Manage Workspace Instance settings in APEX Administration

I would like to change the printing settings in my workspace Instance settings. But, I can't find the "Manage Instance" option mentioned in the tutorials. Can anyone offer any guidance?

What version of APEX are you using?
This is where the printing settings are in 4.2:
1) Login as the Admin User (Internal)
2) Click on the 'Manage Instance' Icon/Tab.
3) Click on 'Instance Settings' in the Instance Settings section.
4) Scroll down to the 'Report Printing' option

    Hi
I upgraded my APEX instance from 4.1 to 4.2 and now I can't go to (INTERNAL) Manage Instance->Instance Settings I see only ORA-28817: PL/SQL function returned an error. :(
    Who can help me ?

As with some others reporting, I got the dreaded ORA-28817 when attempting to manage the instance settings.
I upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2 a few months back. After reading some of the comments here, I tried applying the Patch Release 4.2.1.00.08 which claims to fix it - but alas - no joy - still can't manage the instance settings.
I can also get the error via the command line:
    exec apex_instance_admin.set_parameter('WALLET_PWD',Null);
    BEGIN apex_instance_admin.set_parameter('WALLET_PWD',Null); END;

  • Instance Settings: Wallet path and wallet password

What is the purpose of the wallet settings in the instance settings for apex if you are using the modplsql instead of the XDB http server. Do you still need to set the wallet if you are doing ssl and the oracle app server with modplsql.

Am I understanding correctly that if I select "Replace the default Microsoft template" in my GPO that ONLY my custom templates will be used? This means that, for instance, the IE settings that are available out of the
    box will not be captured?
It will use all of the templates in the settings template catalog only. The local copies that are installed by the agent will be deleted. This setting must be used with the configuration setting parameter ‘RegisterMSTemplates’ set to true. Please see the
section titled ‘Replace the inbox Microsoft Templates’ in the TechNet article ‘Planning for Custom Template Deployment for Desktop Applications in UE-V 2.0’.
If that's the case how do I use a template such as this one from the template gallery that says, "To use it just delete or move the original DesktopSettings.xml from your Location Template store and copy EnhancedWorkSpace.xml
    to the store location."
The creator of that template states that ‘I just mentioned to disable the DesktopSettings.xml template because my template already includes the Default values from that template.’
In the Q&A section of that template
Would it be better to just remove all the default templates and use only the ones I need? Where would I get a copy of the default ones so I can put them in my settings template path if I want to use them?
When you install the agent on a client, the default templates are stored in the
install\templates directory. The default is c:\program files\Microsoft User Experience Virtualization\Templates. You can copy these to the settings template catalog location to use them even with the above settings. Note: Once you
set the GP to replace the default Microsoft templates, the default templates on the clients are deleted. If you have this setting turned on, you may need to install to a machine that is not governed by this GP setting in order to get the default templates.
    Hope this helps,

  • Programmatically configure email instance settings

I am looking to configure the Email Instance Settings of our Production apex environment and am hoping this can be done programmatically to reduce the complexity of the pending release.
Is there an API, Procedure or Package I can call that will set the required values (Servername and Port) without having to unlock the builder, log into the INTERAL workspace and make the changes via the GUI?
    Thanks for any help.
    Duncs

    Hi Duncs,
you may have a look into the APEX Administration Guide concerning managing runtime environments, especially section "Configuring Email in a Runtime Environment".

The above link is for APEX 4.0. If you use an older version of APEX, use the corresponding document.

P.S.: I just found a little doc-bug. The documentation refers to
    BEGIN
       APEX_INSTANCE_ADMIN.GET_PARAMETER(PARAMETER_NAME, PARAMETER_VALUE);
END;where of the call should be
    BEGIN
       APEX_INSTANCE_ADMIN.SET_PARAMETER(PARAMETER_NAME, PARAMETER_VALUE);
    END;Parameters SMTP_FROM, SMTP_HOST_ADDRESS and SMTP_HOST_PORT appear to be correct.

  • Online help not working on Manage Workspaces page in admin UI

I just updated two of our APEX instances to 3.12 today and found the help link returns a "Not Found" on the "Manage Workspaces" main page in the admin UI (minor issue, but nevertheless I thought I might post it):
    Not Found
The requested URL /i/doc/adm_mg_wrkspc_pg.htm was not found on this server.
However - this seems to be the only page where this happens (so far).
I noticed that the directory structure below .../images/doc changed from 3.10 to 3.12 - looks like the update for the help link from within the app might have been forgotten as it still tries to access the old path to that page.

  • Problem with logging in to Apex administration

Please disregard the question, it was mistake in the address.
When I try to log in to Apex administration (http://<server>:8080/apex_admin, I get a dialog box requiring
    a user name and password
The dialog box has Windows security in the header and says:
The server <server> at XDB requires a username and password.
Fields for username and password are provided.
It's not clear to me what this message refers to, XDB database schema or Apex or system. I tried all combinations but without success.
Logging in to application administration (http://<server>:8080/apex) works without problems.
Apex is running on Oracle 11.1.
This behavior was first encountered on Windows 7, but the same happens if I log in to the server (running Windows XP) via remote desktop and use localhost as the server name.
    Has anyone experienced this?

    Hello Sin K,
so proxy and Tomcat are located on different machines as well? Is the proxy able to commuicate with the Tomcat on the configured internal ports and is the proxy able to lookup the hostname you configured for the Tomcat?
For the connector, the proxyName and proxyPort should be the parameters the client uses to call APEX. So if your clients should call via http://proxyserver:8080/testsin/apex the settings would be
    proxyName=proxyserver
proxyPort=8080Reason for this is that applications (e.g. the APEX Listener) generate there URL references with these parameters.
But does your proxy actually serve on port 8080? And is that port accessible by clients? Do clients accept cookies from that server?
In my case, there is only one 302 which redirects to http://host:port/apex/f?p=4500:1000:sessionid which is correct.
If you look into your first post request in firebug, what's in the request header?

  • Gws - A helper to manage workspaces composed of git repositories

    Hi everyone,
I recently wrote a small bash script for my own needs. I called it gws for Git WorkSpace.
    gws
It is a KISS, bash, colorful, vundle-inspired helper to manage workspaces composed of git repositories.
    License: MIT
    Website: http://streakycobra.github.io/gws/
    Github: https://github.com/StreakyCobra/gws
    Installation
A package is available in AUR: gws. There is also a git version for development version, just in case someone is interested: gws-git
    Briefly
I encourage you to read the README file on github or the github-pages to get started, because:
This is just a very brief introduction
It takes me a lot of time to write it
That being said, you start by creating a list of projects on which you are working (with their associated urls) in a .projects.gws file in the desired "workspace" folder:
    perso/gws | https://github.com/StreakyCobra/gws.git
    perso/teafree | https://github.com/StreakyCobra/teafree.git
    archlinux/habs | https://github.com/StreakyCobra/gws.git
Then you can update your repository with:
    gws update
That will clone the repositories which don't exist yet. Then you just have to hack as usual in your repositories. After a long day of coding, you probably didn't remember which repositories have changed, which where pushed and so on. This is where the principal command shows up:
    gws
It displays (see screenshots below) the state of each repository, allowing you to take action for repositories you think that need it.
You can also share the projects file to have exactly the same folder structure in all your computers for instance. But there is also some other functionalities, like an ignore file and a check command. Have a look at the README to get started.

kniren wrote:This is great! One of these tools that you don't know that you need until you know they exist
Glad to see you find it useful. I hope you will enjoy it too.
If you want to try, I just added a new functionality: `fetch`, that do a `git fetch` before showing the status of all repositories. For me it is useful when I am going to take the train and I want to be sure to have the latest code on my laptop. I didn't implement it as default for the `status` command because it is quite slow, and require to have ssh-agent installed to avoid reentering the passphrase multiple time for ssh repositories.
It is available in the `gws-git` package right now.

  • Apex Administration Service as Select Statement

    Hi there,
I just wanted to check the "page views by user" and the "page views by application" for the last 2 years via the Apex Administration Tool, but I saw that it is restricted to maximum 1 year (Apex Version 1.6.0.00.87).
Can someone tell me the Select Statements that are fired by these requests so that I can modify them an run it e.g. via SQL-Workshop in my Workspace?
    Would be of great help.
    Thank you!
    Johnny

    Johnny,
The logs switch after 14 days (loosely speaking), so you get 28 days of logging on a system with continuous activity.
You can copy these records periodically for archival from the view apex_activity_log (wwv_flow_activity_log in 1.6) and you can write your own reports against that data, of course.

  • Managing Workspace Users

I have been looking back through the apex_util APIs and notice there are a lot of API for managing workspace users. In the past the Apex team have not encouraged the use of Workspace users for application authentication schemes, is this a change in stance or would the team still recommend other authentication schemes?
I notice that the APEX_WORKSPACE_APEX_USERS view does not include the FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME or the ID of a user. If you wanted to build your own interface to manage workspace users, how would you do this without access to that information? I can see APIs to return the names but how do you determine the ID for a user?
    Shunt

    Hello Shunt,
    >> I can see APIs to return the names but how do you determine the ID for a user?
The apex_util API include several options to retrieve APEX users information. You can use the ‘fetch_user’ procedure to retrieve all the available information for a specific user; you can use ‘get_user_id’ to retrieve the user ID of any user (providing you have ADMIN privileges) and tou can use ‘get_current_user_id’ to retrieve the current user ID (and compare it with your table, etc.). You can find the documentation in here - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10513_01/doc/apirefs.310/e12855/apex_util.htm#CHDIEDJH .
    >> would the team still recommend other authentication schemes?
I can’t speak for the team (I’m not part of it) but I don’t see a connection between exposing more APEX API to the users, and any authentication schemes policy they might, or might not have. In any case, authentication policy is something that should be determined according to the specific needs of your organization. In some cases the APEX authentication can be good enough, and for others hardly enough. I believe it would be irresponsible to recommend any kind of security policy without knowing specific details of the working environment.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • How do you manage multiple Instances of an adjustment

I'm trying very hard to learn Aperture but, one thing that I can't seem to figure out is how to manage multiple instances of the same adjustment. As an example, I create a new exposure adjustment to brush in exposure on the subjects teeth and then a second exposure adjustment to bush in an exposure on a tree in the background and a third instance to brush in exposure to some other element in the photograph - how do I know which exposure brick adjusts which element in the photo. I guess I could use the overlay to identify the element associated with each adjustment brick but that seem kind of heavy handed.  Is there a better way to associate each instance of an adjustment brick with the elements in the photograph it impacts?

Frank has answered your question.  I have a follow-up question:

Are you able to apply multiple Exposure Bricks?  I have never been able to do that.
The workflow you describe seems to derive from Photoshop (with it's named layers).  Aperture is by design more focused on the end result than the process.  I tend to use as few multiple Bricks as possible.  I do vary the strength of the Brush when brushing in different parts of the Image within the same Brick.
