Mapping Entity beans to existing database tables.

Hi All,
I am using the RI of the J2EE (1.3.1) server provided by SUN. While deploying an entity bean I don't want to create a table by default, I want it to map to an existing table in the database. I find no DB column/EJB field mapping facility in the deploytool.
Is it not possible or am I missing something....
Thx n Rgds
Lorenzo

Hi!
I'm using a different J2EE server (OC4J). But got this from the J2EE RI guide.
If you do not want the container to create the table during deployment, follow these steps:
1. In the Application Deployment Tool, select the Entity tab of the entity bean.
2. In the Entity tabbed pane, click Deployment Settings.
3. In the Deployment Settings dialog box, de-select the checkbox for "Create Table on Deploy."
HTH.

  • How to mapping Entity beans to existing database tables.

    dear all
how can i mapping Entity beans to existing database tables and not to create new table in Orion.
    thanks for any input.

    * You define the name of the table that an Entity EJB maps to in orion-ejb-jar.xml. For eg:<entity-deployment name="MyEntityEJB" data-source="MyDS" table="MY_DB_TABLE" ...>* If you don't want to let Orion create the tables for your EJBs, have the following entry in either of the files given below:<orion-application autocreate-tables="false" ...>1) <orion-home>/j2ee/home/config/application.xml (global effect)
    2) orion-application.xml file of that particular application (application specific)

  • Generating an Entity Bean from a Database Table

I am following the tutorial "How Do I: Generate an Entity Bean from a Database
Table?" and in that process doing the "Configuring a Data Source". This is the
message I get when I configure a data source per the tutorial and click OK. This
data source exists and the information is correct that I have supplied.
Do I need to put the MS jars somewhere to enable this?
    See attached file

I've just figured it out. An input source also takes a Reader in its constructor. I was thinking that it only took an InputStream, and as the Serializer requires you to set a Writer on it, I was finding it impossible to convert between bytes and chars. Now, I have simply set a blank CharArrayWriter on the Serializer, got a char[] from it once the Serializer has written the Document to the stream, and then constructed a CharArrayReader with this char[]. It works fine now. Not that anyone read the problem anyway cos I solved it a few minutes after I posted it. Considering it first cropped up about 4 months ago and it has been niggling ever since, I am pleased!

  • [HTML DB] How to use the existing database table?

[HTML DB] How to use the existing database table?
I installed Oracle 10g database in Computer A(Windows 2000), and I already create all the tables with data and the data size is about 300MB.
    In Computer B(Windows 2000), I installed HTML DB 1.6.
How can I use /get the existing database table (in computer A) for HTML DB?
Could anyone help me on this? I am newbie and I need some detail instructions. or Where can I find the examples.....
    Thanks

Well I guess if you wish to retain that architecture, i.e. HTMLDB on one machine and your data on another, you will have to establish database links to access the data. Oracle documentation will describe how to achieve that.

Can one entity EJB have attributes split between (mapped to) multiple databse tables?
Would CMR work properly between two such entity EJBs (both mapped to multiple database

    Hi Milos.
Can one entity EJB have attributes split between (mapped to) >>multiple databasetables?
A CMP Entity should be always mapped a record in a single DB table.

  • Mapping Entity Beans to physical DB schemas

Does any one have any idea whether sun application server(PE) supports mapping an entity bean to a table in a schema in a database, when using CMP
    eg
    something like insert into schema_name.table_name

Thanks ian, what you say is completely true. However if you have a database with multiple schemas and then you use the capture-schema utility to obtain a perticular schema(For example say abc). Then you deploy the entity beans on the application server. The entity beans use a connection pool which logs in as 'system' to the database.
In this case since i use a captured schema the application server does not create the tables.Since the application server does not reffer to scehma 'abc' on it's insert statement the sql fails (we are logged in as system, so the default schema is system). It is possible to create and use a user 'abc' for schema 'abc', bu this means creating seperate database users for each schema and creating sepperate connection pools for each schema.
Is there any way we can indicate to the application server during deployement to use a specific table from a specific schema(Physical DB schema). I can specify to use a table from captured schema, but in order for this to work the application server needs to be logged on to the database as that schema's defualt user.

  • Mapping XML data to relational database tables

I'm writing an application that has two parts: the client part generates XML documents and sends them across the network to a server part, which parses the XML, maps the XML to various RDBMS tables and stores the data in the RDBMS.
I've got everything working using SAX, but now any change I make to the XML schema and/or the RDBMS table structures in the future will mean some serious code changes.
Has anyone worked with this scenario and developed a better method of handling this mapping? All the previous efforts in this area seem to be RDBMS to XML, which is of no use to me.
If you had to do this this, how would you approach it? I'm using XML for ease of reading, as the client has code to allow for documents to be written to the disk if no connection to the server is available, and the server does the same if no database connection is available.
    Thanks in advance ...

OK, to reply to my own posting for future reference, I've found an open source project called Osage at http://sourceforge.net that does what I need. I'm looking at it now and can't say if it's everything I want, but it seems likely to fit the bil.

  • CMP entity bean update after database update

I'm new to JDeveloper and J2EE. Since JDev 10.1.3 is now production software I finally got started with it. Everything was quite simple to achieve however I have one problem.
My current setup is faily easy. I have a statelss session bean and a CMP entity bean using TopLink (both EJB 2.1). Getting them both created went smooth and having the two talk was as easy as pie thanks to Jdev.
The problem I have is with the entity bean. I'm using a custom finder method to retrieve records using non-PK fields. This works like a charm and I'm getting the data I need. But when I update the data in the database (OracleXE) and I rerun the client I get the old data. The only way for me to get new data is to restart the embedded OC4J server in JDev.
How can I have the entity bean updated by changes in the database?

    Thanks Avi!
I spent some time with the documentation and I see I can configure the cache. However how to do this is not clear to me. I have the impression that most of it relates to BMP entity beans.
Apparantly there is a DoNotCheckCache method I can invoke on the query, but I have no idea how to achieve this...

  • Can we create external table from an existing database table ?

    Hi everyone,
    As i understand, its possible to create a new table based on an existing table without copying any values from it, using the following command;
    CREATE TABLE newtable AS
    (SELECT * FROM oldtable WHERE 1=2);
I would like to know whether we can do a similar thing with external tables. That is to create an external table with the same columns as of an existing table.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

You need to clear conception about external table.

  • Keeping Entity EJBs synchronized with Database

Is it possible that container managed persistance takes care of synchronizing entity beans' states with database record even if there is some external non-Java application that changes the state of the records straigth at database?
    For example:
    1. I map CMP entity bean to a database table's row and query it's state from J2EE client
    2. I modify some data releted to that particular bean in the database: change some values by command line (SQL+ at the case of Oracle) on the row in the table in the database
    3. I query again the same bean's state
Now, is the state I will get at the section 3 the same I got at section 1? If so, then CMP hasn't synchronized the bean's state and I get wrong value when reading it at second time.
Can I automatize this synchronization task some how? This is very important issue when trying to take J2EE architecture in use on old legacy database systems which still have their own non-J2EE clients running.

So if the entity bean is not used in a transaction it's state will not be re-read from the database, correct? There is no such thing.... if you invoke an entity bean in an unspecified transaction context I believe the spec defines it as a non-deterministic situation but in general the state will be re-read(but why would you want to do that?).
Has the container do a database query for each read of B bean state? This is a vendor specific issue.... it depends on your EJB container provider, I know some vendors have all kinds of configurations to optimize these situations.
Which are all the situations when an entity bean's state is (re-)read from the database? In general the state will be re-read at the first time a bean is invoked in a single transaction, but vendors offer a lot of mechanisms to configure all kinds of "sunchronization strategies".
Do you really mean that every time I read a bean's state it will be the same with the database?
Is there any exceptions? The important thing to notice is that we have to assume that state of the database
changes all the time by non-J2EE legacy clients. You should be able to control this with the locking mechanisms(as mentioned before) that your container and RDBMS provides. in your situation, it sounds like pessimistic concurrency control would be appropriate.

  • Container Managed Persistence entity bean relationship fields

I want to ask something that until now still confuse. Did Relationship fields in Container Managed Persistence entity beans declare , inside Database table or only Persistence fields .
If Relationship fields not declare inside database table ,how if SQL calls the relationship fields between related entity bean.
    did container handle this task.
    example: I have 2 entity bean with CMP(Container Managed Persistence)version 2.0
call Player and Team. every entity bean have own relationship fields and persistence fields.
player has playerId(primary key),name, position, age persistence fields and teams is relationship fields.
team has teamId(primary key),name, city and players is relationship fields.
I know that all persistence fields is declare in own database table but how about relationship fields.
can you tellme, How SQL calls can access relationship fields if relatiosnship fields is not declare in database table.
    I use J2EE RI SDK version 1.3
    and deploytool .
    thank's .

thank's for your reply .Now I have another problem
I use J2EE RI from java.sun .I try to follow example in j2eetutorial about CMP Example call RosterApp.ear .
I dont'change anything code inside RosterApp.ear but when I deploy and runclient command thereis syntax error :
java.rmi.ServerException: Remote exception occured in server thread :nested exception is java.rmi.ServerException :exception thrown from bean :nested exception is : java.ejb.EJBException :nested exception is :java.sql.SQLException :syntax error or access violation ,message from server: "you have an error in SQL syntax near "
"leagueBeanTable" WHERE "leagueId" = 'L1' at line 1
in example ,RosterApp.ear use Cloudscape database ,but I try to use Mysql database for RosterApp.ear ,is there any different syntax SQL from Cloudscape to Mysql .
if like that ,so I must edit first SQL calls from Cloudscape to MYSQL . I think because relationship fields is for entity beans only ,so how if mysql database want to access foreign key another table because foreign key isn't declare in databse table.
example : I have 3 entity bean call player, team, league .
    1. PlayerEJB have persistence fields name, position, playerId(primary key), cmr fields is teams
    2. TeamEJB have persistence fields name, city, teamId (primary key) , cmr fields is players and leagues .
    3. LeagueEJB have persistence fields name ,sport, leagueId(primary key), cmr fields is teams
    so table is
    PlayerEJB <--->TeamEJB<--->LeagueEJB
Player have some finder method call findBySport(String Sport) .
because Sport is persistence fields for LeagueEJB
so PlayerEJB must traverse TeamEJB first before LeagueEJB
EJB QL : SELECT distinct object(p) FROM Player (p) IN (p.teams) AS t
    WHERE t.league.sport = ?1
I know that Container will translates EJB QL to SQL calls ,but default is only for cloudscape database and I use for MYsql .
so can you helpme how to query method findBySport(String sport) to Mysql calls .
thereis no foreign key between table in database table there is only Relationship fields in entity bean.

  • Problems accessing tables in oracle database with ejb entity bean

I have created a simple server application that uses an entity bean (version 2.0) for an existing table in oracle database, and a session bean that is used as an outside interface for performing operations on that table.
after deploying the server and client application the client attempts to perform an operation with the session bean remote interface it obtained.
The session bean uses a locale interface to communicate with the entity bean, but when it tries to use its methods (create, findByXXX) it always get the following Exception: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
the table of course exists, and the username password I'm using has all the permissions needed for this table.
note - I'm using the Forte enterprise edition 4.0 as developer tool.

Well it seems like the problems has a simple explanation. The Forte assigns a default table name (<entityName>EJBTable) when creating an entity bean from an existsing table in DB (which is not the same as the one it was created from !!!). Also, for reason unknown, when you deploy these entity beans, it doesn't even create the new table under its new name (even if instructed to).
So using the Forte we managed to use successfuly only entity beans that were created "from scretch" (when deployed their tables are created).
Does anyone know how to change the default name the Forte uses, and make it work properly with entity beans created from an existsing table (without going over the xml's) ?

  • Should ADF Entity Object Map to Database Table or View?

We are building a new 3-tier JClient/ADF application. We have mapped most entity objects directly to database tables. Now that we are preparing to deploy, our DBA is angry; he believes that all entity objects should be mapped to database views. The developers see this as a headache, UML can not forward/reverse changes, and now we have another layer of abstraction, which doesn't seem to serve a useful purpose. What is the best practice in a new 3-tier application?

    Hi,
I'm still having problems but I found out why these tables are returning errors. The username I've been given by the DBA to connect to the database is CONSULTA, but this user is only for querying purposes, the actual objects reside on a differente schema, of course, which is PROD. So the line:
    "CONSULTA"."ESTADOS"@"PROD@AYADEV_LOCATION" "ESTADOS"
raises an exception because the table ESTADOS is not located on that schema, but on PROD. If I query the table from SQL Plus with:
    SELECT *
    FROM [email protected]@AYADEV_LOCATION
then there's no problem at all.
Why is this? How do I instruct OWB to point to the correct schema or to avoind fully qualifying the table name?
Please help me, I'm kind of confused here.
    Best Regards,
    --oswaldo.

    Dear sirs,
I have created the EJB project module and WEB Module. Now i have to map the CMP fields of the entity bean to the underlying table. Is it possible to map the cmp fields of the entity bean with out java dictionary? If yes how can we do that.
I have got some error while mapping an EJB's CMP fields to the table through dictionary. I was actually intended to map 79 fields but it gives an error that more than 64 fields are not allowed while building the dictionary.

    Hi,
Sudheesh please check up if the below link helps, there are other ways of writing the persistent.xml for container managed entity bean.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/9b/f695f0c84acf46a4e0b31f69d8a9b7/frameset.htm, probably in the studio you cannot browse through tables not inĀ  the java dictionary, but manually editing it may still solve the problem.
Also here is another link that specifies the databases supported by J2EE Engine.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/66/a5283eeb47b40be10000000a114084/frameset.htm
