Many websites, such as stories on Yahoo! just close after only ten seconds or so....it is maddening....only happens on my little Acer netbook running Windows XP.

It happens all of the time when I am trying to read stories on Yahoo.

Hello, Bee, thanks for responding -
1. 103.98GB free of a 200GB drive (I use an external 1TB drive for data storage; the internal drive is strictly for software).
2. Yes, but I think I've noticed occasional up/down loads which would transmit with no response, delay 5-15 seconds, retry maybe a few times (delaying each time) before re-establishing the connection, then continuing the transfer normally. (took 25min to download/install the 600+ MB 10.5.5 Combo Update)
3. Yes, and the cable company says everything seems to be working fine, which seems to be verified be speedtests (~3250 Kb/s down, ~305-325 Kb/s up). The ISP was the first thing I checked, since I had been downloading so many movies - I thought perhaps they had placed me on a restricted speed limit.
4. Nope, just spent a lot of the past two weeks making sure I've got all the latest and greatest. My brand new MacBook Pro was just purchased back in the Jun/Jul timeframe, and I experienced a GLORIOUS time of awakening until this happened. ---Sorta like getting a new super-Ferrari, and finding after a few months, it's now running on just two cylinders with the parking brake always on.
5. Yes, a Unix/Linux product called LimeWare which uses the Gnutella network to share video/audio, running only under 10.5.5 Leopard, but none under Windows (which I seldom even boot more than a couple times per month)
6. Never heard of it, but I just checked, and found no duplicates.
Any more ideas/suggestions? It's EXTREMELY frustrating when you are accustomed to blink-of-an-eye responses, but they now take from 1-to-8 minutes each.

  • Firefox is now closing unexpectedly shortly after I open it. There is not even enough time to click on help, then disable ad-ons. I also don't receive any error messages. It just closes after a few seconds. Help! Don't want to use other browsers.

I came here to post because it seems my question wasn't posting when simply clicking on "ask this question".

I think in the circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall is called for. Please follow these instructions.
Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0] and download a fresh installation file using IE8 or 9 and choose to save it to your desktop when you see the prompt.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to '''Mozilla Firefox '''and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
Then reboot and delete the folder called '''Mozilla Firefox '''at this location: ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

  • I updated to Acrobat X Standard 10.1.12 Update Just Quits after a Few Seconds

I updated Acrobat X Standard to Version 10.1.12.  But now when I run it, it just quits after about 10 seconds.
How do I Acrobat to run again?
    Thanks.

OK, I got Acrobat to work.
I read on another Adobe Forum that Deactivate is only an active menu option if a PDF file is open through Acrobat.  So, I used my "allotted" few-second window to open Acrobat, quickly open a file, and then open the Help menu.  Since I only had a few seconds for each attempt, I had to practice a bit to do this.
After a few tries, the EULA dialog box popped up and I was able to ACCEPT the agreement. (Because of the very short time window before Acrobat shut down, I'm not sure really if I could retrace my steps from the Help Menu on.)  However, once was able to accept the EULA, Acrobat has been working.
It's been a good week now since I did this, and all is well...

  • I just instaled firefox 4 on my Acer netbook with Windows Vista Basic. Now the typing is very slow, ie. cannot keep up with my typing speed, which is not fast. Any ideas?

I have an Acer netbook, with 2GB ram and Vista Basic. I installed firefox 4 and now the machine cannot keep up with my typing. The letters are delayed appearing on the screen in all apps, but especially in email, and words just get lost if I type too fast, and I am not a fast typist. Should I remove firefox 4?

Have you tried updating your software? The issue with the keys will either be a software issue or an issue with your hardware, if you're on the newest software try re-installing it. It's very simple to do using the desktop software, if this does not work it seems to be a hardware issue, meaning repair or replacement is needed.
Also, updating/re-installing your software should also resolve any slow/freezing issues and hopefully stop your dialling problem.
    Hope this helps

  • ITunes no longer runs since buying Match. Within ten seconds of opening, it crashes, everytime. Firewall off, latest version of iTunes reinstalled, Windows updates/etc. on, no other software running at the same time. Error-report just says reinstall.

I can no longer use iTunes whatsoever.
I'm hoping to get a refund for the $25 wasted on match if my PC isn't compatible. But how the **** do I get iTunes as a whole to stop crashing?
I'm on Windows 7 with AMD C-50 processor and 2GB RAM, 250GB hard disc.
Never had an issue with Apple products before today.
Windows error reporting claims that "an update to iTunes addresses the issue", but not only did I have 10.5.3 already, I went ahead and reinstalled it, too, and the 64bit version just for the **** of it in case that'd make difference. No luck.
I mean, surely, the fact that this is only happening to me means it is a problem with my system. But I don't suppose its the usual stuff that way, way inexperienced computer users end up on these forums about. No viruses (are there PC viruses that only affect iTunes match? sounds far fetched.) No firewall issues. Not running outdated software. I imagine its my CPU, my hardware, thats just not compatible with Match.
Anyways. The crash occurs about 20% into the progress bar of gathering info about your library for match. When restarting, it asks to log off and log back in to the itunes store. A few times I was able to do that, by getting to the little X and cutting off match before it could crash (still logging out and logging back in made no difference), but now the speed at which it gets to the 20% and crashes is so fast I can't beat it to it.
Do you suppose the Apple store at the mall, since I just got a 4S with Apple Care+ might be able to help me, or would there be a fee? I can't afford a new computer right now, and if mine just could never work with match period, might I get a refund?

How big is your library?  I would recommend the following troubleshooting steps:
    - Backup your library.  Always a good idea before messing with things.
    - Create a new library.   Refer to this article for details:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589.  This won't delete your old library, you're just creating a new empty one.  Also refer to this article to get back to your old library later.
    - Add a few albums into this new library.  Not everything, just a small sampling, as a test.
    - Activate Match on this new library.  You shouldn't have to re-pay, it should just say "Add Computer" or similar.
    - At this point, Match should run again. With just a few albums it should complete in just a few minutes.
If iTunes doesn't crash at this point, then likely there's something about your original library that Match doesn't like - what that is I don't know, but at least you'll know it's not your PC.   If iTunes still crashes, then if could be a number of other things, but probably not your library.   My next suggestion (if you haven't already done this) is to uninstall / reinstall iTunes.   If that doesn't work, then my next ideas you won't like.

  • Trying to open a received text message with many photos and application closes after 3-4 seconds

I have an iphone5s.  I received a text message with many photos attached.  when I select that message to open, there is a 2-3 second delay before it will open.  Once it does open, it will remain open for 3-4 seconds and the messaging app closes.  All other messaging features work fine.  It's just this one message with all of the pictures attached.

  • When I go to play an app it just closes after 10 seconds

I click on the app and then it loads up and then the screen goes black and goes back to the main menu help?

Try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and Home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data doing a reset.

  • Firefox does not load; it just hangs after 5-6 seconds. Any ideas?

When I attempt to open Firefox, I get the opening page with no data, then after about 5 seconds I get the beach ball of death. I am running OS10.6 on an iMac. The problem started after I cleared History files.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • How do you resolve the problem of ipad not staying connected to internet. other laptops remain connected but ipad just disconnects after about 5 seconds.

how do you resolve the problem of ipad not staying connected to internet when other devices are connected. Ipad disconnects after about 5 seconds.

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.
If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

  • Can't get sound from many websites.

I can't get sound on my PowerMac from MANY websites (such as Hallmark.com, YouTube, some blogs, etc.). Yet I'm able to get sound on those same sites on my iBook. The PowerMac has no sound problems on other websites or in iTune function, sound effects, output or input. Anyone out there experience a similar problem or have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thanks.

Hi, why wouldn't you suspect the earbuds, since if I'm reading this correctly, they don't work with different software, or any of your devices?
On the Mac Pro, Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Itunes store's songs skipping after a few seconds of playing

I just downloaded a bunch of songs from itunes store and it's skip after a few seconds of playing, some help please?

You will not get recharged if you download them from the Purchased section of the iTunes Store and you are signed in with the Apple ID they were originally purchased with.

When I choose to open a new tab from a website, such as facebook, it always opens it in a new window. How do I change this to just opening a new tab. I tried changing the tab settings but it did not work. I did not have the problem until I started using firefox 4.

It is probably a JavaScript link.
You can probably force it where you want it with a keyboard shortcut
    either "Ctrl+click" or "Ctrl+Shift+click". see

  • I have stopped too many scripts in Firefox and I can't open any websites in Firefox anymore. I just get blank pages. What do I do now?

3 websites gave me this message:- "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete." I chose to stop the script each time. However I have stopped too many scripts in Firefox and I can't open any website in Firefox anymore. I just get blank pages. What do I do now?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the [[Uninstall Firefox from your computer#w_uninstall-firefox|Uninstall Firefox]] article.
'''IMPORTANT:''' On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do '''not''' check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox [[Profiles|user profile data]] will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
    * '''(On 32-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
    * '''(On 64-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox''
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the '''Program Files''' folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the '''Program Files (x86)''' folder.
#Look for a '''Mozilla Firefox''' folder. If you find one, right-click it and select ''Delete'' and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
