Maven support

JDeveloper Team,
First of all, congratulations for putting out a new release with significant improvements in features. This is great and I am excited to try out all the new stuff. Looking at the release notes and feature list, I noticed that support for maven is still not available in JDeveloper. While I am aware that there exists a maven plugin, it is very limited in functionality. I have been using it for a while and the major issue is that we need to recreate JDeveloper project after adding a new dependency. Also, it does not have support for downloading sources and configuring it automatically. It's really a pain to do it manually for each project. I am aware of the fact that JDeveloper team is current working on a new maven plugin as mentioned elsewhere in the forum. Is this plugin available for this release? if not, could you please let us know when we can expect this? I have been struggling for over 4 years without adequate support for maven in JDeveloper and I am sure there are many others who face a similar situation. My sincere and humble request for JDeveloper team is to consider this a high priority if possible and make it available for JDeveloper lovers.
Thank you,
Bala Raman.

Shay,
Thank you so much for your response. This is great news and I am looking forward towards the next release.
Cheers,
Bala Raman.

  • Maven support in 11.1.1.2 / repository question

    Oracle team,
    Great job on 11.1.1.2, nice to see the developer preview of Maven support. I am still in the process of downloading it; while it's coming down, I thought I'd post a question..
    I really like Maven, and I'd like to use it for ADF projects. With what looks like nice basic Maven support in JDev, there is only one thing that holds me back at the moment, and that is having the Oracle ADF libraries in a repository. Yes, it's quite easy for me to put them in my own repository, and that is something I'd like to move forward with. However, in order to make that process more resilient, it would be nice if Oracle published a recommended structure for the artifact names; in that way, I could be more or less sure that I won't have to re-do everything in the future. I've even considered (if Oracle does publish a recommended taxonomy) writing an extension that would snarf all of the JDeveloper library definitions and publish them to a repository, and furthermore to change the local library definitions to point to my local Maven copy.
    Thoughts on this?
    John

    Muhammed,
    I'm not clear on your question, but here is an example. We have a project that uses ADF BC4J.
    Here is a example of a dependency specification from the project pom:
    <dependency>
    <groupId>com.oracle.jdeveloper.library</groupId>
    <artifactId>BC4J_Runtime</artifactId>
    <version>${jdev.release}</version>
    <type>pom</type>

    Note that the top level is a pom that relates to a JDeveloper Library, which is then composed of JARs. The intention was to maintain as close to a one to one mapping between the JDeveloper definitions and the maven artifacts. So, JDeveloper Libraries become maven poms.

  • Maven Support for JE, testers needed!

    Hello Berkeley DB Java Edition Fans and Developers!
    In an effort to better support our developers we've setup what we hope is a functional Maven repository, but we'd like you to test it and let us know if we've been successful or not. I've tried to test it, but to be perfectly honest I'm not a Maven expert. If we've done anything in a non-standard or imperfect manner please speak up and let me know so that I can fix things now.
    Here is the structure, the ever important POM file is found at:
    http://download.oracle.com/maven/com/sleepycat/je/<release>/je-<release>.pom
    e.g.
    http://download.oracle.com/maven/com/sleepycat/je/3.2.76/je-3.2.76.pom
    In that directory you will find:
    je-<release>.pom
    je-<release>.pom.md5
    je-<release>.pom.sha1
    je-<release>.jar
    je-<release>.jar.md5
    je-<release>.jar.sha1
    sources.jar
    sources.jar.md5
    sources.jar.sha1
    Also, I've uploaded a copy of each release's documentation tree to:
    http://download.oracle.com/berkeley-db/docs/je/<release>/
    e.g.
    http://download.oracle.com/berkeley-db/docs/je/3.2.76/
    Finally, the Sleepycat Public (open source) license file for JE is located at:
    http://download.oracle.com/maven/com/sleepycat/je/license.txt
    I believe that if you put the following into your Ant build.xml file it will pick up the JE .jar file using Maven, let me know if this is wrong:
      <!-- Use Maven to fetch Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition -->
      <path id="maven-ant-tasks.classpath" path="lib/maven-ant-tasks-2.0.9.jar" />
      <typedef resource="org/apache/maven/artifact/ant/antlib.xml" uri="urn:maven-artifact-ant" classpathref="maven-ant-tasks.classpath" />
      <artifact:remoteRepository id="berkeleydb-je.repository" url="http://ossus.com/maven" />
      <artifact:dependencies pathId="dependency.classpath">
        <remoteRepository refid="berkeleydb-je.repository" />
        <dependency groupId="com.sleepycat" artifactId="je" version="3.2.76"/>
      </artifact:dependencies>
    --------------------------------And here is an example project POM file for those who use Maven to build their applications. Let me know if this is correct and usable or if I've made mistakes or there are ways to improve it as well.

    --------------------------------If one or more Maven user could give this a try it would greatly help me out.
    Questions I have are:
    1. Did I put the source code up in the proper place/package/name/etc?
    2. Did I leave anything out of the POM?
    3. Did I put too much into the POM
    4. Is there some other file I need to put somewhere that tells people what the latest version is of JE (and is that something that indicates the latest version for major releases, as in the latest version of the 2.x series and then also the latest version of the 3.x series, etc.)?
    5. Does this work? :)
    Thanks in advance for your help,

    Update: I changed our POM to refer to the new version, 3.3.62, and again the download, build and test was successful. So, upgrading JE versions required just a few keystrokes.
    FYI, you've still got a license typo, "Sleepcyat", in both the 3.2.76 and 3.3.62 POMs.
    Also, though it seems harmless, and only happens when using the m2eclipse inside-Eclipse maven build, I'm still getting the following warning on builds:
    [WARN] POM for 'com.sleepycat:je:pom:3.3.62:compile' is invalid. It will be ignored for artifact resolution. Reason: Parse error reading POM. Reason: Unrecognised tag: 'license' (position: START_TAG seen ...</organization>\n\n <license>... @15:12)
    I don't know enough about Maven to know if there's a 'higher-level' way to indicate the latest version overall, or latest within a version-prefix. I suspect people should make that determination from prose elsewhere. They might also try to determine other releasesby browsing the containing directory -- ie: http://download.oracle.com/maven/com/sleepycat/je/ -- though I see that doesn't work, only the direct URLs to the POMs and other resources answer.
    Your 'sources' URLs in both POMs trigger a JAR download as I would expect, but the Javadoc URLs both generate 404s. (I'm not sure if any automated tools depend on these delivering content, as opposed to the values just being there for human reference.)
    HTH -- though the main message is "it's working the way I'd expect!"

  • Incorporating Crystal Reports for Eclipse into a Maven build

    Is there a way to support or work around Maven dependencies for Crystal Reports?
    I'm working on a project in MyEclipse 8.5 and building it into an ear file using the integrated Maven support.
    We just recently started incorporating Crystal Reports into our project, and I have all the jar files in the WebINF\lib folder and the crystalreportviewers folder in the project as well and when I run the reports and viewers from jsp pages it works fine because Maven doesn't actually compile those. The problem is that I need to run scheduled reports in the background without ever showing anything to the user but whenever I try to access crystal reports directly in my java servlet classes my import line
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.document.*;
    throws the following error:
    [ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:2.0.2:compile (default-compile) on project webui: Compilation failure: Compilation failure:
    C:\...SchedulingServlet.java:[17,0]package com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.document does not exist
    Even if I'm not doing anything with it.
    I'm still new to Maven, jsp, and Crystal Reports, so any suggestions would be awesome.

    I get that error without even having any .prt files in the project.
    having the import statement alone throws that error

  • Deploying applications to glassfish using Maven.

    Hello,
    I am both a glassfish and maven newbie.
    I want to know if there's away to automatically deploy my .war in glassfish via the .pom file.
    (My current solution: an ant script to copy my target .war to glassfish/domains/domain1/autodeploy is not the best;)
    Thanks,

    You aren't forced to use Maven's project structure actually.
    When I first tried Maven (after years of using Ant) I was annoyed by the perception that I must conform to Maven. However, the default location for such things as the ${project.build.outputDirectory} are just that - defaults for those who favour convention over configuration. You can of course override them (as I still do for the artifact output directory) and even do so in a super pom for al your projects so they can be automatically inherited.
    Maven is more than just a dependency management tool though - it is a build sequencer. This perhaps more powerful if a more subtle aspect to appreciate. Once you devote a small amount of time to learn how to get the best out of Maven (read Better Builds With Maven as a good starting point) you will not want to go back to Ant - I haven't yet.
    As far as finding JARs is concerned this is just as time consuming with Maven as with any other means of meeting library dependencies. I find two things useful here: one is iGoogle and a plugin for it called "javacio.us search"; the other is using a local proxy such as Nexus which also indexes the repository. Combined with an IDE such as IDEA or Eclipse which have good Maven support including artifact autocompletion this makes locating the right versions of artifacts quite easy.Apache Archiva is another very good Maven proxy. As for finding libraries, I just bang "<dependency name> maven ibiblio" into Google, and let it do the heavy lifting. Never failed me yet. What is annoying is when groupIds change between versions. • Adobe air - adt.jar + maven issues

    Hello,
    Did the adt.jar license changed?  I notice it does include some GPL  code inside it, like JFlex, so I wonder if the adt.jar sources is  available anywhere....
    I asks because the latest flex SDK  (http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/download?build=4.5.0.17689&pkgtype=1) does completely break maven support provided by flexmojos and there is no way to get it working without recompiling adt.jar
    The same problem affect AIR SDK 2.5.
    Thanks,

    Hi Davek,
    In your platform options file, for the frameworks you need to link to weakly, you may try using -weak_framework linker option. eg.
    <option>-weak_framework Twitter</option>
    Using -framework will always link to the framework strongly, despite the setting used while compiling the native library in XCode.
    In general, in this file, you can use the linker options in the way they are provided to ld command.
    Hope this helps.

    Now when i create a Maven POM project from New--> Gallary-->Maven POM for Project, it create a POM file but it does not have dependencies. See POM generated at last.
    I can see the dependencies in Maven setting but not generated automatically in POM. Does i need add it manually ? Maven support in JDev 11.1.1.5 is not matured like in 11.1.2

    Maven dependencies are those required by an application and are based on the type of the application. Not all the JARs from the WebLogic classpath would get added as Maven dependencies as the dependencies get packaged with the application. When a POM is created with Maven POM project from New--> Gallary-->Maven POM for Project the type of the application is not asked for.

    Hello,
    Anyone know of an easy approach to getting a JavaFX maven project working in Netbeans ?
    I've got JavaFX+Maven working and JavaFX+Netbeans ... but not all three together...
    Any tips/pointers apprectiated...
    Given the Netbeans has fantastic JavaFX and Maven support - surely they could make both work together ?

    I hope it's ok if I reuse this thread since I have the same question. I'm using FEST's JavaFX Maven plugin. I'll happily take any solution anyone can offer, but, ideally, I'd like to see some official support for Maven:

  • Building the ADF 11g project with ANT or MAVEN

    I want to automate the build process of my project using ant or maven. Is there already some build scripts for ant / maven. which can compile and package it using the structure which JDeveloper follows?

    Anthony,
    You probably can. However, since I wrote the original article, I have changed my way of thinking on this; at the time I wrote the article, ojdeploy was not working - now it is. Installing JDev on a build machine takes a bit of space, but it's not a big deal; it doesn't require a license or anything. If I were doing this today, there is no way I would consider anything but ojdeploy for doing the build - it guarantees that what I set up in JDev is what gets built. The one thing that could make me change my mind is if and when JDeveloper gets fully-baked Maven support, including keeping a POM in synch with any libraries added to a project, but that's neither here today nor a certainty, since Oracle hasn't made any specific announcements that I am aware of about the direction of Maven support in JDev.
    We did have a discussion about this on the [url http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology/browse_thread/thread/52f7aab00d201b4c/bec6e076a7c82520?lnk=gst&q=ojdeploy#bec6e076a7c82520]ADF Enterprise Methodology Group a while back, and I recall quite a discussion in the forums as well about ojdeploy vs ANT/Maven. I used to be more of a "purist" mindset (i.e. don't make me install an IDE on the build server), but if you like, don't think of it as an IDE in this function - it doesn't require a user to operate it, it's just another build tool that you'd install on the server. That build tool can be integrated with ANT using the ojdeploy tasks.

  • Latest concerning Maven, JDeveloper and ADF...?

    I see various resources on how to Maven and JDeveloper working together, which really isn't an issue if you think about it (a POM file does the job as a JPR file in terms of building). What I really would like to see is how to get Maven builds working well for ADF 11g projects! I can see various ways to get this 'working' but what I really would like to know is what the latest word is on this to see how others are currently doing this.

    1). if you like :D
    3). not really
    Option 1 is the only real option at the moment.
    Maven support in 11.1.1.2 / repository question may have some information that is interesting for you.

  • Maven documentation contains mistakes

    Documentation about Maven support in conjunction with OEPE contains mistakes and is error prune [1].
    Documentation tells to sync Maven plugins which are compatible with ADF 12.1.3 but the Maven archetype delivered withe OEPE 12.1.3.4 and 12.1.3.5 ist 12.1.2. If you create a project from archetype on command line the project will throw a lot of errors because it does not find the promoted artifacts:
    <dependency>
      <groupId>com.oracle.adf.library</groupId>
      <artifactId>JSP-Runtime</artifactId>
      <version>12.1.2-0-0</version>
      <type>pom</type>
      <scope>provided</scope>
    </dependency>
    So either you have to manipulate the archetype before you install it in your promoted repository or you have to use a property in your generated pom.xml to match the synced ADF 12.1.3 version:
    <properties>
    <adf.archetype.version>12.1.3-0-0</adf.archetype.version>
    </properties>
    <dependency>
      <groupId>com.oracle.adf.library</groupId>
      <artifactId>JSP-Runtime</artifactId>
      <versio>${adf.archetype.version}</version>
      <type>pom</type>
      <scope>provided</scope>
    </dependency>
    Maybe OEPE developers should check documentation and delivered archetype.

  • Eclipse maven multi module project issues

    Most developers I know moved on to IntelliJ for just one reason: better support for development and reload/hot deployment of multi module maven projects and its resources. All of these problems keep happening in the case of nested/hierarchical multi module maven projects which is >90% of maven use cases:
    1. Every time a multi module project is imported, sometimes there are both referenced libraries and maven dependencies in some projects. We have to manually remove referenced libraries from appearing. How can stop this from happening?
    2. Changes made to resource updates are not always refreshed and require full clean, using eclipse:clean eclipse:eclipse commands and even a maven project refresh using Alt+F5? Why should we do this and not let Eclipse figure out what's wrong? Also, Eclipse updates to dependency projects are slow when fixing any compile time issues from dependencies.
    3. Maven sometimes import dependency projects and its resources into its classpath and sometimes imports final artifact or jar from local repository as its dependency. This is a major problem just because jars excludes specific resources, say, from its src/main/resources. Is there a way in Maven to ask it to use resources of final artifact or exclude files that are not part of the its dependency packaging, typically excluded in the the dependent pom by <exclude>resource... without manually updating classpath?
    4. When deploying a multi module project to an Eclipse Tomcat container, resources are not deployed randomly. Say a dependency src/main/resources has dep1-config.xml and you want to specify a custom file dep1-config.xml runtime, there is currently no way to say override from the main project being deployed or from custom folders added to classpath of project being deployed. Guess this is a problem with the container classloader and not really a maven issue.
    5. There isn't a single multi module project deployment tutorial with best practices of managing classpath resources anywhere.
    How hard is it to make a stable maven support just like IntelliJ?

    Please do not use the maven-eclipse-plugin (mvn.eclipse:eclipse) and m2e simultaneously, they're not very compatible. Instead, when issues happen, clean your project in the m2e way, using the "Maven > Update configuration" context menus on your project(s).

    CONTEXT
    I’ve been working my project with Jdev11.1.1.1, when I migrate to JDev 11.1.1.2. I realized that my project didn’t compile successfully as before besides I couldn’t see the design view in a WYSIWYG mode on my JSF pages.
    I had installed (initially) in C:\oracle\Middleware Jdev 11.1.1.1 with WLS 10.3 (default in Installer)
    A couple days ago I realized about the new Jdev release JDev 11.1.1.2 and I decided to migrate because of the IDE improvements such as Bugs Solutions, Maven support, code templates, etc).
    The new version seemed to be non-compatible with WLS 10.3 because I couldn’t mount it in the same middleware so I installed the new one in C:\oracle\Middleware11g2, JDev 11.1.1.2 with WLS 10.3.1 (default in Installer).
    EXAMPLE
    I have created a new sample Project named JDev112App, it only has 1 java class, 1 ADF template and 1 JSPx to show the errors and differences between releases of the IDE… However, I also have added the screenshots of the Project in each IDE, also I have included a screenshot of my real project (Business App).
    NOTE. Business APP project is under subversion SVN and the migration was done successfully when JDEv 11.1.1.2 opened it (it migrated automatically).
    What should I do?? .. thanks

    I think that the problem could be preferences/settings migration from Jdev 11.1.1.1.0 to JDev 11.1.1.2.0, because I migrated not only the application but also the JDev preferences ( "Documents&Settings...Jdeveloper..." ).
    I have installed in a new machine without previous version of Jdev the new release JDev 11.1.1.2.0 and when I deploy my test application with errors ( showed in this post ), it works fine and also the design view is correct.
    I am not SURE but I think the bug or problem could be also the preference/settings migration between JdeveloperS.
    Can anybody tell me the real reason?? How can I fix it ... I don’t want to import each of my settings manually in JDev 11.1.1.2.0 ( I mean templates, javadocs settings, connections, repositories, etc).
    Thanks in advance for your help,

  • Weblogic 10 Deployment issues

    Hi,
    I am trying to use weblogic ant task - Wldeploy to automate the deployment. Unfortuantely deployment fails, I did some research and discovered that WLdeploy class is not present in weblogic.jar(..Bea\wlserver_10.0\server\lib). I also have version 9.2 installed on my box and it has this calss. Just wondering where can I find WLDeploy class in version 10 ?. Also, is there any maven support for version 10 ?
    Thanks & Regards !

    Hi,
    Wldeploy "weblogic.ant.taskdefs.management.WLDeploy" is present in weblogic.jar I have double check it and maven is a build tool and in the docs there is no way written its supported or not, however as its a build tool you can use it but make sure you are using the correct class as above.
    Also you can try using the ANT script given in the below link:
