Maps with 5-digit zip code boundaries

Hi,
I am trying to display zip-code level data in a map. Someone suggested that I should take a look at Oracle Application Express.
I find it meets most of my requirements. But there is one problem - the maps show 3-digit zip-code boundaries of US States.
However, I want to display data for 5-digit zipcode boundaries. Is there a map available for that?
Or is there a map application present with which I can integrate Apex to display data at 5-digit zipcode level with the boundaries already marked in the map?
Appreciate suggestions and assistance.
Thanks!

  • Values not showing up for 3 digit zip code maps of states

I've been tinkering with an app that displays the US, with a query that shows how many folks we have in each state. The link takes you to a page that displays the state/zip code style map. On the map of the US, I can see the label and the value from the query for all states. But in the state map, all that shows up are the labels. I have the map set to show values, but they won't display.
I'm using APEX 4.0.1 in a 10.2.0.4 database running on Windows.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi mjblake,
The Map Region columns (i.e. REGION_NAME, REGION_ID, etc) can vary for each Map source .amap file. So it's definitely worth referencing the AnyChart Map Reference Information when you're adding your map series query, to ensure that your query is referencing data that's actually contained in your chosen .amap file.
By default, the wizard will set the "Map Region Column" to REGION_NAME, as this the default AnyChart column. However, some maps, like the US State Zipcode maps, don't actually have a REGION_NAME column in their data, which is why you would need to update the "Map Region Column" on the Map Attributes page to your chosen column e.g. REGION_ID. In the case of the US State Zipcode maps, the available columns are REGION_ID, CENTROID_X and CENTROID_Y, as shown in this example: http://anychart.com/products/anychart/docs/users-guide/map_reference/United-States-of-America-3-digit-ZIP-Code-Maps-for-All-50-States-Alabama-Flash-Map.html?fromtree. You may not be aware of this, but when stepping through the Create Map wizard, on the 'Query' page, there's a Show/Hide region called "Map Region Information", which displays the AnyChart information associated with your selected map.

  • Sql help please with, finding all zip codes within a given radius.

I have a table which contains zip, city, state, latdec, longdec, latrad, longrad.
From search screen, if user want, zip code's within 10 mile radius of his zip code, what is the sql. I came up with following sql but it is not correct:
first, find his latdec long dec from his zipcode. Then add radius to those values and do select as follows:
    select zip,
    latdec, longdec,
    city, state, latrad, longrad
    from zip_coord
    where latdec >= (latdec - 10)
    and latdec <= (latdec + 10)
    and longdec >= (longdec - 10)and longdec <= (longdec + 10).
I think i need to include radians too, but i'm not able to come up with logical formula.
I would appreciate any help with this topic.
    Thanks in advance

u probably need to use oracle spatial option and store geoCodes for each address as a column in the address table . then doing this will be easy

  • TS1646 I have entered my ZIP code correctly but it's five digits long and the Store "corrects" it to the nine-digit version, which my bank doesn't recognize.

I tried calling the support line for this and got hung up on, but the only thing wrong here is what the iTunes Store is doing--"correcting" my five-digit ZIP code to a nine-digit version my bank doesn't recognize. It's not like I'm going to change my correct billing address for this, so what do I do?

Have your bank put the full 9-digit zipcode into your records. The postal service doesn't require them, but they prefer them. It's very common to have the zipcode changed by online vendors to assist in shipping.
The problem is with your bank. Their software should know better.

  • Zip code entry problem

On some websites there is a field requesting a 5 digit zip code. When I type the zip code into the field all 5 digits show--- when I tab to the next field, one of the zip code digits drops out (either first or last) and leaves only 4 digits. The information is returned as incorrect and asks (again) for a 5 digit zip code. What to do ???

I had this problem for a while using Safari to enter ZIP codes into some forms -- but only when the ZIP code started with (at least one) zero. The work-around was to use MS IE for Mac (which I hear is still available, just no longer supported) for those sites. It's probably worth trying FireFox, too.
I don't know whether the real problem is in Safari or in the web sites -- the same version of Safari worked on some sites but not others, so I suspect that the problem lies with the FORM definitions on the affected sites, in which case the real fix would be to convince the site designers to fix their forms.

  • Zip Code Locator / Store Locator

    Guys,
I want to write a simple store-locator functionality in my website (Using a Mysql db with JSP-java etc.,)
I am not sure of the tools I need and how to approach the problem (once I get a Map of all the zip codes)... Please throw in some ideas that can help me on this...
    Thanks a ton!

The earth is ~ 40,000 km equatorial circumference
    Mapped as rectangular projection ignoring poles is 40,000 km x 16,000 km = 640,000,000 1km x 1km cells
    so 1 byte/km2 = 640 MB
    or 1 word/(250m x 250m) = 4*4*4*640MB = 40GB
So a reasonable brute force method for the planet (and a few big memory servers or a not very big fast disk) would work in most cases.
Obviously, if you're only interested in one part of the globe you scale down.
The USA is something like 10,000 km square so a 60 520GB disk would give you a 1/sqrt(500E9/4/(10E6m^2)) = 28m resolution lookup at < 10ms time per request.
A second lookup of the id returned from the big bitmap using the nearest neighbour approach for a few points would take you further, if required.
How much is your time worth to develop an efficient solution, if throwing 60 of hardware at it would be good enough?
Short of buying an awful lot of memory, any solution will hit the disk at least once (though you may be able to optimise away seeking, it's a query and won't be streaming whatever you do), so the overall time isn't likely to get much better without a lot of effort.
You can always trade off between the bitmap/localised query for space and speed.

  • Zip Code reverse lookup

I have created a feedback form for visitors to an airshow and the results are shown here http://hollisterairshow.com/feedback-results.php. I would like to add a column beside the zip code showing the city. On looking around I have found several free zip code lookup sites and temporarily added a link to one of these on the feedback results page,  but I think my users would find it more useful if I just show the city alongside the zip code. I'd really appreciate suggestions on how to do this.
    Thanks.
    Tony

Never mind. I found a downloadable list of 5 digit zip codes with city/ state so imported it (all 42,000+ entries) into a table on an existing db.

  • How can I keep the leading zero in zip codes from disappearing in Numbers spreadsheet?

I have a spreadsheet with addresses, and the leading 0 of the zip codes (thanks New Jersey) keeps disappearing... How do I correct this?

    Penny,
It's easy for 5-digit ZIP codes to use the Number System format. Set to Base 10 and 5 places. Part of the goodness of this approach is that if you have already lost the zeros to the Automatic Format, this will reconstitute them.
ZIP 5 plus 4 codes are not a problem because the dash in the middle causes a default to Text.

  • Some websites show my location wrong zip code, how do I change zip code?

At some websites firefox shows me as located at a wrong zip code. Where does it get this information and how do I change it so it comes up with the correct zip code?
    Checked these:
    http://whatismyipaddress.com/
    http://browserspy.dk/geolocation.php
First one is correct & the the 2nd one is NOT....

Which of the locations is wrong on the second (browserspy) link?
The IP based map should show that same location as whatismyipaddress.<br />
The Geolocation Based Map is empty for me (Latitude is undefined; Longitude is undefined) and may only work properly if you use a wireless connection to a known hotspot.

    Good.
Stick with this handle, ok?I must say I am not thrilled with
    a) when I questioned the first post of WhiteSox asking if it was bugz or a classmate or what I was ignored by the OP
    b) I guess the OP is trying to distance himself from his very first thread where somebody did part of his homework for him with results that are now plainly evident. As I predicted at the end of the last thread.

I hope that matsabigman and others who help homework posters by doing it for them will take note of the results of this help thus far. Not much good has come of this.
BigMan/WhiteSox I am still detecting a fundamental lack of basic concepts on your part. This is the underlying cause of your compile errors but those are only a symptom. You can continue treating the symptoms but it would be a better use of your time to treat the disease, which in this case means spending some time getting a better grasp of Java fundamentals.

  • ZIP-code grouping

I'm merging a database in to InDesign containing a 5-digit ZIP-code. The five digits are in a row (12345) but I want them grouped like 123 45, with a space between the third and fourth digit. Is there a way to do this automaticly?

When you say "merging a database in to InDesign", are you using the Data Merge feature of InDesign, or are you placing the Excel text into InDesign using either File/Place; or cutting and pasting from Excel to InDesign. If placing/pasting, I would use a GREP search. If using Data Merge, merge to a new document and again use a GREP based solution, unless you are merging directly to a PDF, and in that case I'm not sure how to do this besides manipulating the original data.

  • Zip Code Entry

Using Safari 1.3.1, whenever I type in my Zip Code (1----) in an address field, the "1" disappears prior to submission. This does not occur with Zip Codes beginning with "2" or higher. Any suggestions?

    MuffinM:
Check this solution out from Byron in a previous forum - I tried it, and it works!
    Big Apple Ikey
I was having this problem, too, but I think I just fixed it.
My ZIP is 19119. I had a ZIP+4 in the "My Card" information in Address Book and was having the same results: enter my 5-digit ZIP into a form and Safari lops off the first "1" leaving just "9119" and an unhappy form.
I removed the +4 information from "My Card," leaving just the 5-digit ZIP code. Forms now accept the full 5-digit ZIP with no lop-off.
I re-entered the +4 and the problem resumed. Took it out again, and the problem ceased.
Give this a try, folks. Let us all know if this works. Then write Apple, because it shouldn't work like that.

  • Format column in Numbers for zip code

how do I get a leading zero for zip codes??

start by selecting the cell(s) yu want to format, then go to the Format menu and choose Create Custom Cell Format:
    In the dialogue that opens:
Edit the name to reflect the use to which this format will be placed.
Leave the type as Numbers & Text
Note the example (orange circle) showing how a number will appear under the curent format.
Click the white triangle (see arrow) in the Integer tablet (red circle) to open the options menu.
Take three trips to the options menu:
    Choose Hide Separator
Choose Show Zeros for Unused Digits
    Choose Add Digit
Click OK to return to the document.
Note that this will work for the original five digit Zip codes. Extended five-four codes will be treated as text, as can be seen in the image above. and will not sort correctly (see column D of left table below). For correct sorting, format the column as text and enter the Zip codes including the leading zeros, as has been done in the single column on the right (before the column was sorted into the displayed order).

  • Holding Zip Codes in Numbers Spreadsheet

How can I format the columns in Numbers to keep the first zero in a five digit zip code when using a address spreadsheet?

I was having the same problem. You pointed me in the right direction but in 09 the prompts are slightly different.. Hilight the column. In the cell inspector, cell format, choose NUMERICAL SYSTEM and set the number of places to five.
It should now look right but before you save it, create a new column and format it as above into TEXT. Then copy the one you've fixed, and paste it into the new text column. This should save fine as cvs in any event, as well as numbers.

  • Expression - Zip Code validation

We have the field called Zip Code and this is a text field and 10 Chrs long.
    Field 1:  State
Field u2018Stateu2019 is a lookup field and  the lookup table has Country, state code and state name.
    Field 2:  Zip Code
Zip Code = text field and the length is 10 chrs.
The ZIP Code Validation should be either NNNNN format (Block of 5 digits) for standard ZIP Code OR
NNNNN-NNNN format (Block of 5 and 4  digits) for ZIP+4 format
For example, if the country = US and state = IL then the first digit of the postal code field will be 6 then remaining 4 digits must be numeric for the standard 5 digit Zip code.
Can anybody help me to write the expression. Full points will be rewarded.

    Hi,
    Try this it should work,
For example, if the country = US and state = IL then the first digit of the postal code field will be 6 then remaining 4 digits must be numeric for the standard 5 digit Zip code.
I am assuming here State = IL indicates state code = IL which is field in your Lookup table. As you said your Lookup table having fields Country, state code and state name
    IF(FIND(State.Country, "US") AND FIND(State.state code, "IL"), LEFT(Zip Code,1)=6 AND HAS_ALL_CHARS(RIGHT(Zip Code,4),0,9), FALSE)
otherwise if your State having IL value is simple text field in maintable then replace it as
    IF(FIND(State.Country, "US") AND FIND(State, "IL"), LEFT(Zip Code,1)=6 AND HAS_ALL_CHARS(RIGHT(Zip Code,4),0,9), FALSE)
    Hope it will Help you,
    Rewards if Useful......
