Memory Usage On Windows

Hi All,
OS: Windows 2003 Server
DB Version: 10.2.0
Today when i check sga_target i got 608M
and
pga_aggregate_target is 703M
and Mem Usage is 608,144 K
but when i change it to
sga_target=732M
pga_aggregate_target=604m
i got the mem usage 217,144K
Can anyone please guide me about the reason for the same

Vikas Kohli wrote:

i got the mem usage 217,144KSGA is shared memory. This excludes the sizes of code and data segments of the database processes.
PGA is dynamic private process memory. This also excludes the memory required for loading and executing that process (a Windows thread for example needs 2MB of system memory - this contains the CPU registers and thread state and other data for running the thread).
So you need to make sure your compare and sum the correct types of memory to get the correct answers.

  • Memory usage in windows nt and windows 2000

My program is polling, visualizing and saving continuously sent data. When I use it under Windows NT(sp6), after some time the computer runs out of virtual memory. In the task manager I can see the memory usage increasing with time. But when I use it under windows 2000(sp3) and look at the task manager nothing important happens, the memory usage is quite constant. Does anyone have any idea about this situation? Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

Assuming that your application isn't continuously reading into memory ever-increasing amounts of data, the thing to look for are references that you aren't closing when you are finished with them.

  • Indesign CC freezes and maxes out memory usage in Windows 7

I'm having a problem where Indesign will freeze and when I check on it in Task Manager I can see the memory usage climbing until it's using all free memory. I have to kill the task to get it to stop. I have 8GB and it maxed out at 6.5gb this morning. I'm on Windows 7 Pro and am using the 64-bit version of Indesign with the most recent update.

The document I'm working on now is only about 35 pages with 1-3 images per page, nothing too crazy. I don't have any extra plugins from what I recall - how do I check?
I'm using Photoshop and sometimes Illustrator at the same time, but have plenty of free memory until ID goes nuts.

  • LabVIEW 2009 build memory usage exceeds Windows limit

We have a large application that builds without problems using 8.6.1, but failed to build using LabVIEW 2009 with the error "Not enough memory to build this application".
We solved the problem by adding the parameter /3GB to the Windows XP boot.ini file. This increases the available memory for a Windows XP application from 2Gb to 3Gb.
It appears that LabVIEW 2009 uses more memory during the build process and, in our case, this took it over the 2Gb limit.

  • Is there a VI to monitor CPU and memory usage on wINDOWS 2000 system ?

I want to monitor CPU usage and available memory for Windows 2000 computer. Is there a VI that can call the task mngr. via a DLL to provide this information in real time ?

There was a nice example using .NET technology, but it seems the link has changed and I cannot find it anymore. See this older thread for some clues.
Does anyone know what happened to the target of the original link in my old post?

  • MS Minimize and memory usage

    Hi,
I noticed that if you minimize your dos window, your memory usage ( as shown in Windows task manager ) drops a lot. E.g. I have Tomcat running ( 15 MB usage ). When I minimize the Tomcat DOS window, the memory usage shows something like 160kB. Any ideas. What is the real usage ?
    Regards,
    Dieter Janssen

When you minimize the window Java will run a garbage collection. But also be aware of that the memory usage in Windows task manager is shown in both the Mem Usage column and the VM Size column (you maybe need to add this to your Task manager).
I hope this will help you!

  • Memory Usage.

    Good day to you all,
Im using the miracl library for my program(www.shamus.ie). it is a c/c++ library
I compiled its dll and made it run on windows.
i also compiled it on linux but i didnt use the exact source codes because there are differences in compiling in linux.
my problem is that memory usage on windows is 4mb per client while on linux, it is 23mb per client.
Is it because i compiled the linux version wrong?
should windows memory usage be way lower than linux memory usage?
should i run my app on a linux or windows?
Is JNI really faster on windows?
    Thanks

  • Very high memory usage with Yahoo Mail

After using Yahoo Mail for an hour or so my memory usage increases to a very high level.
Just now, after reading and deleting about 50 e-mails (newsletters etc.) I noticed Firefox 17 running slowly and checked the memory usage in Windows Task Manager (I am using XP) and it was 1.2 Gb. My older laptop only has 2 Gb of RAM. Yahoo Mail was the only thing open at the time.
I never notice this problem with Gmail which I mainly use. However I use Yahoo Mail for quite a few newsletters etc. that are less important and which I only check once a week or so.
I found the following bug report about 3 years old which almost exactly describes my problem.
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506771
But this report involves a much earlier Firefox version, and at the end it seems to say that the problem was fixed. However it well describes my current issue with Firefox 17, especially the continual increase in memory while using the up/down arrow keys to scroll through Yahoo e-mails.
Is this normal to have to shut down and reopen Firefox every hour or so to clean out the memory? For some reason I only notice this when using Yahoo Mail. After using many other sites and having multiple tabs open for several hours I rarely reach that kind of memory usage. About the highest I've seen with other sites after a couple of hours is 600 Kb which is roughly when I start notice slower response times.

  • Memory Usage in WinTaskManger vs heap size

    hello,
I have exactly the same problem as in the topic "Windows Task Manager vs. Heap", posted at Dec 10, 2004 5:17 AM, by jorgeHX.
    Here are the symptoms:
    1) My application starts at 20MB seen by windows task manager
    2) I use profiler to monitor the heap. Heap is always working very healthly - heap size in the profiler increases by a minimum until the gc comes around so that the used heap size drops down again.
    3) However, after doing a relatively memory-consuming operation (loop of String indexing, patterning ..etc.), the memory usage in windows task manager goes up couple of MBs but never drops down.
    4) Then I go manually free the heap (System.gc()), I can see GC is freeing heap. However, the memory in windows task manager remains no change, no matter how many times I force the garbabge collection.
This is a bad thing - if my application keeps doing that memory-consuming operation again and again, the memory seen in the windows task manager will be growing and growing to hundreds of MBs until the windows alerts "low on virtual memory".
I tried everything already. I set every instance = null at the end, I delete every reference but the memory just keeps increasing! WHY?????
Anyone can help me charactorize the problem? I am so in dark!!
    Ryan-Chi

I guess my problem can also be interpretated as
"Why doesn't JVM return memory to OS?"
It does, depending on the setting of the -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio option. "Normal" operation using the default setting does not usually cause memory to be returned to the os.
Search for this option term for explanations.

  • Z87-G45, 80%+ Memory Usage in Task Manager

hey guys ran into another problem
i'm using windows 8.1 it's a fresh install and i'm running into high memory usage problem. I was running at 99% while idling earlier (system was lagging hard) so i system restored to the previous day and everything was fine until now. I see it slowly creeping up. While typing this i'm running at 84% Memory usage which seems absurdly high.
I'm using 8gb of Gskill Ram so I tried to follow the sticky above, but my BIOS would not let me changed anything under the "Advanced DRAM settings" not sure what that is either?
Anyone got a quick fix to this problem?

Just updated my killer network drivers because i saw that sticky about people having problems with it.
This dropped my RAM down to 18% while typing this at this very moment. I'll let you know if it creeps up again.
My next question I guess is what is normal memory usage on windows 8.1?

  • PowerPoint Presentation Memory Usage

I have created a number of swf files to demonstrate the use
of a program, using Captiveate 2. There are about 5 or 6 of them,
and each is no more than a min in length. They was created using
full motion recording and the resultant flash files are no larger
    than 2 MB in size.
I import these into PowerPoint 2003 as a shockwave flash
object and they appear fine when the slides are presented. However,
the computer quickly grinds to a halt, and looking at task manager
on another monitor whilst the flash files are playing, I can see
PowerPoint's memory usage ramp up at the rate of about 10 MB/sec.
Moving onto the next slide does not clear the previous slides
memory usage, hence windows quickly runs out of virtual memory.
I do not see this behaviour when I import alternative flash
files into PowerPoint. I have tried this with/without the _skin.swf
file but the resutls are the same. Has anyone seen this behaviour
before? I have also tried this on a number of computers, and the
    same issues are seen.

    Hi High Tower
I'm surprised you aren't also seeing what we call the RSOD
(Red Screen Of Death). This happens when you have used Captivate to
record longer full motion recordings. What happens is that each
full motion clip is loaded into memory until all memory (virtual
and otherwise) becomes totally depleted. The screens begin showing
red spots and quickly move from that to the full screen being red.
This really isn't an issue with Captivate. Moreover, it's an
issue with the way the Flash player handles the full motion clips.
Sorry, but the only way I'm aware of to work around it is to
structure your projects differently. Avoid using full motion if you
can and use slide based recording whenever possible.
    Hopefully this was helpful... Rick

  • Window Memory usage even after closing windows

I've included links to a test app that does nothing but
launch a window, play a sound, close window / repeat.
When application launches it uses about 20mb of memory. When
you click on the only button, it will launch a secondary window
that will simply play a wav file. (I set the volume low but you may
    want to mute it :D)
After launching and closing the window several times the
memory usage goes up considerably and *never* falls back a
significant %. (I got it to about 100MB before I decided to quit
trying to increase the memory usage. Right now it's been running
w/o any user interaction since opening about 10 windows and it's
fairly stable at around 61MB (although that appears to be
    increasing w/o user interaction).
Does anyone know of any methods I can use to ensure that the
memory consumed by secondary windows does not just persist forever
even after closing the window? Is there something I'm doing wrong
    here?
    Example Code:
    http://www.vf-server.com/air/memorytest.air
    (AIR)
    http://www.vf-server.com/air/memorytest.zip
    (source ZIP)
Note: When I *minimize* the window it looks like garbage
collection is forced and app drops back to 11MB (on restore back to
    19mb).
Edit: note in your task manager, application appears as
    JBTest.exe

You can call System.gc() to force the garbage collector to
    run.
Try removing the event listeners when they aren't needed
anymore. I think it is more difficult for the gc to cleanup objects
when there are host objects (like Sound) refering to JavaScript
objects and JavaScript objects refering to host objects, so you
need to be especially careful about those. It SHOULD clean them up
eventually, but it may take longer for it to figure out that those
objects are no longer in use.
You might also clear the secondaryWindow reference in the
parent document when the window closes. That reference might retard
    garbage collection, too.

  • Memory usage exceed -Xmx option in Windows 2000.

    Hi ,
I run the java application with -Xms300M -Xmx600M option in Windows 2000.
When I start the application, it's virtual memory size is 300M.
(In Windows TaskManager choose the Processes Tab and select "Select Columns..." option in View menu. And check the "Virtual Memory Size".)
After several test I found that it's virtual memory size is bigger than 600M in Windows TaskManager.
It's virtual memory size is about 650M.
Why the application's memory usage is bigger than 600M despite of -Xmx600M?

The -Xms and -Xmx control the Java heap size only.
The stack does not go on the heap, and the VM will need some memory of its own as well.

  • High Page Pool Memory Usage on a Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster

    Hi,
may someone has a similar Problem or can give me a helping Hand.
    I'm having a 9Node Cluster ( Windows 2012 R2 , fully Patched from RTM Version on )
The Cluster is connected to a SAN which is an Equallogic ( Firmware 6.11).  HitKit Driver 4.7.1
The System running clean and without any Event Logs until the Page Pool Usage of the Nodes turn over 15 GB of Paged pool Memory.
I monitore that via a Performance Counter ( \Memory\Pool Paged Bytes)
otherwise I have no indication by for example the Process View, the Calculated Sum on the Overview ( TaskManager / Memory ) but shows on the contraditory the 15GB an Memory Usage.
I downloaded the RAMMap Tool from Sysinternals but that doesnt show me any possible Information for the information , acutally the Information differs from RAMMap to the Performance Counter ( RAMMap = 251MB, Performance Counter = 15GB )
Just to make that point clear , there is No Information beside the Sum of Page File on the System Page and the PerfCounter that so much Page Pool Memory is used by any Process . Therefor it is hidden which process "needs" it.
I tried many thinks ,  like search for a Memory Hole in the Drivers , Hyper-V Stack , Equallogic and hoped for resolution with any new Patch which had a "Memory Leak" Information to them , but so far none has made a difference , maybe someone
    has the same Problem.
My Cluster has routher large VMs on it compared to the Numa Seize ( VM 4-128GB, on DELL R720 ( 2x CPU (8C) 384GB RAM  )
( The VMs have also a High IO Usage , as there RAM is used as a RAM Database ( zb. Mongo DB ) )
    Regards
    M

    Hi Alex,
there is something wrong here and not an "normal" Memory Leak , as for that reason I would see the amount of Page Pool Memory assigned to a given Process.
If that would be the Case I could use RAMMap or even Vmmap to adresse the Paged Pool usage, but those Tools dont reflect the Usage like the PerfCounter does.
The Windows Driver Kit for a 2012 R2 System is WDK 8.1 which has a necessity of VS2013 ( Important: Before
installing WDK 8.1 Update, you need to install Visual Studio 2013. See the Visual Studio links on this page.)  My Last Hope was to get poolmon.exe and identify the Source for the "Paged Pool" Usage .
We are having that Problem now since the Early Days of Windows 2012R2 and because the Usage is quite "hidden" we only found out , when we ran out of Memory without knowing why.
Worst Usage Rates where up to 150GB of Paged Pool  !! given a RAM 385GB ( Dell R720)  that is quite a Number.
Im wondering if noone else with a cluster ( seems that the Node numbers in a Cluster and the "RAM" Seize of the VM ( >32GB )  have a tremendous impact on that given Problem , with a 4 Node Cluster the Problem isnt so big )
