Mapping and transformation rules

Hi experts,
pls tell  me what is this mapping and transformation rules in context wz filw to RFC scenario.
what do u mean by transformation and transformation rules.
Thanks
veeru

Hi
Mapping and Transformation both are same,to understand clearly we go for transformation.
Generally we go for Mapping/Transformation when ever you want to change the source structure into required format of the target structure we gor for mapping ie. Transforming the one structure to another.
Ex:
Source Structure:
Fname
Lname
Empid
Fname------>CONCATE   theswe togetherly gives Name.
Lname------->CONCATE
My required Target Structure is:
Name(So to get Name we will use the CONCATE preefined functon under Graphical Mapping in Mapping Editor )
Empid

  • Maintain field mapping and conversion rule

    hi
    could you please tell me,
IN LSMW  5 th step, what is the role of maintain field mapping and conversion rule, please throw some light on it.
    Thanks

it will set up the connection between your defined "source field" and the field which has been maintained by your import method .

  • Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules//LSMW

    Hello Friends,
I want to add new fields in the step.no.5(Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules).
Indetail i'm going to upload the GL balances, for DR and CR line item fields are same so system is not accepting the same field value, so i have added 1 for the CR line item fields like in the below example.
    BSEG-WRBTR(Dr line item)
    BSEG-WRBTR1(Cr line item)
but BSEG-WRBTR1(Cr line item) field not displaying in the step.no.5 to mapping to source field.
please let me know the solution for this.
    thanks
    swapna.

    Hi,
I would like to ask few questions.
    1. Are you using batch input recording or using any program for uploading. (through LSMW)
    2. Whether all your debit or credit line items are same every transactions. I believe they should be same, because you are uploading the balances.
You should not have two similar fields for example, if it is WMBTR, then again WMBTR should not be there, it should WMBTR1 and WMBTR2. Make sure you have done the field mapping properly. When you have done the field mapping all the fileds must have been mapped. If any one of the fields are not mapped, then it will not be uploaded.
Please see the following LSMW sample guide:
    http://www.scmexpertonline.com/downloads/SCM_LSMW_StepsOnWeb.doc
Maintain Object Attributes Do the recording - Make sure that you do not have two fields with the similar name. If you have two fields with the same name double click on the field name and add1 or 2 to differentiate between field names. Just Copy those fields and descriptions in excel sheet, delete the blank lines, then in excel data => text to columns, your field names and descriptions will be now in two columns. Copy them, then put your cursor on the next sheet, then edit => Paste Special => Transpose, all the columns will become your rows. Now your file structure is ready. Maintain Source Structures Give some unique structure name and description Maintain Source Fields Here you add the fields that are being used in EXCEL first sheet, just copy them and make all the fields as C (Constant) and then give length of 60 for all fields. Maintain Structure Relations Though structure relations are already created just go to this step, click on edit, then click on create structure relation, just accept the message stating that the structure relation has already been created. Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules Do the field mapping for all the fields, all the fields willl be stretched and you will see five rows against each row. In case if there is any row that has NOT stretched means, there is something wrong in the mapping. Maintain Fixed Values, Translations, User-Defined Routines There is nothing to be done at this step. You can simply ignore this. Specify Files Make you must have saved your excel file as .txt (before saving make sure you have copied data from sheet2 to sheet 3 and then sheet 3 is saved at tab delimited file. Text (Tab delimited) Select your file, make SURE that you have select "TABULATOR" radio button and say OK. Assign Files Go to this step and click on Create assignment button and accept the message and say ok. Read Data Remove two check boxes and just click on execute button. See the log. Make sure you have number of entries (lines) in your excel file are matching with this. Display Read Data Display data give 1 to 999 lines and double click on one of the line and see whether fields are mapped correctly are not. Convert Data Execute and see the log match the number of entries. Display Converted Data Display converted data, give 1 to 999 and double click on one of the line and see whether fields are mapped correctly or not. Create Batch Input Session Check on Keep Batch Input sessions check box, then execute. If you select that check box, even after execution it will be there and you can analyze what happened. Run Batch Input Session (Takes you to SM35) Go to SM35 select the batch and click on process button (execute), make sure you have checked right hand side first three check boxes and FOREGROUND (because you want to save what it is creating) Say OK Keep on press ENTER on your key board in order to move the session further. If you follow these steps along with the guide, surely you should be successful. There may be small difference between the file and what I have explained but ultimately the purpose is same. Hope this is useful and let me know in case if you have any issues.

    hi ram,
I think u have gone wrong in the first step itself............
    Do like this,
    1) Goto Maintain Object Attributes
    2) Select Batch Input Recording and Enter Ur recording Name
    3) Then Select Recording Overview...
    4) Thne Press DEFAULT ALL on ur Application Toolbar or Select EDIT-> DEFAULT ALL
    5) All ur Source Fields will be mapped for Recording Fields......
    6) Now u can see ur Fields in Field Mapping and Conversion Step......
I hope this will work u r doing with BATCH INPUT METHOD...

  • Technical Design Review Question: Data target Mapping and transformation

I got my hands on technical design documentation for a project on COPA budget. I came up with a few questions but I will post them separately for fast closing and awards:
In the discussions of Data target Mapping and transformation, there was a table of characteristics, showing dimensions, BW filed, Source field, data type, etc.
    1. What is the technique in deciding which characteristics get grouped together into a particular dimension?
    2. Why do some dimensions only have one characteristic and what is its significance?
    3. I saw one BW field, OVAL_TYPE (description= valuation type) included in three dimensions: Customer, Material and Valuation Type(only field=OVAL_TYPE). What is the significance of this repetition?
    Thanks

    Morning,
To define Dimension means, to group all characters together, which do have a relationship "1 to n" and not "n to m" to reduce data volume (cardinality). If you reduce cardinality (which means to define 1:m relationship whenever it is possible and group them within one common dimension) you increase performance (make performance better) because of less data volume. It is essential to understand that this can not be changed easily after definition in PROD. So data modeling is also from this point of view very important.
    Example:
An accounting object has a "m:n" relation ship to the accounting partner object. that's the reason way accounting object and accounting partner object do not belong to the same dimension.

  • OWB 9i -Mapping and Transformation

From the Module Editor I created the sample_mapping using the MAPPINGS/Create Mapping. All I see is the single option to create the mapping and there is no option to attach a module to the mapping name. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

It was step 2, 3 and 4 under section "Create Mappings and Transformations" found in document "Creating a Data Warehouse Using Oracle Warehouse Builder " on here OTN. Has the process changed in OWB9i?.

  • Lsmw..........Step 5: Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules

    Hi All,
After maintaining all the four steps in LSMW, when I goto Step 5, I cannot see any fields which I have created in recording to map the fields to source fields. If i remember correctly there is a button to click to see all the fields under "Fields" after TCODE. Can anyone explain how to see all the fields which I have created using the recording session.
Any inputs will be highly appreciated. I can explain the issue if some one didnt get this?
    Regards
    Shane.

    Hi All,
My question is, In step 5, when I go to map fields, under the "Fields" I can only see four sub nodes. and they are
      Fields
              __BEGIN_OF_RECORD__ Before Using Conversion Rules
                        Rule :   Default Settings
                        Code:    MATMAS = INIT_MATMAS.
              TABNAME                      Table Name
                        Rule :   Default Settings
                        Code:    MATMAS-TABNAME = 'MATMAS'.
              TCODE                        Transaction Code
                        Rule :   Default Settings
                        Code:    MATMAS-TCODE = 'MM01'.
            __END_OF_RECORD__   After Using Conversion Rules
                        Rule :   Default Settings
                        Code:    transfer_record.
My question is after TCODE, i should see all my fields to assign the source structre fields. I can also send the screenshot if anyof you can reply to my sapshane27 at gmail

    Jerome,
    The same issue.
Here are some fields which are different in terms of length when mapped in transformation rules
    ODS                    |Data Source
    PROD_CATEG     CHAR32           |Category_GUID      RAW 16
    CRM_QTYEXP     INT4          |EXPONENT      INT2
    CRM_EXCRAT     FLTP16          |EXCHG_RATE     Dec 9
    CRM_GWEIGH     QUAN 17, 3     |Gross_Weight     QUAN 15
    NWEIGH          QUAN 17, 3     |Net_Weight     QUAN 15
    CRMLREQDAT     DATS 8          |REQ_DLV_DATE     Dec 15
The difference is either some dats field are mapped to decimal, or the char 32 field is mapped to raw 16 OR Calweek, Calmonth is mapped to Calday
Both mostly all the ods field size is greater than the input source field.
    Thanks

  • Calling Classes and Methods in Transformation Rules

    Hi,
I have transformations from Level 1 to Level 2 ODS where based on the source fields Date of Sale(ZDSALE) I have to derive Period to Date and Year to Date from the class ZBI_UTILITY_METHODS and method ATTRIBUTES_GET.  How do i incorporate this in my start and transformation routines. Can someone please give me the code for this and also give some sample codes where classes and methods are called in the transformation rules.
    Thanks
    Priya.

    Hi Priya,
I suggest you the way to call method in the class like this:
DATA: o_model          TYPE REF TO ZBI_UTILITY_METHODS.
" define v_return variables based on type the method give the value
      CREATE OBJECT: o_model.
      v_return = o_model->ATTRIBUTES_GET( transfer parameter ).
      free o_model.
Hopefully it can help you a lot.

  • Transformation Rule Type "Read from DataStore

    Hi All,
i have two DSO's (Header and Item) my requirement is in the Item DSO i have a field Bill-to party in the same way in my header DSO also Bill-to party
i need to fill Bill to party field in header DSO with Item DSO Field Bill-to party by using the rule type Read from Data store
in the item DSO i have two key fields. in both the DSO's (header and item) only one common key field Document Num .i am assigning Docnum in transformation but i am failed to fill bill-to(Error-Cannot read from Datastore ). Please guide me how to achieve this.

    Hi.
I think the problem is that the transformation rule needs the full target key fields (at item level) to be mapped in order to get the result value. Elsewhere, if more than one record are found more than one result values are to be found as well.
It would work if you are reading Header DSO as all Items will get just one record as result.
This can be solved using start/end routines ABAP programming.
    Hope this helps.
    regards.

  • Reg: introduction of DTP and Transformation in BI 7.0

    Hi all,
I've two questions here one is:
    1. what is the purpose of introduction of DTP with NW 7.0 BI 7.0
i know the bcoz of these reasons:
    >Improved transparency of staging processes across data warehouselayers
    >Improved performance:Intrinsic parallelism
    >Separation of deltamechanism for differentdata targets: deltacapability is controlledby the DTP..
    >Enhanced filtering indataflow..
    >Repair modus based ontemporary buffers (bufferskeep complete set of data)
but can any one explain me how this happens in detail.
    coming to my question 2.
Why transformation replaced tranfer rules and update rules
    (excluing graphical UI)
    Regards
    Ganesh

    >Improved transparency of staging processes across data warehouselayers
PSA to multiple datatargets allows you transparency and overcomes the spiderweb of export datamart
    >Improved performance:Intrinsic parallelism
need not have to wait for one infoprovider to load(datamart) to load the consecutive dataprovider  - data can be parallely loaded to different providers at the same time once the data is in PSA
    >Separation of deltamechanism for differentdata targets: deltacapability is controlledby the DTP..
delta in DTP's is governed by datamart status
    >Enhanced filtering indataflow..
you can set ur filters independent of any other dataproviders like in datamarts .
    >Repair modus based ontemporary buffers (bufferskeep complete set of data)
error stack allow you to resurrect the data and load it again
Why transformation replaced tranfer rules and update rules
transformations and DTP have 1:1 relationship - so if u pretty sure to use DTP (ur 1st question) - the pre req would be to have transformation - u can create a DTP only after you create a transformation(source and target mapping )

  • How to do Currency conversion thru transformation rule BI 7.0

    Hi all;
I am loading data from flat file to the cube. The flatfile contain Source currency (USD) and Incentive Amount base on Source currency.
In my cube I have an object call Source Incentive Amount and anohter object name Planning(Local) Incentive Amount.
How do I convert that Source Incentive Amount(USD) to Planning(Local) Incentive Amount (EUR) thru a transformation rule so I can map 1 Incentive Amount from the flat file to 2 Incentive objects in the cube.
Note: The planning(Local) currency is not on the flat file, I have to pull it from the cost_center object and I don't know how to pull that either.

  • Problem in Transformation rule in BW due to change in Table FieldName

    Hi Everyone,
we already have a DSO, IC & MP in BW..
now we want to add a new field in R3 & same has to be replicated in BW as well. we have added it successfully.
but my problem is in Table we have changed the field name of one of the object(from ZGROUP to ZMARKET) which we already had one-one mapping in the transformation rules from DS to DSO.
now when i replicate my datasource & try to edit the transformation(to map the IO in DSO to changed field name of DS), it is giving a message "Field ZGROUP used in a rule does not exist in the source".
Do we have any other option other than changing the filed name back to ZGROUP in table & do the mapping successfully & activating the transformation rules?
    Regards,
    Pavan

    HI Rahul,
This is the what i get when i click on that message:
Field ZGROUP used in a rule does not exist in the source
    Message no. RSTRAN750
    Diagnosis
Field ZGROUP used in a rule no longer exists in the source, but it existed when the transformation was created.
    System Response
The rule is marked as invalid and is deleted.
    Procedure
If you need the rule, add the missing field to the source before saving.

  • Mapping in Transformations

    Hi Experts,
Need help in mapping of transformations: for csv file i want to know how to map a field from source to target. this is besides the deault mappings. one field from source can be mapped to more than one fields in target?
i get a short dump as part of creating DTP. your guidance needed.

BI 2004S - Assuming that you already defined your datasource, have infopacakge to load your data into PSA from csv.
You can map one source field to more than one target field. Tcode RSA1 - Modeling Infoprovider - Expand your infoprovider (cube, ODS, ...) to reveal Transformation (i.e. Update rules in 3.x) - Rightclick - choose Change, a new window will open on the right side - Position the cursor on the right edge of the source field, left click & hold while dragging the cursor to the target field, then release the mouse (you can then reapeat the same steps for the same source field to another target field)
There are more than one place that you can create DTP. One of it is go to Modelling Datasources  - Rightclick on your datasource - Choose create Dta Transfer Process - Field in the fields - choose the green check mark (another screen willl open) - under Extraction tab, I recommend choose Extraction Mode DELTA, leave the rest with default values - Choose the icon near the hat to activate the DTP - To execute the DTP, choose the EXECUTE button under the Execute tab (this will load your data from PSA to the infoprovider only once, with the DELTA mentioned earlier). To reload again, run your infopackage FULL mode, and run your DTP DELTA mode.
    Hope this helps.
