Managing Pagination in a Web Application

I´m new in using TopLink. I have been using BC4J with for my web projects but I have had a lot of problems and my applications are very fagile. I have been studing toplink and it seems very good, specially for the simple that it looks.
Though I have a question about the way to manage the pagination, because I don't have found any documentation about that issue. In the way I design my application interfases (GUI - JSP pages) almost every option of the application begins with a browse (grid, table) of records where you can search, paginate and select the record you want to work with. Some of this pages are supposed to get hundreds or even thousands of records. I appreciate if you or anyone else have any suggestion to resolve the problem.
I have read about storing the PKs in the session and build where clauses with the IN operator and some other similar ideas but I hope there are any other method to do it in a more efficient way.
Thanks a lot.
P.D.: Sorry but my English is not so good. I hope you can understand my problem (in spite of my bad English). Thanks again.

My preoccupation is about the amount of memory that could be waste in the server the PK's storage on the HTTPSession, if that was the approach.
In the other hand, if I store in the HTTPSession a ScrollableCursor I suppose that a Conection to the database is hold while the ScrollableCursor is in the Session.
I hope my application will have an estimate of 200 users concurrently and I don´t want the server crash.
Possibly I am exaggerating but really this project is very important and I have had a really bad experience with BC4J (with the same customer) and I dont want repeat the history with toplink.
Maybe it would be very useful for me if you could give me an idea of the most common (or efficient) approaches to resolve the issue and in general what are the situations where I can apply each one. Obviously I have some browses (pages) of tens of records and others of hundreds or even thousands of records, and I know that I could apply a diferent approach to each situation.
Also, because almost all the approaches are based on storing some objects on the HTTPSession, do you know any way to minimize the lost objects that can stay in the HTTPSession (ie. one for each page or browse) and the way to clean the HTTPSession? (specially if I store a ScrollableCursor and a Database Conection is reserved)
Thanks a lot.

  • Implementing  Resultset   with  Pagination in a Web Application

    Hi
    How is best way for to implent Pagination without lost performance using Cursor ?
    In Client side Have Buttons
    A-D
    E-J
    K-P
    Q-Z
    When Letters are Initial names , there is too a button where return all records
    Is there some good way or there is relevance ?
    Thank you in advance

    You can certainly reduce the latency of web requests by making things asynchronous. e.g. if you have a slow piece of functionality such as registration & sending of emails back, you could make that completely asynchronous and just send a message to a JMS Queue then consume it in another process/thread. Then the user of your web application doesn't have to wait for the slow processing to complete before their browser refreshes.
    To make it easy to integrate JMS into your application, you might want to stick to a POJO model and then use Spring Remoting over JMS via Lingo

  • Best way to manage images on jsp web application

    Hi,
    Am developing a jsp web application, in that project, the user will upload the image files, now I created an image directory in the context root and when the image is uploaded by the user it is saved in the /images directory and the image path is saved in the database. I can display this image using the <img src="images/a.jsp" > tag.
    but when I rebuild the project all the images in the /images directory get deleated but the image path is remained in the database, is there any method that I make /image dir outside my project context root so that when I rebuild the project the /images dir can get changed and my project will save images outside the context root that is in the /images dir which is now outside the project context root. and is it possible to display those images using <img src""> tag. because this time my /images dir is at D:/images . what could be the best method or way to handle images with the web application.
    any suggestion will be helpfull

    Well my friend as per your given case there are to two ways of approaching your problem.
    Case 1:
    How to save the relevant data ??
    .Create a backup folder Workstation on which you are hosting your application where you can store all the uploaded files which is outside the scope of webserver(However we can write a dedicated servlet which can access that file) and make sure we pickup from any the folder path from a specfic MessageResource bundle or an context/servlet init parameter in web.xml.
    .Write a Upload servlet/Backing Bean which saves all the files in the discussed folder using utility packages like Commons FileUpload,Oreilly MultipartRequest & etc and then register saved fileName in the database user specfic table specific to user.
    How to display the Image ??
    .Write a dedicated servlet which can pickup user related fileName specfic information from the database and the read the file from backup folder by constructing the path from the entry made as a init param in web.xml or any other custom MessageResource bundle and then stream the Image data using the ServletOutputStream.
    NOTE: do not forget to pickup & setImage file ContentType & Set the content length.
    .Just try to render the JSP view file where we are displaying the displaying the images by calling the dedicated ImageServlet.
    <img src="ImageServlet?userid=2345" align="center"/>Try to refer below posts to get a better understading.
    Dedicated Image Servlet:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5208858&messageID=9840042#9840042
    Uploading Files Using Servlet:
    http://muimi.com/j/jakarta/commons/fileupload/
    Case 2
    The second method would more or less the same but here we would save the uploaded file
    content is saved in the Database as a Blob and we would retrive it back using a dedicated image servlet again.
    However,in terms of performance the second case implementation is very costly.
    Try to refer below posts to get a better understading on the second case.

  • How to configure request manager service for multiple website in one web application

    I have set up sp 2013 as below:
     web application : wa1
    site collection : sc1
    sp site: site1, site2
    I used 2 WFE, 1 APP, how can I use request manager service to control  site1 to wfe1, site2 to wfe2?
    Awen

    That's not what i'd describe as load balancing.
    A better description would be load-isolation. In your description then if the load on site1 was large (and growing) but site2 was quiet then site1 would struggle and eventually become unable to handle the number of users but site2 would still be ok. That's
    fine from a QOS point of view but it's not the norm for load balancing. It would work in simple scenarios but the out of the box load balancing tools are much better suited than that sort of approach.
    This article shows how to configure the RMS and may help show how your request is difficult to configure:

    Hi,
    Did you actually try to look at the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide for instructions as suggested ?
    To redeploy a component, run the configurator that can be found in the start menu under Foundation Services. Then select "modify an existing instance". Then for Calculation manager, check the box "Deploy to application server".
    Thanks,

  • Dynamic deployed web application doesnt' work in managed server

    Hi:
    Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong:
    1. I create a new web application DYNAMICALLY (i.e. copy directory to

    2. I assigned one of the managed server as target for the new

    3. Restart managed server
    4. Try to access the new application in managed server, and get error

    If the server does not wish to make this information available to the

    Any ideas?

    See my answer to your last post. The short answer is that the HttpClusterServlet is
              likely to be the problem and not the cluster. You can try one of the web server plugins
              or a hardware load balancer as a temporary workaround. You should file a case with
              support too...

  • How to set a root directory for file management in web application

    Is it possible to set a default root directory for file management for a web application ?
    We would upload some files and store them in the web server.
    When we write the uploaded files without any path, the files are written in the config directory into the jdeveloper embedded oc4j directory.
    When we write the uploaded with a relative path ("/somedir/filename"), the files are written in C:/somedir/filename.
    We would like that all file management with relative path into the web application refer automatically to a given root directory (for example defined in web.xml).
    Is it possible ?

    I'm using the standard upload in adf faces.
    The problem is not during upload. This is managed in a temporay directory defined in web.xml. The problem is for writing the file that was uploaded (upload give us an inputStream we have to write somewhere, eventually after unzipping).
    Here is an example of our current code.
    if (mimeType.equals("application/x-zip-compressed") |
    mimeType.equals("application/zip")) {
    File destZipFile =
    new File(rootDirectory + "/" + parametersDirectory +
    "/" + uploadedFile.getFilename());
    BufferedInputStream isZipFile =
    new BufferedInputStream(uploadedFile.getInputStream());
    FileOutputStream fosZipFile =
    new FileOutputStream(destZipFile);
    BufferedOutputStream bosZipFile =
    new BufferedOutputStream(fosZipFile, BUFFER);
    // read and write until last byte is encountered
    while ((currentByte = isZipFile.read(data, 0, BUFFER)) !=
    -1) {
    bosZipFile.write(data, 0, currentByte);
    }

    Unexpected Error - An unexpected error occurred: Keyset does not exist (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80090016)
    Any ideas? Are there any Extended logs created by Wizard activity? Windows Application Eventlog Shows nothing!

    Hi,
    Just a gut feel. The issue may lie within IIS. I base this upon the fact that your database was created. The second part, the web configuration  is related to IIS. SQL Server 2012 should be set up with IIS7 or better still IIS8.
    This said..
    Is IIS installed correctly? You can always de-install it and re-install it via the programs / windows features option off of the control panel.
    Out of curiosity, did you by any chance have a previous 'bad install' of MDS. If so this may be a registry issue. When one starts talking 'Keyset', the registry comes to mind. A orphan keyset which is being called.
    Also remember that in setting up the web application, that the installation will ask you for a User ID and password. If you are like us, our passwords change each 6 weeks and this create problems with bringing up the Master Data Manager AFTER a password
    change. In fact I have often resorted to creating a 'new web site' with each password change BEFORE I decided to opt for using a Process ID, with an non expiring password to do your web configuration.
    I do not know if I have answered your question, just a gut feel. Please do let us know if the steps that I mentioned resolve your issue.

  • Managed path for host named site collection is farm level or web application level?

    Hi,
    I would like to get advice.
    I created a webapplication for host named site collections.
    these are my host named site collections (except http://sp2013) under my webapplication
    Root Site Collection: http://sp2013
    Site Collection: portal1.sg
    Site Collection: portal1.sg/research
    Site Collection: portal1.sg/intranet
    research and intranet managed paths are farm level
    all my host named site collection will be accessed by http and https except "intranet" site collection will be only accessed by https
    so I changed the Intranet zone for site collection using Set-SPSiteUrl
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg") -Url "https://portal1.sg" -Zone Intranet
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg/research") -Url "https://portal1.sg" -Zone Intranet
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg/intranet") -Url "https://portal1.sg/intranet" -Zone Intranet
    Now I need to create "search" site collection for "Enterprice Search Center"
    My question is that for the "search" managed path ... should i use farm level or web application level?
    "search" site collection will be will be accessed with both http and https also.
    Thanks a lot!

    managed path for HNSC is farm level and u can have 20 managed path
    while managed path for path based is 20 per web application in your case if you are going to have a a separate web application for search then u will use web app

  • Deployment of Web Application when the managed Server is down .....

    Part of our installation, we want to deploy our web application on to a managed server.
    So, we use the JMX API calls to deploy the web application. But, at the time of this deployment the managed server is not brought up. So, our expectation was that when the managed server is brought up later, it will automatically STAGE the web application from Admin Server and then, deploy it in the managed server.

    SOA is not required. WebGate is a separate installation, separate from where you install the Oracle Access Manager.
    Oracle Access Manager is like the management station, WebGate would typically be installed on a host where a Web Server is running. So WebGate running on the WebServer host would be used to provide access control functions for web pages hosted on Web Server. You will have to do the configuration of WebGate separately after Access Manager has been installed. Please mark answer helpful/correct if helpful.

  • Workflow Manager & User Profile Service Application for Extranet Web application

    Hi,
    Recently i have setup HA WF Manager farm and associated it with Intranet web application (on-prem). Now i want to use the same farm for our extranet environment (on-prem) but extranet environment is not associated with UPA. Since user profile application
    is not available for extranet environment so workflow does not work.
    Now if I try to use existing UPA or create a new UPA for extranet environment, then i am exposing users data to all partner and collaborators. But for workflows to work it is necessary that users profile should be there in profile database.
    Is there any way that I can run workflows in extranet environment without exposing user profile data to partners/collaborators? Thanks.
    -Prashant

    Thanks for the reply Paul, but this does not solve the problem.
    Actually in MySite web application external users group is not at all added with any permissions but just to check your suggestion i have given permission to externals group with Deny Read permission. Now UPA is associated to the extranet web application
    and when i access user profile data using RESP API using a partner account I can still see the data. For e.g. I am using this URL
    https://extranet.abc.com/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetPropertiesFor(accountName=@v)?@v='abc\uname'
    When I hit this URL in browser using partner account, it shows the profile data of the account passed in the URL.
    MySite web application is https://mysite.abc.com and on this web application external users group is added under policy with Deny Read permissions. Thanks.

  • Serious problems deploying web application with enterprise manager

    Hi all,
    First I have to say that this thing that has happened to me today is freaking bizarre... I was trying to make a new deployment of a web application on OAS 10.1.2, using the Enterprise Manager. The application is using Spring and DWR, therefore it has some XML files included. The application worked perfect in JDeveloper 9.0.4, our development tool, and I've previously developed very similar applications in the past, and deployed them on the same server without any problem.
    Today, when I was trying to deploy my .ear file, I got this error message:
    The file specified, "FindAnExpert.ear" is not a valid ear file.
    I tried with the .war file, and this happened:
    Base Exception:
    java.util.zip.ZipException
    invalid END header (bad central directory offset). invalid END header (bad central directory offset)
    I checked that all the included .jar files were fine, I even replaced them with new ones. I started to remove files from the .war file and discovered that without the XML files I was able to deploy the application. Then I copied over those XML files through FTP and the application is working correctly, but I was not able to use the Enterprise Manager to deploy it!!! The XML files are well formed, on of them contains the details of a data source that I also reviewed to be sure that it was correctly configured... This is nuts... any ideas over there???
    Thanks in advance,
    Luis

    Luis,
    If all of the files uploaded piecemeal worked fine, then I believe your problem to be with your deployment descriptor(s). Also, note that the .war file lives in a different directory:
    C:\oc4j\j2ee\home\applications\Application-Name
    Perhaps if you have time you could post all of the associated deployment descriptor files. Log files from the C:\oc4j\j2ee\home\log\oc4j directory would also help to troubleshoot your deployment issues. You can turn up the logging level to "FINEST" for maximum output to your log file.
