Max connections in Oracle 10g Express

Hi,
How much connections are possible in Oracle 10g Express ?

I do the following test:
I format the test PC, install the O.S. and install Oracle 10g Express and run the following code:
package testedb;
import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.DriverManager;
import java.sql.SQLException;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.List;
public class TesteDB {
     * @param args
     public static void main(String[] args) {
          List<Connection> connections = new ArrayList<Connection>();
          try
     Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
     while(true)
          connections.add(DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@albatroz:1521:XE", "system", "xxx"));
          //connections.add(DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@albatroz:1521:MYDB", "system", "xxx"));
          System.out.println("connections: "+connections.size());
     catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
     System.out.println ("Could not load the driver");
     e.printStackTrace ();
     } catch (SQLException e) {
          System.out.println("----------------------------------------------------------");
               System.out.println("Qtd of connections: "+connections.size());
               System.out.println("----------------------------------------------------------");
               e.printStackTrace();
After the first test I format again the PC, install the O.S. and install Oracle 10g Standard and run the same code, changing only the database name.
Well, I get the following results:
- Oracle 10g Express: I get 19 connections;
- Oracle 10g Standard: I get 181 connection;
Final report:
With the same hardware (1GB RAM) and O.S. (Windows XP Professional) test, the Oracle 10g Express has any restrictions at the question max connections.

    what do I put in at the SQL > prompt to access sql plus?You may trySQL> conn / as sysdbabut don't use this one for your application data, create your own user(s) instead.
    Are there first some env. variables which I need to set?Depends... what's your operating system, and are you running sqlplus from SQL command line or from OS prompt ?

  • ODBC connection to oracle 10g express

    Hi , please i need help in connecting a MS Access file under odbc (System Dsn) to oracle 10g express and how to be accessed in oracle forms 6i , but please if any one can help me by a step by step and more details about that problem i will be so grateful .
    Thanks...!!

    and click on OK button. This way I added new connection. After that I was trying to rename the DSN connection name to SOURCE(Oracle_10g). there is no rename button. So i thought I remove this connection and add again. But when I try to add it. It will not add it. I follow the same procedure as i mentioned above. But finally when I click on OK button. it is not showing any new connection name under User Data Sources list. It is not giving any error messages.The ODBC Manager software is used to define and maintain ODBC connection aliases (aka DSN ). It enumerates the list of available drivers, interact with the driver when you want to use it to create an alias, and then stores the alias when defined.
    If this does not work, and the alias is not stored, it is not an Oracle XE problem, but something weird with the ODBC Manager.. or how you go about defining the alias/DSN.
    You can create user or system DSN's. You need certain privs (in your Windows account) to enable ODBC Admin to write the required changes to disk for that DSN. Etc.
    I suggest focusing on these aspects as I strongly doubt that Oracle itself is part of the problem in this case.

  • Max Connections to Oracle 10g RAC Instance

    Hi,
    We have IBM Websphere Application Server on one unix server which is connecting to a Oracle 10g RAC Instance which is on a different unix server through JDBC connection. They(Application Team) are doing stress tests, please tell me how many connections can a Oracle Database Allow simultaneously. They tested for 2000 connections simultaneously. It failed...This is urgent, they are on call please reply ASAP
    Thanks,

    Use Oracle Shared Server (the default is Dedicated Server),
    I've shown JBOSS app developers how a little Dell desktop (256MB RAM, 1.7Ghz P4) can accept a 1000 app server connections (using Shared Server). While a big HP-UX server failed to accept 200 connections (using Dedicated Server).
    Oracle RAC should easily be able to handle 100+ concurrent client OLTP connections per RAC node using Shared Server - assuming that each of the concurrent sessions are actually doing stuff and not just sitting there idle. (if 99.99% of the connections are idle, then even a little desktop Oracle database can handle well over a 1000)
    Bottomline - you must have your primary focus and expertise on Oracle. On the the data tier. Not the app tier. The data tier is what scales the app tier. Not vice versa. Adding an extra app tier server does not enable the data tier platform to suddenly be able to run more SQLs, The app tier does not scale the data tier.
    If you want performance and scalability, you must get the data tier right. App tier be damned as that is neither here nor there ito performance and scalability. This means Oracle expertise is required first and foremost.

  • Problem connecting to Oracle 10g express on linux SUSE

    Peace upon you,
    I have downloaded the RPM file and installed it , but when i try to log in the home page using "Go to database home page" the browser says that the page is not found.
    And when i type in the terminal : ./oracle-xe status

    So what is the problem..........?

    I've managed to get OracleXE working properly on my SuSE10.2 box - I found an interesting issue - did you specify that the oracle database should not start up on system boot?
    (Check ORACLE_DBENABLED parameter in /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe)
    If this is set to FALSE, the database will not start up. You'd need to:
    su to root
    su - oracle (note the '-')
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba;
    startup;
    exit;
    lsnrctl start
    - All the above is a manual startup - hope that helps....
    Carl.
    (PS: if you want to access the database from behind the firewall, you'll need to go into YAST, security, firewall, then advanced, and specifically open TCP port 1521, also port 8080 if you want to be able to view the web front end on another machine.... sometimes the firewall can be a pain...)

    Hello,
    Oracle 10g XE is rather specific and, I'm not sure that you can upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 .
    However, Oracle published an Upgrade Guide for Oracle Express Edition but, it's limited to *10.2.0.3*:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/server.102/b32391/toc.htm
    But be careful:
    Once you have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g, you cannot downgrade back to Oracle Database Express Edition.Hope this help.

    Many thanks to all.

    Hi,
    >>Can you tel me how to increase this number in oracle 10g express???
    Just modifying the processes parameter is sufficient. The sessions parameter will be adjusted automatically.
    SQL> alter system set processes=200 scope=spfile;
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    SQL> startupFor more information, take a look at this [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1672879&#1672879]thread

  • Java Connection Pooling issue with Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello
    I have a Java based web application that uses the Oracle 10g Express Edition database. I am using a connection pool to get connections to the database.
    I use the NetBeans IDE and run my web application on the bundled Tomcat server(5.5.7) that comes with the IDE. Though when I initially run the application from the IDE, the connection pool is set up fine, when I recompile my java code and try to run the application again, I get the following error each time:
    Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12516, TNS:listener could not find available handler with the
    matching protocol stack.
    The logs before the error shows up, indicate that the connection pool object is fine and gives me the number of available connections and the number of active connections and so on, which I have printed from the constructor of the Connection Pool class:
    For e.g.:
    Cache size = 17
    Available Connections = 17
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
    However, if I kill my Tomcat server process and run the application again, it works fine with no error.
    I looked around for possible causes and solutions and all I could find
    was increasing the processes parameter value in the init.ora file. I have increased the parameter value to from 100 to 20000 now, in increments of 500/1000 each time but it hasnt worked so far.
    Someone else suggested that I increase the size of my connection pool; I initially had it set to a minimum limit of 5, an initial limit of 10 and a maximum limit of 1000. However if I set the Initial Limit to anything above 17 connections, I see the following log on the Bundled Tomcat log and my application doesn't run at all:
    Log: Loading JDBC Driver : class=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver ...
    Log: Loaded JDBC Driver
    Log: Connection with URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe as username/password
    Error code not handled : 0
    Exception Message :java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12519, TNS: no appropriate service handler found
    The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:xe
    // End of log
    And the Bundled Tomcat server automatically shuts down.
    Again the System.out statements from the Connection Pool class constructor show that the cache has been initialized and that currently there are free connections available in the pool.
    E.g.
    Cache size = 18
    Available Connections = 18
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
    Has anyone faced anything similar? Could someone please suggest what I'm doing wrong here and what I should do to set right this problem?
    Swetha

    hello, please pardon me, my english is basic. i do of my best. i had the same problem until reading the pdf documentation 2 days for java devvelloper.it is simple, follow this way.
    try {OracleDataSource ds;
         Connection conn;
      ds = new OracleDataSource();
      ds.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost");
      conn = ds.getConnection("userid","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    don't forget to Dowload the user client of oracle Express Edition. do the rest of your program and it will work. take a look to the documentation pdf for java develloper. all it is explained.  good look

  • Connecting oracle 10g express edition to jdeveloper

    I am having all kinds of problems connecting oracle 10g express edition with my jdeveloper 10.1.3.3. I can query the database from my command line so I know it is set up, but for whatever reason jdeveloper will not connect with it. When I try to connect with the database through jdeveloper here is the error I keep getting:

    ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
    The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:ORCL
    I have been all through the google results looking for an answer and have come to the conclusion that it is something with either the listerner file or the tns file, but as of yet have been unable to locate them. here are both of those files too.

    This has to be some kind of bug with 10g express because I see lots of people having similar problems. I'm in the process of uninstalling 10g, and I will re-install it see if that makes a difference. Again if anyone has any other ideas please keep them coming because this is utter BS it shouldn't be this hard.

  • How do I connect from Crystal Report version XI to Oracle 10G express?

    I'm new to oracle 10G express and I'm developing an application that needs reports to preview some data from oracle tables.
