Mathematical "NOT" symbol automatically inserted before symbol

I appear to regularly get a mathematical "NOT" ￢ symbol inserted in front of my typed copyright symbol. I use the keyboard shortcut alt-G, which inserts the copyright symbol perfectly as I need enter it, but when I view it somewhere down the line, say in metadata, or in PS file info, or Aperture's Web Galleries, to name a few, there it is! ￢©
Any ideas why this happens, and more importantly, how I stop it?

As I say, it only resurfaces further down the line. I can type and see it OK into the respective input fields and assume everything is OK. Then one day I'll access the file, look-up to check the metadata is up to date, and boom! it's there. Up until now I've not thought too hard about it and just put up with it, or just gone in and backspaced over it, but I shudder to think how long it would take me to trawl every one for completeness. Besides, prevention is better than cure...

Automatic insertion of symbols
I'm having the toughest time figuring out how to automatically insert symbols. First of all, the one I like doesn't appear to be available within Palatino font. Next, if I want it to appear larger than the font size, do I have to increase it manually each time? I'm trying to find one cute floral symbol that can be inserted automatically by Auto-Correction feature, but in a larger font than my text size. Anyone?

I think it will be very difficult to find a simple way of inserting it in Times Roman text. The symbol (F0CC) is in the so called "Private Use" area of unicode, which basically means that the font designers are free to do anything without any rules or restrictions.
As soon as you switch font, the symbol will change to something different. You would have to find a simple way to insert both character and font information at the same time, and I think you are out of luck there.
Besides, even if you succeed in inserting it, if you send the document to someone else, and that person does not have the font, it will look different.
I think an image is the most proper solution here, unless you settle for a character that is outside the Private Use Area, like ↔, ∰, or ⊰---⊱. -
Text symbol for automatic insertion of file and page data
In Visio I have a footer on my wireframe pages that includes text symbols referencing data about the file (document name, last edited) and also the number of the page. These symbols automatically update as the data changes. I can do something similar in InDesign and Word.
I cannot seem to find a way to do this in Fireworks. Perhaps I just don't know what the feature is called?
--JimApologies, but you weren't particularly clear on the problems you were having in your prior post, so I was just making sure you actually found the shapes.
You didn't ask about customizing the shapes either. If you had, we might have been able to save you the time. Auto shapes have very specific editable on-canvas features. The rest is controlled under the hood by JavaScript. It's quite likely that - had you opened the JS file - you could have made some of those edits. That's the cool thing about these shapes. You CAN change things.
I don't pretend to be a JS guru, but when I opened the JSF file, I was able to find the variables for changing font color, size, fill color and whether the text automatically expands to fill the box, in few minutes.
On the canvas, I can use the Subselection tool to change the width of the box and its fill, as well as the size of the text block. I can use the customize command for the shape itself to place each piece of information on a separate line.Will you get a warning message when you resize the rectangle? Yes, because you are altering the base parameters of an object controlled by JS. Does it have a negative impact on the shape? No.
As for autonumbering of Pages, I isaid that this is an automatic feature in FW. You have no control over it in the current version and as I said, I do not beleive the numbering is carried over to a PDF. Beside each page name you will see a 2 digit number - that is what I was referring to.
If you do not manually name your pages, FW will also name them onthe sequence in which they were created, Page 1, Page 2 etc. FW will NOT change that name if you change the order of the pages; it sill only update the sequence number.
As you said yourself, you are new to Fireworks. Don't throw in the towel because of one negative experience, which could have been resolved with more knowledge of the software, or additional questions in the forum. And remember that Fireworks is not just a wireframing tool; it is also a design tool.

Problem Inserting Euro Symbol and few others
We are using java application with oracle 8.1.6 as the db with the charset as WE8ISO8859P15. ALl the forms are using multipart request. We cannot do away without that. When trying to insert euro symbol and few other western european characters, they get converted to something else before getting stored in the db and so we are not able to display them properly on retrieval.
Can anyone please help in this direction?Just set the nls_charset.zip in classpath and then try to insert into db.I think it might not be a problem with database.(note. if u insert euro character it will be reside in db, as some format but u retrive it and stream it thru servlet it will be displayed in the browser properly, if u write using printwriter then it might give "?" / "O" in browser. refer http://www.inter-locale.com/faq/blacksquares.jsp).

Best way to insert Degree symbol?

I have an inspection form set up for restaurant/health inspectors. Often times during an inspection they need to enter temperatures of food and like to use the degree symbol. They're running this form on a convertible tablet pc, so a normal keyboard is not available to them in tablet mode and when in laptop mode using the combination of ALT+0176 that's still a PITA because the keyboard doesn't have full number pad and the people using this form aren't the most computer literate people out there to be able to activate the Function keys to endable number pad keys and then enter an ASCII code many times during an inspection.
I was looking for suggestion on how to inforporate something into the form to assist in entering the degree symbol in any text field they are in at the position of the cursor.
The idea's I've though of are:
1.) A command button that inserts the symbol, but I'm afraid clicking the button would lose focus of the destination field and there'd need to be a lot of scripting to remember which field was the last one they were in to insert it in the correct one.
2.) A Button or On Load event which somehow inserts the degree symbol into the Windows clipboard, but during the course of an inspection they might copy and paste something else thus clearing it out.
3.) Some kind of auto-replace of text. Not sure if that's possible in an adobe form. E.g. if they type 'deg.' have the form auto replace it to '°'.
4.) A special key press. Not sure if Adobe can listen to a special key sequence not used by Adobe and Windows, say CTRL + D which when pressed inserts a degree symbol in the current location.
5.) Any way to place a special icon on Adobe's tool bar to insert the degree symbol at the currently location?
Those were some ideas I'm thinking of. Many are probably dead ends. If you had this problem, how would you approach it?

1.) That's running off of an 'On Exit' even which inserts the ºF at the end of the text. In some cases that would work, but it others it would not work, like in this text field example of real data: "White fish was a 51°F. *Corrected* Witnessed manager throw away fish."
With your proposed java, that would put the °F at the end of the line when it needs to be in the middle of the line.
2.) Many types of written text can be put in these fields. Not every scenario would involve a temperature, so having it pop up your popupmenu might get in their way when it is not needed.
What I'm thinking needs to be done is to somehow insert the °F exactly wherever the cursor is at the time when it is triggered to do so (how to trigger it?).
OR
On an On Exit event searcingh for and replacing the text they have entered. Perhaps replace ' deg' with '°F' so that if they type:
"White fish was a 51 deg. *Corrected* Witnessed manager throw away fish."
When the On Exit fires it replace deg with °F so that the text field now reads:
"White fish was a 51°F. *Corrected* Witnessed manager throw away fish." -
Insert IPA symbols into Word document
Hi,
Does anyone know what is required to insert IPA symbols into a Word (v. X) document. The type of symbols I'm looking for can be found here, but I can't get them into my Word documents. I'm afraid I'm missing some special font or symbol library, but I have no idea which ones. Does anyone know what I might need to get symbols into my documents? Thanks very much.

There is nothing you can do to make this work with WordX, which is not compatible with Unicode IPA. Getting Word2004 will not help. If your co-workers only have WordX, then you have to also use WordX yourself and download the special non-Unicode fonts from SIL. WordX and Word2004 use two different standards for what codes generate what symbols. And the standard used by WordX is obsolete, or almost so. -

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports

There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. How do I delete photos and photo albums from my iPhone 4? The instructions given do not work. No "delete" symbol appears next to the album name when I press "Edit," and no trash can icon for me to click appears below most of the individual photos in the albums the computer just loaded on my new iPhone 4. When I synced the new phone the computer added these photo albums without permission from me. They are now taking up about 3 GB of memory on my phone. I would like very much to get rid of these photos from the phone. How do I do this?
To delete photos from your device
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
Click Apply. -
When i try to download an update from the appstore the dropdown menju automatically inserts my apple id (which is wrong). It's in gray and will not allow me to type in the correct id. How do i stop the auto insert so that i can enter the correct id?
the original apple id was entered incorrectly. Apple says it must be a email address. My email address is correct but the letter ( t ) somehow got added to the (.com) so that when i try to enter my id it is automaticly loaded with the email address the ends ( .comt ) . According to Apple this is not a "legal" email id. But it appears on my dropdown in gray and i cannot alter it or delete it, thus preventing me from downloading software updates.

Whenever I insert a symbol (from Webdings, etc.) as a bullet or just an insert, it looks fine on my copy, however, when I send the document to someone else they tell me it shows up as a weird looking character, like a little number inside a circle. It has happened with several symbols I've used. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks!

Webdings and wingdings are non-standardized in terms of how they should be encoded and thus subject to the kind of problem you have encountered. Best to use dingbats or other symbols found in the non-private-use ranges of Unicode in your Character Viewer. -
Can not execute code within a symbol

The problem with the code is that you are trying to access a symbol "power" from symbol "menu", but "power" symbol is not there inside the "menu" symbol. The "power" symbol is on the stage.
So, if you replace the code
sym.getSymbol('power').play('in');
with
sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("power").play("in"); //We are accessing the "power" symbol from stage symbol
you will resolve the issue.

I have an ipad3 and wireless keyboard but for the life on me can not type a pound (GBP) symbol - can anyone help?
I would think you'd have to change the language to British English to get the pound sign. THat or turn off your wireless keyboard and get the pound sign from the on screen keyboard, then turn your wireless board back on.
