  • Slow internet via wifi

i'm posting again about the slow airport where the webpages start to load and pause for 10 seconds then continue to load VERY slowly.
i called apple, they said it's my card or the router. i brought it to the store and it worked fine, so i'm assuming it's my router.. but what is wrong with my router?
it works well with everyother computer in the house, even a powerbook.
why is it JUST my MBP that has insanely slow internet via wifi?
    i have a netgear wgr614v3..
should i buy a new router just because my MBP doesn't work good with it?
    thanks!

That is what I ended up doing. Though in my case it was not just my computer but my wifes Toshiba as well. They both have the Atheros based cards. I have seen reports regarding issues with the Atheros cards and certain D-Link, Linksys and Netgear routers though the one I had as a Belkin Pre-N.
The issue I had was in using the WPA security. It worked fine with WEP but had the symptoms you describe with WPA.
I recent replaced it with a Netgear RangeMax WPN824 v2 and they both appear to be working fine so far. My Dell notebook which is not Atheros based had no problems with either router.

  • Music wont sync on my new iphone 4s. Restored it from a backup and now there's no music on it. In the music tab it says: Thomas iPhone has access to music on iCloud. Songs can be fetched via WIFI or a mobile network. What to do?

Restored it from a backup and now there's no music on it. In the music tab it iTunes says: Thomas iPhone has access to music on iCloud. Songs can be fetched via WIFI or a mobile network. The pnly thing I can chose to sync are voice memos.
    What can I do?

If you want all the songs from an artist on your phone you can to to the artist view, tap on the artist, scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a Download All button.  This works for playlists and albums too (scroll to the bottom and tap the Download All button).  I suppose if you wanted all your music on your phone you could create a smart playlist in iTunes on your computer that would contain all your music, upload it to iTunes match (Store>Update iTunes Match), and then you would get a Download All button at the bottom of this playlist on your phone to download all your songs.

  • Please help: How to replace all data on mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15 with Timemachine backup from 2009 MBP 13

OK so I bought a mid-2010 MacBook pro 15 from a friend and he did not erase anything before he gave it to me. I was previously working on a 2009 MacBook pro 13 and have a Timemachine backup from that which I would like to install on the MBP 15 replacing all of the current data.
I have tried rebooting using the OSX disc that came with the MBP 15 but that won't work - I am assuming that is because the OSX disc is version 10.6.3 while the current OS on the MBP 15 is 10.7.4
What is the best/easiest way to use the Timemachine backup of my MBP 13" to replace all info on the MBP 15"?
This seems like something that should be easy but I have been trying to do it since last night and haven't found relevant info in the discussion forums. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • MBP 2011 does not find wifi

My new MBP (2011) will not find my wifi even in the same room?
    Andy Idea's why?
    Thanks M

Is it WPA2 encrypted and a closed network?  Sometimes you have to manually specify the network settings by Connect to Other... from the Airport menu when the network is closed.

i have even done a apple hard ware test but it says everything is alright
i am really tensed what do i do pls help me

If AHT doesn't show any issues, your best bet would probably be to take it to the Apple Store. The AirPort (Wi-Fi) card may have been unseated from its original position. If there is a problem with the card Apple should be able to replace it for free.

  • HT204032 Powernap works for timemachine backups but NOT for Find My Mac. Mid 2011 mba. osx 10.8.2. Anyone else have this problem?

    Hi,
I'm looking for a solution to this issue. Console shows that mba wakes up for timemachine backups but when firing Find My Mac on iPhone or iMac, it does not succeed in locating my mba and it is listed as offline.
    How to solve this?
    Cheers
    Kris

This states that you need to do an smc reset for full powernap functionality. It could be effecting it if it was an older macbook air that you updated to mountain lion?

  • MBP 2011 died and having problems reinstalling Mac OS

    Hello,
Having problems trying to make my MBP start working again...
    Tech info:
Early 2011 MBP, 10.6.6 preinstalled Mac OS X
    2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    256GB Solid State Drive
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Resolution Antiglare Widescreen Display
Was full updated up to date 3-4 days ago, so probably it was 10.6.7 before the crash.
I am pretty new to Macs and english is not my first language, so please excuse me if i use wrong terminology. Thanks.
It is pretty long story, the problem is - i can not install Mac OS X and make it work. The at the moment description of the situation is in Part 6, so you might want to skip parts 1-5, although reading those might be needed to understand the source of the problem or some details.
    The Story:
Everything worked great for about a month but then multi-language kernel panic windows asking me to reboot computer poped up. Reboot didnt help and it kept asking me for more and more reboots after like 1 minute after it logs in into Mac Os.
I had 3 programms(among others) installed: Kaspersky(fully updated trial), Parallels(activated a month age oem version, runing Windows 7 as a virtual machine without using Bootcamp) and virtualbox(activated 2 weeks ago, not being used or opened for ~10 days).
Part 1 - After logging into Mac OS 2 messages always pop'ed up:
    1) Kaspersky couldnt lunch in previous Mac OS startup(not current)
    2) Parallels message: Its time to choose either to use trial Parallels or to enter activation key. Thats really weird because it was activated a month ago, was fully updated and worked great every day. When i tried to activate it again it just didnt accept the key which was accepted last time: the icon was still grey and not clickable, rechecked 10 times at that moment.
Ok, decided to uninstall both Kaspersky and Parallels via Safe Mode. Safe Mode is working fine. Removed programms by dragging them from application folder to trash can. Worked fine. Logged into normal mode. No messages appear except the "Hello, you had kernel last time", but still Kernel appear in 2-3 minutes. Logging in 32b mode(by pressing 32 while booting up) doesn't help either.
Part 2 - Rebooted. Booted from boot DVD and used Disk utility - nothing is wrong.
Went to safe mode again. Found Kernel Log and it showed me that the source of the error was some file of VirtualBox(at least it has virtualbox in its name. Virtualbox itself, again, wasn't launched for like 10 days) located in /extension folder. Removed virtualbox program by dragging it from applications folder to trash. Worked fine, but those files in /extension folder weren't deleted. I am pretty new to Macs, so i wasn't sure if those are really VirtualBox programm's files or Mac OS system files, so i decided to reboot and check if the problem still not fixed.
Result: You cant boot neither in normal mode or in Safe mode. It just doesnt react on anything.
    No backups. Great.
Part 3. Booted via boot DVD. Worked fine. Checked if disc was ok - it wasn't ok. Tried to repair - cant repair, suggests me to reinstall.
Made a backup on external HDD(have it atm, so iа you need any info i can get from that backup to help you guys understand what happened - ask and i will give it to you asap).
Erased internal HDD with zeroes(1 row), it still has 4 files on it(around 300 mb), probably those are the files copied from Boot DVD, but i am not sure.
Part 4. Tried to install Mac OS from boot DVD. File system is for Mac os with journaled option activated. Installation process starts fine but at some point(around 25-30% while telling me its around 30 minutes left) the error message appears telling mу the installation couldn't be continued because it cant copy some files from DVD(no particullar files mentioned). Advising me to reboot and try again. Same thing happens always.
DVD disk was never used and even not unpacked before, looks fine...
Part 5. Inserted the boot DVD in another mac, made a copy via disk utility in mac os(without booting using this disc), copied it to external drive where the backup is. So there are 2 files on external drive: backup.dmg and starupDVD.dmg.
Pulled in the external hdd to MBP and tried clicking option key to choose him to boot from HDD. Nothing happens, just mouse appears without any windows where i can choose the boot option. Weird. Tried all 3 usb ports, same problem. Tried to put the DVD disk and click option key - both mouse and window appears, but only DVD boot option avaivable.
Tried to reset RAM by clicking Command-Option-P-R keys. Reset went fine(the sound and so on), but it didn't effect on anything.
Part 6(this very moment): So here i am. Have erased internal HDD with 4 files in it(around 300 mb, dont know what), boot DVD which came along with MBP with 10.6.6 MaсOS, external HDD with the same DVD and backup.
Disk utility says my internal HDD is ok.
Clicking option key doesnt make my MBP see external HDD while it is plugged in any usb port, only mouse appears. Same option key sees dvd disk if it is plugged in and boots normally.
You can see and work with external HDD if you boot from boot DVD.
Installation process starts both fine on internal and external HDDs. On internal it crashed with "cant copy files" message at ~20-30%(~30 minutes left), on external the screen just turns grey with moveable mouse on it without any messages at around 30%(~40 minutes left).
External HDD - Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1TB USB 3.0
Internal HDD - 256gb SSD which came from Apple (sorry for calling it internal HDD)
    Think its pretty much it...
What should i do to make this thing work? Pretty much desperate already.
    Thank You for any help.
    Sincerely yours,
    Alexander.

Just one more thing - the description of what i did while first Kernel appeared:
Happened 2 days ago. Wasn't turning it off for like a day, only sleep mode by closing it. Worked fine all day, wasn't doing anything, except for checking mail 2-3 times and having windows 7 virtual machine opened but doing nothing, everything was going fine. Then closed it without turning off.
Opened 3-4 hours later, everything was working fine for 30 minutes of checking mail, then Kernel appeared. After that pretty much everything i did is described in part 1-5.
Note: all the time MBP was connected to internet via wifi, so updates to both MBP and virtual machine of all programs were possible.
I only shared downloads and desktop folders, so windows couldn't have access to system folder of Mac Os.
    Hope this might help...Thanks again.

  • Timemachine - Backups have gone

    Hi All,
This is my first post, so be gentle!
I backup to a Western Digital MyBookWorld 2TB NAS drive.  Since upgrading to ML I've twice experienced a total loss if my timemachine backups.
On each occassion I've noticed because TM starts doing a full backup - which I stopped.  Going to TM preferences showed no previous backups the first time it happened.  Today I went into TM (trying to find a backup of my iPhone in an attempt to get my iOS5 back after discovering the joys of the new Maps app - but that's another story) there were no backups before today, though TM preferences showed a backup from last night.
Anyways, I don't really understand what has happened so I looked at the TM logs - which I also don't understand, but it looks like something went wrong. Do any of you folk know what has happened and do you have any advice? My goal is to have dependable backups. Would I be better off buying a TimeCapsule?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    Hi there,
I had the same problem yesterday on my old MacBook Pro 15". I have a 2TB Western Digital harddisc connected to my Airport Extreme, so it is actually nearly the same as the Time Capsule, with the only difference that my hdd's are external and not built in. This 2 TB disc is divided into two partitions, one is the time machine partition from my newer macbook pro 13" and the other one for the older 15".
This configuration was working perfectly via WiFi for nearly two years now, at the beginning with Snow Leopard, then with Lion and now with Mountain Lion.
So to cut a long story short, yesterday the old MacBook reported, that the last update is already more than 11 days ago and that it has todo a full backup with over 120GB. As this surprised me completely I checked the backup disc and noticed that it was nearly empty. It seems that the complete image file (in case of WiFi backup the backups are placed in an image file) for the time machine backup was deleted and a new one was started.
I even checked the console logs and it was stated there, that there was a partially deleted file found, which was afterwards deleted and then a one was created. I haven't got the logs here now, but it was nearly the same as in the log from maz100 with the only difference that it did no report me "runtime corruption" on the image file, it reported me a "partially deleted file" found.
I checked also the other partition on that disc and the backups from my 13" book are still there. So I got no clue why the complete image file of my 15" book has been deleted and a new one has been created, it's running now since yesterday to make the new full backup.
For me it seems as the image file of the TM backup got currupted somehow and was replaced by a new one. It is a bit strange for me, that this is done without stating any information to the user as you actually loose all your backups. Till now I felt quite secure with the backups, it was good to now that there are still backups, when you delete something accidentally, but if complete backups are disappearing I'm loosing my trust in these TM backups a bit, not speaking about the time it takes to perform a complete new backup via Wifi.
....and it seems, I'm not the only one around here. I'm afraid it has to do with my recent Mountain Lion Backup as it did not come up for years with SL or Lion.
    Greetings
    Bernhard

  • Can my mid 2011 macbook air be upgraded to wifi 802.11ac?

Can my mid 2011 macbook air be upgraded to wifi 802.11ac? I am considering replacing my 802.11n router with the 802.11ac time capsule. Will this effect my download speed on my 802.11n macbook air (mid 2011)? can it be upgraded?

No, you cannot change the Wi-Fi hardware in your Mac. The Time Capsule is still worth it due to its ability to make backups of your Mac via Time Machine.

  • My iMac kernel panics when backing up via WIFI

Scenario:  my iMac, running 10.8.4 (latest version) backing up via WIFI over Wireless N, kernel panics and crashes on initial backup.
I upgraded my router to go Wireless AC.  I purchased a 4TB WD My Book to go with it.
I was using the standard Verizon ActionTec and an 1TB iomega NAS drive attaced via ethernet to the ActionTec.  Time Machine worked fine with that scenario, however, the 1TB was becoming too small for my needs and I wanted to segregate my network.
Moving to AirPort Extreme and a 4TB MyBook was a great solution.  On page 13 of the AirPort Extreme manual, it indicates this is an acceptable configuration.
On the WIFI backup, the iMac kernel panics and crashes.  Here is the error message:
    panic (cpu 3 caller 0xffffff80272f3458):  "hfs_swap_HFSPlusBTInternalNode: attr inline #21 too big (attrSize=2097202)\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2050.24.15/bsd/hfs/hfs_endian.c:822
My Apple Support rep told me to ethernet the iMac to the Extreme for the initial backup.  I did that and the backup worked, with out crashing.
Then I added some files to the iMac and did an incremental Time Machine Backup.
Recall that with the ActionTec/iomega, I had no such issues.  So I attached the iomega to the AirPort Extreme and attempted an initial backup.
My iMac kernel paniced and crashed.   It's either the AirPort Extreme or the iMac with the issue.  Or the marriage of the two.
    Any ideas?

If you have the iSight model G5, you cannot self repair the insides/remove the HD (will void your warranty/AppleCare). You will need to take the computer to your local AASP for a professional to remove.

  • IPhoto library via wifi

    Hi,
I have a MBP and I am running out of memory because I have a quite large iPhoto Library (more than 200 GB). I was thinking in moving the library to an airport time capsule in order to have iPhoto acces in my MBP via WIFI to this hard disk. Is that possible? I read in other discusiions not to acces iPhoto libraries via WIFI because of the danger of files dropout and the risk of damaging the library but may be that risk is over via airport time capsule. Could anyone help me?
    Thanx in advance

You can but it is a bad idea and propbably will cause problems - WiFi is slow and unreliable compared to wired connections and is not recommended for editing und importing photos
and the typical  use of a Time Capsule is as the location of the Time Machine backup (although it can be used as an extrnal drive) - the iPhjoto library can not be on the same volume as the Time Machine backup due to the way Tm works - and even if you could it would mean that you would have no backup of your photos - that is a really bad idea too
Beest solution is a hard wired external drive - and if you use the MBP as a portable a lot it works best to have a master library on the EHD and a smaller, current library on the MBP using iPhoto Library Manager to move photos from the MBP to the master library

I use my MacBookPro via WIFI and every time a put my MacBookPro asleep (with MAC OS 10.8.3), once I wake the machine back on, Time machine is not able to connect anymore to the backup NAS on the network.
I always have to turn OFF and ON again wifi to make it work.
    What's wrong?
How can I solve this undesirable matter?
    Thank you

    Thanks,
But i do not have a WIFI problem in general on my Mac, it's just Time Machine that does not reconnect with the backub network drive unit.....
All the rest is working fine.

  • How to recognize TimeMachine backup with new laptop

Hi, I just replaced my old MBP with a new one. I transferred the content to the new MBP with a restore from TimeMachine, which I have on a Drobo.
Now I can't access TimeMachine with the new MBP. The backups are saved in a folder named "laptop", and as soon as I initiate a back up, the system will create a new backup folder "laptop 2". I tried renaming laptop into laptop 2, but the name cannot be changed, even after adding myself with read&write privileges to the laptop folder.
Is there any way to have the new MBP recognize the TimeMachine files of the old MBP?

Exactly how did you do that?   Did you use Setup Assistant when your new Mac first started up?
If you did, you should have been given an option on the first backup of the new one, per #B5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
But if you didn't get that prompt, or chose Create New Backup, there's no way to change it now.
However, you can always see and restore from the old backups, via the Browse Other Time Machine Disks option, per #E2 in that same link.
