MAX and Async Read/Write

Didn't MAX use to have an option to perform async read and write in the "Communicate with Instrument" window? I'm presently using Measurement & Automation Explorer 5.4.0f0. Please explain how I can use MAX to start and terminate async read and write calls.

VISAIC did use to support Async. See figures 7 and 8 on this link. It appears this was silently removed in later versions. When doing a Read or Write with Async checked, I believe it then showed a terminate button while it was executing. The benefit was this let you cancel the operation rather than waiting for a timeout error. Plus it was a quick sanity check of the instruments ability to perform and terminate async I/O.
NI does have a good async read/write Measurement Studio VB.NET sample project called SimpleAsynchronousReadWrite.

  • Async read/write

    Hi all,
I am developing a device driver for a custom PCI card on 64 bit Sparc
Solaris 8 which is going to replace another card. We already have
applications running, so I'm supposed to give the same interface as the
    original one.
The application with the original driver/card makes asynchronous
    reads/writes as follows:
    - open(device, O_RDWR | O_NONBLOCK)
    - call write
    - for (;;) {
call ioctl to get device status
    break on completion or error.
    - call write second time (same buffer, same size)
So, in the driver, I should implement async writes in the 'write'
    entry, not 'awrite'.
I was thinking of creating an aio_req structure and calling aphysio
inside 'write', but this is not documented. Another problem in this
approach is the second call to 'write' in the application.
    So my questions are:
    1) How should I implement this? Create a thread and provide async
functionality inside this thread? But this doesn't make much sense to
me because there's already an async functionality provided by Solaris.
    2) What could the purpose of the second 'write' call be in the user app.
    Thanks in advance

  • Toshiba SSD vs Samsung SSD and inconsistent read/write speeds

I've heard that some of the 2011 Airs are shipping with Toshiba SSDs where others have the Samsung SSDs. Apparently the Toshiba ones are considerably slower and are more likely to be in the 13" models where the Samsung SSDs are more likely to be in the 11" models. I was curious if anyone out there has an 11" model with the 256GB option, and if so, which SSD did you get in yours? See here: http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/25/2011-macbook-air-ssd-speeds-are-not-consistent/#mo re-85182

Are you looking to get a response from Apple here? If so you're going to be left wanting. This is a user-to-user discussion forum, if you wish to communicate with Apple you'll need to get on the phone with AppleCare or bring it into the store.
You can also return the machine and buy a new one, it's a 50/50 chance.
I have the Toshiba drive in my 13" MBA with the 128GB SSD. A co-worker has the same model machine with a Samsung drive.
As Apple doesn't promise a minimum SSD read/write speed I don't really see any justification for them to offer an exchange on a unit unless it's defective (which this would not be considered defective in their eyes). Thus my recommendation for the return. The other problem is there's no discernible markings on the outside of the box that indicate which drive is in the machine, plus Apple doesn't let you "try before you buy."
Even given the slower Toshiba speeds, I'd be really curious to see someone max out the capabilities of either drive.

  • HT1549 How do I read write to an external drive?  I am under admin account and cannot read write to any folder on the external drive.

I have a Mac Mini with Mavericks installed, as well as a PC running Windows 7.  I want to be able to read write from both computers to an external drive on the Mac.  I created 2 folders on the drive and named them Movies, and TV Shows.  The content of those folders are the respective files. I set up both folders to be shared on the Mac under system preferences, and then mapped the drives on the PC.  I also created a user account with admin privileges on the mac that matched my PC.   I then copied a Music folder to the root drive instead of using external, and set up sharing as well.  File Sharing is selected for all three folders, however the music folder is the only one which allows me to change the permissions to allow read write to everyone, or to create individual user accounts to connect with read write permissions.  The options to add users or change permissions are simply grayed out for the two folders on the external drive, so not only can I not write from my PC, but I can’t even do it on the Mac with the administrative user logged in. The folder on the root drive is fine but I cannot make any changes to the external drive at all.  Get info for any folder on drive shows read only.  SMB and AFP are selected for all folders under options.  I can access all three folders from PC, but can only add files to the Music folder. I cannot do anything from either computer to the folders on the external drive.

Try Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility - select the drive and run Repair Disk.

  • External Optical Drives/DVD and CD Read/Writer

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro from late 2007 had a DVD reading/writing problem, Apple Support told me its going to be around US$200.00 for repair.
I was thinking if an external dvd-rom will be better since after paying for repair it will just die anyway, apple ****** rom will die anyway.
So my question is if any external dvd-rom will work, even for bootcamp installation.
    Any idea?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Just to make sure you don't have a permissions problem causing the read/write problem, open Disk Utility and repair permissions if you haven't already.
I think the main thing to check with an external unit is that it is compatible with any OS you want to run and that there is a way to install it if your internal optical drive is not working. You may need to download the drivers from the manufacturer's web site, so be sure they are available.
    Good luck!

  • Physical reads, writes and logical reads, writes

    hi there,
is there any way to find the physical reads and writes, logical reads and writes
    other than statspack report?

It depends which version of Oracle are you using.
If you are using 10g, you can get very comprehensive information from the dictionary views.
If you are on <=9i, then, use, v$sysstat and look for 'physical reads', 'logical reads'.
The values dervied from v$sysstat are cummulative values. i.e. values counted since the instance started.

  • Could a SMC or PRAM Reset Affect a Superdrive's CD and DVD Read/Write?

Hi. Would a SMC or PRAM reset make the Superdrive read CD and DVDs better (it mounts CD-RWs and DVD+RWs which is usually labels as untitled DVD but it can't seem to mount original disks that are in good condition like: Snow Leopard DVDs that came with this iMac, Grand Theft Auto IV, Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars)? Or SMS and PRAM resets are not related to Superdrive?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

The SMCreset does affect the superdrive but your condidion may be from dust/dirt in the DVD on the lens system. Mine is real sensitive to dirt and smudges on the actual DVD but occasional lens cleaning helps. You can get DVD lens cleaners (with the tiny brushes on the disk) from most vendors that carry the media.

  • "Windows 8 using 100% of HDD with high average response times and low read/write speed"

Turns out this is a fairly well known windows 8.1 issue that has been plaguing users since at least 2013 and there is no one simple fix, so it may not be *entirely* hp's fault; but I've had two of these laptops, both the same model, the first one needing to be returned and exchanged for an entirely unrelated issue (hardware failure: ethernet port nonfunctional with lights stuck on). Both are refurbished. Both have been extreemly slow and unresponsive even compared to a lesser Brazos powered laptop I had before, but I've only recently decided to investigate why.
So if there is something HP specific going on here, I hope there is one simple fix. My average response time has gone up as far as well over a minute (>60,000ms), so I may be an outlier case here compared to the typical windows 8.1 hardrive responsiveness/bandwidth problem.
Edit: there is a case with another HP pavilion laptop (intel powered though, so it may be an intel storage driver issue described in the first link) being much, much worse.
    This question was solved.

                   System.out.println("*");
                   BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(file));
}when I remove the BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(file)); The star prints, so the file does exist, but I keep getting that exception when I put the code back. I also get that exception when I remove the File file and the if statement and just have the buffered input. Can anyone explain to me why this is happeneing?

    Procject1Typo?Less likely if file.exists() passes.
what about "file.canRead()"? You should also try this, could be a permissions problem. My best guess, despite the thread title. From the Javadoc for FileInputStream(File) :
    Throws:
FileNotFoundException - if the file does not exist, is a directory rather than a regular file, or for some other reason cannot be opened for reading.
That last part seems kind of misleading.
    Edit:
By the way are you logged on as "The RTV" when you test this?

  • Read/Write Jar files?

This is really a newbie question, but since there's a forum specifically for jar questions I figured it was better to start here and move it to the newbie section if y'all deem it appropriate.
I have written a desktop application using Java 1.4.1 class libraries and intend the application to run on multiple platforms including Mac OS X, Windows XP and Linux. The application works standalone (not yet jarred) on the machine it was developed on, but now it's time to begin figuring out the distribution method.
Right now, the application reads several files from a flat text-file database, allows the user to peruse and display the information in a variety of ways, and gives the user a method to add to the flat-file database as needed. The file is about a megabyte and is excerpted into memory at initialization, then not referred to again unless the user writes additional data. When the user generates new data, write traffic to the file is fairly light, maybe 2-3kbytes per session.
I searched the forums for the best way to handle read/write data files for distribution and so far I haven't found anything that seems relevant, but surely the question must have been asked and answered before - maybe I'm using the wrong keywords?
Anyway, I have three basic questions:
    1) Can I both read and write a file that's enclosed in a jar file? Or are files read-only once "jarred"?
    2) Assuming I can both read and write a file within my jar file, is reading and rewriting within the jar so inefficient as to make that a non-preferred approach?
    3) How do other folks who have a local read/write datafile in a desktop application deal with distribution? Keep the read/write datafile within the jar? Make a copy of it outside the first time the application is run and always read/write the copy outside the jar? Or some other strategy?
Thanks for any suggestions you can give a newbie at the Java game.
    Jon

Thanks, that was pretty much what I suspected.
I have several data files and configuration files for this project, so I was trying to make the distribution as clean as possible. At least some of the config information can be hidden in Preferences, but I was struggling with the data files. I'll include the data files in my jar, then unpack them to the user's directory when launched the first time and work with them thereafter in the user's directory.
    Enjoy the Dukes!

  • Are my read/write speeds up to snuff?  MacPro Octo 2.26

What are typical and good read/write speeds I can expect on my MacPro Octo 2.26 10GB Ram.
According to iStat, on a simple copy, I get about 65-70 MB/s read from a WD 640 caviar black internal bay, and 65-70 MB/s write to a WD 640 caviar black internal bay. Are there any apple docs that explain what we can expect, how to enhance? You can skip RAID talk, this is just basic stock computer and best operating procedures I'm speaking of. Thanks!
The OS is on a WD 74 Raptor drive.

    Drives keep evolving.
It depends on what you copy, and what matters, or, where if any place is there a bottleneck?
Newer 10K VR drives maybe, boot drive is important.
    SSDs definitely boost system.
Isolating I/O between drives (system, scratch, media, etc) really helps so all the work and I/O is spread out.
Newer 1TB and above drives with 500GB platters and higher density, too.
Best differs from video editing, to mild editing of files, to very heavy work in CS4.
Also, keeping your drives to 50% free space, or what I do for some drives is short-stroke so I really only use one outer partition to work with and use the rest for junk and inactive archive/backup and storage.
iStat - never used it and definitely not for benchmarking drives.

  • Thunderbolt drive Read/Write speeds have significantly dropped

I got a new Western Digital Thunderbolt VelociRaptor drive. When I did speed tests on it using "BlackmagicDesign" Speed Test software initially (when empty) the drive was giving me read and write speeds of 350 MB/s. Now however I have 90% of the drive occupied with data and the read/write speeds have dropped significantly to 230 MB/s. Any ideas as to why and how I could improve this?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Apple's AirPort base stations aren't known for fast file serving, but for most purposed they're fast enough.
I can't comment specifically on your Aperture plan, but with some software it's important to avoid simultaneous access by more than one user.

  • Cant create/convert image to read/write with Disk Utility

dear all, because of some reasons, I have to combine files from 2 Recovery DVDs into one, and since the first disc is bootable and have guiding program installed, so my idea is:
    1. Create a read/write image of the first disc
    2. Mount the image
    3. Add files of disk 2 into the image
I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Disk Utility is 11.5.2
    My question is:
No matter I choose "New Image" and select "read/write" to create a new image, or I choose "Convert" and select "read/write" to convert a created image, the results are the same: I still get READ-ONLY image only.
Is there any trick, or is the version of disk utility got some issues?
Or is there any other free tool can do so?
I have Toast 10 and it's image merging functions seemed not working either...
    Thanks all in advance

If your database version is 11g R2 then you can use active database duplication as Hermant says.
    http://taliphakanozturken.wordpress.com/2011/06/26/creating-standby-database-with-rman-active-database-duplication-in-11gr2/
Otherwise you need data pump export/import, transportable tablespace, etc to transfer your data.

    Hello,

This requires a FILE_PATH and NO format

    And, then I can read/write
So: how is THIS read/write different from the ones above.
I can see that THIS read/write requires a refnum from the

there is a TAB between columns and and EOL between rows. Writes in ASCII

I found this strange also but, you can use the Write Char or generate
    your own VI from
the lower level VIS. Which would be using the Write Char and adding EOL
as the last character in the line
There is a VI called Write + (String) that does not show up in the
palette but is used in some of the other VIs.

It is a byte stream which could be almost anything from ASCII to G

Not always but it can be. If you open an Excel file in a text editor you
    will see
what a complex byte stream file looks like. The data is interspersed
    with formatting bytes.

This is the most basic level of what file I/O does.

The Open/Read/Write/Close are the primitves. The others are built up
    from these
for special file types (like spreadsheet). They use the primitives and
    add some formatting
    and other options.
