Making pdfs in CS3 from Microsoft Word X w/ Snow Leopard

I just installed Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon computer. Before installing, I effortlessly printed pdfs from Word (Microsoft Office X), but now, although I get the correct dialog boxes, and can go through the process, an icon of the pdf appears on my desktop for a split second, then disappears - the pdf is not made.
Would upgrading to Microsoft Office 2011 fix this problem?

Thanks, Larry,
Yes, it helped, although it led to a rather depressing series of reviews about Acrobat's newer products. I am downloading a free trial of Acrobat X Pro now to see that helps before I go buying anything.
What ever happened to the concept of developers making things better, not worse?! Or was that just a dream I had?

  • Microsoft Word crashes with snow leopard. need help! this is aweful

I installed snow leopard and since then every time i open a word document on my Microsoft word (mac 2008), it crashes and does not open. i can open word and start typing a new doc, save it and then open that one and it works. but if i try to open a document that i created before snow leopard (regular leopard), it crashes right away. please help because i am a college student and i need to access my docs!!!

    Hi all--this worked for me:
    1. Uninstall Office using the Remove Office program.
    2. Remove (trash) the microsoft folder from the fonts folder. Then delete the word plist from your user library preferences folder.
    3. Run disk utility to repair permissions and restart.
    4. Run Snow Leopard cache cleaner and do a deep clean on the cache of your system.
    5. Run Easy Find to find "fontcachetool" (it's an invisiable file, so make sure you enable easyfind to locate invisible files. Trash the fontcachetool file once it's located. Note: I actually had two of these files, and I trashed them both.
    6. Restart.
    7. Run disk utility to repair permissions again, and restart.
    8. Install Office 2008.
    9. Do NOT open any Office programs, and restart.
    10. Install SP 1 (note: I installed this from a disk image. My previous attempts to use the automatic check for updates "feature" in Office to download and install the program did not work--believe me, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office three times before performing the tasks I am listing here. You can download the disk images of the SP here:
    SP 1 (12.1.0): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=395D1487-A3A6-4106-A0F8 -4D6E1D6D89D2&displaylang=en

    Update 3 (12.2.1): http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx?pid=Mactopia_Office2008&fid=9730452B -E6AD-4330-93E4-57F66293BF1C#viewer
    11. Restart
    12. Install 12.2.0. Restart.
    13. Install 12.2.1. Restart
    14. Repair permissions.
    15. Restart.
So far so good. I hope this helps.

  • Microsoft Word 2008 and Snow Leopard

I updated word to 12.2.3? whatever the latest version is. Word cannot open some docx files I created in Word (windows version 2007). Is opens alot of other documents ok, but randomly some files it just locks up and freezes. I have to "ignore or report".
I was doing some search on A.D. here and is it just a font issue? MS didn't have anything in the KB so just needed to post my question here.
    Thanks

    Hi BB623;
There is always the solution I used to solve my dissatisfaction with the lack of support from Microsloth which was to simply get rid of everything that they produce on my Macs. There are other solutions available. I use iWorks which does everything I need. There are also NeoOffice and OpenOffice which other have found to be useful.

  • Making non-standard size pdfs from Microsoft Word 2003 on pc

I have Acrobat 8 Professional (pc, Windows XP op system), and want to know how to make a pdf from Microsoft Word (2003) where the dimensions of my document remain as they are, a non-standard size, such as 5.5" x 8.5". All the choices of "paper size" are standard only, and if I check "Custom" and type in the non-standard dimensions, it doesn't work. In other programs, such as InDesign, I can make a pdf of any document size I want with no problems. Does anyone know how to make this work for Word on pc?

You can create a custom page size for Acrobat.
    In Word:
File > Print (choose AdobePDF) > Properties.
On the Adobe PDF Document Properties tab, choose Add next to Adobe PDF Page Size.
Type in a name for your new custom page size and type in your dimensions.
Click Add/Modify to close that window, then select your newly created paper size from the drop down.
Click Ok to close that window
    Click OK to print
For future printing, you would not have to redefine the page, just choose it from the dropdown.

  • Creating TOC Bookmarks in a PDF created from Microsoft Word

Does anyone know how to modify PDF creation settings so that bookmarks are automatically set from the Table of Contents in the PDF version of a Microsoft Word document? This is possible in Windows using word and Acrobat Pro. But it's not automatic in the OSX-resident PDF creator and I can't find any way to modify preferences. I'm using Word 2004 (11.3.5) for Mac. Thanks!
    iMac 21" Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

  • Printing to PDF from Microsoft Word 2004?

    Greetings,
I'm in the process of completing my masters thesis and am in need of some assistance. The guidelines for my thesis state that title pages must have a 2-inch top margin and 1-inch bottom margin. When I print to paper from Microsoft Word, everything looks great. When I print to PDF from MS Word, the 2-inch top margin changes to 2 & 3/16-inch and the bottom margin cahnges from 1-inch to 1 & 3/8 inch. Is there a reason why this is happening and is there a way to correct this? I don't want to have to go out and purchase Abobe Acrobat Pro just to print this thesis according to the graduate school guidelines.
    Sincerely,
    JBelair

  • Printing to a PDF from Microsoft Word

I need to print to a PDF from Microsoft Word. Is there any way to do so in order to have the hyperlinks in the Word document show up and work in the PDF?

Finally found an answer. The secret is to NOT use the Print function at all, but click the Acrobat Tab in MS Word, then select Preferences and make sure the Links option is ticked, then Click Create PDF. The hyperlinks transfer that way, but not through using Print/Acrobat.

  • Live links in PDFs generated from Microsoft Word 2008?

A couple of years ago, I was informed that my live links (bookmarks, indexmarks, etc.) in documents generated by Microsoft Word 2004 for the Macintosh did not become PDF live links in Acrobat Standard 7 because the Mac version from Microsoft Word 2004 didn't use the necessary hooks (
    i "APIs"
or something like that) even though the Windows version did.
Now that MS Word/MS Office 2008 for the Mac is coming out, will we be able to generate PDFs with such live links.
Any input will be most appreciated.
Acrobat Standard 7.0.9. Tiger 10.4.11. Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

While this does not answer the problem of live links. (You can create them Manually, they just are not generated direct from Office Mac).
The answer to the other question of the little annoying PDFMaker Menu (that never really worked correctly for me (took 5 minutes just to generate a 108K PDF).
Because MicroSoft took out VBA Support on Mac side That rendered the PDFMaker menu useless because it uses VBA to work.
So what they have done in Word 2008 is actually put it as Translator choice on the save menu. They now directly can save Word Files directly as PDF files. once you have created your file and saved it. Then go again to *Save As....* , when menu open scroll mouse down until you run across the choice PDF. select that and save. not only is it easier a 108K document can be saved in about 15 seconds or less not the old 5 minutes going through PDFMaker.
One of PDFMaker's failings was that each step of conversion it called up Distiller which first created a .PS file. Then it checked the file. Then created the PDF file. Then checked the file again before actually writing the PDF File. Then only after checking the written PDF, would it delete the invisible PS file. Finally the PDF file was created. Naturally with all the check steps if you have a very large file could take ages.
With word's new feature (2008) you can generate a PDF at blinding speeds.

  • Why do Certain fonts change when I convert to PDF from Microsoft word?  They start out 60s chic and end up as a standard font.

Why do some fonts change when converted from Microsoft word to PDF?  It starts out as 60s chic and changes to standard font.

Related to the question, I suspect you have licensed fonts that cannot be embedded. Thus, the PDF is using what it is finding to be an equivalent as well as it can guess. Did you check the font list in the PDF?

  • If I convert a PDF file to a Microsoft Word file can I delete pictures from the converted file

If I convert  PDF file to a Microsoft Word file can I delete pictures from the converted file?

    Hi sutterrot,
After a successful conversion from PDF to Word, you need to download the converted file locally on your computer.
You can then choose 'Enable Editing' button and then delete images/text or make other changes.

  • Importing text from Microsoft Word documents

Can anyone offer recommendations or tips on the Import feature?  I am considering use of import for a vast amount of content from Microsoft Word documents.  I am using DW CS3 and I have heard good and bad about the import feature.  I would like to try to make it work for me and to make sure I'm using it correctly.  Many thanks! Ms. Gill

I hate to say this, but don't do that.
Ms. Web Editor (may I call you Web?), I regularly input stuff my clients send me from Microsoft Word. I never attempt an HTML conversion from Microsoft. It's just too dirty.
Instead, what I do is I copy paragraphs into Dreamweaver's Code View window, putting a <p> and a </p> before and after them.
If there are headings and sub headings in Word, I simply make them into lines without HTML, then press [Command]-1 or [Command]-2 to make those lines into <h1> or <h2> tags.
I never try to export from Word. Microsoft does not know how to create clean HTML and CSS. It is always a losing proposition to trust that they do.

  • Pasting text that was copied from microsoft word 2008

In dreamweaver CS3, if I want to paste text that I have
copied from Microsoft Word 2008, i have to paste it in entourage,
copy that and THEN I can paste in dreamweaver. I can't paste
directly in Dreamweaver from word. is there an extension that will
    cut out this extra step?
    Thanks much,

I just copied two paragraphs of text from Word 2008, and
    pasted it into DW's
    Design view. No tables.
What is it you are copying?

  • Is there a way I can easily manipulate tables from Microsoft Word in Illustrator?

So my boss has a lot of tables from microsoft word that she wants to move into Illustrator in hopes that this will be easier for her to manipulate them. However, her main concern is that she wants to be able to easily edit the content of the tables without having to individually adjust each row or cell. Is there a way to move microsoft word tables into illustrator in a way that when adding new content, the rows and cells adjust to fit the text?
I've played around with tables in illustrator in a few different ways trying to make this work, like using the area type tool options to add rows and columns to a text box, using the rectangular grid tool, and simply copying and pasting tables from word into Illustrator. I've run into the same issue each time, which was that I could pretty easily change the text, but when it comes to resizing the cells, it's pretty similar to word.
Is there any way I can make this work in Illustrator? Or would this be possible with another program like Photoshop or Indesign?
    Any advice is appreciated.

We are going to try InDesign, thank you
