  • How to display member name that is a number as text

    Version: 11.1.2.1
Hi I am trying to rename a member "A111000" to "111000" in Essbase where 'A' is the prefix. However excel doesn't like 111000. Is there a way I can put 111000 into my cube and have excel read it as a text string? I can't seem to change the member properties to do so.
    Thanks

When typing the name in excel put a single quote in front of it '111000 that will make Excel treat it as text

  • SmartView version 11.1 -- Display Member Name & Alias?

Is it possible to display member name and alias (description) within the same query. This is possible with the Essbase Addin, but I don't see the option in SmartView... its one or the other... ideas?

    Hi JFo
This is by design unfortunately, although I wish they would change it as it is one of the most common things I get asked when trying to convert clients from Excel add-in to SmartView!!
There are only certain types of SmartView connection that support displaying both member name & alias together. I can't remember exactly what you can and cannot use but I pretty sure that Planning and Essbase do not support displaying both either in version 9 or 11.1
Fingers crossed it gets added soon!!

  • Cannot change from member name to alias description in Smartview

I am connected to an Essbase datasource using version 11.1.1.3 of Smartview and Excel 2007. I click on the Hyperion tab, the Options button on the ribbon, go to then the Display tab and all of the Member Name Display options window is greyed out. Member name only is selected by default but I cannot change it (because all options are greyed out). I haven't seen this before.
Note that I am NOT trying to display Member Name AND Alias, I am just trying to change my select from member name TO Alias and cannot (I only have one alias table: Default). I have added the Essbase datasource to my favorites as suggested on another post where numerous users are having the same issue and doesn't make any difference. There is another post regarding this issue that is listed as having a solution but that solution is not the solution to the problem described by everyone in that message thread.

Member Name Display Options will only be enabled if you connect to a database that has an outline containing duplicate members.
If your Essbase system permits the use of duplicate member names, you can choose whether to display member names with or without their descriptions or aliases.
To check if your Outline does allow duplicate members, follow these steps:
    1. Open the outline in edit mode.
    2. Go to the Properties tab.
    3. Go to the"Duplicate member names allowed" node you will see a value of either true or false.
To see the descriptions in SmartView if you are using duplicate members, follow these steps:
    1. Open Connection Manager.
    2. Connect to your application.
    3. Right click on the link of your application.
    4. Choose "Change Alias table".
    5. Choose the table e.g. "Default".
    6. Click OK.

  • Creating a Folder Within Form or Document Library & Display the name not in the name column.

I have created a form library that will used to create folders within that. The folder creation is done using an InfoPath Form that has been uploaded to the Form Library. When the new folder was created the name will be displayed at the Name column within
the Form Library. I want to change that to another column like documents or suchlike.
Can it be done using InfoPath 2010 VSTA C# or not? If their are other options available please could you try to inform me!
    Thank You,

    Hi,
If you want to show the name of folder in another column, a workaround is that you can create an extra column, then create a SharePoint Designer workflow to set the value of
this column with the name of folder.
Here is a link about Create Workflow using SharePoint Designer and set field value for your reference:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/419037/Create-Workflow-using-SharePoint-Designer
I have seen a similar post from you in the link below:

It's recommended that you post a single question in a single thread which will make it easier to be discussed by others.

  • How to extract Member Names in MDX script?

I have a MDX script that by default gives me member aliases. How can I change it so it'd give me member names? I know I can use something like that:
    NON EMPTY [Employee].Levels(0).Members DIMENSION PROPERTIES [Employee].[Member_Name]ON AXIS(4)
but then it gives me member aliases AND member names, and I need the names only.
    Thanks!

The syntax you have is the way to get the member names, but as I said you wouldn't like the way it is displayed. MDX is not a reporting language and so it does not have the nice formatted selections. You will get both alias and member name by using the properties. you could run the output through some sort of parser (Perl perhaps) to get the format you want

  • How to compare substitution variable name to static member names (not data)?

Is there a way to write a BSO member formula that compares a substitution variable against the name of a static member (not the data value of the member)
For example, I have a BSO database that has the sub variable &CurrMth (which is set the real current month), and I am trying to use it in the Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 member formulas
    IF(&CurrMnth <> "Jan" AND &CurrMnth <> "Feb")
       "Mar";
The intention of the above is: if &CurrMnth is neither Jan nor Feb, then the Mar value will be used. However, the system is actually comparing the values of &CurrMnth and Jan/Feb, rather than the names/text string of "Jan"/"Feb".
I have been looking around the tech references, but I was unable to find any functions that will compare the text strings of member names as they all appear to compare against the data itself.
Please let me know if there are any ways to compare the member names themselves in a member formula, not the data values.
    Thanks!

Thanks Celvin, that looks like it works!
However, I do need to do the same function in the equivalent quarter members in our ASO cube as well. Do happen know know if there's a similar MDX function I could use in the ASO cube to acheive the same result? I was using the following to achieve this in ASO (which obviously did not work):
    IIF([Time Periods].[Jan] <> &CurrMth AND [Time Periods].[Feb] <> &CurrMth,
       [Mar],

  • SSRS report with tabular model – MDX query how to get the sum and count of measure and dimension respectively.

    Hello everyone,
I am using the following MDX query on one of my SSRS report.
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Days Outstanding], [Measures].[Amt] } ON COLUMNS,
    NON EMPTY { ([Customer].[Customer].[Customer Key].ALLMEMBERS) }
HAVING [Measures].[ Days Outstanding] > 60
DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS
FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@Location, CONSTRAINED)) ON COLUMNS
    FROM ( SELECT ( {[Date].[Fiscal Period].&[2014-06]}) ON COLUMNS
    FROM [Model]))
Over here, the data is being filtered always for current month and for a location that is being selected by user from a report selection parameter.
I would like to get the count of total no. of customers and sum of the amount measure.
When I am using them in calculated members it gives incorrect values. It considers all records (ignores the sub-select statements) instead of only the records of current month and selected location.
I also tried with EXISTING keyword in calculated members but there is not difference in output. Finally, I manage the same at SSRS level.
Can anybody please advise what are the ways to get the required sum of [Measures].[Amt] and count of [Customer].[Customer].[Customer Key].ALLMEMBERS dimension?
Also, does it make any difference if I manage it as SSRS level and not at MDX query level?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Ankit,
We can use SUM function and COUNT function to sum of [Measures].[Amt] and count of [Customer].[Customer].[Customer Key].ALLMEMBERS dimension. Here is a sample query for you reference.
    WITH MEMBER [measures].[SumValue] AS
    SUM([Customer].[Customer].ALLMEMBERS,[Measures].[Internet Sales Amount])
    MEMBER [measures].[CountValue] AS
    COUNT([Customer].[Customer].ALLMEMBERS)
    MEMBER [Measures].[DimensionName] AS [Customer].NAME
    SELECT {[Measures].[DimensionName],[measures].[SumValue],[measures].[CountValue]} ON 0
    FROM [Adventure Works]
Besides, you ask that does it make any difference if I manage it as SSRS level and not at MDX query level. I don't thinks it will make much difference. The total time to generate a reporting server report (RDL) can be divided into 3 elements:Time to retrieve
the data (TimeDataRetrieval);Time to process the report (TimeProcessing);Time to render the report (TimeRendering). If you manage it on MDX query level, then the TimeDataRetrieval might a little longer. If you manage it on report level, then the TimeProcessing
or TimeRendering time might a little longer. You can test it on you report with following query:
SELECT Itempath, TimeStart,TimeDataRetrieval + TimeProcessing + TimeRendering as [total time],
    TimeDataRetrieval, TimeProcessing, TimeRendering, ByteCount, [RowCount],Source
    FROM ExecutionLog3
    WHERE itempath like '%reportname'

  • SSRS report with cube – MDX query how to get an extra row with value '0'.

    Hello everyone,
I'm unable to write the MDX query to get '0' value as first row in output. Following is my MDX query:
    WITH MEMBER [Measures].[Dummy] AS   '0'
SELECT NON EMPTY Union( {[Measures].[Amount] },{[Measures].[Dummy]}) ON COLUMNS,
    NON EMPTY  { ([Customer].[Customer Nbr].[Customer Nbr].ALLMEMBERS * [Fiscal].[Year].[Year].ALLMEMBERS ) }
    having  [Measures].[Amount] > 5000
    ON ROWS FROM [cube]
With above query, the output returns the value '0' as a separate column.
I would like to get it in form of first row for [Measures].[Amount]. Like,
    Amount
    0
    500
    200
    100
What needs to be changed to achieve the above result? I'm planning to use the above value in line chart to start the line from 0th value as described in following URL. (Note: The below URL is using SQL query and not MDX expressions.)

The round brackets in your expression are forcing an implicit crossjoin between the 3 lines. I would do the following which creates a set of the DummyYear plus the real year members and then crossjoin that with the customer set.
    WITH MEMBER [Fiscal].[Year].DummyYear AS   '0'
SELECT NON EMPTY {[Measures].[Amount]} ON COLUMNS,
     NON EMPTY  {[Fiscal].[Year].DummyYear,
         [Fiscal].[Year].[Year].MEMBERS} *
                [Customer].[Customer Nbr].[Customer Nbr].MEMBERS
     having  [Measures].[Amount] > 5000
    ON ROWS FROM [cube]

  • How to increase member name length in essbase studio

    Hi All,
Currently we have requirement to build a hierarchy which contains member having length more than 80 characters.
I seen somewhere where the member name limitation is 80.
Can someone help me out how to build the hierarchy with long member name
    Thanks,
    SatyaB

You would have a hard time containing your comments into a cube especially because they are so freeform. You said you are using Studio to create your cube. Create a drill through report that when users are at a selected intersection of data, the can execute a drill through report to get additional detail. For instance in addition to the comments column, there might be other information on the table they would want to see. You can select what columns get returned.
For example, I've jusr drill through in a GL cube to get back to the Journal Entries. It allowed the users to see all sorts of things, like all the JEs for a cost center, who created them, comments, currency conversion done fromn the source system, when they were posted, etc.
Because they are not in the cube, it makes the cube a lot cleaner.

  • MDX query runs on SQL but does not populate 'Measures' in Powerpivot

I ran MDX query on SQL 2012 for looking the products and their shipping status
    The code is given below:
    WITH
    set Date1 AS
         strtomember( "[Time].[2014].[Q4].[2014-Jun].[" +format(now()-2, "MM") + "/"+format(now()-2, "dd") + "/" +format(now()-2, "yyyy") + "]")
    set Item1 as
    { [Item].[ItemID].ALLMEMBERS}
    SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Shipped Qty], [Measures].[Shipped Amt], [Measures].[Ordered Qty], [Measures].[Ordered Amt] }
    ON COLUMNS,
    Date1*[Item1] ON ROWS FROM [ABCD]
     WHERE (
                 [Channel].&[OL],
                 [Geography].&[A.9])
The query gives desired output when run in SQL. But when I run the same query in while pulling data in PowerPivot, Dimensions i.e. Date and Item are populated but measures were not populated. Can anyone please help me understand how to populated Measures
    in PowerPivot?

    Hi apoorv,
It was hard to reproduce this issue on my test environment. I would suggest you try to use a simple MDX query to check if it will retrun the correct measures data. Please see the screenshot below:
In addition, you can also create a SQL Server Analysis Services trace to capture some events for furhter investigation.
Use SQL Server Profiler to Monitor Analysis Services:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174946.aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Interchange Member Names (None Name) with their Alias?

I have a Parent Child Alias hierarchy in DRM. What is needed is INTERCHANGING iof Alias with Member Names (Child). So, Reporting Segments is replaced by OR0778 and always referred as this in the hierarchy. This will eventually be exported as flat file hierarchy and loaded up on Essbase. How can we do this on DRM?
    Lines of Business|Allocated Business Lines - w/Disc Ops|OR80003
    Allocated Business Lines - w/Disc Ops|Reportable Segments|OR0778
    Reportable Segments|National Lending|OR00781
    National Lending|Platform Management|DI15081
    National Lending|National Lending Admin Roll-up|
National Lending Admin Roll-up|Natl Lending FCST - Profit|
National Lending Admin Roll-up|Natl Lending Management|DI17037
ROW2: Reportable Segments should be replaced by OR0778 as member name
AND ROW3: Instead of Reportable Segments USE OR0778 and then the child should be OR00781 (member name for National Lending
    and so on.
For some records, Alias is not present. In that case, use the current member name itself.

    hey bud
Please be clear dude, what's the crux of the question?
If you can just summarise what you want to do in a sentence or two. It seems like you gonna have to crack a script for this one but yeah! explain.
