Master-Detail: create detail-row(s) with id already filled in

I have two tables with an one-to-many relationship (connected by 'id'). If you select a row from the master-table, you'll see the detail-table (with the various row's belonging to the master-record). Now I made a button which users can use to add additional rows to the detail-table. They get a form which they can fill in and submit, the only problem is... I don't want them to manualy fill in the id, this should be the only field that should already be filled in (or better should be invisible, but filled in). So they should select a master-row first and then click 'add' to add a detail-row(s) to it. But I have absolutely no clue how I can do this... I tried creating custom create methods in the view-object or entity-object... but the problem I keep running into is where to get the row-iterator... I have know idea if this is the right direction to look for, maybe somebody can give me some advice.
Thanks in advance...!

Steven, hope you can help me out once more...
I have the same problem with a different view object, I'll explain...
First of all I set jbo.locking.mode to 'optimistic', now the problem...
I have two entity objects (Mbrships and Mbrshiphistory) which are connected by a foreign key (created in the database) on MbrshipID. Mbrshipshistory is also connected to the Aff entity object by a foreign key on AffID. The idea is simple... there are affiliates and a couple of memberships. An affiliate has/had a membership, that's where the membershiphistory-table comes in, which stores AffID, MbrshipID, DateFrom, DateTo and some other values.
Now, what I created... JDeveloper created entity-objects of all the tables and made associations of the foreign keys. I created the following view objects: http://213.93.142.238/oracle/datamodel.jpg and application module: http://213.93.142.238/oracle/applicationmodule.jpg The (MemberToMembershipHistory) view link between Members and MembershipHostory is based upon the association between the two tables.
The following is a screenshot of my struts-config.xml: http://213.93.142.238/oracle/struts-config.jpg
Editing mbrshiphistories works fine, but I get the following error when I try to add one: oracle.jbo.InvalidOwnerException: JBO-25030: Failed to find or invalidate owning entity. I also don't see the AffID already filled in in the add/edit-screen (same problem as in the opening-post) when I try to add one. I double-checked everything, but I can't find the problem. Do you know what I do wrong...?

  • Delete master record if detail records are empty

    I have a simple question and response system
    the user enters their details (record stored in table called source - pkey as id_src)
    the user then goes on to answer questions (in a form)
    those responses are kept in a separate table (responses)
    with a foreign key in each response row telling me the ID of the source ie fk_id_src
    the form has a SUBMIT and CANCEL button
    PROBLEM
    If a user registers their details (created a source record with an ID)
    but fails to answer and questions (the response table does not have any foreign keys to that ID source)
    what is the best way to AUTOMATICALLY delete the user record (if there are no detail records in the response table)
    (note: the main response form IS NOT an ADDT form)
    the checking process needs to be triggered by the CANCEL button
    ie if the user presses submit - responses will be made to the questions - ie they will be empy answers - but in this case it is valid to do so
    I was wondering about a custom transaction - with delete SQL -
    or using check detail records - but cant see how to get that to fire the delete record transaction?
    any guidance appreciated
    tia
    Paul

    OK
    I can create a separate page that checks if a detail record exists
    and display an error if it does
    on the same page I can add a delete transaction
    pass the master record id
    Both work, all OK so far
    BUT, the check detail throws its error message if detail records DOES EXIST
    I need to allow the delete transaction to run, if detail records DO NOT EXIST
    AND then
    redirect then page - wether the delete occurs or not
    any ideas?

  • Multi-Row panorama with Photomerge ...

    Hi,
    does somebody has experiences with stitching multi-row panoramas with CS4's photomerge?
    I always ended up with a very strange viewpoint somewhere into the sky instead of a straight horizont. It's somehow understandable - where should Photomerge know the horizont and the desired viewpoint from.
    So, are there any tutorials or hints how to create multi row panoramas with Photomerge - I searched a lot but didn't find any usable. Or do I have to use another tool like PTGui?
    Thanks a lot
    Konrad

    Yes, the first row are image in the orthognal plane around the vertical axis. Stitching them together result in a normal horizontal 360 pano.
    But I've a second row above the first one from the upper parts of the sourrounding. And using Photomerge they are not merged together in a way that places the first row in front of the horizont is still the same as for the first row - what's clear, because PS does known nothing about those semantics.

  • Is it possible to create Detail entity row before Master entity row?

    Hi All,
    I have a Master - Detail relationship. When I insert a row into the detail entity, I need to create a corresponding master record. Is this even possible? I've been fiddling with different association relationships, this.setNewRowState() commands, etc. for the past 12 hours and haven't made much progress. I came across this: http://adfjsf.blogspot.com/2010/12/row-statusinitialized-and-statusnew.html which gives me hope, but I can't for the life of me figure it out.
    Basically, I'm trying to override the Detail entity's create method with the following:
        RowSet addressId = (RowSet)this.getDocAddresses();
        NameValuePairs nvp = new NameValuePairs();
        Row row = addressId.createAndInitRow(nvp);
        row.setNewRowState(STATUS_INITIALIZED);
        addressId.insertRow(row);I get a "Detail entity Quotes with row key [null] cannot find or invalidate its owning entity" error. If I take off the composition association, I get an error saying the Qutoes row cannot be created.
    If you want to checkout my use case, you can do so here: How to create a master entity record from the detail entity.
    Any ideas?
    Will

    Here's another use case.
    In accounting software, documents such as Invoices and Deliveries create financial transactions. So say we have three tables: Deliveries, Invoices, Transactions. In the database, Transactions needs to be a Master table, Deliveries and Invoices the Detail table. This means that Deliveries and Invoices must have an associated financial transaction. To switch the dependencies around the other way (Order/Deliveries be the Master, Transactions the Detail) wouldn't work due to the foreign key dependencies i.e. The same transaction would have to be a child of both Orders and Deliveries, which would be incorrect.
    However, in the JDeveloper application an Invoice row (the Detail) would need to be created first, and then the Transaction (Master) would be created second. This seems like a logic sequence best created at the entity level. When I try to accomplish this, I get a row null or row cannot be created error. This is leading me to believe that in the JDev application, I will need to "lie" and reverse the association, putting the Delivery/Invoice as the Master and the Transaction as the detail.
    Is this the best way to go about solving this problem? I don't like putting in associations that don't match the database structure, but if I can't create a Master entity row from a Detail entity, it's looking like that's my best route.

  • Unable to create new rows in master detail

    Hi, I am new to ADF
    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6, I have two tables customer and contacts, customerId is a foriegnKey in contacts. when customer is deleted all the contacts need to be deleted.
    I have created an association (1 to * customer to contacts) between customerEO & contactsEO (checked Composite association, implement cascade delete option), and a view link (1 to * customerVO to contactsVO).
    I am testing the viewlink through AM, not using JSF
    when i am trying to create new row in details(contacts) table, the customer id is populating in details table.
    when i am trying to commit to database (Details table) i am getting the following error

  • Master-Detail Create Page

    After looking thru the threads, i didn't see an answer to my specific problem. I have the typical master detail relationship between two view objects. So, i created a view link object to link these two view objects together. What i need to do is from page 1, where the user selects a create button, they are taken to a jspx page that displays in a "new record" (blank inputs) mode for both the master and detail forms. It seems that by dragging a Create button from the palette on the previous page, i can only get a new master record to display or a new detail record to display, depending on which create button i used (from the master or the detail) in the data control palette. Do i need to handle the creation of the master row with it's create button, and then somehow programmatically create the detail row so that when the page appears, i can add a new record for both the master and detail tables? Thanks.

    Hi,
    usually it is difficult to create a detail record without master, which is why youshould create the master first. Otherwise you may run into situations in which the detail gets updated before the master,with the effect that the master doesn't exis.
    I tried coding this scenario in a managed bean, but though teh create form comes up showing both editable, the submit is somewhat tricky. At least you will have to use DB Sequences fro the primary key to ensure the detail is associated to teh correct master.
    Not sure if it is worth going this path

  • ADF Master Table, Inline Detail Table - How to Scroll Range/Disclose Row

    JDev 10.1.3.2 ADF/BC
    I really need some help here. I've tried as many things as I could think of and I still cannot get this to work.
    Scenario: I have query/result page. User clicks a link in the result table to take him to another page. This page has a Master table, Inline detail table component (bound to a tree in the pageDef). Before the page renders, all I want to do is scroll the Master table to the current row (based on the previous query/result via invokeAction in pageDef) and disclose the inline detail. Simple, right? In addition, I'll need to scroll the inline detail to the current row as well.
    I would like to do this prior to the components rendering but would be interested in any coding to scroll and disclose.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

    I've come up with a solution to my problem. Unfortunately I'm not able to manipulate the table prior to rendering but this solution is probably the closest I'm going to get. Here is my code:
    I set up a af:poll component to fire once on my jspx.
        public void poll_PollListener(PollEvent pollEvent) {
            if (this.getFromProcess("unitRowKeyValue") != null) {
                int curIndx = this.getIteratorBinding("UnitsIterator").getRowSetIterator().getCurrentRowIndex();
                this.getUnitTree().setFirst(curIndx);
                if (this.getFromProcess("systemRowKeyValue") != null) {
                    this.getUnitTree().setRowIndex(curIndx);
                    DisclosureEvent de = new DisclosureEvent(this.getUnitTree(), true);
                    this.getUnitTree().queueEvent(de);
                this.storeOnProcess("renderPoll", false);
        }The setFirst method scrolls the table to the index specified. If the user, in my case, has selected a detail item (system), I want to disclose the detail. First I need to setRowIndex to the current index and then I fire a disclose event.
        public void unitTreeDisclosureListener(DisclosureEvent disclosureEvent) {
             if (disclosureEvent.isExpanded()) {
                 CoreTable coreTable = (CoreTable)disclosureEvent.getSource();
                 RowKeySet rks = new RowKeySet();
                 Object test = coreTable.getRowKey();
                 rks.getKeySet().add(coreTable.getRowKey());
                 coreTable.setDisclosureState(rks);
          }If I don't set the rowKey via the setRowIndex method above, the getRowKey does not return a valid rowKey. In my case, I only want one master row to be disclosed at a time.
    This all works great except for a bit of flicker to process the PPR request for the component.
    Next step is to see if I can scroll the Inline Detail table to the detail row selected in the Query/Result page.

  • Master / Details validation insert row details before master

    Hi,
    I have the following scenario:
    I have a form with a master details input.
    When I click on 'New' to add a record in the details, the validation of the input in the master alerts me that I should fill the inputText.
    If I fill the Master then the details, it will works.
    But, if I fill the details before the master, I got the validation to fill the records.
    What I want:
    - to be able to fill the details without firing the validation of the master inputText since the button I clicked was for adding a new record and NOT to commit the master details ...
    I tried to copy some code ..
    maybe it will help.
    I tried partialSubmit, partialTriggers ...
    All attributes don't work. Maybe I did an error in my design page or my organazation of forms.

  • Master /Detail create problem

    hi,everyone:
    Firstly to say sorry for my bad English.
    Now I have a question:
    I'm working in JDeveloper 10.1.3 .The model layer is SessionEJB /Toplink ,and the view layer is JSF. I have a data structure :
    HrUnit : Master
    HrHuman : detail
    HrKnowledge : detail
    the <HrHuman>'s PRIMARYKEY is <ID>,and the <HrKnowledge>'s FOREIGN KEY is <RYID>.
    and I want to make a page to insert a new row on <HrKnowledge>. I drag the <hrKnowledgeCollectionIterator> into the page as <ADF Creation Form>, the page run fine.
    next step, I make <persistEntity> binding to the <submit button> and the parameters(entity) is
    ${bindings.hrKnowledgeCollectionIterator.currentRow.dataProvider}.
    when i run the page , i get a wrong . i get the SQL in the <Unit of work > is
    "INSERT INTO HrUnit ....."
    i create a direct mapping for the detail's foreginkey in toplink,and when i "rebuild" the map ,it gives me a warning. This warning affect my custom code in EJB,it can't work correctly. So i can't use this way in my question.
    Re: Master /Detail  create problem
    I beg your help.
    Thanks. and very very thanks.

    Hi,
    I am not an expert in TopLink, but it appears to me that the TopLink model is causes your problems not ADF. There is a TopLink forum here on OTN that could give you a helping hand on this issue.
    The following tutorial explains the use of TopLink in ADF

    You are probably trying to use old Sync with Firefox newer than version 29,
    and they did make old Sync unusable on fresh installations of newer Firefox.
    You can uninstall that newer Firefox, then install Firefox 29 from here:
    https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/29.0.1/
    Apply your sync key code, then update that installation to current Firefox,
    then migrate to new Sync:

    I've created an application using the Master Detail form.
    I would like to "add" new rows, by inserting a new blank row in my Master Form. Currently it goes to the second page and gives me an input form. I'd like to add the new record directly to the Master Report. Can this be done (since the report is "tecnically" not a form?
    Also, when adding a "Row" to my "Details" form, I get a new "blank" row, but the rest of the tabular form, that was displayed before hitting the "Add Row" button.

    Hi,
    your question is not clear and thus hard to answer.
    I have 'Create form' with Application table from a VO. initially Createform should display the template of VO in Application table to insert new rows only.
    What does the sentence above mean? You create an ADF form from a View Object (this I understand). But what do you mean by +"template of VO in Application table"+ ?
    but when I click on 'Add Row' in Application table..the new entry is not coming
    Thought you were using an ADF form? (see how confusing your question is ?)
    Maybe this helps anyway: If you create new rows in a table, you don't use the Create but CreateInsert operation

  • Creating Master to show only rows for which valid entries exist in Detai

    I have created a Master-Detail Form in my Apex application based off of views to tables in a private remote Database.
    In the Master-Detail Creation Wizard, at the "Link Master and Detail" page, I specified that the defined Primary Key in the Master Column should be equal to the corresponding Foreign Key in the Detail Column.
    My goal is to have my Master Form only display rows for which a valid corresponding entry exists in the Detail Form. Yet, the above setup returns all of the rows from the Master Table, even where the corresponding Detail entry is blank.
    Can you provide some light on what I'm doing wrong, and how I can accomplish what I want to do?

    i have a page where i am displaying data as master table and detail table. both table VOs are based on SQL queries which use bind variables.
