Manufacturers Coupon + PM causing issues -- Policy change or Incorrect Store Procedure

Let's try again.
Has BBY changed its official policy about PM and use of Manufacturer/Vendor Coupons?
Many (many, many) times over the years the mods here have stated that  MQ should essentially be considered a form of payment and should never be turned downed with Price Match, Combined with Sales or discounts, Upgrade and Save,  B2G1, combined with RZ certificates,  etc.      A nonexpired single MQ (per item) is never double dipping as long as the price of the item exceeds the amount of the coupon.
OTOH, far too many stores continue to insist that MQ can't be accepted for any number of reasons (some store swear BBY doesn't accept MQ at all since the scanner never reads the barcode).
Recently a new trend has emerged that several stores seem to be ringing MQ up as Store Coupons under the excuse of BBY Policy Changed which makes them  not combine properly with other promotions/kicks them out of the system entirely/and specifically negates a Price Match
Is this a new Policy or are the Stores/certain Store Managers intentionally or unintentionally not following proper protocol to disallow customer discounts.

Hello again prospect60,
Thank you for your reply. Have you personally had the experiences you use as examples? If so, I would very much like to know more details about them and the stores at which they occurred!
While I'm extremely uncomfortable with the idea that you or our other customers visit our stores planning to cope with confrontations, the best recourse in the uncommon scenarios that you describe is to call us at 888-237-8289 in the moment. That way, we can do our best to address whatever the situation is on the spot. That being said, it has never been my experience that our telephone agents perform as anything but advocates for our customers, doing their level best to find workable and satisfying solutions.
If you personally know of anyone who has had such experiences and not contacted us about them, please let them know that they are welcome to do so. We want to hear from them, help them, and learn from them. But do please remember: what you are describing as "common reports" represent the merest fraction of the customers who visit our stores. We strive to care for our customers with a high level of service and have great success at it!
Once again, I'm grateful for the conversation. I hope you have a stellar weekend!
Sincerely,
John|Social Media Specialist | Best Buy® Corporate

  • Re: Manufacturers Coupon + PM causing issues -- Policy change or Incorrect Store Procedure

Here we are again -- Ghostbusters $5 MQ  is available and multiple Bluray forums have reports of MQ not being accepted in store for eligible items.
Various excuses from clerks as well as Managers.
    1)  BBY do not  accept MQ on sale prices or the MQ discount can only be taken from the List price and not the sales price (or even a Price Match)
    2)  BBY can't accept MQ unless they scan -- which of course BBY system isn't set up to scan MQ and they have to be entered with the F7 key
    3)  BBy doesn't ever  accept Internet printed coupons
    4)  The coupon has to be in color and not Black and White.
You won't let me post direct links to those posts from other forums so you are going to have to take my word.    Again -- this is not my store, but I am trying to get the mods here to understand just how common this is and how many stores/managers just don't seem to understand the BBY Corporate policy on accepting MQ.
I really like BBY and  my stores usually accept coupons without problems, but this is just far too common of a problem to have it continue to affect customers when the solution is actually pretty easy.
Calling 1-800 BBY almost always gets someone who doesn't understand the issue any better than the manager and will almost always back up the managers incorrect explanation.

I have not personally had issues (or at least very rarely) at my regular stores where I'm pretty well known so I know how this is supposed to work at BBY.    I do have Senior Member Status on many/most of the major internet forums where collectors hang out -- i.e.  those people who still buy physical media and often have collections of hundreds if not thousands of movies.   I have tried to get members of those forums to directly post their issues here and let you guys handle the issues, but many find it too much trouble to sign up for yet another forum and many just buy elsewhere.
The few times I have enticed  people to directly post their experiences here have generally gotten reimbursed the cost or an extra RZ certificate to cover the difference, but the next time the store will still reject the MQ with the same excuse since the "education" rarely gets to the offending stores and managers.   The general consensus seems to be the Managers can set their own policy and BBY Corporate CSR's are left to pacify those customers who eventually complain.   Many regular customers have just given up and taken their business elsewhere b/c of never changing hassle at their local BBY.   By the point in time people get to this stage, the damage to BBY reputation is already cemented and it's very difficult to win back that trust.
A few cut and paste comments of the fallout of such failures to communicate.  These are a few that I picked (some slightly edited for language more than content, but there are quite a few more just in the Ghostbusters threads.   Pretty much anytime Disney or Coupons.com has a MQ it starts up again with a different group of actors with the same basic story.
"How did I know there'd be problems? "
"well...it's BB and it's impossible for them to get anything right most of the time?"
"The Best Buy I visited today wouldn't honor the coupon. Had a manager come over to basically tell me I wasn't the only person today who tried to use it, but since it wouldn't scan in their system, they couldn't accept it."
"Getting BB to accept the coupon was a maddening experience.
Of course the person at the register didn't know what to do with it. Next someone else came over and looked at the coupon and kept saying they wouldn't take it because it wouldn't scan. I told them for the years I've been shopping there they don't scan and they have to be entered manually. She went in the back and disappeared for about 10 minutes. She came back and said she wouldn't take it because the UPC numbers on the coupon didn't match the product.
I turned over the packaging and showed her how it matched the UPC. She was like "yeah, but our number is different". She was referring to BB's internal sku number! I asked to speak with someone who could do this properly and she said she was the manager. I was upset at this point and I said that was impossible.
Ultimately she applied the coupon as a $5 discount but she insisted that BB doesn't accept manufacturer coupons. To clarify, I said so if I go on the website and check BB's policies it will state they don't accept manufacturer coupons? She said yes again.
I know they pull this kind of crap nationwide all the time, but what the hell is going on when the supposed manager of the store doesn't even know how to apply a manufacturer coupon!? "
"Welcome to Every time I try to use a coupon or price match at ANY Best Buy. If I wasn't all about "deals" I would never shop there."
"They of course NEVER scan so it always involves the cashier going over it with a microscope, typically they say no, then this requires me asking for a manager who acts like I am taking money out of his pocket and gives me the old "one time exception" garbage.
It's late 2014 and BB's IT department still hasn't figured out how to program to accept a valid manufactures coupon."
"Went to BBY on my break and they actually had Ghostbusters! They had about 5 or 6. The cashier wouldn't take he coupon because it wouldn't scan. He told me I could go to customer service and they might do it. I didn't have time so I just bought it for $19. Oh well. I've already justified the price in my mind. Too bad BBY won't take a manufacture's coupon. This is why I don't shop there any more."  [I think this poster did eventually go back to a different store and finally get his proper discount, but more gas money, wasted time/energy.  and obvious dissastifaction.]
"Best Buy refused to accept coupon because it's "on sale".
Told them the MFG coupon is supposed to accepted as payment.
Called corporate and the rep told me they can't accept it because coupon says "no other discount or offer". They are so full of ..."   [My highlight since even calling 1-888 in store oftne if not  usually results in this sort of response that the mods here have constantly said was incorrect]
"Here is my tale of woe and wonder........  He rang everything up, then told me I couldn't use the Ghostbuster's coupon and my reward zone at the same time. I argued .......... "
I have lost count of the variations of   'The aggravation/refusal to properly allow me to use MQ is why I never shop at BBY anymore and I go to Target (or buy from Amazon)'
I like my BBY and want to see the store stay healthy, viable, and relevant for the next decade and not end up another Circuit City,  or AV Systems, or (insert bankrupt Ex Consumer Electronics store).  but too many people have already relegated BBY to that fate due to ever shrinking item selection and what can be deemed  far too widespread customer unfriendly policies.   I dread a world where Amazon and Walmart are my only choices.
I don't understand why there is not a FAQ available that clearly and explicitly states the acceptable various uses of MQ including a Q/A set of examples of acceptable combination (with Price Match,  with sales prices, combining BBY coupon vs MQ, MQ combined with RZ certs, etc)    Generally Target has the best written coupon policy of the major stores so it's pretty easy if a store isn't following policy to print it and show it to the individual stores.

  • Error message when issuing a COMMIT in a store procedure

    Hello experts,
    Please help.
I have a problem where i cannot specify a COMMIT in a store
procedure. I have the following error message:
    =================================================================
    00034, 00000, "cannot %s in current PL/SQL session"
// *Cause:  An attempt was made to issue a commit or rollback
    from a PL/SQL
// object (procedure, function, package) in a session
    which has this
// disabled (by 'alter session disable commit in
    procedure')
// *Action: enable commits from PL/SQL in this session, or don't
    attempt
// to use commit or rollback in PL/SQL when they are
    disabled
    // in the current session.
    =================================================================
Thanks very much for a reply
    Kind regards
    Yogeeraj

The solution is to issue the statement
    alter session enable commit in procedure;
However, I'd think carefully about doing this. Procedures are
often called as part of a wider transaction. If the procedure
issues a commit ALL the preceding work is also commited. If
there is something subsequent in the transaction that fails and
issues a rollback, it will onlt rollback the work done after the
procedure. This may lead to your database being in an
    inconsistent state.

  • Explorer InfoSpaces on HANA Views - column label changes cause issues?

Key question is – do simply label changes in HANA view cause issues with Explorer InfoSpaces?  Furthermore, on source view changes, does the InfoSpace also need to be adjusted?
What we have observed is this
    1. InfoSpaces have been created using the “SAP HANA appliance” connection highlighted below. The corresponding “Home” screen is shown below that, so there are around 14 or so InfoSpaces that should be available.
    2. Yesterday, there was a production deployment that contained some changes to the underlying views in the form of label changes (not column name changes).
    3. Now, in the “Manage” screen we cannot see these same 14 InfoSpaces available under the expected connection. Instead, they are all available under the “Source Unavailable” node with the default action of “Change Source” shown.
Additionally, we are seeing some strange behavior where certain facets are actually containing the wrong data. For example, in a facet/column called “Source Type”, where the expected values are “NBP or PBP”, we are seeing Material numbers like “00001112453”. This leads me to believe that there is a mapping issue under the covers.
    Thanks,
    Justin

Our BOE Explorer is Version: 14.1.1 Build: 1072   - I’m not sure how this corresponds with your 69.01 to 74 numbers (release note numbers?).
But it sounds identical to your description.
One of our observations: if we change the sorting on a facet pane using the upper right sort control the values are corrected for a while, at least until we change a measure and the set of facets get updated with the miss-mapped values again.    This only occurs on some models and we haven’t been able to determine what the underlying criteria might be that aggravates the problem.
Thanks for your input – it helps us determine a viable path forward.
    Cheers,
    Tony

  • Domain Group Policy changes causes clients to be unable to connect to WSUS for Windows Updates

Domain Controller is Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit, Group Policy Management version 6.0.0.1. WSUS server is Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 32-bit, Update Services version 3.2.7600.226. Client machines are Windows 7, some are 64-bit and some are 32-bit.
Every time we make any changes to any of our Group Policies most of our clients stop getting their Windows Updates from the WSUS server within 2-3 days. This occurs when we add a new policy for a group of users, temporarily disable a policy or edit a policy.
Check of the WindowsUpdate.log on affected client machines shows:

A further check of the log files shows:
    2014-06-21 19:36:06:995  156 1b0c Misc WARNING: SendRequest failed with hr = 80072ee2. Proxy List used: <proxy server name:8080> Bypass List used : <(null)> Auth Schemes used : <>
We do not use a proxy except for Internet connections. We configure IE with a pac file. This is set through Group Policy since we restrict user accounts from being able to set it.
The clients that are connecting to the WSUS server have these entries instead:
    2014-06-24 09:12:16:779  992 270 Agent Setting download properties on call A20329BC-3467-4B7E-B9F4-6AC6ACBA23E1: priority=3, interactive=1, owner is system=0, proxy settings=1, proxy session id=2
I have a routine that will fix the problem but it is time-consuming and pulls me away from other things I should be doing:
Run registry files on client machine (WindowsUpdate and AU) This is not always necessary and is already set by Group Policy and the affected clients already have the registry settings. No idea why it is necessary to do but it the steps below don't always
    work unless it is.
    netstop bits and netstop wuauserv
    ipconfig /flushdns
Delete qmgr*.* files from Downloader folder
    Delete Software Distribution folder
    Run from command prompt:
    sc.exe sdset bits D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
    sc.exe sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
    netstart bits and netstart wuauserv
    wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
Run Windows Updates again from Control Panel
This routine always fixes the problem but I've found that I must do each step to guarantee success.
How or where is the proxy setting being changed for WSUS that we see in the WindowsUpdate logs and how do I prevent this from happening? It is also curious that it happens to most but not all of the client machines. When it does happen it's not always the
    same client machines.

You're right - the WSUS server is on the inside and does not need a proxy server. Tried running the netsh winhttp reset proxy command but was still not able to connect to the WSUS server. After running the netsh winhttp reset proxy command received response:
Current WinHTTP proxy setting: Direct access <no proxy server>.
Ran the command at 13:49 and then tried Windows Updates again. Here's snippet from the log file:

  • Issues after changing the AP Name on Wireless LAN Controller

I recently changed the AP Name of all the Wireless Access Points in my branch office (which are all associated to the branch office Wireless LAN Controller(s)). After that I noticed that all branch office employees are unable to connect to the employee SSID. The employee SSID uses web authentication and employees are authenticated using Head Office AD via Cisco ACS, both located at the Head Office.
There are other SSID's on the WLC which all work fine, but only employee SSID which uses AD authentication does not work. AD authenticaion is working fine because employee's in HO are successfully able to connect to the employee SSID at HO.
The branch office is connected to the HO via a tunnel link. We noticed that if we restart both the ASA at either ends of the tunnel. The employee SSID starts working again but only temporarily for a day or so... what could be the issue? Can renaming the AP's cause issues? How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks Elliott,

  • ORA-14402: updating partition key column would cause a partition change

    Hi,
When I am trying to execute an update statement where i am tring to update date values emp_det from 11-oct-2010 to 12-nov-2010.
    Oracle throws an error :
    ORA-14402
updating partition key column would cause a partition change
I think that this is because emp_det is a partitioning key of a partitioned table.
    Oracle documentation says that
"UPDATE will fail if you change a value in the column that would move the
row to a different partition or subpartition, unless you enable row
    movement" .
    alter table t enable row movement;
I did not understand what is meant by "enable row movement".
I cannot drop the partitions and recreate it after updating the table and also i don't have proper priviliges for enale row movement syntax
because of the lack of privileges. How to solve this is issues with out row movement and recreate partition.
Can this be done by a developer or is there any other way to execute update in this case? its urgent.. pls help..
    thanks in advance..

I did not understand what is meant by "enable row movement". Each partition in partitioned table is physically separate segment. Assume you have a row that belongs to partition A stored in segment A and you change row's partitioning column to value that belongs to partition B - you have an issue since updated row can't be now stored in segment A anymore. By default such update is not allowed and you get an error. You can enable row movement and Oracle will move row to target partition:

  • Exchange upgrade causing issues with internal wiri...

Recently our exchange was upgraded to accommodate bt infinity and at the same time our broadband started playing up. we called bt and I spent 1.5 hours checking and re checking equipment with the call center. Tests were done with the hub at either end of the internal wiring. All the tests were still showing faults even with hub connected to the test socket. They asked me to leave connected for 24 hours while they monitor the line. They promised to call me back which they did not. I called them again the following day to be told I should have left the hub in the test socket which I was not told the previous day. I then had to wait 48 hours while they monitored the line this time in the test socket. All the tests still showed the fault was still there so an engineer called out.
The hub was still in the test socket when engineer arrived and the first thing he did was hook up his test equipment to the test socket and he stated there and then that there was nothing wrong with the line but it had been throttled down. 2 minute phone call and 10 minutes later broadband was back and working perfectly at the test socket. He checked the internal extention and the faults were being thrown up by an extension that has been in place for 10 years +. He stated to me that the new equipment installed in the exchange was more advanced and did more line checks so, although this equipment has been used for Internet with BT for 10 years it is no longer adequate.
All of this I find understandable but the whole way that BT handled this from day 1 of my first call has been appalling. BT openly admitted that the original engineer calls were handled badly and we were credited £9 for the lack of services we had for overly long time. However we are now, 2 months after this, faced with nearly £130 charge for the engineer visit which, looking back with the info I have now, was completely unnecessary. Had the engineers on the phone bothered to reset the line while hub was in the test socket when they were allegedly monitoring it for 48 hours they could have told me there were no faults on their equipment up to the socket and I would have sorted out the internal wiring myself. Even now I can find mention on the Internet of old wiring causing issues but no specific posts to do with exchange upgrades potentially meaning that you need to upgrade internal wiring or mention by the BT call center itself on any of the calls I made to them. All I was told was that everything up to the main box is BT and everything after that mine but since we have made no changes to the wiring we did not think it was applicable until the engineer arrived and told us what he told us then. Yesterday I called Bt again around 9am to dispute the charge. I was informed that because the fault was with our equipment the charge stands. I explained all of the above and I had my case put to the review team. I was told I would get a call back within 4 hours which I did but the phone rang 3 times and as I answered they hung up. I then got a text saying they had tried to call and asked for me to call back which I did to be told that his computer wasn't working. He took my details and said someone would call me back which no one did. I chased again to be told that someone would definitely call me that day. No one did. I chased again today to be told the decision still stands. He has put to final review and promised a call back within 5 days. Until this is resolved direct debit is cancelled. To the letter of the contract we have with BT this is our charge to pay I know that but this could have been avoided if the information was out there on the net, if the original checks done over the phone were done correctly or if I had been told this directly by Bt themselves prior to the engineer being called out which is why I am posting this here so hopefully no one else falls into this trap.

You're right I'm not connected to the BT infinity cabinet. But the BT Infinity cabinets all still route back through the exchange that I am connected to -
    http://www.ichilton.co.uk/blog/phones/faster-broadband-bt-infinity-fibre-to-the-cabinet-coming-to-in...
    Quote :
What this modem does is connects using VDSL from your home to the VDSL cabinet using the existing copper wires, on to the DSLAM, back to the exchange (over the fibre) and on to BT’s core network.
Your phone line is then still terminated in the original cabinet for telephony (using the cross connect between the old and new cabinets I mentioned above) and back to the exchange over the original multi pair copper cable as it always has done.
    http://www.robertos.me.uk/html/fttx.html
    Quote:
FTTC involves BT Openreach installing a new street cabinet near to the existing one and linking the two. They run optical fibre from the exchange to the new cabinet then link individual lines from the old cabinet to the new one and back to get VDSL2 onto the copper connection to the premises. The PSTN phone connection continues to operate over the pre-existing cable from the old cabinet to the exchange.  It does not get put onto the fibre connection.
In other words the linkage is Exchange >> Old >> DSLAM in New >> Old >> Premises. (Traffic in both directions of course!)
Presumably the equipment in the exchange cannot stay as it is and is upgraded in the process?

  • No browzer, uplading through google earth, download interupted 'due to policy change' everytime.

I uninstalled firefox with the intention of installing a clean copy before I realized I had no other browsers. I have been trying to gain access through google earth, then opening it in google maps, through which I could get to the main browser to get to a download page. Everytime I start the download, it is interupted, going back to google earth with a notice saying that the download was interupted due to a policy change. Any suggestions for how to get your browser back would be very much appreciated. I can check the e-mail I provided from another computer.

Can you, or did you try using Driver Cleaner to remove the driver remnants, and download the latest drivers from ATI. At least start with the drivers only and the WDM drivers, leaving the Catalyst control center for last?
I would suggest removing the drivers in safe mode, and delete the ATI VGA drivers folder and or at least go through the hokey pokey with just the chipset drivers +LAN to get all Windows updates (SP2 on the CD??) & .Net to support ATI drivers & Catalyst Control Center. Then once you get all that, do sound and leave VGA drivers for last. Create a restore point, and then tackle just the independent ATI video drivers at the very last. You may also want to look for the chipset drivers too.
I really have no experience with this board, but that would be "My" logical approach from what I've gathered here. Could even be the older monitors contributing :shrugs: So you may have multiple issues here..
    EDIT:
    I just realized something
    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27
Windows XP Drivers and Software>Motherboards with ATI Graphics>Catalyst 6.1 Windows XP - Motherboard/IGP Drivers
All the components are separate so you could get all your drivers here and loosely follow what I suggested. Leaving the video drivers for last, but make sure you can get all your updates, including Microsoft's .NET Framework before installing any drivers. Perhaps that might have something to do with it. I do know you have to have that for at least the Catalyst Control Panel...not sure what else depends on it

  • New phone insurance policy change?!

i just upgraded my phones in december, both of them currently have cracked screens. the last time i needed to send my phone out it was free. This time they're telling me that its gonna cost me $150?! because the policy changed in September '13?!

    Hi Mrsheffner12,
One cracked screen is frustrating enough! To have cracked screens on not one, but both of your phones is understandably disheartening. I’m happy to see you regularly purchase Geek Squad Protection (GSP) on your phones as it allows you the opportunity to fix issues like this at a much better value than buying a new phone outright.
Yes, a $149 service fee has been added to GSP plans on cell phones. This change is in effect for GSP plans attached to phones on or after September 1st, 2013. The fee is only assessed in the event that the problem with the phone is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Most cases of accidental damage, including cracked screens, are generally not covered by the manufacturer so the repair includes the service fee. To coincide with the added service fee, the monthly cost of the GSP plans for phones has been lowered. You can see the full terms and conditions of our GSP plans here.
I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us here on the forum. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Upgrade Policy Change Catch 22

Simplified pricing; ya you are doing this to help me out.  Typical Verizon nonsense with some not so cleaver scam wording.  No one actually believes you are making this policy change to simplify anything, it's targeted to hurt customers and make more money.  I said it years ago when the CDMA iPhone rumor started it would be nothing but trouble for those of us who don't want that Apple garbage.  Now its here, soccer moms, over privileged high school kids, and stupid hipsters rejoice while the rest of us suffer.  I have taken a bunch of bandwidth tests and saved screenshots on my Droid X just so I can get a lawyer and sue your company when my service degrades due to this nonsense.  Your network nodes in the CT/NY area already have problems handling the current load, never mind all the rats coming over from the AT&T ship.  They should just stay there as the quality of iOS matches the quality of AT&T's service.
This rant however is not about the garbage iPhone.  If people are smart they will wait till June when Apple releases the iPhone 5 4g LTE, but again I would not call iPhone users smart so I am sure Verizon will make a killing off of people buying year old technology at new technology prices.  I only mention the iPhone because its the reason I have lost my early upgrade option.
My problem with this change is that those of us who are grandfathered in for one last early upgrade now get to face a catch 22.  Per the terms of the early upgrade I have to sign another two year contract, something that has not bothered me for the past 10 years I have been with Verizon because they have always let me upgrade a year later, even with a two year agreement.  It is NO LONGER worth signing a two year agreement with Verizon.  Who keeps a smartphone for more then a year?
From a financial standpoint, paying the extra $70 up front when I buy a new phone so that I am on a one year contract and thus can upgrade every 10 months for a discounted price makes far more sense.  The problem is that I can not go to a one year contract and take my last early upgrade.  Again, the terms of the early upgrade state I need to sign a two year agreement.
What this means is I have to wait another year and a half for the full 24 months to run out before I can get a phone at an upgrade price, or upgrade in six months with my last early upgrade but then be stuck with that phone for 20 months unless I want to pay $600 for a new device.
For those who say Verizon is loosing money with people early upgrading your delusional.  Below is one source and one example, but there are many more out there just use google.
    http://gizmodo.com/229664/iphone-only-costs-250-to-make-rest-of-price-is-fanboy-tax
I have seen new numbers that state the iPhone 4 actually costs around $200 to make, because while technology has gotten better, its also gotten cheaper since the original iPhone release.  Even if you include R&D costs, they are still making a killing on full retail price phones. There is no reason to assume that all the smartphones they sell have a similar markup.
Furthermore, don't forget the money they are making on service, those hidden fees they throw in on your bill, and ALL THE BLOATWARE.  That's right, they are making money off of the spam they force on your phone like Amazon MP3, NFL, Blockbuster, Skype, etc.  When does it end?  Whats even worse is that If I pay full price for my phone I still have their bloatware installed, which can't be removed.  So they are double dipping by making money off of bloatware and then charging me full price for a phone.  YOU CHARGE ME FULL PRICE FOR A PHONE AND STILL ADD BLOATWARE I CAN'T REMOVE THAT YOU MAKE MONEY ON BY PUTTING ON MY PHONE!  Why should you make a dime off of the device if I am the one paying full retail?  You should not make money on bloatware if I pay full retail price.
I should not have to get stuck in a two year contract again to use my last early upgrade.  You have made changes to your policy that now prevents me form upgrading every year like I have always had available in the past.  You are saying you grandfathered me in for one last upgrade but that upgrade forces me into this new total nonsense policy.

    @dunkinh
"Since you're so much smarter than us iPhone users, I'm sure you make enough money to buy phones at retail.  Then you can upgrade whenever the heck you want. "
Oh you can count on that; but I work for it unlike most of the iPhone hipsters that get it from their parents.  Notice most of the threads on this forum asking about upgrades are kids?  I am fairly sure if you crack that sucker open it says Fisher Price somewhere on the inside, which is why the iPhone is sealed.
    @Grothka
Is says your device is a HTC Droid Eris.  I don't know its current state, but that phone scores ~65 points higher on quadrent benchmarks after the bloatware is removed.  That may not seem like much but considering the phone get a dismal score of ~210 stock, the jump you get in 65 points really means a boost in performance by around 30%.  That performance increase you get by removing the bloatware is more noticeable on older droids that have less RAM and slower processors.  Apps like CityID and Verizon Backup are always running whether you use them or not, which sucks phone resources.  Bloatware does make a difference, unless you have rooted and removed it you have no idea how much it DOES effect your phone.
Nothing in your reply explains why VZW gets to make money off of bloatware [which they undeniably do] when you buy your phone full retail price.  It has been said they have pre installed applications [bloatware] installed to subsidize the cost they have to pay when they give you a discounted phone.  First that's a crock, they never loose money on a phone, even discounted but I will admit they are not making as much as full price.  Bloatware is extra revenue, not income needed to offset their discounted phone price.  Again, if you buy a phone at full price then why would they need to offset anything with bloatware as there is no loss in a phone discount.  My point is they are going to make money off of bloatware regardless of what price the phone sells at, that's why its on there in the first place.  It has nothing to do with keeping phone costs down, that's another Verizon LIE.
"They have no reason to allow you to get a 1 year contract on the EU as you have been made aware of all the changes that have been made."
Have you gotten a call, text, or letter from Verizon?  I still have not been made aware of this officially.  No one I know has.  There is no post on the VZW website, no information, etc.  They tried to SNEAK this by customers and keep it hush hush.  They still are for that matter and probably will never make an official announcement.  The only way we know is some VZW employee leaked information on the net.
As for what "we" have been told, nothing is official.  Honestly, do you really trust these reps?  In my 10 years with Verizon I have been told so much wrong information I no longer listen to a word they say.  These forums are PROOF.  How many posts with misinformation regarding the iPhone upgrade have you seen?  That's ONE example.  I have 10 years worth of them.
The simple fact is that it effects EVERY two year contract holder.  Does that seem like a minority?  The MAJORITY of people hold two year contracts with Verizon.  That means they do one of two things, upgrade every two years and get $50 off with the every two or upgrade after 13 months and get discounted pricing.  If you are a two year contract holder it was one of those two no matter what they say.  Therefore, I state again this effected every two year contract holder whether they realize it or not.  How is that a minority?  When your kid falls down and skins their knee you don't freak out, tell them its all right, and send them back to play.  If you don't do that they cry like hell.  Is it really alright?  No they are bleeding and injured.  The point is that Verizon is doing the same thing "Oh its alright, this is not a bad thing, its simplified pricing, it only effects a minority and not you."  They can shove it up their ... it effects every two year contract holder.
Per terms and agreement, if you did not take an early upgrade you got an every two discount; one way or the other you got something.  With that gone how does that only effect a minority?  Its just more Verizon **bleep** word games.
    @Wsuraider09
Oh I have NO plans on switching; everything you said is totally true.  I never said it wasn't.  What I am going to do is be a thorn in their side letting everyone know they are screwing customers.  If enough people complain, things will change.  We would not be dealing with this if that stupid kids toy of an iPhone was not being released on VZW.
BTW as for a lawsuit due to network overload:  http://tinyurl.com/5wloat7
We have several legs to stand on, not just one.  Don't even start with me about legal issues.  When I see a slowdown in my service this Feb 12th, they are going to get sued.  Have you have been around long enough to member the Motorola V710 lawsuit?  Remember that outcome?  I think we did alright.  My name is somewhere in that legal document.
They want to play games, we can play games back.  I am not like this till some tries to tell me "its no big deal" and then screw me out of money.  I am not rich, I work 60+ hour work weeks on an ambulance being exposed to all sorts of garbage to be able to live comfortable.  These over privileged executives that have a laissez-faire "let them eat cake" attitude can go sit on fence and spin.

  • [svn] 1435: Delete fles-sdk-description. xml altogether as it is causing issues when syncing to the sdk.

    Revision: 1435

    Log Message:
Delete fles-sdk-description.xml altogether as it is causing issues when syncing to the sdk. Because it gets updated every time you build it also gets marked by svn as being out of sync and that is a pain too so... I opted to just create it on the fly and then update it and not have it checked in
    Modified Paths:
    flex/sdk/trunk/build.xml
    Removed Paths:
    flex/sdk/trunk/flex-sdk-description.xml

    >>D:\GoldSun\Source Code\Flash\ExtentionTest\lib\Build>D:\SDKs\flex_sdk_4.5.1.21328\bin\adl -package -target ane DaveExtension.ane extension.xml -swc DaveExtension.swc -platform iPhone-ARM library.swf libDaveExtention.a
Either its a typo or by mistake you wrote adl in yout bat file. Change it to adt since that is the file that will package your ane. adl is just used for debugging/running on Desktop.
Hope this helps. let me know how it goes.
    Thanks,

  • HT1657 Once I rent a movie, I thought you had 24 hours (in the US) to watch it multiple times.  We used to see that but for some reason, we don't see the "rented" status to re-watch. Has that policy changed?

After watching a rented movie from Apple TV, it appears to disappear not giving us the option to re-watch again.  Has the policy changed?  We used to be able to see the "rented" status for 24 hours, indicating how much rental time we had left.

The 24 hour limit for the US hasn't changed, you should still be able to watch it as many times as you like within those 24 hours (and the 30 day limit from renting it, whichever ends the soonest). You should also be able to see the remaining time - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1415 :
On your device, the time remaining for you to finish watching the movie appears near the movie title.

  • Can too large a folder cause issues and effect performace of my Mac Pro

Hi, I have a 180 gb folder filled with important data within my Home folder. This folder has a many subfolders as well. The folder is on my startup drive and where I have Snow Leopard installed. Can too large a folder cause issues with my mac and effect performance? Thanks

another way to ask, would you make better use of, and improve I/O and performance, if you used your other drive bays? yes.
Boot drives with even less than 50% free is probably not a good idea. All depends on whether 200GB is on 1TB or on 500GB drive. And how fragmented free space even.
Lifting, loading and writing or copying 4GB files of course does have an impact, so if you work with 2GB files in CS5....
Having a dedicated type boot drive, media drive (and isolate media and library files) as well as scratch drive is normally done with Mac Pro.
The biggest bang in performance: lean mean SSD boot drive.
