ("");
    JPanel panel1 = new JPanel();
    panel1.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(200,200));
    panel1.setLayout (new GridLayout(5,2));
    panel1.setBackground(Color.black);
    JPanel panel2 = new JPanel();
    panel2.setPreferredSize(new Dimension (200,200));
    panel2.setBackground(Color.red);
    JPanel panel3 = new JPanel();
    panel3.setPreferredSize (new Dimension (200,200));
    panel3.setBackground(Color.orange);
    JPanel panel4 = new JPanel();
    panel4.setPreferredSize(new Dimension (200,200));
    panel4.setBackground(Color.green);
    Container container = getContentPane ();
    container.setLayout (new GridLayout(4,1));
    container.setBackground (Color.white);
    container.add(panel1);
    panel1.add(test);
    container.add(panel2);
    container.add(panel3);
    container.add(panel4);
    ButtonHandler handler = new ButtonHandler ();
    test.addActionListener (handler);
    setVisible (true);
    public static void main (String args[])
    panels application = new panels ();
    private class ButtonHandler implements ActionListener
    public void actionPerformed (ActionEvent event)
    if (event.getSource () == test)
    panel1.setVisible(true);
    panel2.setVisible(false);
    panel3.setVisible(false);
    panel4.setVisible(false);
    }

    Take a look at this example and you will see that your code is missing a few things.

  • Making Subform Instances Visible/Invisible

    Hello,
          I am trying to loop through the Subform Instances of the form and trying to make them visible/invisible on the click of a Check Box. The script seem to run just fine but the values nothing happens to the subforms. The script is written on the CLICK event of check box and is as below:-
    ----- HAP_DOCUMENT.APR.HAP_DOCUMENT.Positions.DATA.CHECK_BOX::click: - (JavaScript, both) ----------
    var
    nCount = APR.HAP_DOCUMENT.T_ELEMENTS.DATA.instanceManager.count;
    //var plan_value = this.parent.PLANS.rawValue;
    var
    plan_value = this.parent.parent.parent.Storage_Form.PLANS.rawValue;
    for (var nItem = 0; nItem < nCount; nItem++) { // Begin Loop T_ELEMENTS after the Instance is created
    var sub_Tele = "HAP_DOCUMENT.T_ELEMENTS.DATA["+ nItem +"]";
    var tName = "HAP_DOCUMENT.T_ELEMENTS.DATA["+ nItem +"].T_COLL_CELL.DATA";
    var sCount = xfa.resolveNode(tName).instanceManager.count;
    for (var sItem = 0; sItem < sCount; sItem++) { // Second Loop on T_COLL_CELL
    var fName = "HAP_DOCUMENT.T_ELEMENTS.DATA["+ nItem +"].T_COLL_CELL.DATA["+ sItem +"].T_FIELD.DATA";
    var tCount = xfa.resolveNode(fName).instanceManager.count;
    for (aItem = 0; aItem < tCount; aItem++){ // Third Loop on T_FIELD
    var gName = "HAP_DOCUMENT.T_ELEMENTS.DATA["+ nItem +"].T_COLL_CELL.DATA["+ sItem +"].T_FIELD.DATA["+ aItem +"].simpleField.VALUE_STRING";
    var lName = "HAP_DOCUMENT.T_ELEMENTS.DATA["+ nItem +"].T_COLL_CELL.DATA["+ sItem +"].T_FIELD.DATA["+ aItem +"].simpleField.CAPTION";
    var subName = "HAP_DOCUMENT.T_ELEMENTS.DATA["+ nItem +"].T_COLL_CELL.DATA["+ sItem +"].T_FIELD.DATA["+ aItem +"]";
    var aVal = xfa.resolveNode(gName).rawValue;
    var bVal = xfa.resolveNode(lName).rawValue;
    var subVal = xfa.resolveNode(subName).presence;
    if (bVal == "Position Number"){
    if (aVal == plan_value) {
    if ( this.rawValue == 1) {xfa.resolveNode(subName).presence
    = "visible";}
    else {xfa.resolveNode(subName).presence
    = "hidden"; }
    Is there any other way of addressing the properties of the Subform Instances? Could any please help me as to why there is no effect on the subforms?
    Regards,
    Shishir.P

    Is the form saved as dynamic? Are you getting any errors in the javascript console?

  • Making an invisible window visible - problems

    How do I make a currently invisable window named "newwin" visable from the page that launched the window?
    Inside "index.html" I open a new window with the following code:
    var options = new air.NativeWindowInitOptions();
    options.systemChrome = "none";
    options.type = "normal";
    options.transparent = true;
    var windowBounds = new air.Rectangle(20,25,900,600);
    newwin = air.HTMLLoader.createRootWindow(true, options, true, windowBounds);
    newwin.load(new air.URLRequest("skin.html"));
    Inside "skin.html" (launched inside "newwin" window):
    window.nativeWindow.visible = false // works as expected - window becomes invisable
    Now inside "index.html" I have a command to make "newwin" visable again (which isn't working):
    I have tried:
    window.nativeWindow.visible = true (opens up the main application window)
    newwin.nativeWindow.visible = true (TypeError: Undefined value)
    newwin.visible = true (does nothing - no error but doesn't make newwin visable)
    newwin.options.visible = true (TypeError: Undefined value)
    newwin.nativeWindow.options.visible = true (TypeError: Undefined value)
    newwin.activate()  (TypeError: Value undefined does not allow function calls.)
    newwin.nativeWindow.activate() (TypeError: Undefined value)
    all come up with "TypeError: Undefined value"
    How do I make a currently invisable window named "newwin" visable?

    newwin is an HTMLLoader object. To get to the NativeWindow object you can use either newwin.window.nativeWindow or newwin.stage.nativeWindow.
    So:
    newwin.window.nativeWindow.visible = true;
    or:
    newwin.window.nativeWindow.activate();
    should work.

  • Has anyone experienced invisible folders after update to iOS 8.1.2 and subsequent restore from backup on an iPhone 5?

    It's apparent that a folder that was visible on my iPhone 5 while running iOS 8.1.1, is no longer visible after an update and restore on iOS 8.1.2. The folder had several apps I used regularly. They must be on the phone, because after initiating a 'Spotlight Search' for apps in they now invisible folder, the appear listed in the results.
    Has anyone had this occur on their phone after an upgrade to the new iOS version? Is there anyone that can suggest at 'fix' or should i just try to restore again?
    Thanks In Advance,
    Fabian

    So you have checked all of the home screens and the folder does not exist? I've not witnessed hidden folders. Try a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone reboots, see if you can locate it. If not, then you can go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. This should remove all apps from folders and reset your home screens.
