Memory Leak, Deallocating memory after using imaqImageToArray() function

I have created a program (LW/CVI- Imaq Vision), which uses a timer callback to acquire an image, convert the image to an array using the imaqImageToArray() function, manipulates the data in the array, converts the data to an image, displays the image, and disposes of the image(imaqDispose()), and apparently the imaqImageToArray() function clears the allocation pointer, however does not deallocate the memory, such that the next time the function is called again, imaq allocates new memory, thus eventually the application slows down and freezes due to lack of memory. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello,
You need to call the imaqDispose() for the assigned pointer to actually clear the allocated memory.
iPointer = imaqImageToArray(imgInputImage,IMAQ_NO_RECT, &iCols, &iRows);
imaqDispose (iPointer);
Let me know if you have further questions regarding this.
Best regards,
Yusuf C.

  • Huge memory leak in java jvm after update 2 for Snow leopard

    Since I updated to Java Update 2 for Snow Leopard my JVM suddenly grows massive (10GB+ real memory - -Xmx=3500m) consuming all memory and rendering my iMac unusable. This does not happen predictably but does happen several times a day now requiring I power off and on again.
    I had been living happily with update 1 with no such problem.
    I need to either go back to update 1 (should have it on Time Machine) or find a solution for this problem.

    Our application is a j2ee-based commercial application facing to specified customers, having about 120 access request an hour.
    We ' re doing stress test on the test server. The strange memory leak occurs at 1:20 am this morning while we're out of company , and no job was scheduled to run at that time. So I have the tendency to image that there is something inside oc4j had occured.
    I have used OptimizeIt to monitor the heap status. However , as the memory leak problem occurs very occasionally ,and that tool deadly slows our server, we are currently using no profiling tools.

  • Memory leak under GNU/Linux when using exec()

    Hi,
    We detected that our application was taking all the free memory of the computer when we were using intensively and periodically the method exec() to execute some commands of the OS. The OS of the computer is a GNU/Linux based OS.
    So, in order to do some monitoring we decided to wrote a simple program that called exec() infinite number of times, and using the profiler tool of Netbeans we saw a memory leak in the program because the number of surviving generations increased during all the execution time. The classes that have more surviving generations are java.lang.ref.Finalizer, java.io.FileDescriptor and byte[].
    We also decided to test this simple program using Windows, and in that OS we saw that the memory leak disappeared: the number of surviving generations was almost stable.
    I attach you the code of the program.
    import java.io.BufferedReader;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.io.InputStream;
    import java.io.InputStreamReader;
    public class testExec
        public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException, InterruptedException
            Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
            while (true)
                Process process = null;
                InputStream is = null;
                InputStreamReader isr = null;
                BufferedReader br = null;
                try
                    process = runtime.exec("ls");
                    //process = runtime.exec("cmd /c dir");
                    is = process.getInputStream();
                    isr = new InputStreamReader(is);
                    br = new BufferedReader(isr);
                    String line;
                    while ((line = br.readLine()) != null)
                        System.out.println(line);
                finally
                    process.waitFor();
                    if (is != null)
                        is.close();
                    if (isr != null)
                        isr.close();
                    if (br != null)
                        br.close();
                    if (process != null)
                        process.destroy();
    }¿Is anything wrong with the test program we wrote? (we know that is not usual to call infinite times the command ls/dir, but it's just a test)
    ¿Why do we have a memory leak in Linux but not in Windows?
    I will appreciate any help or ideas. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joby,
    From our last profiling results, we haven't found yet a proper solution. We think that probably the problem is caused by the byte[]'s/FileInputStreams created by the class UNIXProcess that manage the stdin, stdout and stderr streams. It seems that these byte arrays cannot be removed correctly by the garbage collector and they become bigger and bigger, so at the end they took all the memory of the system.
    We downloaded the last version of OpenJDK 6 (build b19) and modified UNIXProcess.java.linux so when we call its method destroy(), we assign to null those streams. We did that because we wanted to indicate to the garbage collector that these objects could be removed, as we saw that the close() methods doesn't do anything on their implementation.
    public void destroy() {
         // There is a risk that pid will be recycled, causing us to
         // kill the wrong process!  So we only terminate processes
         // that appear to still be running.  Even with this check,
         // there is an unavoidable race condition here, but the window
         // is very small, and OSes try hard to not recycle pids too
         // soon, so this is quite safe.
         synchronized (this) {
             if (!hasExited)
              destroyProcess(pid);
            try {
                stdin_stream.close();
                stdout_stream.close();
                stderr_stream.close();
                // LINES WE ADDED
                stdin_stream = null;
                stdout_stream = null;
                stderr_stream = null;
            } catch (IOException e) {
                // ignore
                e.printStackTrace();
        }But this didn't work at all. We saw that we were able to execute for a long time our application and that the free memory of the system wasn't decreasing as before, but we did some profiling with this custom JVM and the test application and we still see more or less the same behaviour: lots of surviving generations, at some point increase of the used heap to the maximum allowed, and finally the crash of the test app.
    So sadly, we still don't have a solution for that problem. You could try to compile OpenJDK 6, modify it, and try it with your program to see if the last version works for you. Compiling OpenJDK 6 in Linux is quite easy: you just have to download the source and the binaries from here and configure your environment with something like this:
    export ANT_HOME=/opt/apache-ant-1.7.1/
    export ALT_BOOTDIR=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
    export ALT_OUTPUTDIR=/tmp/openjdk
    export ALT_BINARY_PLUGS_PATH=/opt/openjdk-binary-plugs/
    export ALT_JDK_IMPORT_PATH=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=
    export CLASSPATH=
    export JAVA_HOME=
    export LANG=C
    export CC=/usr/bin/gcc-4.3
    export CXX=/usr/bin/g++-4.3Hope it helps Joby :)
    Cheers.

  • Memory Leak on General Block when using Java Script

    Hi,
    I have a web view, that runs a html within the html there is a javascript which has a third party object this object displays some data and grows dynamically every time I invoke this object to grow I see in Instrument monitor whole bunch of Generalblock-256 ( 256 Bytes ) memory leak, I was wondering how can I manage this memory, I know in java script if we assign null to an object java will release it, but it's already reported the leak before I assign the object to null.
    Is there any way I can use let's say by NSAutoReleasePool.
    Thanks.

    The Memory leak is pretty much gone, with new release of OS 2.2.1 as apple has done better memory management for safari.

  • Memory leak versus inactive memory

    Hi:
    My iMac was becoming painfully slow a year or so ago. This seemed to be due to a lack of RAM, so I upgraded (2 GB to 4 GB total). This worked great, but now I seem to be running out of memory again, even when there are not a lot of programs open.
    I’ve started tracking memory usage with Activity Monitor, and typically a huge chunk of my memory is “Inactive”. I.e., at this time I have 215 MB free, 450 MB Wired, 1.6 GB active, and 1.7 GB inactive. This despite only having Word, Outlook, OmniOutliner, Safari and iTunes open. Under System Memory (in Activity Monitor) it says Finder at 250 MB, Word at 131 MB, iTunes at 120 MB, Outlook at 80 MB, OO at 46 MB, and Dropbox at 34 MB (then a bunch of smaller usages). Even being very generous, the total memory usage only seems to add up to ~1GB, far short of the 4 GB installed.
    I have no idea what a real “memory leak” actually is, but I’ve heard the term bandied about. I’ve had some weird, nonreproducible system crashes in the last few months where the system just totally freezes, often (but not always) putting a nice colour pattern on the monitors. Looking around, some folks have said that this might be due to a memory problem since everything else seems to check out AOK.
    Thus, several questions:
    Might I have a “memory leak”? If so, how do I diagnose and fix it?
    What is the 1.7 GB of “inactive” memory being used for? Why is my Free memory so small when this big chunk of inactive memory is sitting there?
    Thank you very much!
    OS 10.8.2, 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    The way Safari accumulates memory is normal. The way it is trying to page the memory to disc and error-ing is not. I think the integrity of your disc volume / catalog and directories may be to blame.
    Try a bit of basic maintenance:
    Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
    Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
    In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
    This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

    An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:

    By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:

    If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
    Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Yosemite Time Machine memory leak chewing through memory?

    I installed Yosemite 10.10 on my 27" iMac (Intel Core i5) with 12 GB of RAM. After plugging in my external drive to make a backup with Time Machine, I noticed the indicator in my menu bar from Memory Clean was red and showing less than 15 MB of free memory available! I ran Memory Clean to recover some memory while the backup was in progress and it made roughly 3 GB available. Then the rapid drop in available memory began again as Time Machine continued to back up 40+ GB of data.
    When finished, the available memory was very slowly released and crept up to around 220 MB. After 5 minutes without seeing a major release of memory I then ran Memory Clean again and it made 1.96 GB free for the system to use.
    Before the Yosemite upgrade I didn't have Memory Clean installed so I don't think I ever checked to see if system memory was being chewed through in such a massive way under Mavericks. Is this common or is this yet another memory leak associated with Yosemite?
    EDIT: In case this might be helpful, the drive is a Seagate Backup Plus 2 TB USB 3.0.

    Similar machine though16Gb of RAM.   The leak seems to be related to long sleep ( I used to never turn it off)  and then Time Machine so again, similar.   Time Machine (to LaCie 2TB via USB) wanted to re-archive the whole hard drive and via Memory Clean I could watch the RAM get eaten up.   Interesting tidbit, Activity Monitor is oblivious to the leak... completely oblivious.
    Today, I begin the fun part of copying the 800Gb of data and reinstalling Yosemite.   (Sarcasm)  That should only set me back and hour or two.... sheesh.
    Of course, I cannot make any edits - NONE - in the new notfication center.   I can only get local area weather, the stocks apple provides and the time in Cupertino, two time zones away.
    BTW, should you read this, we're out in the cold on Continuity though every now and again, I can see my iMac on my 4Gen iPad.   Weird.

  • Actionscript 3 Class Not Running More Than Once After Using The GoToAndStop function

    I'm having a strange issue, and I am sure it's due to my lack of knowledge about how classes fully work in Adobe AIR (Flash CC). I've created a login button that is connected to a function, and based on a set of conditions it will take you to a different frame with the GoToAndStop function. I've created a logout button that is suppose to take you "back" to the login frame (that has the login button) if you click the logout button using the GoToAndStop function. Up to this point, everything works until I try to click the Login button again, it does not do anything. It's like it does not even try to execute my class file anymore.
    Does the class file only run at startup and never runs again, and if so, how can I create a section of code that is constantly monitoring what the user is doing no matter what frame you are on and no matter if I use the GoToAndStop function or not?
    Thanks

    Based on your qyestion, I think I was wrong with my second guess.
    When I want to create a button, what I do is draw a bitmap that looks like a button and then use a mouse event listener that looks for any part of the stage that is clicked.  You would use the same code for touch as well.  As3 will return the x.y. coordinate of the area that was clicked or touched.  When the xy coordinate is known, if it corrseponds to the area where the button is, I code the appropriate response.  Hence, I only use one event listener for all my buttons, as long as thet involve simple clicks or taps of the screen.
    Good luck, Justin

  • Memory Leak in web application created using j2ee

    Hi,
    Our company has one web application, provided by "X" vendor. this application has many JSPs and many TLDs used. The basic behaviour of the apoplication is to connect to the database (Oracle) get the information and show it to the user.
    We deployed this web application in Tomcat 5.0.25 in the windows environment. One thing we observed here is, when we login to the application the tomcat5.exe process increses its memory. and when we logout, it does not come down to the original position. similar things happen when we search for some of the data using there provided searches.
    We have some code developed which uses httpclient to login to this web application (created for performace testing). This code initially logs in 50 users which goes fine, then logs in 100 users which also goes fine but after this 100 users we ran the code for 50 users agian but this time it threw OutOfmemory exception:Java heap space error.
    we are observing the memory in the Task Manager in windows.
    Can anyone tell me what could be the cause of this? is it the web application causing problem or is tomcat caching some pages into the memory and is not releasing them?

    Hi,
    Few questions!
    1> Have you tweaked your jvm?
    2> What are the values given for Xms and Xmx?
    3> What is the size of XX:MaxPermGen?
    4> How much RAM is available on the system where you have deployed your app?
    5> Are you using pre-complied JSPs for faster response?
    6> Which JDK are you using?
    7> Have you tried using latest version of Tomcat?
    8> If these doesnt help, use any profiler to find the leak. <JProfiler, JVMTI, YourKit profiler etc>
    I hope answering these questions would help you :)
    njoy!

  • Memory leak in explict\images\content\used

    Since about a week ago my girlfriend's Firefox 19.0.2 started to crash with low memory message. She's using a laptop with 3 gig of memory and Windows 7 32. Her add-ons are adblock, WeatherBug and some spellcheckers.
    I reinstalled her browser and also installed Memory Fox plugin. It didn't help. Crashes occur once in one or two days after several hours of browsing.
    I asked her to save the "about:memory" page when the low memory message appears. These are the first lines:

    ├──1,007.93 MB (74.79%) -- images

    She also sent me the page just after she started Firefox (with her pinned tabs) and there are no such memory figures.
    Unfortunately I can't be more specific. She can't say if she changed something recently and she's also unable to cause it to happen when I am there.

    doesnt ANYONE have an answer?? please?Apparently not. If the answer involves us typing in your program, understanding it, debugging it, etc., hey, we all have jobs, too. We can answer specific questions ("How do I do <some specific task>?" or "I tried this and that <specific task> but ran into <specific problem>"). But we don't have all day to debug everyone's programs.
    * First of all, use the code formatting markup around your code (See the Formatting Help link).
    * Secondly, tell us what you have tried - have you looked at your Task Manager and recorded your program's size? Compare it on the machines where it runs well, and the one where it doesn't.

    the web application work better (30% faster), but memory heap will increase
    increase more than the 500M about the 1G and then the tomcat process crash.
    Questions:
    A) Is normal that memory will increase? If client mode need 500M then 1G for
    server mode is not enought? Should I increase the heap? How much?
    B) Is a know problem? Is server option for windows not good supported?
    I have double checked the problem. If I return to the client mode then the
    tomcat will run without problem (excluding some software change problems)
    No use of native code (JNI).
    C) How to track better what happens in server mode? If there is a bug or is normal?
    Please help me. Thanks in advance.

    this problem may arise if u r using a windows 95 series of OS. after starting the dos window, go to that windows properties and increase the memory allocations to maximum, dont let it be at auto. I think this should help u

  • Deluge memory leak? python memory leak?

    Recently, deluge on my lightweight box has been misbehaving.  When running, it (python2?) seems to spawn multiple instances even after halting it from the deluge-console or even from a shell via 'killall deluged'.  They just keep running rendering the system is incredible unresponsive when this happens.  I was able to kill them via 'kill -9 5084 5085 5087' but this isn't normal behavior for deluged.
    This box is headless Athlon w/ 512 meg of RAM running Arch i686 (up-to-date) I use for my weather station and for seeding. Looking back at the monitorix logs, it NEVER goes into swap space. Just recently when this has been happening as you can see from the htop screenshot
    Glad to post log files and provide more details (currently ~/.config/deluge/deluge.log is a 0-byte file?
    Deluge version: 1.3.0
    Python version: 2.6.5
    Kernel: 2.26.35.6
    Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? Thanks!

  • How to read data after using the PRINT function in visual basic

    I know the benchlink can capture the spectrum analyzer screen for me, but I want to integrate it into my application. I use NI spy to detect the communications from the benchlink and put it into my application. After sending the "PRINT 0" command, my "ilrd SpectrumAnalyzer, temp, 500" command doesn't work, giving me EARG error. Does anyone knows if it is because I can not define the temp to be string or some other problem?
    b.t.w, the communications I get from NI Spy actually read some unknown characters from the instrument, what kind of data it is? Any idea how to use it?
    thanks.

    Hello elm,
    This is completely dependent on your instrument; if you are getting the data then you are halfway there. Look in your instrument's programmer's reference manual to see if they mention how the picture is encoded in bytes. There are so many different ways to encode a picture in binary that speculating and guessing would probably never yield the true result. If there is no mention in the manual, contact the instrument manufacturer.
    Sorry I could not be of more help.

  • Makequeues memory leak when using Lexmark Z53

    Behavior with printer switched off while connected to built-in USB port:
    Problem 1: makequeues has a memory leak, starting up with between 3 and 5 MB of RAM. This is done by connecting the printer when logged in and watching via Activity Monitor.
    Initially makequeues has sent 255 Mach messages. Every ~10.5 seconds, makequeues sends 59 more messages and gets 53 in reply. With each send/receive cycle, its RAM usage grows by 8 KB, a rate of 780 kiB/min.
    Problem 2: The process is started each time the same printer is reconnected.
    Symptoms: Disconnecting the printer doesn't let the process exit (any instance). If left alone, the memory usage cycle continues.
    The memory leak caught my attention after taking up over a half-gigabyte of RAM when I left the Mac running over night.
    Resolution:
    (1) Disconnect USB cable
    (2) Kill each instance of the process
    Results:
    (1) The process launches after reconnection of the printer with 996 KB of RAM, immediately having sent 60 Mach messages and received 56.
    (2) During this run time, the process may use less and less RAM, down to a minimum of 912.
    (3) After sending 64 more messages without replies, one every 4 seconds, the process exits after having sent a total of 120 messages.
    (4) This behavior (1 through 3) is the same for each process launched as a result of printer reconnection.
    This behavior isn't shown during Safe Mode boot - makequeues never starts up as a result of printer connection.

    If this is meant to be a bug report, please file a bug report in the proper place. This is a user to user discussion forum.
    As to the source of running 'makequeues' (/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PrinterNotifications.bundle/Contents/MacOS /makequeues), I would look at the Lexmark software. I currently have two Epson printers connected via USB with CUPS running. I see no process 'makequeues' appearing.

  • Call Library Function Node.vi using problem

Frank,
