Manipulating output using RandomAcessFile

Question

Hi, Im trying to read from a flat text file using RandomAccessFile. I would like to check the value returned from the file and compare it to a give condition and then perform a required action such as close file.
If I declare a String to hold the returned value, How would I check the value in the string and compare it to my condition?
Please have a look at the code and advise on how to handle the control structure nested within the while loop.

RandomAccessFile file = new RandomAccessFile("filename", "r");
String line;
boolean cont = true;
while (cont && (line = file.readLine()) != null)
  if (line.startsWith(commentString))
    continue;
  else if (line.contains(endString))
    cont = false;
  else if(line.startsWith(printString)){
     //use string.substring() to get the portion of the string after
     //the printString bit.
     int start = line.indexOf(printString);
     System.out.println(line.subString(start+printString.length(), line.length()-1));
file.close();(NOTE: I may well have buggered the indexing of the subString as I can't recall the exact details of what indexOf returns and what subString requires)
