Malfunction/mouse delay

dear people
while working with my mac, after a couple of hours the mouse suddenly starts to get slowly and less precisely.
Then the program stops and I have to restart the program or the computer.
this happens with almost every program.
after restarting the computer it all happens all over again
is there anyone who knows about this problem and the solution?
thank you in advance / regards
richard van ligten

Drahcir,
It would help us to know which G5 iMac "model" you have & how much RAM, etc. You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by going to 'preferences' which is located in the column on the right under your name, click on "My Settings" and filling in the information asked for.
This will help in providing you with the proper and/or correct troubleshooting solutions.
Thank You.
PS: If you do not know the model of your Mac, see Knowledge Base Article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301724#301724 How to identify your iMac
Thank you
====================
It would help if you indicate what type of mouse you are using. If you are using the Mighty Mouse the following you may find useful.

  • Mouse delay in Photoshop CS

Been happily using PS CS daily for several years. All of a sudden, I am now experiencing a delay between my mouse commands and PS. eg. I select the clone brush. When I want to set the area to clone, I hold alt key and click left mouse button. It takes a second or two before it actually registers my command. Before it was instant. Same as if I want to enlarge the window size of an image. It takes a second or two before the pointer changes to allow me to drag the window larger. It never used to be like this. It was always instant. It is VERY frustrating.
I haven't upgraded or installed anything that may have caused this. I am running XP SP3 on a quad core PC for 4GB RAM. This PC is NOT connected to the Internet as it is my work station and I need it to be reliable. I have tried the obvious rebooting and tweaking memory usage all to no avail. I really don't want to uninstall/reinstall as I have a lot of plugins installed and no real time to do this.
Can anyone shed some light on how I might fix this problem??
    Thanks for any input,
    Copey

Thanks for the quick reply Noel.
Nothing has been installed on the PC in last 3 months. Problem started yesterday.
No hardware changes in 8 months.
I have not changed anything in the BIOS.
    No bad power restart.
The whole system is only 8 months old.
I have checked the Event Log and there is nothing evident.
This ONLY happens with Photoshop. No problems with any of my other programs including ImageReady and Premiere. This indicates to me that it is a problem with Photoshop specifically.
    Thanks

  • Magic mouse delay in scrolling

When I scroll through pages in pdf documents, there is a definite response delay, which is very annoying. Any ideas on how to fix this?

No.  There is no scroll ball; the cursor movement is controlled through the sensor in the bottom (near the green light).
Is that green light showing as on?   You could try cleaning the sensor with a damp, not wet, cotton bud and white vinegar.   Disconnect the batteries first.

  • Citrix Secure Gateway over https reverse proxy - mouse delay

    Hello,
i've a citrix secure gateway 3.1 server behind BM 3.9 SP2. I've configured a https reverse proxy to the gateway webserver. the citrixfarm is in our internal lan. My problem is, that i've very strange delays in citrix applications with mouse movement. The delay is about 1-2 seconds. If i connect directly from the DMZ to the gatway server, no delay was happend? So, my idea is, that the reverse proxy is the problem? Any idea would help!
Is it possible to create filter exceptions, delete the reverse proxy, and connct directly per SSL to the citrix secure gateway server. If yes, can anyone tell me the filter exception rules.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Mouse - delay....

Are you getting a delay in response from your mouse when you close certain applications and/or windows?
Everytime I go and close a window with Cmd-W, there is a delay of about a second or so before my mouse reacts. It sort of lies there, and I can't move the pointer - but I can press the mouse button, if it's already lying on something pressable.
Normally I'm used to flying by from one thing to another so fast that this delay is becoming really annoying.
Apple - please do a quick fix.
I have 2 Gigs RAM, this shouldn't be happening. And it doesn't matter what sort of application it is, it happens with every window.

Uncheck the 'Ignore accidental trackpad input' box in your Keyboard & Mouse preferences. This clears up the delay when you switch from typing to tracking quickly.

  • Mouse Delay After Typing

    Hi!
After I press a key, the trackpad is disabled for about 1 or 2 seconds afterwards. My previous Lenovo laptop's trackpad had a PalmCheck setting which, when disabled, would eliminate the problem. However, my Flex 15's Alps trackpad settings dialog doesn't have that (at least not that I saw). There's a Palm Size option, but setting it to the widest option doesn't help.
    Thanks in advance!

Are your songs and apps still restoring?
It may be a bad install too.
    Try this:
    First backup then
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
After it finishes, restore from backup (iTiunes/iCloud)

  • Logitech V270 BT mouse - I'm not satisfied

Friday I bought a Logitech V270 BT mouse. As I already own a wireless apple keyboard, my idea was to get a BT mouse so that I don't have to use an additional USB-receiver. The wireless mighty mouse hasn't convinced me because the button selection by the sensors isn't much working fine. So I decided to buy a V270 and I must say that this device is a big disappointment! The awakening time from energy saving mode is about 0.5 seconds. This is definitely too much! Furthermore the tracking is very bad. I tried several surfaces and never I got a smooth tracking, although the mouse got a 1000dpi resolution. While booting the mouse delays the start of the wireless keyboard which makes me wait for logging in. This all is not acceptable to me.
So, why do I write all this? I want to tell everybody who intends to buy this mouse to think it over if he can live with this limitations. As I spent about two days for searching a suitable BT mouse I was very disappointed. Also I found nearly no hints about this limitations in the internet forums.
I finally brought it back to store and got a MX610 which works fine! A smooth and save tracking, perfect anatomical fit and a short, hardly noticable wakening time from energy saving mode. This is a mouse I'm happy with!

  • Is there a way to simulate a mouse click anywhere on a screen in Dictate ?

I'm using Dictate because of hand problems. Unfortunately, it does not seem to have the ability as supplied to simulate mouse clicks anywhere on the screen as Dragon Naturally Speaking does on the Windows side.( I do not mean by this the ability to select an item in the menu, which It does have the built in ability to do.) It can, however, so I read, be scripted to do a lot of things. Is there an Applescript out there that would allow for the simulation of mouse clicks anywhere on the screen (as opposed to just on a UI item)?

Platform: 2.2 gHz iMac using Mac OS X 10.5.5; Dictate v. 1.2.1 Build
Okay, so, here, after a great deal of research, is a procedure for implementing a single mouse click anywhere on the screen. Since it’s a procedure, I’m detailing each step.
!. Download the scripting addition (sometimes known as an OSAX) xTool.sax from: http://lestang.org/osax/XTool/XTool-2.0.dmg.tgz. You will have to decompress the file (StuffIt) and double-click it to get it to unfold into a .dmg (disk image) file. In this file you will find the file Xtool.osax. Drag it into your MacHD (or whatever the name of your topmost volume is)/library/ScriptingAdditions (no spaces in the name) folder. The purpose of this is to place it into a folder where Applescript is expecting to find scripting additions. In other words, it’s hard-coded and you can’t just drop it anywhere because Applescript may not find it. Also, there may be more than one Library folder in other directories. Under 10.5.5. which I’m running, I can tell you it works where I placed it.
The effect all of this has is that when you create your script in Dictate’s New Commands window (Script Editor), Dictate will know what the commands “click mouse’ and “position of the mouse” mean. These are not standard Applsecript commands but are additions, hence the name Scripting Additions.
    2. Start Dictate and in the File drop-down select New Command. This will take you to a window with a pane on the left with names such as Applications, Global, and several others. Click on Global (so that the command will be recognized no matter what application your are in). To the right of the pane you will see a number of commands listed by name and, underneath, a (very small) “+” (and a minus sign and a small icon). Ignore everything but the “+”. Click on the “+”.
Below several boxes will appear: Command, Description, Context, Type.
In Command Name type in the name you want Dictate to recognize to do the click. (I call mine Mouse click.) In Description you can type something like Single-clciks the mouse. In the Context drop-down make sure to select Global. In the Type drop-down, select Applescript.
Paste the following into Text Edit (orTexEdit Plus,if you have that):
    click mouse {(position of the mouse), [1]}
For reasons unknown to me, you can’t just select that text, copy, and paste it into Dictate’s Script Editor winodw. You will have to select it in Text Edit and drag it into the Source text box.
Click on the Compile button at the left bottom. After it finishes compiling (a matter of seconds if everything is normal), click on the Run button with your mouse. If all has gone well, you will very likely see the Run button get pressed repeatedly. Take your mouse off the button so it stops blinking like mad. (The Mouse click Appplescript is repeatedly looking at the position it find itself and clicking again, and again.)
While your mileage may vary, I have been able to simulate single mouse-click using this workaround.
So far, I have not been able to simulate a double-click reliably. There is, I believe, an issue with the amount of time between the two clicks (a parameter of the click mouse command above which I did not go into here). For anyone out there who wants to work on that, I would be glad to hear your results. I’ve tried values up to 2000 in the DELAY parameter after the TIMES parm. Here is what the dictionary shows for this command.
    click mouse?v
click mouse [point] : where to do the mouse click
[times integer] : how many times you want to clik the mouse
[delay integer] : delay between two mouse clicks
[using primary button/secondary button/middle button] : which mouse button
If I get this to work I will let my fellow sufferers know.
Thanks to Hiroto and Andrew99 in particular for their help.

  • Toggle mighty Mouse button 3

I need some way of easily toggling the action of the third button (clicking the scroll wheel) on a might mouse.
I have to access several programs on a remote site via a java citrix server that can only be accessed via a secured web web site (don't ask! security gone mad).
For these programmes - effectively PC and X11 programmes run through a web portal - I need the middle mouse button to act as a "button 3".
Most of the time, I'd like it to activate dashboard.
My first thought was that I could have a simple AppleScript sitting in the dock that would determine what the button was currently set to, and toggle to to other setting. I can't use USB Overdrive, as that would only set the button push for the application (in this case FireFox) - and I need it set only for particular actions within FireFox (it's not even for a particular page).
I've tried modifying a selection of applescripts I've come across, but I'm obviously missing something (I'm done virtually no applescripting) and get a variety of errors - I think based on the fact that I can't find how to reference the pop up menu for the button 3.
    So far I have:
-- activate System Preferences Keyboard & Mouse pane
    tell application "System Preferences"
    activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.keyboard"
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    get properties
    tell process "System Preferences"
-- activate the "Mouse" tab - seems to be a radio button
click radio button "Mouse" of tab group 1 of window "Keyboard & Mouse"
    delay 1
-- ** this is where I need to get the current value of the third mouse button and then set it to the other state **
    end tell
    end tell
-- and close system preferences again
    tell application "System Preferences"
    quit
    end tell
Can anyone help me fill in the missing (vital!) bit of code?
Or show a better way of doing it.
Ideally I would also switch the actions of the F9, F10, F11 & F12 to F1, F2, F3 & F4 as well (these are used by the programs concerned) - but I can leave these permenantly set without too much hassle at the moment
    Thanks

0 replies...really?  Sad face.  Congrats, Mac.  You are becoming the new Windows.  I wonder who will arise to take the place in the market that Apple used to occupy?  You know, that place where computers, devices, and software just plain worked?  Where Operating Systems were tested thoroughly before release?  Ah, those were the days.  Shame on you, Apple.

  • CS4- Problem with mouse /element selection

My son is working in CS4 an is experiencing this issue - If he clicks once over a vector element in an illustration, then moves the curser to another area, the curser then places the element that was clicked on move to that spot on the artboard. Not real familiar with this attribute. Have reinstalled the application and gone through Preferences but can't find anything. Any ideas?

The cursor of which tool? Regarding your description, you mean nothing happens while moving the cursor but when stop moving it the previously clicked object appears there? Never heard of this before, but the closest behavior to this is dragging which is  clicking and holding the mouse button while moving the cursor. This however will show the outline of the object while being dragged. If the mouse button is not pressed but the object is dragged one possible reason is malfunctioning mouse button due to wear, tear, or dirt that causes the button to get stuck in a pressed state.

  • IMac Intel slow keyboard and mouse response

I have an iMac running Snow Lepard that within the last two days is experiencing keyboard and mouse delays, about 10 seconds or more and I am seeing the rotating ball.  The keyboard is directly attached while the mouse is bluetooth but both experience delays.  I can type something and then 10 seconds later it will catch up.  Same thing happens if I try to scroll down with either the keyboard or mouse.  I do not see the spinning ball during this tim, I only see it when I change applications.  I have more than 20 percent memory.  I shut down and unplugged for greater than 15 seconds.  When it came back up I saw a grey screen with white and black tiny squares.

    Hi erahi,
It's not the update that's the problem. That update has been used successfully by millions. What probably happened was that there were some pre-existing issues you didn't even know about and the update exacerbated them. But why are you updating to 10.5.3 instead of 10.5.4?
    Let's test this first:
Try starting in "Safe Mode" (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If that works go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.

  • I have ? marks on the dock on my eMac now ++

    Hi,
My eMac had been running a bit slow but also my keyboard may odd sounds (clicking) and typed very slow and I could not open folders or even .pdf files on my desk top, I did make adjustments under System preferences under keyboard and mouse (delay etc) some how that got corrupted and that seems to have corrected it
    My eMac specs=
(eMac 1.25 ghz 1GB ram 80GB HD (all stock from Apple Education Store) and running
    OSX 10.3.9)
I ran Disk Warrior , no change and no major issues reported (other than may have been repaired) , I ran applejack (twice)ran Disk utility to verify and then repair permissions and then applejack AUTO for a deeper run (?thats when the ? marks on the dock showed up (when You move the mouse over the ? mark it identifies what it is and when you hold the mouse down over the ? mark it says on all three of their names and to look in finder(may not be the exact term)The ? mark items are WMV player (found it using file find) , other two are IDVD and iMovie HD (using file find I could not locate as a application itself, most (using DVD and Movie under two file find (individual) search's (results= were
in the library as pkg or mpkg , I am running Omni Disk Warrior now to see if the show up, I did locate DVD player (my eMac has a CD-RW and DVD reader not a super-drive so I can not burn DVD's but baffled as to what is transpiring (I have the Ilife install install disks if needed that came with the eMac and the Operating system disks and the utility disks that came either with the eMac or with the Apple Care that I purchased. (*Note this eMac has a replaced logic board
it did fail (under warranty) and was in that serial number , time frame where the boards failed regularly, mine just went black screen one day, sure I would like a new computer but I am not in the market nor $$ ready (I hope they cut the Imac prices down but thats wishful thinking) (never know)
    * One Thought (though I did not make these applications/files such is ? invisible files (got that way some how? ) One other thing is in the very beginning fairly large symbols would show up on the screen at random (one frequent one looked like

    Hi,
(I guess I could have edited my original post but I found this (where else but Help on the toolbar and used "dock question" as my search tearm and this came back (as the first on the list)
The Dock contains a question mark icon (this was the title) and below the answer (only thing (unless I am misinterpreting the answer) is I did not delete the applications) and I am he sole user of this computer, we have 3 Mac's and one HP PC in the house on a network)
Omni Disk Sweaper did not find Imovie HD or IDVD (fragments yes and a .pkg (? installer
    but in library/receipts)
I can do below but I need to reinstall fro the Ilife desk or ? use Subrasoft File Salvage which we have but ? not sure if the license is expired etc.
If you delete an application or document that has an icon in the Dock, the
Dock icon changes to a question mark.
To remove the question mark icon:
    Drag it from the Dock.
To add a new item to the Dock, locate the item and drag its icon to the
    Dock.

  • A syntaxic question...

    Hi guys,
I've posted about this on this very forum before, but I can't find my own question... and the answers that you people provided, so I'll do it again: what's wrong with the following, knowing that I have Developer Tools installed and that I clearly remember writing a script along those lines a long time ago, when I was still using Tiger?
    Here goes:
    "move mouse
    720, 450 {from left, from top}"
Where the goal is to move the mouse pointer center screen on startup (don't bother about compiling and saving as an app, just about the right syntax). Something's missing, but I can't put my finger on it...

The app developer once told me that the delay in activating the mouse was built-in, because it took the Trackpad some time (usually no more than a second or two) to fully activate. So I guess I can't get anything better than what I already have: at least I don't accidentally trigger the Apple menu by trying to move my mouse pointer to screen center...
Well, trying to stress my brain to figure out an impossible solution.
FWIW, here's the code, before modification:
    move mouse {720, 450} -- {from left, from top}
    click mouse
    delay 0.1
    click mouse
    delay 0.1
    move mouse {730, 460} -- {from left, from top}
I'm going to add a two-second delay between the two mouse clicks, just in case. I'll keep you posted. As for the compliment, it's amply deserved, and I'm not the only one on this forum who says so...
I you are trying to simulate a double click, you need to make the delay closer to what a human would do. Two seconds will most likely turn the double click into two single click.
    2
All this is probably not need since you fessed up to it being a driver problem.
    Cheers!
Thanks again for your rewarding comments.

  • Mac Pro Mystery Problem!

    Hi there,
I have an issue whereby my Mac Pro will only boot up in safe mode. In normal mode, the graphics are not responding quickly enough to any actions. I.E, dropped pixels, stuck mouse, delayed actions, a total nightmare. have defragged all my drives with Drive Genius, reset PRAM, thrown away preferences and renewed them and still the problem persists. I thought it might be the graphic card but it all works perfectly in safe mode. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be really grateful. Here's my spec:
    Mac Pro
    2 x 2.66 Ghz
    Dual Core Intel Zeon
    2GB Ram
    4 bays:
    1. Tiger system drive
    2. Snow Leopard drive (my main system drive)
    3. Full content
    4. iTunes, Iphoto libraries

You realize you skipped mentioning WHAT graphics card?
X1900? you know those have to be pulled couple times a year to clear the dust from the chamber?
The 7300GT? those are having problems and failing now.
8800GT? not everyone but a lot of people have had trouble - new OS seems like it stresses more.
The fact that you have Tiger tells us this belongs in and is about 1st generation ("Previous") rather than Early 2009 2.66 models.
For me, I do two things: clone system with SuperDuper, and rebuild with Disk Warrior. Sounds to me like an issue for Disk Warrior or heat (and FBDIMMs run hot and can also fail after 4 yrs).
But pull the card, check the power cable and dust, and SmcFanControl 2.2.x can help keep more air circulating and cooling.
