[Materialized View]: SUM(expr) without COUNT(expr)

I have created one MV of type aggregation. when i used DBMS_MVIEW.EXPLAIN_MVIEW i found that "SUM(expr) without
COUNT(expr)".
I have used SUM(exp) function but i dont require count(exp) .
Now due to "SUM(expr) without COUNT(expr)" reason my mv does not gets fast refresh
after any DML on the base master table.
What to do do now?
Is there any alternative for that?
I mean i want to use sum(exp) but not count(exp) and also want fast refresh when any DML applied on base master table.

You have to add count(expr) to your MV . This is a requirment for fast refresh MV.

  • Materialized Views query is ZERO count

    When doing refreshes the Mviews come up as ZERO count...
    any option we can do to prevent this?
    DB is 10.2.0.5
    thanks

    You possibly have another job (scheduled through DBA_JOBS or DBA_SCHEDULER_JOBS or cron or an external scheduler OR initiated by a user or application) that does the refresh (truncate and refresh) between the time you complete a refresh and you query 2 hours later ?
    Possibly the source has no data at the next refresh so the next refresh causes the MV to be Zero count.
    Then, at the third execution, the source has data so the MV now again appears with data ?!

    ORA-00942:     table or view does not exist
    Cause:
    The table or view entered does not exist, a synonym that is not allowed here was used, or a view was referenced where a table is required. Existing user tables and views can be listed by querying the data dictionary. Certain privileges may be required to access the table. If an application returned this message, the table the application tried to access does not exist in the database, or the application does not have access to it.
    Action:
    Check each of the following:
    the spelling of the table or view name.
    that a view is not specified where a table is required.
    that an existing table or view name exists.
    Contact the database administrator if the table needs to be created or if user or application privileges are required to access the table.
    Also, if attempting to access a table or view in another schema, make certain the correct schema is referenced and that access to the object is granted.

  • Create Materialized view Error ORA-22818

    Hi,
    I am creating a materialized view based on a complex query with inline queries, below is a simplified version of the query:
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW CM_FA_PEND_mvu
    TABLESPACE CISTS_TH
    BUILD IMMEDIATE
    REFRESH COMPLETE
    ENABLE QUERY REWRITE
    AS
    SELECT/*+ index (a,XT094S3) index (b,XT232S1) index (c, XM143P0) index (d, XM185S1)*/
    a .fa_id,
    a.fa_type_cd,
    a.fa_status_flg,
    a.disp_grp_cd,
    (SELECT dl.descr
    FROM ci_disp_grp_l dl
    WHERE dl.disp_grp_cd = a.disp_grp_cd AND dl.language_cd = 'ENG')
    disp_grp_cd_descr
    FROM ci_fa a,
    ci_sp_mtr_hist b,
    ci_mtr_config c,
    ci_reg d,
    ci_fapr_faty e
    WHERE a.fa_type_cd = e.fa_type_cd
    AND a.sp_id = b.sp_id(+)
    AND b.mtr_config_id = c.mtr_config_id(+)
    AND c.mtr_id = d.mtr_id(+)
    AND a.fa_status_flg = 'P'
    AND e.fa_type_prof_cd = 'METERED'
    AND ( (b.removal_dttm IS NULL))
    I am getting error "ORA-22818: subquery expressions not allowed here". the problem is in columns "disp_grp_cd_descr" (when I remove this column from the query, the MView is created successfully)
    Is using inline queries as columns a limitation on creating materialized view?
    Is there a workaround ?
    Thanks
    AK

    No version and no exception ... the full text is necessary the number alone insufficient ... to help you much other than recommend you read this:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10810/basicmv.htm#DWHSG8195
    where it says:
    "The SELECT clause in the materialized view creation statement defines the data that the materialized view is to contain. Only a few restrictions limit what can be specified. Any number of tables can be joined together. Besides tables, other elements such as views, inline views (subqueries in the FROM clause of a SELECT statement), subqueries, and materialized views can all be joined or referenced in the SELECT clause. You cannot, however, define a materialized view with a subquery in the SELECT list of the defining query. You can, however, include subqueries elsewhere in the defining query, such as in the WHERE clause."
    Something you could have found in a second or two in the docs at http://tahiti.oracle.com by searching for "Materialized Views Restrictions"
    But without your version and the actual error message this may not apply.

  • Cannot create Materialized View using PL/SQL procedure

    Hello,
    I have a question related to Materialized View creation.
    I have a stored procedure that creates materialized view. When trying to run this procedure I get insufficient privileges error: ORA-01031.
    When I run content of this procedure as anonymous PL/SQL block them materialized view is created without any complications.
    Can you please advice me on that topic?
    Is it even possible to create materialized view in stored procedure as I haven't found an info on it.
    Thanks
    Petr

    Hi chudapet,
    Whenever you do operation in procedure you need to have direct grants and not via a role.
    Most probably the grant to create materialized view is available via a role to your user.
    Assign direct grant to the user:
    grant create materialized view to scott;
    {code}

    What your topic has to do with Community Feedback and Suggestions???
    Speaking about your question - how about reading oracle documentation?
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14223/basicmv.htm#i1007880
    Excerpt:
    For fast refresh to be possible, the SELECT list must contain all of the GROUP BY columns (if present), and there must be a COUNT(*) and a COUNT(column) on any aggregated columns.
    So there isn't any alternative.

  • How to speed up fast refresh of materialized view without primary key

    Thought I'd share this info, as I couldn't find anything on here to help me diagnose the issue:
    I had a materialized view that was taking longer to perform a fast refresh than it took to perform a complete refresh. My mview had no primary key, as the base table had no primary key.
    I created a trace file for the session and saw references to a column M_ROW$$ in my mview. Nowhere in the data dictionary could I find a reference to the m_row$$ column in my mview, but apparently it exists and is created automatically. After creating the index below, the fast refresh took 6 minutes to add 500k rows to the materialized view. (versus 4+ hours without the index) When I looked in the trace file, I noticed that for each row in the mview log, it first tries to update the mview with an UPDATE statement, then it performs an insert of the new data. Seems like it should be able to determine whether to perform an update or insert based on the DMLTYPE$$ column of the mview log. What was killing my performance was the UPDATE phase. Since I had no primary key on the mview, and no index on the m_row$$ column, the UPDATE phase was performing a full table scan of my mview for every row in the mview log. I was expecting it to be smart enough to only perform inserts, as the only transactions against the base table were inserts.
    In summary: If you have a materialized view without a primary key, create an index on the m_row$$ column of the mview, even though no such column displays in the data dictionary.
    ex:
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW mv_minidrr ...
    CREATE INDEX pk_mv_minidrr ON mv_minidrr(m_row$$) ...

    Well, there indeed is a column called M_ROW$$
    Your MLOG$_EMP is nothing but the materialized view log on the base table.
    SQL> create  materialized view log on emp with rowid ;
    Materialized view log created.
    SQL> create materialized view emp_mview refresh fast on demand with rowid as select * from emp ;
    Materialized view created.
    SQL> desc mlog$_emp
    Name                                                  Null?    Type
    M_ROW$$                                                        VARCHAR2(255)
    SNAPTIME$$                                                     DATE
    DMLTYPE$$                                                      VARCHAR2(1)
    OLD_NEW$$                                                      VARCHAR2(1)
    CHANGE_VECTOR$$                                                RAW(255)
    SQL> select table_name, column_name from user_tab_columns where column_name = 'M_ROW$$' ;
    TABLE_NAME                     COLUMN_NAME
    MLOG$_EMP                      M_ROW$$
    1 row selected.

  • Can I use OLAP kind of functionality  without installing OLAP ( using materialized views etc)

    Hi,
    Can OLAP cube be implemented without having ORACLE OLAP installed? As per my understanding, cubes are something which keeps aggregate data. So can I just use materialized view functionality ( which is already there in Oracle)?
    Which other Oracle object can I use without  installing ORACLE OLAP ( Dimension etc?)
    Thanks a lot.
    Nitin

    If you mean by implementing an OLAP cube, you mean setting up reports for various summary level data analysis, it is possible to query materialized views to get the same data in some cases.   A position paper that describes the advantages of the OLAP Cube v. among other things standard materialized views may be found at this URL: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/olap/olap-wp-12c-1896136.pdf?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen
    I also would recommend posting this question on the general database forum (General Database Discussions) as well.
    Hope this helps,

  • Materialized view with aggregates doing a fast refresh

    why is that i need to have count(*),count(<expressions used>) in my Materialized view Query with Aggregates?
    say mat view query is:
    select deptno,sum(sal) from emp,dept where emp.deptno,dept.deptno group by dname.cant do a fast refresh.
    BUT
    select deptno,sum(sal),count(*),count(sal) from emp,dept where emp.deptno,dept.deptno group by dname.Does a fast refresh.Why?
    Also its mentioned in manuals that count(*) and count(expr) is needed but it doesnt explain why.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the correction.I just wanted to simulate the query and it was a typing mistake.sorry for that.
    My query working fine with count(). If i understand it correctly it is to determine whether there should be an update or delete to MV in case of say delete on master table.that is, count is decremented on delete and if it becomes 0 then we need to delete that aggregated row from the MV,else it need to be updated even in case of delete.
    But this answers why count() is needed for coulmns in group by clause.
    Dont really see a need to have count() in case i m updating the measures as materilized view logs should take care of it.

  • Materialized view not fast refreshable

    I need to calculate a moving total in a materialized view - that is, calculate subtotal for rows starting at current row up to the first row.

  • Materialized view is not taking the Index

    Hi Friends,
      I have a materialized View for my Sales Details.  I created a view on the Materialized View and using in my report. The Performance is very slow. After little research,
    I found that the indexes are not used when the MV is accessed in the SQL.  I tried explain plan for a very simple query on the view to prove that.
    Here is my simple query.
    select month_num ,sum(qty) from v_mv_sales_table
    where month_num=201301
    by month_num;
    When I checked for count() it is considering the index and performance is good.
    select month_num ,count(*) from v_mv_sales_table
    where month_num=201301
    by month_num;
           Then I tried using hint for forcing the index. That time also it is working only for count not for SUM.
    select   /* +INDEX(tr, IDX2_MV_SALES_TABLE) */  month_num,count(*)
    v_mv_sales_table tr
    month_num=201301
    by month_num;
    Is there any way , I can force my sql to use the index on the month_num column?.
    I have a question about using hint to force the sql.
    My Question is  I have indexes on my Materialized View. But I am using the hint on my view based on the Mat View.
    Will it be okay to use like that?.
    You may ask why I am using View instead of using Mat View directly. At later stage we are planning to apply some user level restrictions to the data
    by linking the view to some other tables/view. So I am forced to use the View instead of MV.
    Any ideas or suggestions will be good
    Thanks in advance,

  • Need help on tuning materialized view refresh

    Hi All,
    I am working on materialized view refresh tuning.Initially it was complete refresh and used to take more than 90 mins to complete.
    I changed it to fast refresh now it is completing fast. Now i have partitioned the base tables gl_balances and gl_code_combinations of column code_combination_id and created a local index on column code_combination_id then i am trying to partition the materialized on the same column to take advantage of partition change tracking.
    Size of gl_balances base tables is 40Gb and all others tables sizes are small. In where clause there all the 4 tables are mapped. If i will create the partition only on code_combination_id will i the materialized will become the candidate for partition change tracking. As i know it will be applicable for PCT. I need expert advice on this.
    While doing a fast refresh. the refresh takes less time. when there is a change in gl_balances , gl_code_combinations or gl_periods it completes in 20-30 mins. When there is a change in gl_set_of_books tables. It creates a problem here.DEL query takes more than 48 hours to complete.

    ********************************************************************************GL_SETS_OF_BOOKS has only 6 rows. I know there is complete refresh as a option which will again take more than 90 mins.
    I want to do the fast refresh. Tables rows details below.
    SQL> select count(*) from gl.gl_code_combinations21;
    COUNT(*)

    SQL> select count(*) from gl.GL_PERIODS;

    SQL> select count(*) from gl.gl_sets_of_books;
    COUNT(*)
    6gl_sets_of_books has less rows. Whenever there is a change then it mapped to huge rows hence during materialized view has delete huge number of rows.
    select count(*) from apps.BAL_PART group by C3;
    C3 is the rowid which is present in create materialized statement.
    COUNT(*)
    292927011
    210215
    69330
    184406971
    Is there any way to improve the plan. As i created a partition on code_combination_id and local index on code_combination_id which will not help in set_of_books_id case. I dont PCT will help here or not. Is it possible to use PCT refresh by equipartitioning only one column in where clause.
    Please assist me in improving refresh of materialized view using fast refresh.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Creating a Materialized View from different agregate queries

    I want to create a materialized view. The problem is that doing so can get sticky. The view should have one row, with each column representing the return of an aggregate function on the base table. Here is a query that returns this kind of result:
    select
         (select count(rowid) from pasta) "PASTA_ROWS",
         (select count(salt) from pasta where salt='F') "SALT_IS_FEMALE_ROWS"
    from dual;
    You can see that by selecting the subqueries from dual, I get the return to be in seperate columns. The problem is that when I try creating a Materialized view, I get an error.
    ERROR at line 8:
    ORA-22818: subquery expressions not allowed here
    So, is there a simple SQL query that will return the values I am asking for, in seperate columns, but will not make the materialized view produce an error?
    Thanks,
    Edward
    For your reference, here is a describe of the pasta table:
    SQL> desc pasta
    Name Null? Type
    CHEESE NUMBER(4)
    TOMATO VARCHAR2(20)
    SALT VARCHAR2(1)
    OREGANO VARCHAR2(20)
    OLIVE_OIL VARCHAR2(40)

    Edward:
    Something like this should work:
    SELECT COUNT(*) PASTA_ROWS,
           SUM(DECODE(salt,'F',1,0)) SALT_IS_FEMALE_ROWS
    FROM pastaTTFN

    Hi,
    This is a documented restriction on MVs. You cannot have a scalar express (i.e a select statement) in the select list.
    You can get round this by joining your select count(grade).. expression in as an inline view in your FROM clause. Or you can create a normal view without the scalar expression, create your MV as a select from this view, then re-define your view to contain the query you want.
    Hope that helps,
    Rod West
