MDCrashReportTool crashes upon every sync
Everytime I go to sync my iPhone (1st gen) I always seem to an error. This has happened since I've upgraded to Firmware 2.0
The error code looks like this

I made this stop by using iTunes to Restore the iPhone. Takes a long time (like, half an hour), but it does restore all your settings as well as the software. I suspect this will only be a temporary fix, though.
There are reports that you can make this stop by removing or renaming MDCrashReportTool. On OS X, it's at
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Resources/AppleMobileDe viceHelper.app/Contents/Resources/MDCrashReportTool
On windows, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1376735&tstart=0
These strike me as hazardous, as updaters might not like your messing about where you're not welcome.
What I think I've learned from all this: Looks like
1. when an app crashes in the iPhone (I've had several), something is recorded there
2. next sync, the crash record is uploaded to the host (Mac or PC)
3. if you chose to do so during installation, this is sent to Apple for their bug-fixing pleasure
4. this would be handled by this MDCrashReportTool thing
5. but there's a bug in that
Resetting the iPhone, I suspect, cleared the record of old crashes, but the next time I have an app crash, it'll start all over again.

Upgraded to itunes 11.4 and now it crashes on every sync
I upgraded to itunes 11.4 (Win 7 64Bit), now every time I try to sync my iphone itunes crashes when syncing apps. Before it comes to syncing the apps everythings works fine. Calendar, contacts etc are being synced. I already de- and reinstalled everything as stated here but no luck. Only thing that happened is that now I don't have ANY apps on my phone. It's totally blank, except the original apps like mail etc. I also reinstalled the Microsoft C++ redistributable as advised in other posts. Nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know how ti fix this?Sorry, but this is NOT an acceptable solution.
It should not matter to Apple where we store the iTunes library file. This should be controlled (and is a preference configuration) by the preference settings. That is what preferences are for after all.
The fact that they seem (based on the post by Tom) to have assumed that it is on the c:\ drive is purely sloppy and stupid thinking.
Apple in my experience ignores the reality of the Windows world and where network or external drives are common.
Poor coding on Apples part does not excuse this sort of error.
I work in IT and if a developer under my control made this sort of fundamental error, they would probably be dismissed for stupidity.
Apple needs to fix this with a proper configurable solution NOW -
ITunes crash upon attempted sync.
Hello,
I've been having some issues with my ipod for a couple of days now involving a "corrupted" ipod that wouldn't be read by iTunes but i sorted that out by reinstalling the iPod software yet I still run into a problem:
Whenever iTunes attempts to being syncing my songs onto my iPod, iTunes freezes. I have tried using Manually Manage Music and all of the other options on iTunes' iPod menu but none of it prevents the crash.
Any ideas? I'm scared to restore it because the last time I did that it gave me the "Corrupt iPod" thing upon reconnectI'd recommend you to try this: http://www.jeffmccord.org/itunes-crashes-when-syncing-iphone-221/

Phone crashes upon every new update of iOS
Is anyone else having this problem? Every time I go to update my iOS on my iPhone 4, it crashes. It'll download the new iOS, but when it goes to install it on my phone, it really lags, then just all together crashes. I end up having to do a restore, which takes forever, THEN install the new iOS. And in the course of all this, I lose all my pictures and videos on my phone. It's really annoying, and I dread each upcoming update, because it ends up taking me almost 3 hours every time. My phone is nearly brand new...only had it a month or so. This shouldn't be happening, because I never have this issue when I update my iPod or my iPad. Is there something I can do to prevent it?
I've had no such problem or any problem installing the updates released for iOS4 since the iPhone 4 and iOS4 was released or after the install.
All photos and videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. The Camera Roll is for temporary storage until the photos and/or videos can be imported by your computer. I usually delete the photos and videos in the Camera Roll after the import process is complete as I do with any other digital camera. This will also reduce the time it takes to update your iPhone's backup, which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process. If you want any of the imported photos and videos available on your iPhone for viewing, they can be transferred to your iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process. -
ITunes 10.4 Crashes Upon App Sync With iPhone 3GS 32GB & iPad 2 64GB
I'm using the most recent iTunes software update (10.4.0.80) in conjunction wth IOS 4.3.5 on both my iPhone 3GS 32GB and iPad 2 64GB.
Both my iPhone and iPad have become unusable.Well, yesterday I fixed this. I don't know very well what of all the things I did was the one that fixed my problem:
When I tried to reindtall Lion it told me that my disk was not able to be used for the instalation so, investigating a lot pf posts, I did all this in order to reinstall Lion and see if iTunes worked properly after this:
-I removed my Bootcamp partition (used to use Windows XP).
-I made an empty small partition.
-Then I was able to reinstall Lion into my main partition.
-Installed Lion. iTunes started to work again.
-I removed the small partition.
I hope this helps someone.
Peace! -

ITunes crashes upon syncing music to iPhone 3GS iOS4
I recently bought an iPhone 3GS and upgraded it to 4.1. Whenever I try and sync my music, iTunes will crash - I get the "iTunes has encountered an unexpected error and has to close" message, with the Windows report screen popping up and all that. This is only when I sync my music - applications and contacts sync fine (I do not sync videos/photos/voicemails so I have those all unchecked). I only sync one selected playlist (not my whole library).
I am using iTunes 10, running on Windows XP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times (including downgrading to 9.2 at one point) but I continue to get the same result - iTunes crashes upon syncing music. I just did a fresh restore, and this has not fixed the problem.
I have tried splitting up my 550 song playlist that I normally sync to my iPhone, but when I did this (it was only about 250 songs) iTunes crashed again towards the end. It has been crashing whether or not I have the "Convert to 128 kbps AAC" checked or not. It crashes somewhere in the middle of "Copying X out of X."
Note As of typing this, I successfully synced a separate 58-song playlist WITH "Convert to 128 kbps AAC checked." However, I then tried to sync a different 61-song playlist WITHOUT that checked and iTunes proceeded to crash. After this, I tried syncing the 58-song playlist again WITHOUT the Convert checked and it synced perfectly without crashing.
Recap:
Playlist #1 (550 songs) - Crashes WITH OR WITHOUT convert checked
Playlist #2 (58 songs) - Syncs perfectly with or without convert checked
Playlist #3 (61 songs) - Crashes without "Convert..." checked (have not tested with "Convert..." checked, it's late and I have to head to bed soon and I want to get this post up).
Considering this information, would it be reasonable for me to assume that it's some of the songs in my library that are making iTunes crash? If so, how the heck am I supposed to figure which songs are causing this? I really hope I do not have to sit here as iTunes syncs and watch our for every song it crashes on...
Does anyone have any suggestions? I've scoured these boards but I haven't found anyone with the same situation as me, and thus no answers.
So frustrated. Even my old iPhone 2G on OS 3.0 syncs my music perfectly!!I am back to attempting to sync my music. iTunes continues to crash on certain songs, however I have also noticed another problem - each time I attempt to sync my main playlist (after deleting the song it crashed on last time), it will say Copying X out of like, 96 or some number that is nowhere near the real count of songs on the playlist.

My iPhone has crashed during a sync and now I can't restore from backup as it is asking for password to load the backup yet neither the lock code for the phone or my iTunes Password are working... I have no other password to call upon and need the restore to retrieve info onto my phone, I am a real novice to this...... please help, !!!!
If anyone else is looking for a solution to this same problem, I was able to get it working looking through several older discussions.
The solution was to use the password that I had on my iTunes account the very first time I set up the iPhone about a year ago. I changed my iTunes password about 10 months ago; but apparently, the backups continue to use the password that existed when the phone was first set up.
A couple of troubling things with this are that 1) I didn't apply a password when I did the backup this afternoon so I don't understand why it was required when I did the restore a few hours later. and 2) it makes zero sense why iTunes would not be smart enough to use the current accout password when requiring the password to restore from a backup made with no password.
I thought iTunes and Apple were smarter than that. With so many posts stating exactly the same problem, it is clear that this is bug in the software.

Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below
I have one computer that crash every time I start Firefox. Ocassionally the firefox window will appear for less than a second and then the Crash Report Window shows up; most times it goes right to Crash Report Window. Then it is for some reason unable to send the crash repor; it keeps looping back to the crash report. I've checked my modem and router are operating correctly; I have another computer that's working fine. I've run scan for Trojans, viruses and still see the problem. Any help would be very much appreciated as I'm stuck at this point. For what it's worth, Internet Explorer has the same problem, crashing upon opening.

not availableHello. I have a similar problem to the question of Ryan Vaught, (Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below [MY] Firefox version: prior one to 3.6.7 Operating System: Windows XP Provessional). Mine is a bit different tho. Firefox seems to be crashing and my internet crashes right with it. When it does this, it also takes out some Win32 system .exe files. I too have ran AVG (Full Coverage /Purchased one) and then updated to Viper (Sunbelt Software) and it comes up clean of any viruses, etc. Once it crashes and I close Firefox, the crash report request comes up. When I hit send, it says it cannot be sent with no additional information as to why. I just updated Firefox to 3.6.7 and sure hope this helps, but it almost always happens when I am playing games that use flash. I can send a screenshot if you need it and feel free to edit my question if need be. I've checked my Viper settings and can get to all the websites so far trying to rule it out. Deleted my internet set up and then added it back as a new connection (hope that made sense), so I don't know who to be asking this question of, but hoping you may know the answer why I can't send the crash report. Whew! Sorry for the lengthy question/issue. Your help is greatly appreciated!! Carolyn Burnam

Okay so my phone crashes approximately every 30 seconds. I have tried resetting it by DPU as well as on the phone itself. Once in awhile i get an error message about unknown error 1. If i look at the diagnosis or if runs on itunes i get the following. When I called the support at AT&T they think the phone is shot and it is a hardware thing but i have a hard time believing that when it happened when I sync'd it to my computer. It did get progressively worse though, at first it crashed not that often and then got worse. So restores are failing, recovery, everything. Anyone run into this?

Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.

"Software Update" crashes upon download
Last week I was given a new Mac mini as a gift; I upgraded the memory to 2G; did Target Disk transfer from my old G4, then started using it (didn't use it before the memory or the transfer).
Software Update crashes at the point when the download has just started, every time, even with individual small downloads. Other symptoms: Safari crashes upon start-up, any Widgets that look up info crash when they go get data. Firefox works but crashes accessing some video, same with Explorer.
I have manually downloaded and upgraded to OSX 10.4.9. System can't recognize/mount the .dng download file to upgrade to 10.4.10 (I manually downloaded the Combo Intel). Java is 10.4.2, but when I try to install Java 10.4 Release 5, it tells me to upgrade to the previous version first (which is already installed).
I suspect this is a Java and downloading glitch. Does Software Update rely on Java? Any ideas? I've searched the message boards for this problem, but haven't found anyone else with this problem.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.MarkinArlington wrote:
Thank you for your reply. I used the Setup Assistant to migrate from my G4.
That's probably the cause of your issues. Apparently, the Setup Assitant will sometimes migrate (PowerPC-specific) system files over to Intel-based Macs (causing many odd problems), so using it to migrate from a PPC to an Intel Mac isn't recommended.
Unfortunately, you will have to re-install Mac OS X to solve your issues (trying to figure out which specific files are causing the issues will probably be too long, with little chance of success); I don't know whether an Archive & Install is enough to fix this, but perhaps someone else knows? Otherwise you could ask in the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger > Installation & Setup forum. If you need to do an Erase & Install, you will lose all data on your hard drive, so you'll need to create a backup of all your user files first. -
Every time I try to open photoshop I get a window that pops up and says:
"Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software.
GPU enhancements can be enable in the Performance panel of Preferences."
Then windows shuts the program down. The details of the problem are:
"Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER70AD.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9389.tmp.appcompat.txt
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9407.tmp.hdmp"
I'm on a custom Asus
I'm using Win7 Home Premium 64-bit
16GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 2GB video card
Intel i7 core 2.2 GHz
12 GB of memory
The error happens so quickly that I don't have time to do anything. Please help. >.< I've been on hold for *checks phone* 2 hours exactly. Wow. It is a legit copy and was working last month with no trouble. I've updated the drivers and tried a few solutions that have worked for other people that I found on Google (such as disabling CUDA and setting my "power management mode" to "prefer maximum performance" on my video card) but so far nothing has worked.
Thanks in advance! It has stopped crashing because somehow it turned off "Enable GL Drawing" on its own because I could never even get a menu open. Not sure how it did that but I am grateful. I still get the error when I open Photoshop up but at least it hasn't crashed yet. At the time when it was crashing I never would have been able to get you the system info due to the speed that it was crashing upon just opening the program. In case you still need it:

Can anyone explain why Fireworks CS4 might crash upon "Quit"?
It makes me RALLY nervous and it happens EVERY time.
I quit out of the application via key command or menu exit and I it crashes ... prompting me to report or restart the application.
Is it a prefs thing?
If so ... how do I ditch the old one and create a new one?
I could not find it.
help?
thanks to any and all.
- marclol ... that's exactly what I was thinking.
They are introducing the CS5 suite today actually.... so ... I'll sit tight and wait.
I have had similar problems with AfterEffects and Premiere.
I've COMPLETELY uninstalled and reinstalled the CS4 suite and I still have issues with those two.
Now three with Fireworks.
Thanks Linda.

WindowServer crashing upon going to sleep...?
After a few instabilities updating to ML (largely caused by Flash, or at least I can blame it as a convenient scapegoat) that cost me my saved Chrome tabs, I notice that every time I wake my computer up from sleep, a number of applications appear to all crash at the same time (generally all apps that require the use of the internet crash). Symptoms include the appearance of "unsave device ejection", the disappearance of my extra workspaces, my full screen apps resetting to positions on the right end of screens, and loss of information in my Safari tabs (they literally turn blank, which when I click on a link from another program, they are then overwritten, replacing whatever page that was supposed to be there from before the crash).
Upon closer inspection, however, I also notice that WindowServer is causing the instability, and is having a crash log every time the computer is put to sleep mode.
Any insight as to why this is?
Here's a log of a sample WindowServer crash:

ICloud Preference Pane, All iCloud Apps Crashing or Not Syncing
Hey, everyone,
I have a Mid 2010 17" MBP with OS X 10.9.2 installed. In the last month or so, I have had consistent problems with many of my iCloud-related services.
Symptoms:
Notes crashes upon opening.
Reminders does not sync.
Calendars says "Updating" for a long time before failing to sync.
Aperture crashes when trying to access photos in iCloud (Photo Stream, etc.).
Contacts do not sync.
Messages do not sync.
iCloud and Internet Accounts preference panes do not open, stays on "Loading iCloud..." and System Preferences becomes unresponsive (other preference panes work fine.)
Activity Monitor shows com.preferences.icloud.remoteservice is the culprit.
Here are the solutions that I have tried so far:
Restarting (fixes for a little while, but always breaks again)
Disabling Keychain
Deleting iCloud cache files
Searching for corrupted or partially downloaded iCloud files (in ~/Library/)
Resetting iCloud files through iCloud.com (fixes the problem for a little while, but always breaks again)
Reinstalling the OS and restoring from Time Machine
I also have an iPhone 5s and an iPad 2 that are syncing to my iCloud account.
Thank you in advance for your help!Yep me too. Mail starts using a crazy amount of resources (hits 90% processor usage) now.
Also scrolling through anything in Mail is now very laggy. I run Mail in full screen mode and even bringing the menu bar into view takes a few seconds to happen.
I've also noticed that when iCloud prefs finally open and you try to turn Mail off or on, Mail itself freezes up.
Obviously something got messed up big time in the 10.7.2 and Mail 5.1 updates.
