Managing songs on IPod touch

Hello - I have an 8GB Ipod touch and it is full. I need to delete songs from it. I have checked the songs in my ITunes library that I want to sync, but until I can delete songs off the Ipod it will remain full. On a similar note, I'd like the sync to always include checked songs and delete unchecked songs. Is that possible? Thanks.

Yes. Check the box that say, sync only checked music.

how do you delete songs from ipod touch if can help me that would be great.

planb77 is wrong. There is a way to delete songs, artists, albums, and playlists directly from your ipod touch. Simply click the song, artist, album, or playlist you want to delete but dont let go and slide your finger to your left (or right) and a red button will pop up to the right of the song, album, artist, or playlist title saying "Delete". Simply click it to delete it. To cancel and hide this button or option, simply slide right or left again or tap your finger anywhere on the screen away from the "delete" button.
BTW I am not absolutely sure if this will work on all previous versions of the Ipod Touch. I am running iOS 5. iOS 5.0.1 to be excact.

  • Can't delete song from ipod touch that is not in my library

Can't delete song from ipod touch that is not in my library

Monty's solution will work if you have left the songs in one of your playlists. Another idea if that doesn't work is to check your iTunes list for that iPod. Check at the very bottom beneath the albums, artist,s and other content to add to your iPod, and be sure that you don't have individual songs selected to be added as well. If you do, eliminate them from that bottom list, and you should be fine.

  • Delete songs on iPod touch

How can I delete songs from iPod touch without plugging it in my comp and without deleting songs from my comp's iTunes list

The only way to remove songs is via the iTunes sync process, and you don't have to delete songs from your iTunes library to delete the songs from your iPod.
If you are syncing and don't want your entire iTunes music library transferred, make use of iTunes playlists. Choose selected playlists, artists, and genres under the Music tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes making your selections below followed by a sync. To remove a song from your iPod, delete it from the selected playlist in iTunes. Deleting a song from a playlist does not delete the song from your iTunes library. To add another song to your iPod, place the song in one of the existing iTunes playlists you have selected to be transferred to your iPod followed by a sync. And/or under the Summary tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes, select sync only checked songs and video. Uncheck the song in your iTunes library that you want removed from your iPod followed by a sync.

  • Cannot delete songs from iPod Touch

    Hi all,
I manage my device content manually on iTunes, and I am trying to delete enough songs from my ipod touch to download the new iOS. I clicked "on this device" in iTunes and deleted the songs I didn't want, but they are still on my device. I've restarted the device and restarted iTunes. When I had unplugged the device and plugged it back in, under "on this device" it does not show the song I tried to delete, but they are still on my device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    That happens sometimes.
You can either update via iTunes
    or try:
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music

  • Could not copy song to Ipod Touch due to unknown error (-50)

I just received a new third generation Ipod Touch as a gift and installed the latest iTunes directly from Apple's website onto my computer (Windows 7 32-bit). I added my music folder to the library and imported an m3u playlist to iTunes. Then I connected my iTouch, followed the instructions to set it up, and then I wanted to sync my songs to my iTouch. I only wanted to sync the songs on my "Favorites" playlist that I imported, so under the Music sync settings, I selected the option to only sync selected songs, playlists, etc. and selected the Favorites playlist.
Then I attempted to sync the songs, but only a few songs would sync before an error popped up saying that it could not copy a specific song to the device due to an unknown error (-50). This error sometimes repeats for multiple songs and then the syncing stops. Each time I try to sync it again, it might sync a few more songs, but will always be interrupted by the error, after which it stops syncing. These songs are MP3 files. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.
This is extremely frustrating and I don't know what to do. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I've managed to fix the problem and discovered the reason for it. When I dragged the playlist to the iTouch section in my iTunes (instead of pressing the "Sync" button) to sync the playlist to my device, it synced everything except for the handful of songs that were giving me errors. Then the error messages it displayed were more helpful in indicating what the problem was. They could not locate the song in the playlist on my computer because I had changed the MP3 tags a long time ago, sometime after I added them to the playlist, and it never updated. (Note: the playlist I was syncing was originally made in Zune player and then I saved it as m3u format) Hope this helps someone with a similar problem in the future.

  • Cannot play songs on iPod Touch within iTunes 8.

I have been doing this for years. I manually manage the music on my iPods. When I come to work, I plug my iPod into my Mac, open iTunes and play music off the iPod. It's always worked fine. Now, I upgraded to iTunes 8. Every time I try to play music off my 32GB iPod Touch, it plays for a few seconds then pauses... then it will play for a few more seconds... then pauses again. Everytime it does this, the iPod says "Synch in Progress". It should not be synching to ANYTHING. When I play the iPod through headphones, it does not do this. It only does it in iTunes. Very annoying! This is clearly a bug in iTunes

That is because you have the iPod set to Automatically Update songs. If you set the iPod to Manually Update, the songs will not be grayed out, and you will be able to move them around, etc.
I hope this helps! Post back if you need more info!

  • How to put one song on ipod touch from mac without syncing all files

I have been trying since I got my ipod touch in 2012 to put just one or two songs onto my ipod without syncing all the music on my mac coumputer. Every time I plug my ipod into my computer, and try to put one song to my ipod, it syncs every music file that is on my computer to my ipod. Please help. Thanks!!!

Well, you could turn on the sidebar... but rather, just connect your iPod and click on it. You'll be taken to the iPod screen, with "Summary", "Apps", "Music", etc. along the top. On the Summary page somewhere, you should find a checkbox that says "Manually Manage Music and Video".
(Pretty much) all the features from iTunes 10 are still present in iTunes 11. All iTunes 11 got was a new interface.

When I sync my ipod touch in itunes it adds songs that are already on the ipod. I need to be able to delete these duplicate songs on the ipod but cant seem to be able to detele songs from the ipod in Itunes. Help please.

  • Can't delete songs from iPod Touch

My ipod touch is displaying songs that don't display in my playlist when I sync it with the computer, about 20 random songs that I don't even recall downloading....and it won't let me delete the individual songs from the ipod by sliding and clicking delete.  Any tips?

If they do not play on the iPod then
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How to delete songs from iPod touch 5th generation

How do I delete songs from an iPod Touch 5th genration. We tried many other forums with the swiping method, but when we tried it, a picture of a cloud with a red arrow appeared after tapping the delete button appeared and the song remained.

  • Can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud, can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud

once you upload songs, photos or documents fron ipod touch to icloud, can you delete them from ipod touch to free up memory from ipod touch and can you access them from icloud without downloading to ipod?

You can't upload music to iCloud unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber, and if you are the songs are uploaded or matched from the iTunes library on your computer, not your device.  Photos are only uploaded to Photo Stream temporarily (30 days), for up to 1000 photos so it's not meant to be a permanent storage option.  The uploaded photos are also generally of lower quality than the originals on your device.  Also, only photos taken on your device after turning on Photo Stream are uploaded.  Finally, when you turn Photo Stream on, uploaded photos will be streamed back to your device in a Photo Stream album (so it actually uses some of your memory rather than saving it).  As for documents, only iWork documents are uploaded.
If you really want to free up storage on your device consider more permanent cloud storage services such as DropBox (which will handle photos and all documents).

  • Cannot delete song from iPod Touch 4

Just got iPod Touch 4 and it tried synching entiere song catalog from computer.  Cancelled synch, but one song is "stuck" on the Touch - it won't play, and won't give the option to delete it - text is in grey and the song is unselectable.  How do I delete this one item?

Nothing.  I guess I'll just have to choose to ignore that one song.  I've just built a playlist that contains only the songs that I can access and use that instead of the base list.
I can't believe that we're the only two people who have this problem and that nobody else has an idea how to fix it.

  • Can't add songs to ipod touch...Please help?

Okay. I downloaded some new songs to my computer.  I added them to my ipod without any problems. Then I went to add them to my sister's ipod.  The first 5 songs went on just fine, but when I tried to add the next few songs, I said something along the lines of "Unable to sync, unknow error" and then a 4 or 5 digit number. It only said it once and the message doesn't pop up again when I try again so I have no idea what the numbers were.
Now whenever I drag songs to the ipod, the ipod is highlighted and the box with the plus sign shows, as if it is going to work. But when I release the song, nothing happens.  It doesn't sync the song, there's no error message, nothing.
I'm really reluctant to do a restore or anything similar because our music is spread out over about three different computers, and several months ago I had a virus on my computer so some of my music isn't on ANY computer.
I've already tried restarting both the ipod and the computer, and I tried plugging the ipod in

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Also reboot the computer.
    - Then try again and remember the complete error message
Could this have been the error number:
    iTunes: Error 13019 during sync
