Memtest report, can you help reading it?

Due to frequent shutdowns that have been associated with hardware issues (covered under a separate thread), I decided to run Memtest to check my RAM.
I have a total of 5 GB RAM (2 x 512MB + 2 x 2GB).  The suspicion I have is that the original, 512 is at a 4200 speed, while the added, 2 GB are rated by my Mac's System Profiler as 3200 (Crucial claimed there's no 4200 available anymore).
Also, I did a regular restart before running Memtest (via the Terminal), because when trying to start up as single-user (Command-S) I got a DOS-like screen that was not at all clear to me....  IS THAT CONNECTED WITH THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE (see below, copied from the report)? And if so, how significant is this "error" of testing with unlocked memory?
Attempting memory lock... ERROR: Memory lock failed - reason unknown.
WARNING: Testing with unlocked memory may be slower and less reliable
Here is the report, and I would greatly appreciate getting a feedback, telling me if all OK, or are there any issues with my RAM:

Memtest is not an application, and it doesn't reside in the Application folder.
If it isn't an application, then what is it???
Where ever you put the Memtest Application. If it's on the Desktop, Type Desktop. If its in Downloads, Type Downloads.
but that doesn't mean my Mac is happy with the slower speed, right?
IF the RAM is, IN FACT, not PC4200 and is a slower, PC3200 DIMM, it isn't the right RAM and will cause issues, sometime, somewhere. I have a hard time believing that the machine actually runs.
hat upgrading from Tiger to Leopard made my Mac more sensitive and less stable because of it
Leopard is far more discerning regarding RAM.
Crucial claims they've sold many of thise w/o any issues. They're actually shipping me replacement RAM for free, same 3200
I don't buy it. PC5300, OK, but not slower. Many people got Crucial PC5300 and it works, but always misreports as PC3200.
What does the sticker on the side of the DIMM say?
For anyone reading (because RAM is important and misinformation and confusion is bad):
NEVER install RAM that is slower than spec'd RAM.
In the Dual Core G5, since DDR2 PC4200 DIMMs are harder to find, many people opt for DDR2 PC5300 DIMMs. That is likely fine, as the RAM will be backwards compatible to the slower 533 MHz controller of the G5.
Misreports ARE common with the faster RAM, however.
Do NOT install DDR2 PC3200 DIMMs as they are not rated beyond 400 MHz.

Get rid of Sophos Anti-Virus software you have installed. Use the uninstaller or:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

QuickPlayer can't read this. Can you help me, please.

Quicktime cannot read Flash files. For that you need Flash Player from Adobe.
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player if you have it, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

i cannot install adobe reader. I get so far and get the message "Error 1324. All folders or the volume is invalid. Please enter it again" can you help?

We need to know if any registry settings are causing this error.  Please follow these instructions:
from Windows Start | Search: type regedit and hit Enter; you will see a window like this
now click on the little arrow ▹ left from HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Next click the arrow ▹ beside Software, then Microsoft, then Windows, then CurrentVersion, then Explorer, then click on User Shell Folders
all entries on the right side should start with %USERPROFILE%
If you have anything different, this may be the cause for the install failure.
Now you need to repeat the same thing for another key:
    ▹ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ▹ Software ▹ Microsoft ▹ Windows ▹ CurrentVersion ▹ Explorer ▹ User Shell Folders
Here all entries should start with %PUBLIC% or %ProgramData%.  If you have anything different, this may also be the cause for the install failure.

My computer is telling me that the new version of Adobe can't be supported on Firefox version 4.0 because it is a 64 bit web browser and Adobe needs a 32 bit web browser can you help?

If you have a copy of it backed up, restore that. If not, back up your computer, upgrade it to Mavericks, and then get the current iPhoto version. If you don't have it backed up and don't want to upgrade, go to the Mac App Store main page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

Jeanne, you are going to have to give us some additional information: what kind of files are they, on what computer, using what application, were they made, how was the USB key formatted in the first place?
Do the files not copy to your desktop?

  • Impossible to read video youtube with Safari 5.1 ? Message "Echec de module" ? Can you help me?

When i want look a video on Youtube, it's impossible.
I have a message "echec du module"
can you help me please ?

    Hi Jeff:
My French is laughable - I thought you might not be a French-speaking person!
I looked and looked and cannot find anything that explains that message.
You could try a couple of things...
    1.  Reset Safari
    2.  Trash a preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart.
If those do not help, I am out of ideas.

  • Can you help me with the WHERE clause? Any issue with this code block?

    Hi,
I am looking for blogs or any document on how to implement a Lookup during data loads in BW.
The problem is that all those that I find on this site are mostly about u201CLookup in XIu201D
I have read bits and hints on different postings on this site and this is the best I could do for the scenario shown below:
I need to add the Chars: Char1, Char2, Char3 to CubeX
so that I can display the data for these 3 Chars in a report.
Char1 and Char2 are filled in ODS12 and Char3 is filled in Cube3.
Can you help me write a routine so that while loading data to CubeX, it will read Char1, Char2, Char3 from ODS12 and Cube3; and make them available in CubeX?
This is my attempt so far:   continue:
    u201C----
    select /bic/Char1 from /bic/ODS12
    select /bic/Char2 from /bic/ODS12
    select /bic/Char3 from /bic/Cube3
    into result
    WHERE u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026
    and objvers = 'A' .
    end select.
    u201C----
    1. What should be my WHERE clause?
    2. In the select statement, by studying samples on this where should there be an u201CMu201D in front of the ODS? e.g. select /bic/Char1 from /bic/MODS12
If so, what is the significance and the other options?
    3. Should this code be in the Start routing of CubeX? Or any other possible location? Also, in the start routine does it matter where within the start routine this code needs to be placed?
    4. Can you please fix this code and add any lines I may be missing?
Is what I am looking to do refer to as u201Cdoing a lookupu201D?
    Thanks
