Managed to Admin server connection
I've seen many posts on troubles with connecting to an Admin server. I think mines new. Here's the command and the output. Any help?

I've got Beta 2 running. Any idea what would cause an Unauthorized exception? The admin server is logging a request and marking it as a 401 error.

Stop managed server without node manager and admin server
What are the commonly used ways to stop managed Weblogic server without node manager running and without administration server running?
(I have only one solution: on the managed server startup dump process ID to a file, and then when I want to stop it, send a signal to this process ID and kill JVM. But it seems not very clean way.)
(The managed server is started when both node manager and admin server are down, and I provide boot.properties of admin server to the managed server to start.)
UPDATED: And I don't want to start neither admin server, nor node manager even temporarily.

I read the Oracle weblogic wlst script document without Admin server you cannot connect the managed server through the WLST script. see the below lines
"The start command starts Managed Servers or clusters in a domain using Node Manager.
To use the start command, WLST must be connected to a running Administration Server.
To start Managed Servers without requiring a running Administration Server, use the
nmStart command with WLST connected to Node Manager."
"You shut down a server to which WLST is connected by entering the shutdown command
without any arguments.
When connected to a Managed Server instance, you only use the shutdown command to shut
down the Managed Server instance to which WLST is connected; you cannot shut down another
server while connected to a Managed Server instance.
WLST uses Node Manager to shut down a Managed Server. When shutting down a Managed
Server, Node Manager must be running.
In the event of an error, the command returns"
They are two option if you are using adminserver then we can stop the any Managed server.
The option is if you are using the nodemanager without admin server we can stop the any Managed server.
The last final solution to kill the particular Managed server pid.

Lion Server Admin, Server, connection and authentication issues.
I'm going out of my mind... I'd appreciate any help
Mac OS X Server 10.7.2
Mac Mini Server (no optical drive. dual hard drives) 2.66 C2D / 4GB RAM
So... I open Workgroup Manager, select menu: Server > Connect. Then Enter:
Address = Server.local
User Name = Server Administrator
and my password.
Press the Connect button and it successfully opens the Workgroup Manager window and I can edit users etc. all perfecty fine.
I can also confirm that the Server Administrator user has "administer this server" ticked on.
Now the trouble begins...
I open Server (ie. the new Lion Server application).
It shows me the "Choose a Mac" window. Two entries:
1. "This Mac - Server"
2. "Other Mac"
I click the first entry & it slides down the sheet for entering username and password. I enter exactly the same details as above and the sheet shakes left and right, essentially behaving as if I'd entered the wrong password. Despite the fact that it's the same password as above.
I try it from another machine as well, just to be sure, and I get the same result.
Then I open Server Admin.
At some point recently, I recall having essentially the same problem. An attempt to connect to the server shook the authentication sheet essentially suggesting wrong password.
More recently, Server.local now doesn't even show up in the Available Servers section.
If I try Add Server from the Server menu. Then Enter the same details above I get a "Could not connect..." message.
So... I'm kinda baffled. What on earth is going on? The three different apps are telling me different things. One works perfectly, one says it's running fine but I can't authenticate, and the other says it doesn't even exist.
For what it's worth, I've tried using Workgroup Manager (the one thing that will connect and authenticate) to change/reset the password for the Server Administrator user, but no matter what I set it to I'm still getting all the same results as above.
If anyone can give me any help here I'd be very grateful!!

Programmatically start/stop applications without admin server connection
I know I can programmatically start/stop an application through WebLogic's deployment API, but the call needs to go through admin server. I was wondering if there's a way for an application to start/stop another application on the same managed server when the admin server is down. I remember a managed server could be started without an admin server (unless it's started for the first time). So I suppose there must be some way to programmatically start/stop local applications without an admin server as well.

Script to start/stop all manager sever/Admin server
Hi Gurus,
I am new bee to weblogic and learning it on daily basic.
I have a scenario and would like to see if this is possible.
We have one server and have couple of applications are running like SOA,OSB, OSR etc. During any downtime, we have to shut down each Admin Server, Manage server one by one and take up. This take time and effort too.
Do we have some options through which we can configure all start/stop script in one file and do this work with few clicks. server shout down should be clean and take care of node manager recycle also.
Could you please advise me on this or pls point me towards some already documented solution. I goggled this but did not find.Thanks radoui for your response.
I see this approach as the default one.. Could you please advice me whats the correct sequence of shutting down the servers including node manager and starting back.
Like I have SOA installed.
So First I have to take down SOA managed server followed by Admin server and then node manager ..? Let me know if this is not correct.
I still have doubt on this approach as if, managed server failed to stop and means while script will take down admin server and so on.. -

If an Admin server resides on the same node as Managed servers:
(1) Can the Admin server create, monitor, and restart a Node Manager or is the persistance of the Node Manager strictly the responsibility of the operating system (UNIX daemon, Windows service, or Tandem generic-process)?
(2) Can the Admin server role and Node Manager role be contained in the same process ?1) The persistence of the nodemanager has to be configured by OS.
2) No, node manager is not tied to a domain (it is domain agnostic) and it is a separate process. In WLS 9, the nodemanager can monitor and manage the admin server also

Building a backup admin server.....need urgent support
Scenario :
Box (Machine) A has admin server and few manager servers for domain “test”. And few managed server on box B. Managed server of box A and box B are currently handled through admin server on box A. Also node manager is configured to start and stop the servers of box A and box B.
Now in case, box A goes down physically. I want to have one back up admin server on box C,through which I can handle the managed server on box B.
For this I take steps:
Step1
Keep a frequent back of below mentioned folder on box C from box A.
1. wlsHome \user_projects\domains\<domain name>\config
2. wls home\user_projects\domains\<domain name>\servers\AdminServer\data\ldap
3. wls home\user_projects\domains\<domain name>\security

Step2
Before starting the admin server on box C I change the admin listen port in config.xml to the hostname or IP of box C.
Step3
For node manager.
On box B, I need to point node manager to admin server to the box C.
1. Edit startup. Properties in the <domain name>/server/<servername>. In each server folder.
2. Need to uninstall and install again node manager server to listen the request from different host as by default it listen from localhost.

I tried these steps but not working. Can any help me out . Am I missing any steps or going in wrong direction for my goal. Is there any alternative way to do this ???

Steps 1 and 2 are fine, I think step 3 is not part of the configuration/procedure to reach the goal, however, this is necesary and should have been applied previously. One more thing, I'm not sure the changes you are doing in step 3> 1. "Edit startup. Properties in the <domain name>/ server/<servername>. In each server folder.", Could you specify the changes you are applying?
Why do you say It doesn't works?, what are the errors you get?

You are not able to see two server instances instead of one server??
In that case, Right click on Essbase analytic server ..and click add server ..give appropriate values...like server name which you need to be appear in EAS console..etc..and Make sure that other server should be up before doing this...

How remote managed server to connect to admin server
I have an admin server on one machine and created a managed server on different

I have been trying to run the WebLogic JPA example from,

but not having much luck on three different Linux machines,
The first issue I found was if you did not set the memory options just right, the JVM would just hang,
I am now using,

I found that the start-up would sometimes fail on some of the machines unless I used,
<sysproperty key="java.security.egd" value="file:///dev/./urandom"/>
But on once machine this does not help either,
I also tried using unicast, but still does not start,
the admin server starts, then the managed servers start and seem to try to connect to the admin server and just never do, never get past STARTING (to STARTED in the log).
Another have any other ideas?How are you starting the managed servers. try running the command
from /MW_HOME/user_projects/domains/bifoundation_domain/bin
nohup sh ./startManagedWebLogic.sh bi_server1 http://localhost:7001> start_bi_server1.log &
and see how it goes. make sure you have set the boot.properties files under security folder so that it wont get failed looking for username and password.

Problem starting managed server in cluster (The name of the managed server is same as admin server)

CLLUSTER1 and CLUSTER2 are the servers to be in the cluster. CLUSTER3 is the cluster
administrator. We start CLUSTER3 as a self-managed server and then try and start

Don't start the admin server as managed. Removing
-Dweblogic.management.server...
from the command line should help.

I can not startup Managed server via admin server
Admin server ip:172.16.219.25
Admin server name:nstwssadm1.webex.com
Managed server ip:172.16.219.189
Managed server name:nstwss001.webex.com.
I can start Managed server in comand line like 'startManagedWebLogic.sh nstwss001-s1 t3s://nstwssadm1.webex.com:9002'
But, I can not startup Managed server in console, it appears following log:

I have two servers S1 and S2
I installed on S1 Foundation, OHS, CALC on S2 I install EAS, APS, FR, however during the EAS or APS configuration. These fail to deploy in Weblogic.

In fact, I'm on a distributed architecture
Server 1: OHS as Web Server, Foundation (Shared Services, Workspaces )
Server 2: Essbase Administration Services "EAS" Essbase Provider Services, Financial Reporting CALC Manager --> (Database and deploy to application server)
When I configure EAS, APS etc... on server 2 (Database and deploy to application server), Weblogic is started on the server1 (by startWebLogic), but I have a "Failed" in the "deploy to server application", does not pass. But the database is "OK".
However, I try to install on the server CALC MANAGER 1, it worked.
So I ask myself, is that web applications can be on another server that Foundation?
