"master is listening"
I'm wondering what this message means. I found it in my appfirewall.log file today. I've never heard of this "master" and am wondering what it is. It looks like it's doing something on localhost, but I don't know what it is. Google turned up something about SQL, but I don't think I was doing anything with SQL.
Firewall[38]: master is listening from 127.0.0.1:25 uid = 0 proto=6
The corresponding message in system.log (generated at the same time) talks about my local user account not being in my sudoers file. Can anyone confirm these things are related? Thanks.

What is "Master is listening..."
Virus protection flagged and quaranteed a suspicious email a couple days ago. No sender. Running a big virus sweep today. Opened scan log.
In appfirewal log found firewall related, repetitive lines of "master is listening from" followed by an ip address.
Ocassionally broken up with lines stating "Stealth Mode attempt to TCP (IP address) from (IP address).
Can anyone tell me what this is/means?
Thanks.hai

What does "Firewall: master is listening from" mean?
For some reason I have a window on my lower screen called console and it is filled with cryptic phrases but mainly "Firewall: master is listening from". What does this mean?
It's the sync and authentication service for Microsoft Office 365; did you download and install Office 2011 through the Microsoft Subscription Service. Office 2011 has been Office365 enabled since SP3.

Log Check please for Hack? port 631 listen
Hello.
Can you please take a look at my logs on terminal and console for a possible hack?
Concerns:
Port 123 and 631
Master listening
fe80::24d:71ff:f.123
fe80::1%lo0.123
and a wild looking var folder way below.
I'm going straight from Modem (not a router) to Ethernet to MBP. The "address" is my dynamic ip but what is the 127.0.0.1?
From console:
Jul 30 17:04:25 XXMacBook-Pro Firewall[60]: master is listening from 0.0.0.0:25 proto=6
From Terminal
$ netstat -an

Recurring postfix/master loop
Hi; I keep seeing the following recurring set of messages in Console:
3/8/15 11:19:10 AM Firewall[74] master is listening from 0.0.0.0:25 proto=6
3/8/15 11:19:10 AM postfix/master[7325] daemon started -- version 2.5.14, configuration /etc/postfix
3/8/15 11:20:10 AM postfix/master[7325] master exit time has arrived
3/8/15 11:20:10 AM Firewall[74] master is listening from 0.0.0.0:25 proto=6

3/8/15 11:22:11 AM postfix/master[7389] daemon started -- version 2.5.14, configuration /etc/postfix
I have looked at other similar discussions dealing with Postfix loops, but I can't find one with a set of messages identical to the above, so I'm not sure if any of the posted solutions will work for this issue.
Can anyone advise me on how to diagnose and fix this? I have to think that it is consuming unnecessary resources and slowing down processing.
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on a mid-2010 MacBook Pro.
Thanks for any help and advice on this.

ComponentListener works in Java 1.5, not in Java 1.6
Hi there,
I'm having an odd problem. I have a GUI application that has a JFrame with a JDesktopPane as its content pane, with several sub-windows (JInternalFrames).
The master JFrame listens for when a JInternalFrame closes and performs an action. Each JInternalFrame executes:
addComponentListener(parent);The JFrame (parent) implements ComponentListener and includes:
public void componentHidden(ComponentEvent e) {
System.out.println(e.getComponent().getClass().getName());
dostuff();
}This works fine with Java 1.5. But if I compile a .jar and run it on Java 1.6, componentHidden is never called.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Peter.Hello there!
I've been experiencing similar problem. As the author of the original post I have JFrame and JDesktopPane on it. I have several JInternalFrames. Internal frame has BorderLayout. I have two JPanels, that I want to add to Internal frame (one at a time). Other JPanel is removed and made invisible by calling setVisible(false). When I am adding JPanel to internal frame and calling method setVisible(true), componnetShown method is called as it should be. When I call method setVisible(false) and remove JPanel, method componentHidden is not called. I did workaround by calling active_panel.getComponentListeners()[0].componentHidden(null) at the time when setVisible(false) is called, but I do not like that. I'd like to know if I am misunderstanding something or if it is a bug. -

Can anyone help me?
Thank you.
Edited by: user10934556 on Mar 25, 2009 3:00 AMSo for anyone else that stumbles across this posting. I had exactly the same issue. The problem for me was that there was a file in */tmp* called *.oracle_master_diskmon* with the wrong permissions. Removing this file allowed crs and more specifically $ORACLE_HOME/diskmon.bin to start correctly.
$ ls -ltr /tmp/.ora*
srwxr-xr-x 1 oracle oinstall 0 Dec 8 15:45 /tmp/.oracle_master_diskmon
No group write permissions on the file.
Hope this helps someone else save 8 hours digging around in the dark. -
when I type "rc.d start mysqld" it displays busy for a while, then fails. At this point it does not generate an error message. I have changed the permissions of /var/lib/mysql recursively to 777. I have also created the mysqld directory in /var/run and given it 777 permissions. I hope I have included all the relevant files.
I have read every suggestion on the internet and gotten nowhere. Please help a noobus out. Thanks in advance.

interactive-timeoutHi,
I seem to have had an issue with mysql as well and it appears to be that I don't have a sock file as I have checked /var/run/mysqld for mysqld.sock and it does not exist so would that be what is stopping mysql server from starting and if so how do I create the sock file ??
Cheers
Quazza
Update - Actually I solved my problem to, it was to do with my log files filling up but that also led to the bigger problem of a failing HD oh what fun anyway got there before any major data loss.

Oooops, I fixed it. Somehow /tmp had wrong permissions..
Hello,
after an upgrade my mysql dameon did not work anymore so I did what https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=889846 says and removed all configs and removed it.

/var/lib/mysql for more information.
You can try to start the mysqld daemon with:
shell> /usr/bin/mysqld --skip-grant &
and use the command line tool /usr/bin/mysql
to connect to the mysql database and look at the grant tables:
shell> /usr/bin/mysql -u root mysql

Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log
gives you a log in /var/lib/mysql that may be helpful.

Cssd does not start in non-RAC environment Thus we can not bring up ASM
Non-RAC environment
ASM version = 11.1.0.7
HP-UX Itanium 11.23
After power outage, CSSD does not start on non-RAC environment
Running as root "/sbin/init.d/init.cssd start" does not start cssd
Oracle support tried "$ASM_HOME/bin/localconfig delete" and "$ASM_HOME/bin/localconfig add"
but it did not start CSS
Oracle support tried "$ASM_HOME/bin/localconfig reset $ASM_HOME"
It started the CSSD and the "crsctl check css" came back with CSS is healthy
But around 1 minute later it rebooted the server and when it came up again CSS does not start.
They checked /etc/inittab and it looked fine.
Before the reboot we saw this message in the /var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log:
Cluster Ready Services completed waiting on dependencies
Again it is a NON-RAC environment. We only need CSSD for ASM. We do not have CRS installed on this server.
Our test system has been down for a week and we did not get the resolution from Oracle support yet !
Any pointers are greately appriciated.
Thanks,

after upgrade i rebooted and ran mysql_upgrade as written on the main page. here's what I got:
mysql_upgrade
Looking for 'mysql' as: mysql
Looking for 'mysqlcheck' as: mysqlcheck
Running 'mysqlcheck' with connection arguments: '--port=3306' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock'
mysqlcheck: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) when trying to connect
FATAL ERROR: Upgrade failed
I myself do not use mysql. It's installed as kde4 dependancy. Do i need to run mysql_upgrade?

Forwarding traps to another port
The Master Agent listens to Port 162 for SNMP traps. Is there a way to forward raw Enterprise traps from the Master Agent to another port on the local host? I have a trap listener application on Port 8162 and need traps forwarded to it.
I was able to use Domain Manager's /etc/opt/SUNWconn/snm.conf file, setting the na.snmp-trap.forward.snmp-traps variable to localhost,8162 but the Domain Manager package will not be installed anymore on my systems.
Thanks,
Warren Lim

Please help, need to use stems for final audio output
Hi, hoping somebody can help. Finished a editing a feature due tomorrow and the sound designer gave me a final stereo mix that's a half hour too short. But he also gave me the "stems" and said I could adjust them as if I knew anything about audio.
Here's the question, I have DX, FX, MX, ME and VO files. Don't know which are redundant. Can output myself if I know which ones to use. Please, if you know, share?
Thanks!Wow, if he knew anything about audio he would have given you the proper mix.
Try just putting each of those in separate tracks.
Make sure the line up by playing the master and listening for an echo. Then just start turning off the tracks until you get what you need. It certainly looks like some will have some internal redundancy. I don't understand all his terminology, but it's apparent that he has mixes that split out the voice tracks so you can drop in foreign language voices later. So the ME and VO sets will duplicate what's found in some of the others. -
