MBP shuts down and Battery displays time like 38:27
i have read threw many post about this and have yet to find anything the help.
i bought it the summer of 2006 is 2ghz with 2G ram and 100gb hd. i'm over the 300 cycles mark. my computer last about 2min on battery and then shuts down when i plug it back in the system says the battery is charged. i also do not have apple care.

What does the profiler say about your battery's health? At 300 cycles, it should be around 80%. It sounds like yours may not be.
There are a couple of battery programs which might apply to your case:

It may be iffy to get anything under the first program since you are over 300 cycles, but if you feel that your battery meets any of the situations described, you could try. You are not very far over 300 cycles.
The second program is only for certain serial numbers and only for 15 inch MBP's. But if you do have one of those, you should be able to get a free replacement.
You do not have to have Applecare for these programs--they have to do with the battery, not the computer.
You could also try resetting the SMC and see if that helps.

1st problem was IMac running slow. Shut down and unplugged several times with no correction. Eventually, shut down, unplug and reboot resulted in wallpaper background eventually coming on screen but no icons. Nothing after that.
Kurt, do you know which exact iMac this is?
Have you blown the dust out lately?
Does it do better if allowed to cool off for a couple of hours?
What do you see if you hold Option or alt key at bootup?
Does it boot from the install disc holding c key at bootup? -
MBP shuts down and won't start up
I had my MBP for 2 months and it just started to act weird. For no reason, it randomly shuts down with no warning (just like if you would disconnect the battery) and won't even start up again (I had half of the start up sound then nothing). After a couple of more tries, it should startup again but soon things will go bad... Any idea what is going on ?
Sounds like a bad battery and/or problem with the PMU (power management unit) and/or memory.
"Half the start up sound" is a bad sign as it means it's failing the normal start up tests (I'd guess a Memory problem)
Reset the PMU and run the Hardware tests from Install DVD1 (hold down d at startup) and see what it reports. -
MBP shuts down when battery at appox. 30%
Hello,
I have a 17" MBP 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Recently (in the last 3-4 days) it has decided to shut down completely when the battery charge falls to around 30%. Prior to these symptoms appearing, it behaved normally with the 'low battery warning' appearing at about 5% and then going to sleep mode as opposed to shutting down.
I have reset the SMU by removing the adapter, battery and pressing the power button for 5 secs. Unfortunately the symptoms remain. Obviously I cannot re-calibrate the battery as it won't carry on below 30% charge without the MBP shutting down.
I'll be taking a trip to my local Apple dealer in the next few days but was wondering if anyone else here has any further suggestions I could try.

Umm... of course Apple will do something. I do not understand why you felt you had to add that to your reply. Allow me to explain:
1. I have AppleCare, therefore if it's a hardware issue then any repair will be carried out without any cost to me.
2. Apple have introduced a 'battery exchange and extension' program:

If the battery is at fault, regardless of whether I have AppleCare or not, the battery will be replaced as it falls within the terms of the extension program.
I have just now reset the PRAM and am running on battery power. I'll know in the next couple of hours whether that has had any effect or not.
Meantime, if anyone else has any additional suggestions as opposed to 'me too' type replies I would be very grateful.

MBP shuts down and requires a reboot (not a wake up)
I have a MBP that is running 10.5.8. When the power gets low and the MBP shuts down, I have to reboot it (push the power button). This is not the case with our iBook, or MacBook (I should double check it), here we just plug it in, hit the space bar and it starts up where it left off (just like it was asleep).
Is there some setting or ?
ThanksIf there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, you can use virtual Lock Button. Tap Settings App > General > Assessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new white screen button > Device > Lock Screen. This can even be used to turn OFF iPhone, by holding down on it. To turn iPhone ON, connect to power, charger or USB of computer.

i have macbook 5,2 mac osx 10.5 leopard, my problem is every 60 sec. a pop up on desktop restart, sleep, cancel, and shut down and the desktop dim also i already adjust the sleep time to longer time but nothing happen, and every time i shut down my laptop he go restart again i canot of my laptop, i shut down and before he restart again i push the power botton the laptop is off and if i start my laptop not start 2 to 5 time i remove the battery again fix then laptop start. any body can help me about this problem may only the setting but i dont have idea..... please help thanks

Why did Mountain Lion slow down my shut down and boot up time for my MacBook Pro?
I had Snow Leopard, and not Lion. My shut down time rose from about 5 seconds to 10-15 seconds. My start up time also increased noticeabley. Any reason why because I thought Mountain Lion was supposed to be faster.
I have very few apps other than what came on my MBP. I've checked most other, really dont think this is the problem. My MBP is not junked/cluttered up. Not many programs, just pictures, videos, and some docs. Everything seems to work smoothly once on, but the start up and shut down times are still double what they were when I bought with snow leopard (Not Windows like, but scary close). I cannot find any solution that will work. My opinion, should not have to do a clean install for it to work. Some folks have not experienced these issues, so I think its some setting or something else that is my problem. I have 4GB RAM, and considering increasing to 8, but from what I have read else where thsi will not increase boot or shutdown, way even increase. Right now, not sure if the new ML features out way the slow boot and shut down.

45 minutes of use = shut down and battery dead
this has only just started happening today. It happened twice so far. I have had my Macbook Pro plugged in and fully charged, then I begin to use it from battery power, and it will say i have somewhere between 3 hours - 3 hours and 30 minutes. After about 45 minutes of use, the Macbook Pro then shuts down unexpectedly with no warning. And will not turn on, both times this happened, I plugged it back into the power cord and the battery said it was at 0% charged. also, the charge icon says it will take about 20 - 30 minutes to charge, but it then stays like this for about 1 hour or more.
Can someone please give me an idea of what is wrong here? What I should do?
btw, I perchased my notebook back in may through a third party store and it is on 2 years extended warrenty coverage.It sounds like a dodgy battery from Week 7-8, what week is yours ?

Ibook g4 shutting down and battery problems
A couple months ago, just a couple weeks after my warranty coverage ended..., my ibook started having problems. It would go to sleep randomly and shut down randomly. I tried resetting the PMU, that did nothing to fix the problem. I would have to unplug the charger and take out the battery for a few minutes in order to get my computer to start back up. This problem got worse over the next couple weeks and would shut down several times a day.
I started to realize that when i had my computer in my lap or not on a hard stable surface or i moved it, it shut down more often. So i treated my laptop as a desktop and left it on my desk and never moved it. This decreased the random shutting down to twice a week instead of several times daily.
Now a new problem has arised and i'm not sure if its related to this. In the last 24 hours my computer has not been able to charge correctly or hold a charge. Its hooked up to the power cord right now and its not turning on or charging. I was able to get it to charge a little like 3% about 3 hours ago, but now nothing.
At this point i'm over ibooks and apple but i still want to know what the problem is and if its fixable. is this something i can fix myself? any suggestions? i'm not willing to pay more than $200 to fix this stupid thing... Last model ibook G4, it sits on my desk all day and is ok w/o movement, but at home will randomly tell me I must shut it down, more often if I move it. Its still under warranty, so i'm gonna take it in and see what they do to it....

MBP shuts down @ low battery instead of Sleep
So my new 2.4 Ghz Aluminum MBP (SSD, 4GB Ram) doesn't go to sleep when I use up the battery. When the battery is drained, the display turns black and the LED light blinks once and the computer shuts down.
I thought this could be a problem caused by InsomniaX, so I uninstalled it, but it still occurs. I haven't had the chance to calibrate the battery so I'm not sure if that will be the solution.
Anyone else having the same issue as me?I have the same issue here. I have manually set the sleep mode to 0, but my last MacBook Pro was set the same and it would still reserve some battery power to keep the RAM alive.
I don't have any other sleep issues at all and the machine is working wonderfully - it just won't wake up after the battery has drained completely and starts booting instead. It's a bit of a pain when I am trying to calibrate the battery although that doesn't seem to have helped. -
MBP shuts down when making Quick time conversion
MBP core duo 1.83 2G ram current updated software.
It shuts down when I try to do a Quick time conversion..
went to the Genius bar and booted from another drive and my macbook still shut down when doing a QT conversion. He says that means it is NOT a software issue.. blames the logic bd.. 310. for a fix if I send it out.. they would keep it overnight and do testing for free.
the console says "previous shut down cause: 3"... He said that was a code for shutting down by holding the button for 4 seconds and got all puzzled about that.
I have been able to convert files using Compressor which I have to do before I can use the go pro video in final cut.
it might have shut down once during a conversion that way.Monitor your CPU core temp and see at what temp the computer shuts off. Also, download SystemLoad and run that for awhile to stress the processor. See if you can get it to shut down with that and at what temp.

Why does my 3-year old MBP shut down and not start?
I have a mid-2010 MPB running Mt Lion and it is giving me fits. It consistently shuts down for no reason. I have taken it to the Genius bar and been told that I should add additional memory, so I have doubled the RAM with a new unit. The problem is that did nothing. I keep having to restart and now it seems not to want to start at all, so I can't do anything or learn anything. I have the basic MBP but I have 2011 Office for Mac and the other basic apps on board. Any ideas?

Mid 2010 15" Macbook Pro Random Shut down and Restart
I know this questions have more than likely come up a few times. But I have a mid 2010 15" Macbook pro that, for the last year, has randomly shut-down and restated displaying an error message each time. I have had this computer into three different computer repair shops over the last few months, two of which were apple certified, and have had a range of reasons provided for the issue. Anything from Motherboard to hard drive to virus. I have replaced the hard drive, did a complete reformat three times, and downgraded my OSX. But I still have the same issue. I recently came across some support tickets referring to an issue with this model of Mac, something to do with the graphics card. I downloaded a program that was supposed to be a work around, but am still having shutdown issues. I also heard that apple did a free replacement of the motherboard on these machines within 3 yeas of purchase. Obviously I am past that point, but I was hoping that there would be some other suggestions. I have ran an etrecheck on my machine and have attached it below. Can anyone provided any ideas of how I can fix this without having to buy a new motherboard?

When I try to connect my Ipod to my Imac it shuts down and goes to reset.
I have an IPod classic and I recently used it to put my purchased music on a PC at work and now it won't sync when I connect it to my Mac. It displays the "do not disconnect screen," shuts down and then displays the reset screen and then loops the whole sequence again. When I disconnect it the menu screen comes back up and it plays like normal.
